It's why I no longer post wallpapers unless they come directly from the artist's site. The first thing I thought of when trying to develop a card for Shana was "Hey, Nietono no Shana is a cool sword." So I tried to mimic the effects of Umezawa's Jitte as a result...with a few tweaks to make it more red-flavored.

That's actually a CG from a visual novel (cough*18+ only*cough) by a software company called Yuzusoft. The illustrator's art style and characters bear an uncanny resemblance to Ito Noiji's, hence the mistake by some people that this is Shana grown up (as if she'll ever).

I've checked the credits of the site, it's definitely not Ito Noiji (though even she has drawn 18+ CG for other software companies before Shana and Haruhi).

costume = homemade/purchased/won/w.e
sword = beat up a phycho swordsmith dressed in samuri gear and when u right-click to loot him, he drops a sword!

I'd guess he photoshopped it. it is doable, to a quite lesser extent I did it myself (of course in other pictures); but with this much text and the outlines etc., it must have been one major PITA :twitch: still, it's been very well done!

I had no information on your gender, thus my choice of reference was influenced greatly by the laws of probability :heh: Please accept my apologies!

Anyway, lazyasian224, it's rather basic, just a lot of work: you mostly use the zoom (quite far in, so that you see the pixels), then the pipette tool to get the exact color of the outline. After finishing the outline (with a thin brush), you proceed with the larger surfaces, for example skin. If there's a shadow, you have to "guess" where it would continue and paint accordingly. If transitions seem too sharp/rough, the blur tool (used not too generously) can help a lot.

Of course, the above works best in small pictures, such as Signatures. For it to look as smooth as in the large pictures above, you have to train a bit and get a feeling for it. Especially fingers or whole limbs are often hardly surmountable obstacles if you don't have a general idea of how they would look.

Still, it can be great fun! Play some nice music in the background & have a tea at the ready... You will notice soon enough if you can muster the patience :D

If you plan on making it an animated Sig, keep in mind that at this size (say, at the maximum of 500x160px, or rather 400x160px), the number of frames can hardly exceed 4-5 frames, unless you make it lossy and with few (<64) colours (dithering not included).

Where are you getting these pics? I've never seen them before.

Well i dont mean to brag...... but i guess i can tell you. :D

My trick or "Paul's Method" as i have so curtiosly named it, is shown in these simple steps:
1) Type "www.google.com" in your internet address bar
2) When the page has loaded, select to search for images, then type "Shakugan no Shana" in the google search bar
3) Now comes the hard bit, you start viewing pictures from like the 5th or 6th page because all the ones before have already been posted.

And there you go:p Hope it helps :D

by the way here (http://www.megaloli.net/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/02thmb.jpg) is another one i found and liked. Its Shana and a character from an Anime called "Nanatsuiro Drops".Also found out that the illustrater of this anime is Noizi Ito, who is also known for illustrating Shakugan no Shana and the Haruhi Suzumiya series.

thx! I tried it and it worked but a little too well, i dont think im allowed to post the full sized pic. Now my next question would be: "How do you make the thumbnail small?"
