There are a lot of great moments in the first episode. If I had to pick my two favorite segments it would probably be these:

How can anyone, ANYONE forget the first dialog of Nagisa and Tomoya?
And THIS line must not be forgot, as it portrays the beginning of the story of CLANNAD.
Our journey starts, on this long, long steep slope.
Nagisa: But everything keep changing. All the fun and happy things are changing. But even so, are you still able to like this place?
Tomoya: Isn't it find as long as you find it? Isn't it find as long as you find the next fun and happy moments again?
This is the ONLY wise line Tomoya said in the whole story, and everyone forgets it?
Also this line is my favourite:
Nagis: Do you like this school?
I like this school very, very much.
And this line has its significance. Nagisa repeats similar lines over and over again through out the story so give it a good thinking about what it's about.

I did notice Tomoya get very angry just there, like he was going to punch him... for seemingly no reason.

i just watched the third episode (ya im behind) and man i was laughing the whole time
the part that truly took the cake was the sunahara half asleep scene. the whole thing is priceless

all the quotes have alrdy been said so not gonna bother repeating em, plus I've forgotten any others and am at work so can't go check up on what I've forgotten. Altho after reading through this thread I got urge to go watch all the eps again:p

Nothing special right? But, go to episode 11 and skip to 15:54 - 15:57, you will listen to it over and over again. Then Nagisa-chan's enchantingly melodious voice will repeat those words over and over again in your mind, like what Haruhi-sama did in Sound Around.
You should try it, really.

There's a Japanese-English Dictionary tumbling at my feet when I look down.
At the same time, Sunohara falls down with a nosebleed.

Kyou is cute. Tomoyo is pretty. But otherwise, they are both equally violent considering both of them speak with their actions rather than words.
Of course, we can always quote Kyou's infamous "That Sakagami girl...." whenever she references Tomoyo.

If she goes on rehearsing like this, she'll white out on the stage. How terrible would that be...

She finally realizes, and looks at her hand.
Tomoya: "You suddenly switched personalities just now, and went munching away on it."
Nagisa: "You're lying, I don't have a second personality!"
Tomoya: "You're not aware you have multiple personalities."
Nagisa: "Even so, I wouldn't eat the script!"
Tomoya: "You said that you'd be able to memorize it by eating it."
Nagisa: "Tomoya-kun, it's in your hand!"
Tomoya: "Ah, I got caught?"
Nagisa: "I would like for you not to get in the way..."
Tomoya: "Yeah... I'm sorry..."
She was really blaming me there, so I returned to being quiet.

No, I can't, since whatever I imagine is scary and involves me dying.

Nice little scene from Tomoyo's route.
Nice to see that the girls still have their motivations from other routes.
Setting: Tomoya has been dating Tomoyo for some time. Their having lunch with Sunohara like usual (loudly) when suddenly:
Voice: "Why you guys..."
There, the voice of someone whose hair sways.
Kyou: "You're causing trouble again.. I won't let this simply pass by..."
Tomoya: "Uh, you aren't the class rep here, you know?"
Kyou: "I'm speaking in Ryou's place... Yes, Ryou's... Hey, you."
She looks down on Tomoyo.
Kyou: "I hear you're good with fights. Let's have one, mano-a-mano..."
No matter how brute Kyou is, there's no way she's a match for Tomoyo.
The two face each other in the hallway.
Sunohara: "T-this is bad... what timing, forcing myself in all this time..."
Tomoya: "You'll definitely fall into their kicks."
Sunohara: "But, if this goes on, they'll both lose their memories from hitting each other!"
Tomoya: "You read too much manga."
Kyou starts first.
Stepping up, she waves her hand like a sword at Tomoyo's head
Tomoyo'll be able to handle this without a sweat. She easy dodges.
If high's no good, go low. Take her legs out.
Nimble, she evades it as well.
Tomoyo's not putting up any defense at all.
Maybe she's taking into account her opponent's her senior.

And then, Kyou...
Tomoyo fends her off easily enough but, she wouldn't stop attacking.
Looking desperate... she gnaws her teeth...
I think she's doing this, not because she's angry, but because she has some sort of overwhelming dejection towards Tomoyo.
To begin with, why is Kyou seeing her as an enemy...? (Gee Tomoya, I wonder why?)
Tomoyo: "That's enough..."
Tomoyo lets down her guard.
And towards her face...
Slap!
The palm of Kyou's hand slipped through and hit.
Kyou: "Why..... why did you... You're only good with fights..."
Tomoyo: ".........it might have been like that up until I entered this school. But, I'm doing my best from here on out. No matter what happens. That's what I decided."

Tomoyo: "If, by chance, you... If you happen to be on good terms with Tomoya, then... I, too, want to be on good terms with you. That's why... I don't want to continue this."
I have to say something.
Tomoya: "Her decision to do that is brave and powerful, isn't it? Even though I did whatever I wanted while I was suspended for these three days. Sunohara and I aren't even coming late to school anymore. Well, even though we get lunch in return, it's all good."
Kyou: "......... Hmm... Is that so..."
Tomoyo: "Somehow, I'd like to get along with you. I'm sorry for being noisy during lunch. I won't do it again. I promise. So, please don't start anything... Next time, you can join us for lunch."
Tomoyo holds out her hand.
Sunohara: "Yeah... don't kick me ever again."
She throws her hand at Sunohara.
They both kick him.
Kyou: "Well... I'll see what happens... from then on. I don't really know right now, anyway..."
Tomoyo takes her hand and they shake peacefully.

If one spoke to Tomoyo for just a bit, and honestly knew her up-front personality, there'd be no way anyone could hate her.

Nice little scene from Tomoyo's route.
Nice to see that the girls still have their motivations from other routes.
Setting: Tomoya has been dating Tomoyo for some time. Their having lunch with Sunohara like usual (loudly) when suddenly:
Voice: "Why you guys..."
There, the voice of someone whose hair sways.
Kyou: "You're causing trouble again.. I won't let this simply pass by..."
Tomoya: "Uh, you aren't the class rep here, you know?"
Kyou: "I'm speaking in Ryou's place... Yes, Ryou's... Hey, you."
She looks down on Tomoyo.
Kyou: "I hear you're good with fights. Let's have one, mano-a-mano..."
No matter how brute Kyou is, there's no way she's a match for Tomoyo.
The two face each other in the hallway.
Sunohara: "T-this is bad... what timing, forcing myself in all this time..."
Tomoya: "You'll definitely fall into their kicks."
Sunohara: "But, if this goes on, they'll both lose their memories from hitting each other!"
Tomoya: "You read too much manga."
Kyou starts first.
Stepping up, she waves her hand like a sword at Tomoyo's head
Tomoyo'll be able to handle this without a sweat. She easy dodges.
If high's no good, go low. Take her legs out.
Nimble, she evades it as well.
Tomoyo's not putting up any defense at all.
Maybe she's taking into account her opponent's her senior.
Tomoya: (No... with the exception of Sunohara, she wouldn't lay a hand on anyone in this school...)
And then, Kyou...
Tomoyo fends her off easily enough but, she wouldn't stop attacking.
Looking desperate... she gnaws her teeth...
I think she's doing this, not because she's angry, but because she has some sort of overwhelming dejection towards Tomoyo.
To begin with, why is Kyou seeing her as an enemy...? (Gee Tomoya, I wonder why?)
Tomoyo: "That's enough..."
Tomoyo lets down her guard.
And towards her face...
Slap!
The palm of Kyou's hand slipped through and hit.
Kyou: "Why..... why did you... You're only good with fights..."
Tomoyo: ".........it might have been like that up until I entered this school. But, I'm doing my best from here on out. No matter what happens. That's what I decided."
Kyou: "........."
Tomoyo: "If, by chance, you... If you happen to be on good terms with Tomoya, then... I, too, want to be on good terms with you. That's why... I don't want to continue this."
I have to say something.
Tomoya: "Her decision to do that is brave and powerful, isn't it? Even though I did whatever I wanted while I was suspended for these three days. Sunohara and I aren't even coming late to school anymore. Well, even though we get lunch in return, it's all good."
Kyou: "......... Hmm... Is that so..."
Tomoyo: "Somehow, I'd like to get along with you. I'm sorry for being noisy during lunch. I won't do it again. I promise. So, please don't start anything... Next time, you can join us for lunch."
Tomoyo holds out her hand.
Sunohara: "Yeah... don't kick me ever again."
She throws her hand at Sunohara.
They both kick him.
Kyou: "Well... I'll see what happens... from then on. I don't really know right now, anyway..."
Tomoyo takes her hand and they shake peacefully.
Sunohara: "Ahh... I got hit by the Fiercest and Strongest of them all... Is this okay, Okazaki?!"
Tomoya: "Why not?"
If one spoke to Tomoyo for just a bit, and honestly knew her up-front personality, there'd be no way anyone could hate her.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if Clannad was more of an action thing and there was this epic Tomoyo vs Kyou fight. :D Well, this is amusing too.

Strangely enough, all the girls scenes in that closet (Tomoyo, Nagisa, Kyou) show that they're open to doing stuff with Tomoya (except maybe Nagisa, although she does show she likes him).
Tomoyo gets pinned down on Tomoya. (She actually tries to make a move on him)
Tomoya gets pinned down on Nagisa. (She's not exactly complaining though)
And nobodies pinned in Kyou's scene. (But Kyou likes to jump to conclusions)
Note: These are as close to H-scenes that Clannad actually comes.

Tomoya is just a man among men. To this day, he's still my favorite male lead. Cross Game's Kitamura Kou is probably the only other male lead that comes close :p You guys should watch Cross Game, incredibly good series (as long as you don't mind the classic drawing style, which you shouldn't considering the quality of the content.)

The romance actually isn't all that prominent. But you really should give it a try, the male lead is the closest to Tomoya that I've seen so far (I'm not saying they're similar but Kou is just a great male lead ;))
