While this series has not yet been licensed we have received a C&D from Kadokawa Pictures USA, we therefore won't be listing fansubs of this series here on AnimeSuki anymore.

Please note that Kadokawa are acting on the behalf of the Japanese IP owners, Kadokawa Pictures USA themselves do not license such series but act as a master licensor, a middle-man who sells on the license to (typically) American anime companies. End of edit by Mod (xris)

About a kitsune who's out to protect an important person...

I've heard about this novel from another fan, so I'm stoked. But I didn't originally know that there was an anime pending for this... :D

(Though, somehow, the story's premise kinda sounded like Omamori Himari...)

Interesting.

This looks sort of interesting.. though i can't think of any above-board reason for the kitsune to be Ranma-ized ... only embarrassing lame fanservice reasons.

Everyone thinks highly of the novels so perhaps that fear is unjustified? Giving it an extra chance simply because it seems woven with some spirit lore.

The only thing I heard about this is Yukana playing the main character, so for that reason alone I'll watch it. I don't have very high hopes for it, but at least the artwork on the novel covers looks interesting.

Seems like the anime of oinari sama generated quite a general negative response here. :(I wouldn't say that it's generating a negative response here at all. It's generating an "unknown quantity" response, which is to be expected since it's based on light novels. We'll see what happens when first episode airs -- I know I'm certainly going to check it out, anyway.

relentlessflame
2008-03-22, 12:54
Why couldn't they spend more money on the website?Pretty much all of the recent Kadokawa anime have had "blog websites" like this. Ninomiya-kun, H2O, and now this. I don't think it's a matter of spending money, as opposed to them going for a different style. Rather than feeling like a PR site made by an ad agency, I think it's supposed to feel more like you're getting info straight from the producers on their blog. A little bit lower key and more "personal". It's also being repackaged under the NewType brand, so it's all part of a larger marketing strategy. I wouldn't necessarily think any worse of the show because of it.

A question I can answer. Of cousre I'll only answer about the light novels and the manga adaptation.

The light novels are published under the light novel label Dengeki Bunko (http://www.comipedia.com/light-novel-label/dengeki-bunko), a shounen light novel label targeting something between teenage boys to men in their twenties.

The manga adaptation was serialized in the shounen manga magazine Dengeki Comic Gao!, and continued serialization in the seinen manga magazine Dengeki Daioh, so hopefully this explains the target readership of the manga.

Anyway, "cross-gender" isn't something new in male oriented manga/light novels.

I was looking at the list of Dengeki Novel Prize winners for light novels and I noticed that Wagaya no Oinari-sama got the gold prize in 2003. The only other 2 award winning novels I've seen on that list were Baccano! (2002 co winner of gold prize) and Spice and Wolf (2005 Silver Prize) and I really enjoyed those two series. Thanks to that info my expectations for this show went up a bit though even if the source material is great the anime can still easily suck.

At the illustrator's site (http://www12.ocn.ne.jp/~wakuseig/) we could once view a lot of artworks, but now there are less images there...

Wagaya no Oinari-sama is a Shinto-based modern tale. I'm afraid subbers will surely have some difficulty in the terminology and concepts.

don't worry about that, it depends on who picks up the translations. Shinto based anime/shows have been subbed before. And Certain subbing groups are quite aware of Shinto terminologies and concepts.

Yeah, and besides there are sites for this kind of thing (http://www.coyotes.org/kitsune/kitsune-classification.html)

With the studio of Rental magica behind this. I have faith that it can be good. I wasn't a huge fan of Rental Magica but I didn't hate it.

And yeah I'm also one of the people drooling over the male side female side seiyu for Kugen.
I like how the trailer shows both sides introducing each other. Yeah I know it's cliche in some ways but it's still awesome.

yeah, this anime will be decent if not good. The novel was an excellent read so the anime shouldn't be too bad if the animator stick to the material.

It's not precisely a novel concept. See Ranma 1/2, Tetsuwan Birdy. Those were even licensed in the US, so there's little chance of you missing them if you watched at least some classic anime.

I for one think the novel concept here is having Yukana do the female voice. Well, at least that's what my ears want to think :heh:

he forgot what gender did he have when he took human form thats all :P

he's/she's a demon/youkai so gender isn't really that critical for them,
my guess is that in the end they would find out that he didn't have any "real" gender to begin with..

ironically the novel is considered an romance/comedy/action series since all three are present. That you don't have to worry about.

Kugen is in fact so forgetful of his gender that he doesn't even remember the gender he took on two or three days ago. He is so used to both genders that he takes them on randomly and act totally at ease in each gender identity that its scary( especially when he changes gender on the fly). But being ancient and wise he does know when to switch gender if appropriate(such as female form when he needs to seduce or cry her way in/out of a sticky situation or to take on the male form for the Mano-a-mano Macho situations). However in the novel i believe he is referred to as her by majority of the main cast as he does take on the female form more often.

He/she was once a living fox, so he/she had a sex whichever. Tenko [天狐] is a honorable title for a fox who has lived more than a thousand years and got the status as a messenger of the Inari (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inari_%28mythology%29).

No OP...
ED - Decent song, with low animation...

Well, as far as it goes, it wasn't bad. Decent animation, decent story, no fanservice.

On the other hand, the characters don't appeal or interest me. For Kugen, it feels like they tried really hard to have him/her likable only to make him/her half-annoying. Character designs couldn't be more plain, especially Noboru, who looks as plain as can be. Yet he sounds like Nagasumi. Of course, Tooru has a heart of gold against enemies. There was no way he would have said to kill the snake. I'd like to have a staring contest against Kou. Just go (-_- ............................).

Had about one laugh through the entire episode, when Kou decided to ride the train on the rack above.

I'll see where it goes, but despite expecting more, I was somewhat bored, really.

Preview: Boy Kugen; doggies.

My opinion is pretty much the same as serenades. Not too high comedy in the first episode.

Yukana does a pretty good job here. Using that nice "Oho?" voice.

Overall nothing really exciting happened, the fight was kind of simple. And I thought the animation could have been more fluid when Kugen was swinging the katana

Overall I think Kou and Kugen are the only characters that really stood out in this episode.
The brothers are simple characters. Older brother is a pansy.......ok well not as much as some (he doesn't totally freak out when he sees Kugen in kitsune form.....though he does freak out during the fight)

And the younger brother is just innocent.

The big thing about this show is Hayami Saori 早見沙織, who plays Kou, the young priestess. Remember the name. She is only 16, but is already an excellent seiyuu, in the roles she has had (Momoka in Touka Gettan and this). Her voice as Kou is as pure and certain as a drop of water falling in a pond in the forest.

And her singing of the ED makes her the best of all current seiyuu/singers, for me, with a sweetness and musicality that are amazing. This is fully as good as her outstanding ED to Touka Gettan. The only thing that could stop her becoming a top seiyuu is becoming a top singer first. And she is already signed by Columbia.

http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/3546/hayamisaori5yq6.jpg (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1174)

As for the show itself, I love the simple, pure character design, and I thought Yukana showed many aspects of her excellent voice. The story was simple and we see the possibility of future humor after this introductory episode. But this kind of story doesn't usually interest me, so we'll see what happens from here. One thing I know: I wanted to see this show for Hayami Saori, and she was outstanding.

Oh right. I forgot that Hayami Soari was playing in this! She is very gpood as Kou, deadpan and cute.
Also there's Nakamura Yuuichi who is playing male Kugen. And it really surprised me how well Yukana's and his voices parallel each other (both have a similar level of deepness)

Mah, for now, enjoy the previews/summaries of episodes 2-4. Yeah, don't know what they are thinking putting the previews for so many future episodes, but then again, H2O did this.

O-Inari-sama, Lives in Our House

Kuu and the female protector/girl protector/girl guard/etc. (Sad way to translate it, but she's called a 護り女. "護り" =protect and "女" obviously=girl/female. You get the idea.) Kou comes to the Takagami House.
For better or for worse, Noboru's father Haruki unexpectedly accepts such a unrealistic situation with ease, and the new lifestyle at the Takagami House begins.
In the middle of this, Kuu suggests visiting the god that governs this town, so Noboru and Tooru, who ended up traveling with her, heads towards the biggest shrine in the town, 羽柴 (Hashiba?) Shrine.
The young convenience store owner Ebisu they meet on the way is the god that governs the town's land and...

O-Inari-Sama, Goes to School (<--Should have saw this coming... )

The new school semester starts, and Tooru and Noboru each go to their own school.
But Noboru, worried that Kuu and Kou who were left behind at the house might do something, felt uneasy through his club activities.
There, Kuu and Kou, who were supposed to be at home, appears along with Tooru at 赤城 (Akagi?) High School that Noboru attends, and he ends up guiding them through the school.
To his classmate, Sakura Misaki, who has hidden feelings for Noboru (why would anyone end up having feelings for Mr. Giga-ton Plain is beyond me), and the appearance of the beautiful girls that surround Noboru, he does not feel calm, but...

O-Inari-Sama, Harvests

Kou, unskilled to an extreme level, wants to be of use to Noboru and co. by making an effort to do housework, but everything ends up backfiring.
There, Noboru starts worrying over the fact their living expenses are going into the red zone because of all of the dishes Kou breaks and that the food expenses have increased by two people.
Even so, Kuu occasionally says she wants to eat a gourmet.
When Noboru tells him/her to go and provide the ingrediants, Kuu goes out in high spirits, but...... (Let me guess... failure.)

Sounds like it might actually get funny/enjoyable. Though it's just a might.

Wonder if all of the episodes will have some type of spirit appearing... Since ep3 and 4 don't really have much mention of something like that...

ep 1
I'm sorry...but did anyone else watching this had an urge to just strangle the elder brother? Noboru is just such a wimp I actually can't stand it. He is meant to be the eldest yet the was the first to try and run away saying "we will be killed". God I hate wimps >.>

Putting that annoyance aside, I really enjoyed the ep in the latter half. The first half was quite boring with all the lead up (bla bla) but when Kugen showed up I was just loving everything from there on (besides Noboru, gosh I want to throttle him so much >.>).

Yukana did an awesome job for Kugen imo...her mature and motherly voice fitted perfectly. Not to mention the hint of evilness behind it (heh:). Seems like she will be their bodyguard/substitute mother for the rest of the series (great! ^^). I didn't catch why the youngest brother was being targeted but hopefully the subs won't be too long.

I am looking forward to this :)

Think I'll cut Noboru some slack in this one. You get called down to see relatives, get told all this stuff, see shape shifting fox, and suddenly get dropped into a fight with a demon snake. I'm not going to guess how I'd be reacting in that kind of situation. For my pride will say I would handle it in a very cool manner :heh:. Hopefully the guy gets it together as the series moves along.

Kugen was interesting enough. I worry about someone that can't even keep track of their gender. I mean sure your probably busy over all that time, but let's try to keep some things in the memory banks. Oh well if Kugen can make it work then that's fine. Going to be able to make use of both sides I'm sure along the way.

Kou was pretty interesting herself. Pretty serious and damn funny with her watching them from above in the train. Yes completely inconspicuous :D.

Demon...I mean grandmother who had seen her fair share of troubles? That other guy.....Maybe the little brother, but thought he was more of the type to just get locked into place rather than voice up running for it. It's only the first episode anyways, if the older brother keeps it up I won't cut him any slack.

Actually, only one character so far has ears and tails.
As far as I can see, the story is about:

Noboru, the plainest plain in this plain world of plain protagonists, goes to his loud, annoying, high-tensioned grandmother, with his younger brother. Due to a certain circumstance (see episode 1), they have to awaken a fox spirit that has no set gender, Kugen.
They go back home with Kugen, the energetically boring fox spirit, and Kou, who you will have plenty of fun playing staring games at, and their new life begins. <--not being negative or sarcastic, just observation; opinions might change in the future
Future episodes seem episodic.

Genre... Let's see, Supernatural/Fantasy, is how I see it. There will be school life and comedy too, though.

It's only the first episode anyways, if the older brother keeps it up I won't cut him any slack.

Though it seems the last chance for a hostile encounter will be ep2, since ep3-4 seems to focus on other stuff. (Just my guess though, never read the novels.)

As excellent as Yukana's performance is in this show (as usual), I fear I will not be watching any more of this. It's boring and terribly uninteresting, poorly animated, awfully musicalized, and overall of subpar quality.

I want to pick up this show but it feels like Kanokon . Is it different and how good the show is ? Please give me an unbiased reply ^o^

Here's my unbiased reply:

Differences between Kanokon and this:
Both Kanokon and Oinari has fox spirits, but a lot more of Kanokon's characters are demons and spirits, while Oinari doesn't.
Oinari is a lot more peaceful and a whole lot less ecchi.
There seems to be hostile/wild demons in Oinari, but not in Kanokon, since in Kanokon, the setting is primarily school.

As for how good, it's only been one episode, so it's hard to judge.
Episode 1 was pretty slow and unexciting, but it might get better. Actually shows signs of getting better.
For Kanokon (I see your post from that thread), watch it only if you want fanservice. Otherwise, it couldn't be more brainless.

Certainly playing up the mystical aspects more. Horo was closer to a real being than some kind of spirit. Just a different kind compared to humans, didn't mean she was going to start pulling out magical attacks :heh:.

They're differrent, yes. Horo's a Wolf, while Oinari's a Fox. In my book with the term of likeness, Wolves > Foxes because wolves are meaner, stronger and have this 'badassness' aura around them. But for characters so far Oinari's is likeable...albeit imo Oinari's 1st episode was a bit boring D:

Well they defiantly seem to all have one thing in common and thats strong, interesting, and immensely likable female characters so I can't really complain...Especially had to love Kou stowing away in the luggage rack. :heh:

OP - Like it. Shows a lot of future characters, including one that seems to be similar to Kugen (spirit and gender-switching...).

Well, definitely more entertaining than the first episode. The comedy was also decent.
Of course, the classic "discovering" thing where Kugen "fights" the TV before learning what it is. Kou was also pretty funny this episode, since her head is filled with "mission" and "supernatural" that she treats everything so seriously (like that Mouse in the photo). :heh:
Noboru's father is completely my pace. I felt minor irritation to him, but he doesn't have much appearance, so oh well.

Male Kugen... I laughed the moment he first opened his mouth. No problem with him, though his laugh is kind of... strange. -_-
Sucks that he destroyed instead of created a cursed video...

Ebisu is a suspicious character. Completely rolled my eyes when he said that he only fought to get more customers to his store though.
He seems like a playful character, but on the other hand, he seems to be the type to plan and toy around with others, so he probably isn't finished yet.
He can freeze people by stepping on their shadows... :heh:

The fight was decent. Not greatly amazing, but it caught my attention, so pass.

For the brothers, Noboru needs to learn from Tooru. Tooru actually had the nerves to get in front of that beast and try (pathetically) to repel it. Noboru... before that scene, he covers his body with his arms and scream.

Preview: School time; Kou was funny in this preview, doing a strange dance, and once again, riding on the top of the racks of the train.

Now he is letting Tooru do all the hard work and endangering himself ~ lol yea Westlo, he is a spineless bitch ^^

The episode was just quite good. Yuu decided just to transform into his male form for the lawlz, literally that was just the reason. And I dig his groovy laugh "kekeke" (reminds me of...).

We have a new character Ebisu who commands two guardian dogs. Now he is a dangerous person. It is always like this with those who like to 1) joke 2) wear a smile all the time 3) never open their eyes. Little else needs to be say that he holds some secrets...oh and he knows shadow binding jitsu ~ right out of naruto.

The fight wasn't too bad either. At least it was no cheesy fight we are used to seeing, though kuu seems a bit weak for being praised as a strong god.

Noboru's father made me laugh...he completely accept kuu into the family without giving so much as a scream when seeing a fox.

Kuu is still my fav, both male and female. I did wonder why he transformed back into a she during the fight but that was probably because she tried to charm the beasts :p

Lol at kuu destroying the tape player XD

And the preview ~ kou + more train racks haha!
wtf @ the minor nuisance before it gets nuked.

My review of episode 1.

I'm not familiar with the series - so this is just from a perspective of the anime itself as a stand-alone effort. I didn't *dislike* it. I'm fond of the Shinto motifs and use of elemental mysticism. The characters seem fairly interesting and the voicework of the kitsune herself is entertaining.

The art seems a bit drab (I did like the surreal moments with the snake spirit's form) and the animation doesn't really "light fire". But those aren't a problem if the story holds strong.

Biggest nit at the moment is that the editing of the episode itself seemed really awkward, rushed and that problem was not helped by the musical scoring. The music just failed to connect with the scene moods very well.
Hopefully, they were just trying to GET to a certain point in the character relationships ("the gang gets together and is introduced") and this wierd broken rushed feeling of the edits will subside. We'll definitely give it a few more episodes to find its feet.

not really a spoiler, just some thoughts about land god.

Land gods cant really be anywhere bad, as they are responsible for the growth and health of their tasked land and people, but whether you can trust them enough to have them help during pesky yokai related situations is another story. As for Ebisu, ..........
let's say he stays very true to his motto......... when you find out the truth about what he's up to later, i swear you'all gonna fall off your seats..............

As much as I dislike weak male leads, especially in harem type shows (then again the whole weak male lead is what makes these harem shows), when you live a somewhat normal life and then you are faced something you have never experienced before such as being attacked by a supernatural being, it is quite reasonable for them to scream and be spineless. It probably would be my first reaction as well, especially if you know you cannot defend yourself, or do not know how.

False bravado never gets anyone anywhere.

Same can be said for Tooru, but he is the younger brother, no matter what Noboru should protect him if he really considers him to be his sibling. Unless it is either Tooru being ignorant towards danger or that Noboru is the type to just run away and save himself.

FlareKnight

Thought it was easy to explain why Kugen was a bit weak during the fight. Hadn't been given the word of tribute yet so was restricted in how well she could fight.

That Ebisu worries me. I know he has responsibilities and all that, but just don't get a good feeling from them. Probably not some villain, but not a good feeling that's all. What a guy though, having his shrine wrecked so he can get some extra money out of it.

Gave Noboru the first episode. But he has to start pulling himself together a little better. Tooru was scared but at least was able to move. Though probably wasn't a very useful thing to put himself in danger and thus distract Kugen from just taking care of herself. But Noboru should react quicker to go after his brother. Was a bit too long delay in doing that, though at least he did go over eventually.

Not sure what I'll expect from him unless he can gain some abilities down the road. At least being confident I guess. Keep a closer eye on his brother and at least watch with seriousness.

That Shadow Snap brought me back to Slayers. Nothing like locking down someone by catching their shadow.

This anime is one of those I enjoy most so far although I still have to add a big question mark considering the many characters from the OP that haven't been introduced yet.

This anime is about a transsexual fox throwing fireballs around. It's not the kind of anime where I'd ponder the wussness and wimpness of characters. Which I wouldn't do in any case. It's this kind of flak coming from the fanbase that creates the type of lame clinically perfect males leads which makes me go for female leads in action anime instead who are generally given much more leeway.

A good episode i must say.Kuu and Kou was definitely cute in their own way...Kuu asked Tooru who just came back from his school to bring her to a place called "school"...and Tooru did.Noboru was shock when he saw Kuu and Tooru inside the gymnasium hall, some more with Kuu's dressing outfit which attract all the boys that watching her playing badminton against a guy (whom i believe happen to be the same guy that beat Noboru before Kuu came in)..just like last episode,Kuu was fascinated by almost anything that she saw in the school..and Sakura who was watching beside Noboru was totally speechless by everything that she saw...and she couldn't help but to think the reason behind it,which lead her to fantasize funny things. :heh:

Kuu and Kou were cute indeed in this episode. The way Kou explained things to Tooru and Sakura really makes me laugh hard, its funny but at the same time cute too, since she has that kind of quiet personality which really match the way she talks and doing things.

You know, if the anime stayed this way, like this episode, for a while longer, I'd find that perfectly nice. This was a great episode, comedy-wise. Only comedy-wise. But comedy is good. Very good. Comedy for life. What am I saying...?

Noboru... No time for him to be a wimp this episode. Instead, he becomes a harem/romance protagonist and spends the episode either worrying that Kuu and Kou will cause destruction to his house (it was pretty funny, since everything people said at school would remind him of those two... :heh: ) or being trapped in a hole.

Tooru... He's really got it together, unlike his brother. I'm sure Noboru wouldn't have acted the way Tooru did if he was the one who came across the carnage created by Kou.

Kou... Very funny this episode. Also proved she's a walking disaster at home, breaking every dish and cup, leaving the fridge open, etc.
Not very good with normal words, it seems... Instead, she uses sound effects. "shiwashiwa watawata bashibashi". :heh:

Kugen... was Kugen. Like always, not a very impressive character. Not a bad character, but I don't feel anything from him/her. Though it was funny when Kugen got hit with a mud ball, only to proceed and play whack-a-mole with the three mole spirits that felt like a random inclusion just for the sake of a spirit.

Misaki... One episode and I've taken a liking to her. :)
Kind of feel sorry she has to like Noboru, but I've seen worse pairs.
She makes some pretty strange faces (no one else makes such comical faces... :heh: ) too, and her delusions/inward thoughts are pretty funny too. Too bad it couldn't last longer, but there are only two girls for her to make imaginations based on.
In the end, she couldn't spend more time with Noboru, because she gets Geassed hypnotized to go home...
She even did a Maid Guy Shredder at the end.
She looks like Satsuki?

Preview: Kou continues to be a walking disaster, food harvesting, some purple haired girl that seems to be a spirit that can control vines. She's not in the OP, so a 1-episode only character?
I want more Misaki~! :) <--now my favorite character in this anime

Words of the wise...Unfortunately(Or should that be fortunately... :heh:) you'll still have that rare engaging male lead gem show up. For me this season it's been Shinkurō in Kure-nai.

The daily life of the brothers, Kuu and Kou are interesting, but the fight scenes have been pretty lame up till now. Kuu can use all elementals and her enemies only belong to one elemental, so it's all about her finding out the enemies' elemental and targeting their weakness. Frankly, I'd rather watch Rosario's "today's battle lasted 60 seconds" than these fight scenes.

My my...how much fail points can Noboru gain? Not only is he a wimp, now he is acting like a majoy spoil sport

He worries too much, someone should just go up and tell him to chill out.

I do feel sorry that Misaki had to take a liking to such an idiot *sigh* Speaking about Misaki, I really like her character :)
I thought she fits nicely into the "third wheel type" character but whereas it is usually done in an annoying and grossly exaggerated forceful way, I enjoyed her dellusions quite a bit. It was actually funny unlike others who have tried and failed :p

Kuu though, still wins all for me. She is just too cute (and sexy ^^). The other classmates in the school should be jealous of Noboru, even if the truth is that Noboru is an ungrateful "so and so".

The monsters this time was moles...and dam were they annoying. I felt a sense of pleasure seeing Kuu nuke the hell out of them after their little stunts. Sweet revenge.
Another interesting point for this series is that the "monster of the week" theme doesn't exactly feel like "monster of the week", or it isn't letting that ruin the show.

Kou is such a clutz. A cute one though XD

She will learn...over time...

Yet another entertaining episode ^^

The daily life of the brothers, Kuu and Kou are interesting, but the fight scenes have been pretty lame up till now. Kuu can use all elementals and her enemies only belong to one elemental, so it's all about her finding out the enemies' elemental and targeting their weakness. Frankly, I'd rather watch Rosario's "today's battle lasted 60 seconds" than these fight scenes.

Well looking at the OP looks like another Fox will appear in the series looks like they may be at odds with each other.

Looks interesting, I wonder what kind of monster it is this time (kinda looks like a tree).

Kuu certainly like to do as he/she pleases. Now he/she has gone back into fox form just for the lawls XD

Noboru is still not making an impression on me from what it looks like. Gah...he will probably be getting in Kou's way more than anything.

Unfortunatly, I can only see her as a third wheel in things, not quite there yet but she won't be shafted hopefully. In fact, this isn't so much of a romance series either (not unless Noboru stops with his crazy paranoia, however true they may be mind you :heh:).

Maybe I am just expecting the wrong thing of this show. Does Wagaya no Oinari-sama puts the focus on slapstick/comedy or more on magic and everything that goes with it?

From my point of view they massively overdid it with all those Sakura fantasies and paranoia. Sakura doesnt look too bad though. Also the older brother is the type you would like to shoot in the face ;_;

I wonder if Kou has any learning process ... I mean letting one or two dishes fall isnt that great of a deal, but she ruined the whole kitchen and couldnt even figure out how to stop the water. And how hard can it be to put the butter on a bread? -.-

Now to the good part:

The dragon made of sakura (english name?) petals looked awesome. Kuu is totally moe in female form. There is not that much more.

it is not a slapstick comedy but more of a slice of life comedy with a heavy dose of shinto magic and supernatural. i think someone said it reminded them of kamichu.

Well at least you can say Noboru and Sakura could go well together. Both have the ability to let their imaginations get carried away to the extreme. Single words can throw Noboru into a nightmare (though some of his panics were about things that happened) while Sakura can really let her mind dwell on even the most remote possibilities. Though can't blame her too much for being a bit jealous when a couple cute girls (one of which can turn into a guy) show up.

Kou has interesting ways to express herself. "I go wham wham" :).

My my...how much fail points can Noboru gain? Not only is he a wimp, now he is acting like a majoy spoil sport

He worries too much, someone should just go up and tell him to chill out.

Meh after three episodes I've just accepted he's the token straight man/wet blanket character for the show...

Either way putting the fool aside...KOU-CHAN!!!

Haha loved her trying to explain just what her purpose for living with them is complete with exaggerated gestures and everything... :heh:

Battles are still lame with the whole "pick the right elemental attack for MASSIVE DAMAGE" layout, but since this one was a pretty tongue in cheek affair to begin with (The preschool outfits were a big :twitch: moment heh...)so didn't really bother me much in the end.

Awesome episode today.Kou and Kuu are simply amazing, they keep amusing me to no end :heh: In today's episode,Kou again showing her skill in doing house chores, which usually ends up in failure, and putting Noboru into trouble. With her keep failing in doing her house chores properly, she scared that she didn't do her work properly as Noboru and Tooru's guardian..and worried about Tooru's condition due to her thinking that she might had hurt Tooru's feeling accidentally when she ask about Miyako in front of Tooru.

Noboru then explained to Kou that Tooru doesn't have any memories or happy moments with her mother, since Miyako died soon after Tooru was born.Hearing that from Noboru,Kou feels that she want to protect Tooru more and more. Her opponent for today is an earth element youkai, which has an advantage over Kou's water element. However her spirit to protect Tooru from danger leads her to show her true power which completely beat and send the youkai far away. She swore to herself that no matter what happen, she will keep Tooru safe from any danger.

Overall it was a nice episode...i just love Oinari in the way it is.Can't wait for the next episode to air. :):D

Well, that was a great episode. Didn't enjoy it as much as episode 3, but this episode was really interesting.
Oh, and the fight against the demon was good. Animated pretty well.

Noboru - Well, he didn't get to be a wimp in this episode. Then again, he has recently be occupied with family finances after all. Didn't get much appearance.

Tooru - The boy is stupid. Okay, it might just be because he's still young, but that was the most obvious trap I've seen used by an intelligent enemy.
On the other hand, still has more bravery then his brother (handling the enemy). Even tried to tell Kou to get away. Brave boy...
Doesn't have memories of his mother... Poor boy?

Kugen - Typical Kugen. It was funny seeing her fish like that though. :heh:

Kou - The one with the most development. Though it was already shown in the OP, she uses the water element. Also, it seems she has a dragon (龍族/ryuuzoku) inside her, which explains the scale-like things on her face. And it gives her really strong attacks. Never expected something like this... Dragon, tte...
In the meantime, still a walking destroyer of kitchenware...

Takagami parents - Explains how they met.
The mom seems to be the overly energetic type of person. And it seems, even after dying, her spirit kept on protecting the two brothers. Though she is weakening...
Also revealed is that priestesses of the Mizuchi family have short life-spans and seldom live past 30... Which, I guess, explains why she died so early.

Anyways, liked the episode a lot. Hope the next episode is just as good.

Random notes:
-The element being strong against others reminded me of Pokemon...
So far, Earth, Thunder, Water... Will there be Void?
-The monsters turning into their "original" forms reminded me of Houshin Engi...

Preview: Ebisu reappears, Noboru's mother (as a spirit)... Looking forward to it...

ep 4
Another exellent episode imo ~ I just love a series which I can relax and just watch rather than worrying about technicalities :)

Noboru's father is actually quite lucky to have met his wife. It makes me want to put a fluffy costume on and hope for some cute girl to jump on me ^^

But the story about the maidens dying early is just sad. But I guess there isn't any use to mourn for the dead, for that father was just happy to know that his wife's death isn't something that could have been escaped. Kuu seems to also feel saddened by this fact.

Kou also shone quite well this ep, and about time too. I just loved the part where she tries to make dinner and ends up blowing a hole in the pot XD

She has a dragon spirit inside of her? That is something I didn't expect but it is good to see that she isn't going to be a weak character throughout. The fight this week was pretty cool, and the monster itself was something new (Bean demon haha ~~).

In a way I feel sorry for Kou. She tries so hard but still screws everything up, and now she feels like she is getting the the way by causing trouble. It is good to see Noboru doing something right for a change and give her the confidence that she needs, I just hope that she won't become too depressed as she should just be herself :)

Noboru spending most of his time on the budget was lol...

Kuu recieved little screen time this week, but she still had her funny moments. I loved the way she is always so hungry, even to the extent that she went fishing :heh:

good episode. Kou was very strong in term of figting but when doing house work totally oppisite, make a hole on the pot, that was awesome. And Kugen don't like the food and want to put the table away, tat was nice :heh:

and their father was really lucky, like that then meet their mother >.<".

Unfortunately, no.

When you buy a DVD, you get a reversible card. Each card has a character on it like DVD 1's card is "Female Kuu" and DVD 2's is "Kou". DVD 3's Sakura Misaki. The website lists the other characters on the other cards, but none of those characters have appeared yet...
By collecting cards 1-6, if you flip them around to the back and combine them together, you get the picture I posted.
