Oh!~~ First post!
If Mea is still alive, I hope she can make a good signature...
Doki doki~
No flashbacks, hopefully...
I hope it is a good episode.
(Plus, a good reason to watch the opening theme again)

This ep will make or break Shana Season 2. Let's see how the story goes.

Indeed it does. I been dying to see the Bal Masque make their triumphant return and to see if they are planning revenge on Yuji or the same old plan to capture him.

If they are planning on following the same route as the novel, I think the latter would be more likely.
alright, episode has aired, quick thoughts from looking at the screens (will probably have more after I see the thing)
-Shana's still trying to cook! (apparently pissed about Yoshida still having lunchboxes for yuji last week)
-and failing miserably.
-gives yuji a lunch box, but since she managed to light the food on fire while cooking it, the lunch box is just full of melon bread. :heh:
-Yuji apparently still having the weird dreams, this time a flashback to wilhelmina trying to kill him last season
-tomogara looking a lot creepier this week (I hate clowns...)
-Shana vs. fake Bel Peol? this seems a whole lot like melty blood all of a sudden.
-seems everything gets resolved at the end, since they're back in class.
oh and,
OH MY GOD! DID HECATE JUST JOIN THE CLASS?!
anyway, looking very good so far. very good.
Just finished watching it, this episode was much improved over the last one in my opinion. The arc ended as I had anticipated (I figured it'd be this one or the next).

I really need to rewatch season one. >.<
Hecate (AKA Supreme Throne) is one of the Bal Masque. She's the little girl with green hair that wears white robe-ish clothe (she's the person in front of the clock in the opening).
She had a few "scenes" with Yuuji in the previous season and seems to be a bottomless pit.
*looks at screenshots*
HECATE?! :twitch::twitch:
Woah-kay......

This was actually a very good episode in my opinion, big improvement over last week.
-though the majority of what happened were repeats of various events last season (Shana cooking, Shana getting jealous over Yoshida's lunches and giving Yuji melon bread, Wilhelmina trying to 'kill' Yuji, Wilhelmina being a bad cook, Shana and Yoshida having the "you don't understand yuji" "but I love him, so that doesn't matter" argument.) they're all done with some variation. exposition is added to a lot of them, or redone animation, or slight changes, or all of the above.
-edit: actually seems like everything before the halfway point was real... edit: nevermind, I'm dumb. apparently that was the daily practice. Wilhelmina is just a little...er, extreme.
-also, Yuji definitely seems to be favoring shana. he hesitates at taking Yoshida's lunchbox, and yet seems really happy at getting one from shana (though that excitement dies down after it turns out it was full of melon bread due to shana's failed cooking) yuji trying to be courteous is also funny as hell, as he proceeds to get sick from eating both the lunches.
-Shana and Wilhelmina are really damn cute this week. Shana manages to burn all the food (with Yuji's mom looking on with a fire extinguisher, scared), and Wilhelmina basically gets defeated by a table full of vegetables. I know these two aren't technically related, but it really does feel like mother like daughter.
-Mare's CREEPY this week. Clowns are just scary.
-fights are short, but the animation is good.
-always interesting to see that duality between shana at school and shana in battle. despite the usual jealously, she doesn't hesitate to tell Yuji to save Yoshida when they're fighting Mare
-Yuji apparently got a power up from last season's finale. about time really.
-They've added back what they removed in the twins arc in the 1st season. The Reiji Maigo rips off and absorbs Mare's arm instead of Sydonay's, but the basic flavor is the same and it's leading to the same plot line. Wilhelmina is already hinting at knowing something, and connections are being drawn to Margery and Bal Masque too. seems like the story of the Reiji Maigo is well on it's way.
-Single thing I'm happiest about though is that Hecate gets added to the class at the end of the episode. I'm very much looking forward to next week.
-edit: nevermind, he doesn't quite look the part now that I think about it.
I just noticed they changed the opening slightly this episode, it now goes on for an extra 3 seconds and cuts off more naturally than in the first episode.

Hecate was the first time I noticed Mamiko Noto actually. The whole Yuji trapped with Hecate scene and the haunting voice was seductive (I sound like Kaoru, but hold on a sec), and kind of a turn on (OHHHHHHH!). I'm serious though, Hecate rocked and I was disappointed there wasn't much of her last season. I think she's a sympathetic character and thought she'd be an ally by the end of last season. Looks like that's going to finally happen now.

Well, it is definitely better than the first episode in the fact that there weren't so many flashbacks.
But, Mea!... *sob* USODA! In the end, that was just a Mystes... *sob*
Nothing really changed with the romance... Heck, more of Shana and Yoshida bonding of sorts.

I saw the recaps at Random Curiosity, and was worried they might be turning this into a harem anime. I really hope that *doesn't* happen next episode with Hecate at the school, but from the comments here, this episode at least actually sounds pretty good.
Yuji trying to eat *both* lunches sounds so much like him--good for him favoring Shana, though.

So that's how JC STAFF explain Yuji's level up: By having Mana Transfer...sorry, Memory Transfer with Hecate.
The anime also finally introduces the "Kaikin", the safety mechanism of the Reiji Maigo to prevent anyone from harming its host Mistes for a specific reason which I'll not spoil here.
In novel volume 4, which details Shana's fight with the Aizen siblings (The goth-loli and shota siblings), as in the anime, when Sydonay (the guy with the shades) saw Yuji moving, he digs his hand inside Yuji. This is where the "Kaikin" first comes into action, severing Sydonay's arm (though Syd later grew a new one with ease).
Syd's severed arm then got absorbed by the Reiji Maigo, adding to Yuji's total HP, er, I mean total Power of Existence.
Last but not least, HECATE IN SAILOR FUKU!!!
At first I thought the only chance of seeing Hecate in a school uniform was in one of the sketches in series illustrator Ito Noiji's art corner at the end of novel Vol 8. Never would I think that JC STAFF would actually grant Ito her wish. (For those of you wondering, yes, schoolgirl Hecate is an anime original. )
(Ito has similar experience with another art sketch, showing a "manly" Yuji and a "girly" Shana, i.e. Shana and Yuji had their bodies swapped. Series author Takahashi Yashiro wrote a special short story for her, included in her Shana artbook, Guren. )
PS I LOL'ed when someone said the guy in the preview looked like that Zest knight in Nanoha StrikerS.

Very true, since in season Marco (or was it Margery?) said that Tomogara can change their appearance...
If that girl isn't her, then it's possible that Hecate may have seen her and 'liked' her appearance, assuming it...
We'll soon find out...in a week or two :heh:

Well they finish up the dream episodes. Wilhelmina really went all out on poor Yuji. She was a little riled up because Shana was asking Yuji's mom for cooking lessons. Though it's explained why since Wilhelmina is like some people I know (bit of myself), only eat what comes out of the microwave or you pour hot water into it :).
Certainly another battle of. Yoshida not understanding anything about Yuji's situation and the response of her loving him and that conquers all. Pretty sure Shana gets tempted a lot to just take the sword to her. :heh:
Seems like a Hecate clone turning up at the end. Metamorphosis did say not to do anything strange with her so it's hard to believe she'd be sent out there like that. Seeing her freeze in the preview adds doubts and leaves me wondering what is going on. Unless she's got nerves of steel and having Shana pointing a sword at her means nothing.

That's because the anime modified this scene. which will deal some issues with Yuuji's "growth". (that's why they pulled "hecate influence" plot device to explain Yuuji's power)
In the novel, Sydonay somehow lost his arm and retreat, and the cut limb was left in Yuuji. (that's actually what kinny riddle says as anime completely skipped this important detail)

I haven't read the novel (so I don't know what happens), but according to the anime, all she wants is to find herself and fill that emptiness inside her...

Didn't synchronizing with Hecate have a similar effect? And he did stay that way for quite some time :uhoh:
Alastor even commented about that in this episode...I'll have to check the subs to see what exactly did he talk about :heh:

No, and i will refer to Kinny's explanations:
In novel volume 4, which details Shana's fight with the Aizen siblings (The goth-loli and shota siblings), as in the anime, when Sydonay (the guy with the shades) saw Yuji moving, he digs his hand inside Yuji. This is where the "Kaikin" first comes into action, severing Sydonay's arm (though Syd later grew a new one with ease).
Syd's severed arm then got absorbed by the Reiji Maigo, adding to Yuji's total HP, er, I mean total Power of Existence.
as you can see with this, the difference is quite big, since the Reiji Maigo already used the Kaikin already.
That is actually already a trigger for the existence growth back in the Sorath/Tiriel arc, which is quite early compared to the anime.
If we add that yuuji absorbed sydonay existence (well a tidbit), it is quite a stimulant.
meanwhile, hecate explanations are still valid, but a bit more far fetched than this. It looks like the Kaikin was a bit too convenient there.

Well that was a great deal more entertaining then the first episode thats for sure...Bento full of melon pan... :heh:
And I could careless if thats the real hecate or not...Aslong as she has mamiko's fabulous voice i'll be enjoying her screen time immensely. ;)
One last thing I enjoyed about this episode was giving poor yoshida alittle relevance to the story. Still don't think she stands a chance in hell with the guy though. :p

Well, she is a "tomogara/denizen" and can eat existence. So even if she isn't "evil" by nature, she can do "evil" if she wants.
Though she seems to rather like stay in her little room and pray instead (which really doesn't seem to do much...)

LOL Shana and Wilhelmina were so cute with the whole cooking thing. The good part is that Shana recognises that what Wilhelmina does can't be called cooking. I wonder if Shana's lack of physical development in certain areas is to do with her diet :p.
I feel sorry for Yuji, but as his buddy pointed out, he doesn't need to act considerate in a weird way which he did. Personally I think he should pull back and let his buddy have a shot.
I really liked the way they recovered from missing out the arm absorbing part in the novels, the Hecate bonding really does make sense and I love the fact that he now has the existence equivalent of a Guze King. Due to his quick nature (at least in non love situations) I think he would be a great support caster

Awesome Ep! A lot better than last week's. It was hilarious at some points of the episode. Can't wait for next week's episode. A whole week!!!:upset:
Just finished watching it and the highlight of this ep was the 2 second clip of Chigusa holding the fire extinguisher while watching Shana cook. Hope we get some more Chigusa and Shana scenes this season because they were some of the best parts of season 1.
When will the love triangle end?

I think he's trying, but he can't exactly tell Yoshida "Look, I'll never like you back, so how about letting Ike hit on you?". He just doesn't have it in him.

are you guys watching the raw of it?
Personally I am supping off the hard labor of the nice chaps from SS-Eclipse (ty guys)
@Anh_Minh - I was thinking not only of backing his mate up, but other various things too.
It's pretty dangerous hanging around Yuji, because he has a bulls eye pinned to his back.
He is no longer human and whilst he may no longer disappear, what about aging?
He was planning on leaving the city, but now they don't want to make any rash decisions... What the bleep happened to protecting the ones you care about :twitch:.
I thought he sorted out his feelings for Shana at the end of S2.
It is pretty dangerous for Yuji to hurt Shana's feelings, whilst she might not hurt him, I think that Wilhelmina would not hesitate to eliminate him and scatter the hongu. Although I think that might be dangerous now that he has such a huge existence.
And the main reason personally is because I personally prefer Shana X Yuji more, and I don't even seen room for a 3 some compromise :p

I have a theory about the school girl at the end
it isn't hecate but the dude who stalks her, the one that changes into that beast monster. He was off to do something, and if he wanted to infiltrate and needed a school age disguise who else would that pedo pick? Maybe i am going out on a limb but who knows....
I loved the funny wilhemina (sp?) moments, wasn't expecting comic relief from her side :D

I'm going to give it an 8, only because the villain ended up being rather disappointing. But a good ep overall-- Chigusa holding that fire extinguisher was hilarious. And it really is fitting that Shana would set the food on fire. Willhelmina getting all jealous of Chigusa and then trying to learn how to cook herself was also a nice treat.
They dealt okay with the triangle in this ep; I thought. Nothing over the top. Yuuji thought about refusing the bento; I think an American guy should definitely do that, but in Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if it'd be just too rude, which was essentially Ike's point. And then the poor guy felt obligated to eat both lunches.
Some points for Yuuji for figuring out the connection between Shana missing training and his bento; nice to see the usually sharp male lead be a little less oblivious to the love-interest. And judging by Yuuji's enthusiastic reception of Shana's bento, Yoshida really doesn't have a chance.
The Shana/Yoshida interactions in this episode were also interesting. Shana trying to use fighting as an excuse for Yoshida to stop bringing her bento, and Yoshida (good for her!) calling that out for what it was--a bs excuse. And then Shana actually meeting Yoshida halfway--I guess they'll just both bring half-bentos now. And I get the feeling Shana's jealous of how frankly Yoshida can express her feelings; look at her reaction to Yoshida tucking Yuuji in at the end--sorta-of a "I wish I could do that, but am too proud and embarrassed to do so" look to her face.
I for one actually like how over the course of the series, Yoshida has actually grown a spine, while Shana has become less over-the-top jealous and possessive. It's not that I think that Shana is now willing to "share" Yuuji with Yoshida; it's just that I think she realizes now whether or not she likes it, Yoshida's going to be a part of Yuuji's life, as long at least as they stay in the city. Compare that to Shana's over-reaction to seeing Yuuji with Yoshida during the festival arc, or worse yet, the early ep. where she went psycho on Yuuji for calling her "just a classmate" to Chigusa.
Watching the ep, as opposed to screen-caps, it does now seem very unclear who this look-a-like Hecate is. It also looks like we should be moving away from the triangle a bit; I think that's working so far, but I also don't want them to flog it either.

Didnt yuji ask about aging back in S1 when he first was told how reji works? I dont remember him getting an actual answer though...

Hmmm I'm pretty sure they told him when he was practicing on the top of the roof, or was it after he didn't disappear from the root after he sacrificed himself for his class?
That is one thing on my mind. If torches are designed to just disappear when they run out of existence, does that mean they won't age? Personally I hope he and Shana can team up for an eternity together :heh:

First of all better then the first episode, second Shana giving melon bread in obetno to Yuji was very funny. Now Hecate or a girl that looks like Hecate (most likely thought the girl is Hecate) being a transfer student is interesting, and if that is Hecate interaction between Shana, Yuji, and Hecate is going to interesting to watch.

actually, Shana's lack of physical development is due to her not aging since she became a flame haze. I reckon she was 11 when she accepted the flame haze job which is why she is an eternal loli...:D
Can that really be Hecate?
So is this gonna be the end to that girl(the horn girl) who makes those dreams? I thought she was gonna play a more important role

I was thinking that too, but I included the horny girl into the love harem. From how I read it Hecate lost the memories and feelings she gained from bonding with Yuji after they split, but maybe she will remember enough to want to rebond with him :heh:
Oh I just thought of something.... Couldn't they just convert Yuji and Hecate into an all you can eat buffet so they can stop eating the existences of everyone else?

Yeah, Shana is 11, though the official site has something added to her age:
(見かけは11、2歳)
Does this mean that 2 years have passed since Shana became a Flame Haze?
As mentioned before, the character map as been updated, and some places where there were characters (like Khamsim and Tenmoku Ikkou, or whatever his name was :heh:) have been cleared.
So it seems we'll be seeing another Mystes and Flame Haze, a bunch of Tomogara and maybe even Yuuji's father :heh:

I think we might not be giving Wilhelmina enough credit. We see a scene with her against the legion of unconquerable vegetables, but later on she and Shana are eating. It doesn't look like it's Chigusa's work, either, because if Chigusa had made the food why isn't she eating along with Yuji?
Perhaps Wilhelmina managed a victory in the end.

Depends on if they were cooked or not as Shana has mentioned RAW :twitch:
I miss Alastor's opening narration.
But this new Tomogara is intriguing me, as well as Yuuji's status of "Keeper".
Yeah, Shana is 11, though the official site has something added to her age:
(見かけは11、2歳)
Does this mean that 2 years have passed since Shana became a Flame Haze?
I think it means "Shana appears to be 11 or 12 years old".

I think the raw reference was for food that can be eaten "raw" such as salad, bread, and the likes.

He is no longer human and whilst he may no longer disappear, what about aging?
Yuji and other flame hazes are immortal and they cannot age.
Who is the guy in the preview? Seems like he is related to the transfer student. I believe that Yoshida still has a chance. She can openly express her feeling anytime while Shana is still reluctant to do so. I am quite wary of what Bel Peol and Sydonay are up to. Hopefully, Shana and others can overcome their sinister plans.
What I want to know is if Hecate has developed her own personal agenda after what Yuuji told her last time. In spite of her supposed ranking as a leader of the Bal Masque, she wasn't much more than a puppet for Bel Peol before. But her naivety was rather tactfully shattered, and her goals might well have shifted. I personally suspect a triplecross in the future.

I used to think Yoshida maybe had a chance, but I think ep. 2 really does show how doomed her efforts really are. Yes, Shana's awkwardness makes her unable to play her stronger hand and "win" decisively, but look at Yuuji's reaction to Shana's bento compared with his reluctance to take Yoshida's. He still acts that way even after all of Shana's repeated denials and efforts to make them seem just like "friends" (excluding the confession that Yuuji never heard).
It's a real shame for Yoshida, who I think is an extremely likable character. But in the end, she really can't compete with the Flame Haze, not because, as Shana tells herself in this episode, Yuuji will choose Shana because as a Mistes, he's now of her world, but because Yuuji wants Shana for, well, just being Shana. Which I think is one of the real selling points of this show--a male lead, who though a bit dense with regards to women's attitudes toward himself (although he's quite good at reading other people's relationships), has his heart in the right place, and who has the maturity to take people as they are, as opposed to what he wants them to be.

Well I'd guess Yoshida has a chance to a degree. Or at least until she gets old enough to get in trouble for having a relationship with a kid :).
Anyways am curious when Ike is going to make his own move. Since the OP at least shows he isn't going to be sitting around the whole time. Not sure how strongly if at all Yuji would go after Yoshida. Certainly sees her as a friend, but in the end just personally think he's more drawn to Shana.
Does seem like things are going to be moving not just in the relationship field soon. After all Wilhelmina's current opponent is cooking and Margery is just lounging around drinking all the time.

The idea of Hecate in the school is just amazing. I don't know what it was, but in the first season, Hecate had something surrounding her that just really drew her in as my favorite character in the past couple of series I had seen.
And the second show was just like the first. But it showed even more potential for future events. I like where it's going.

I can see one way how Yoshida can get past the whole she is human he is miste issue. Have it out with Hecate for hitting on Yuji (if that is her), get eaten and spend her few remaining days with Yuji as he would want to fulfill her last wishes....
That I think would make for a really really tearful ending to Yoshida

I don't know...
Yoshida seems to be Yuji's connection to the world of humans. to kill her is really only something I'd condone if the entire story was coming to a close, to set the apocalyptic tone. But honestly, I think she has more potential as someone in the epilogue, since she's the human who's arguably closest to the 'other side' Yuji and Shana exist in; She'd really make a wonderful foil to the other characters regardless of the situation. so yeah, Yoshida should live, since she has certain traits that make her rather unique and therefore useful from a story perspective.

Hm, so I was kept interested most of the episode but it still doesn't capture the excitement of the first season for me, so 8/10. You can say that I'm rating it based on expectations, but it is a sequel after all, and I looked forward to it because the first season was good. Anyways....
The one thing that impresses me most is how difficult it is to take sides on any level. I'm definitely on Shana's side but I can't hate Kazumi, because that is just not possible. It's the same with Hecate, she's too cute.
Another thing I like about this episode/series is the progression of the story. The transition from romance to action to comedy and back is almost perfect, and I almost never have to stop and rewind for some reason.
The only thing I have a problem with right now is the action plot, because so far it's not that interesting. Friagne was interesting, but this dream thing...I don't like.

I gave this episode a 10 solely for the foreshadowing that Yuji is going to do SOMETHING this season :frustrated:. His entire role consists of him playing detective and figuring everything out, then getting kidnapped/raped when the enemy shows up. Maybe he'll finally be able to fight someone for more than 3 seconds before getting curbstomped.
Now onto a more important matter. Yoshida. Seriously, she no longer brings anything to the table other than annoyance. She should just stay out of Shana's way before she gets burned :nono:. It's not like she can be with Yuji anyways. I'm pretty sure she'll die a lot sooner than he does. So unless she mysteriously becomes a flame haze, I'm just going to pretend that she isn't on the screen.
Not much else regarding this episode. Shana cooking and the bento were pretty amusing. Anyone who didn't expect melon bread to pop out of it was in denial :D

Has anyone noticed JC STAFF has changed the animation for the formation of Fuuzetsu? It's now more similar to how they did it in the movie.
In series 1, Fuuzetsu are formed by a magic circle spiralling around the designated area followed by the atmosphere turning flaming red (or green or whatever, depends on the Flame Haze and Denizen). In the movie, after the magic circle, a series of "black threads" shoot up from the ground into the sky, eventually threading together to form a dark dome-like shape.

If you're looking for great doses of romance and school life in this anime, don't. :) They come in small packages, despite being the main attraction for some.
It's not just Yoshida that Yuuji can relate to in the human world, but most importantly his family. I recalled him having troubled thoughts about leaving his parents alone in the city to go off with Shana, and that the first thing he was worried about was whether his mother was a Torch or not. Aside from Kazumi, I'd say his family is the most important thing keeping him in touch with the 'human world'.

The battle for Yuuji's heart continues at a rapid pace. Does anyone else think that Yoshida has really turned up the heat after the 1st season. I agree that Yoshida is the key to keep Yuuji connected to the human world. If she was not around it would be very easy for him to get pulled into the world of fighting. The serious forshadowing was heavy this time around. I expect to see some casualties this season as the fighting will probably get more intense. Yuuji's training is evidence of that its gotten to the point where Shana needs help.
I might have missed this but what happen to the sword that Yuuji aquired in teh 1st season from the psycho twins?

Yes, I did but did not bother to point it out since I already commented that I enjoyed the new look in the movie thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=30270). It would make sense for them to port it over to the second season. I'm curious as to what other designs they had before settling on this one though.

yea thats why i was asking i cant see Yuuji going at hand to hand even with all the stored up power he has. Even some of the most power people usually have a weapon to channel there energy. Focused energy is always better than random out burst of power god knows who you will hit with it. I think he does need some type of weapon he cant dodge forever damnit. What i like about Yuuji is that he is not affraid to fight and the fact that is also training on his own accord to. Shana needs to make sure that she does not get distracted in fight thinking about who the hell is giving a bento to Yuuji this week.

Well I'm going to hope Shana has gotten to a point where she won't let herself be distracted by outside issues. Long as she can confirm her own feelings and doesn't have Yoshida trying to flirt with Yuji during a battle it should be alright :).
At least with Yuji going through training she's less likely to worry about what he's doing. Though it'd help if he could get some kind of offense weaponry. It's at least gotten to a point where she will be forced to fight her battles and trust Yuji to handle his end.
Besides no worry about who is giving Yuji the bento that week. They both will :). Just less so he doesn't end up hospitalized.

The official website has updated with the unknown slot for a Misaki High student filled in with Fumina Konoe (AKA Hecate-clone).
A girl that transfered to Misaki High School. Becomes Yuuji's classmate in the second semester. Her appearance is similar to a Denizen of the Crimson World, but the details are unknown. Living in a big rented mansion in the city, she is being taken care of by a butler and has no parents. Disinterested in the world, she speaks in a polite way. She loses to drowsiness in a loose (?) atmosphere. Has a personality that differs from ordinary people.
The chances of her being Hecate somewhat decreased.

The themes for this episode were brought to you by Jealousy and Nightmare on Elm Street.
Same plot as last episode with a few new developments that everybody probably already knows about. I'm guessing Bal Masque will be getting back into things now that the DS character/promo things is out of the way. Cannot wait to see Hecate again because even though she had next to no screentime or development in the first series, she left a lasting impression on me. As for the characters, everyone seems jealous of someone else, like it's some sort of soap opera. The love triangle is as strong as ever between Yoshida, Shana, and Yuji, but now Wilhemina appears to have some overprotective mother complex about Shana with relation to Yuji and the G-Man looking guy who's name I can't remember is obsessed with Hecate in relation to the rest of the world. I don't see this turning into Days Of Our Lives or anything, but it's just amusing to note the obviousness of this theme this time around.

part you were confused on is along the lines of "when she runs out of energy she usually ends up overcome with drowsiness". basically she's an anemic or something of that nature.

I think Wilhemina is as jealous of Chigusa's relationship with Shana as she is suspicious of Yuuji--the two being, of course, connected. Chigusa certainly picked up on it, which is why she told Shana that it should be Wilhemina to teach her, before Shana told her about Wilhemina's helplessness in the kitchen.

Am looking forward to when things really get going since there is a lot of interesting things they can do here just on the scale of fights and the stakes that could be on the line.
Of course you know there will continue to be the relationship area with Yuji, Shana, Yoshida, and Ike making things complicated. Do wonder if they'll toss in that Hecate look a like just to add to it all.
Do wonder if that means there is no way to access the Reiji Maigo. Could end up with the belief it's better to destroy Yuji and hope the next torch who has it will be easier to get a hold of.

since Yuji obviously never had a spell of that sort put on him and Mare was of course able to enter Yuji, it's safe to assume it's something that is cast on the Reiji Maigo vs. Mystes carrying it. so it would continue to exist even if the torch changed.
guess it's kind of confusing though because of what happened with Sydonay in season 1. -_- gonna have to go back and see if he ever actually touched the thing. edit: oh, he never did touch it, he just recognized what it was and then proceeded to get kicked by Margery. kinda poor planning on their part, but it still works out.

Eh, this episode was kind of underwhelming. Primarily, it just reminded me of why I dislike Yoshida. Seriously...I can't help but feel I'd love this show a lot more without the silly love triangle. Wars are won with swords, not bentos.
Yuuji also loses serious points with me in this one. He's got no words of praise for the girl who took at least half a dozen hits to the gut while protecting him, but gushes over the girl who did nothing but wake up. Come on now...know where your priorities lie.

Good to see Yuji got a powerup. King-of-guze level mana? Sounds pretty awesome, but he has a long way to go before he starts shooting fireballs out of his hands. Which would be pretty funny. Does he get to shoot fireballs out of his hands in the novels? A simple yes/no would do. :p

When they saw that girl, Yuuji was surprised and Shana stopped space and time with a Seal. The girl’s name is Fumina Konoe, a transfer student that was just recently introduced by the homeroom teacher. Fumina looks far too similar to Hecate, one of the Bal Masque whom attacked Misaki City. But because Fumina could not move in the Seal and is not a Denizen, Shana and the others decide to watch her. Because she has lived overseas for so long, she does not understand how to go about her school life. Her classmates decide to treat Fumina nicely, who’s speech and movements were like a princess’s. But, Shana, without uncertainty, prepares a plan. And then, the time comes.
EDIT: Now we need an episode where the characters get invited to her mansion's pool......

The Hougu is Mare's, not the Mystes'. That's what I understood at least. The Mystes could have had some other trivial treasure/hougu inside her, but what was most important to Mare was it's ability to move inside the Fuzetsus. Guze tend to have their own Hougus. The Mystes could have had some other trivial treasure/hougu inside her, but what was most important to Mare was it's ability to move inside the Fuzetsus. Guze tend to have their own Hougus. This brings up another weird point... flying Mystes?
*sigh*
Maybe Mea/Unknown Cosplay Girl will be doomed to be a filler character that left strange questions/plot holes...
:heh::heh:
Remember Tenmoku Ikkou? He was a Mystes too, also the previous owner of Nietono no Shana.
And I also suspect he had Reiji Maigo in him too, would explain a few things :uhoh:
Anyway, it was explained in that episode of how Shana became a Flame Haze, that a man volunteered to become a Mystes, so it could bring Nietono no Shana to its rightful owner.
So, we can assume that Mystes can be made, and shaped according to the creator's/human's will.
Just a theory though....:heh:

I highly doubt he had the Reiji Maigo in him. Tenmoku Ikkou had lost nearly all personality other than the desire to fulfill the 'wish' of the Hougu he held, and his flame was next to nothing. If he had the Reiji Maigo, his flame would have stayed at a normal level and kept his personality (like Yuji), wouldn't he?
anyway, its perfectly reasonable that a torch being used by a Denizen could have whatever shape the denizen wanted. After all, Rinne come in all different shapes and sizes depending on what a Denizen wants them to be.

Besides her profile and episode 3 preview summary, we don't really know how similar they act.
Just two more days......... The wait is painful, plus Wednesday only has Dragonaut for me...
The only reason I can think of right now to add Fumina to the show is to appeal to Hecate fans and show off what Hecate would look like if she wore various other clothing, with a reasonable reason for the display...

Bit of a late reply, but in regards to Yoshida (or even his parents) being Yuji's connection to the human world is a load of tosh. It is just one more inconsistency in an otherwise excellent story. Why do I say this? Well do you recall how much angsting he had about leaving the city? The primary reason is because he cares about everyone in it and doesn't want to put them in danger as he is currently the worlds biggest bullseye.
Him wanting a relationship with a human never mind someone he cared about, makes as much sense as him running off after Yoshida in S1 when she found out he was a torch. Nice one Mr Story Writer, what happened to leaving his mum and countless other people in the festival to be eaten!
They had a great chance imho to make this story an epic, but currently are taking the easy way out and rehashing the same old relationship tosh. Hell they even warped the ending of S1 to accommodate this.
Not necessarily... Friagne used to lend his Hougu's to Marianne all the time! I know this is a trivial matter but plot discrepancies always bug me D:
As far as I know, not every hougu is associated with a torch. Besides, Marianne is just a rinne and Friagne is a tomogara.
If you train hard enough, you, too, can be an immortal, soulless, battle-hungry samurai with a cool sword. :uhoh::heh:
Well, according to the lore of Tsukihime, Ciel's ability to keep up in speed and strength with the strongest vampire ever to walk the earth comes more from the fact that she was able to train herself to that degree due to her inability to die than from any supernatural ability itself, and that any human can gain that sort of physical power if they live long enough without suffering the enfeebling effects of age. Ciel recieved nearly a millennium's worth of cumulative knowledge at age 16, so she had enough headstart achieve that in less than a decade.
Or in short, yes. It'd just take a lifespan far longer than anything a human has to spare. I honestly don't think that the Flame hazes' superhuman stats only come from relying on the power of their "sponsors," though that's obviously a part of it.

Hougu are made from power of existence. it's not like any of them start out in a torch, a Crimson denizen/lord has to make them first.

denizens don't tend to keep all their hougu on their person. like shana they have dimensional pockets.
and when a flame haze kills a denizen, the dimensional pocket disappears (like a rinne, it now lacks a backing existance to keep it 'alive') and the items have to go somewhere. Since torches have such a tenuous connection to reality, they're probably the next best place for the items to go. that's of course assuming the items aren't on the denizen when they're killed, or that the items get destroyed during a fight (like what happened with the twins or Frigane)

Yeah, Mystes are Torch with a Hougu inside them, as explained in S1.
How a Hougu gets into it? Well, it's creator got killed, lost it or was stolen.
After some time alone, the Hougu probably warps into a Torch...could be something of function all Hougu have :uhoh:
When the Torch burns out, it moves to another one at random.
And about Tenmoku Ikkou, I don't recall seeing his flame...I better rewatch that episode first :heh:

Errr....that's just a characteristic he had, his name even means "Single Celestial Eye"
It has nothing to do with his remaining power of existance (I think).
Assuming that Tenmoku Ikkou's flashback was in an era where samurai were still around, then the only viable explanation to him surviving this long and having such a fearsome reputation (Demon Torch) is that he had Reiji Maigo inside him.
When Shana defeated him, Reiji Maigo moved into Yuuji and Shana got her sword.
Again, just a theory, don't know what the novel says about that :heh:
Okay, moving onto this week's episode...

Nietono no Shana was the Hougu, he'd just weild it. And I think his strength lied, as was said before, in the fact that the sword ignores any unrestricted spells. They try to defend with a spell, they get owned, they try to attack w/ a spell, it gets negated, and so on.

How did Tenmoku Ikko become a torch? Did he somehow kill himself? As we all know, a mystes is a torch with hougu. And, since nietono no shana is his hougu, in the anime episode 16 season 1, Tenmoku Ikko seemed to engage a ironsmith to make nietono no shana. But, I could be wrong. By right, just like other hougu, nietono no shana has to be made by Crimson denizen/lord, right? I am quite confused by this happening.

The smith IS tenmokku ikko... and he could've known some not-so-evil guze (like Rammie) to help him in his quest/venture. He forges the sword, the Guze imbues it with power and then at the request of the smith makes him a torch and gives him the sword back... this is all hypothetical, but it shows that it IS possible. Unless of course juts wanting to become a torch is enough, and he was one of those legendary blacksmiths of yore :P

Tenmoku Ikko IS the blacksmith cum warrior. It came into the blacksmith himself (unknown name) because of his desire to create a 'perfect blade', which was Nietono no Shana, and for it to be used properly. I don't know how a person turns into a Torch other than death through the devouring of their soul, but apparently the blacksmith voluntarily became a Torch of his own will.

Tenmoku Ikko was the swordsmith.
as for the other point, just read an article about Hougu and it makes a lot more sense now:
Hougu are created from the wishes of humans, and I suppose are usually made using a person's power of existence. This likely explains why Hougu are usually hiding in torches, since the initial creators probably become torches when they make the treasures (Though I'm still guessing denizen's hougu go back into torches if they're not on the denizen when they die).
In the swordsmith/Tenmoku Ikko's case, his wish was to create a weapon that defeats demons/crimson denizens/etc. Part of the wish, to create a weapon that could do such a thing, becomes nietono no shana. and then to fulfill the other part, the swordsmith transfers what remains of his existance into a suit of armor, and goes off to kill denizens/flame hazes/etc. with the hougu till he finds someone who will use it.
there are of course exceptions to this, and apparently examples where Crimson denizens help to make the hougu with humans, but as far as I can tell it still requires the human and their ridiculous wish (otherwise it'll be like one of frigane's dozens of totally useless hougu) to get it to work.

Oh...forgot about that. :heh:
That massive amounts of power of existence can grant a Tomogara's wishes, hence why they enter the human world.
This also explains why Reijo Maigo is so powerful (love between a human and a Tomogara :D)
Still, I wonder...where does Reiji Maigo get all that power of existence when it refills at midnight? :twitch:

When a Tomogara "crosses over" it still has its own power of existence, but it needs a human's power of existance to stay.
They can devour humans on their own, but it seems some like to create Rinne to get the job done :heh:
I'm still trying to get over the whole dream sequences, and how do they work. But, this is getting better because something unknown and new is approaching judging from Belpeol's devised look, and all the booze that Margery drown herself into.
The lunchbox was one of the cutest scenes in the Shana-verse.
Shana doesn't admit it, but she's in love with Yuuji. She felt jealous that Yuuji paid attention to Kazumi's bento, so she asked Chigusa to teach her how to cook. Although she nearly fried the kitchen, Shana treated her trademark melon-bread bento to Yuuji, and retaliates to Kazumi that he only needs her (Shana's) bento to stay in fitness.
Continuing from where I left off.....
At the aftermath of the fight against the Tomogara, Shana had an impression that Yuuji tends to like more Kazumi and felt down to the fact that she may be interfering with them. This is how I am interpreting when Shana look at Yuuji helping Kazumi while all three were inside the dream world.
And as I have posted for episode one, season two would now be exploring what is the Reiji Maigo.
Since after the fight in the Seirei-den, Yuuji's powers of existence received a boost.
Mare mentioned in shock that there was a keeper inside Yuuji which prevented her from touching the Reiji Maigo.
Did the keeper was already inside Yuuji from the start?
1. Or was it something that Hecate unconsciously put inside him at the Seirei-den when she was filling herself up with his power of existence?
2. Or else when Hecate was filling herself with Yuuji's power of existence it woke up the keeper within as the Reiji Maigo was continuously put in activation.

I wouldn't say she was feeling that she was interfering with them, but she can tell how close the two are, and it hurts her to see the person she loves get close to someone else. Thats one jab, and another jab would be the fact that Yuji didn't hear Shana's proclamation of love. That will leave girl down. Maybe she thinks that Yuuji prefers Kazumi, but when you're down, you usually dont make the brightest assumptions (Louise from ZnT is a Great example), but its only enhanced due to Yuuji being nice to everyone.

With yet another reason why the Reiji Maigo is pure hax, I have to wonder... The Reiji Maigo has been around for quite some time, as it's gathered quite a bit of notoriety. It continuously refills existence and devours the limbs of anyone who pokes it. So how did the Mystes before Yuji end up losing it? Is it a just a matter of Flame Hazes finding and impaling its hosts like De Arimasu tried to do?
The rest I wonder about--the origins and purpose of the Maigo, and how it was released into the wild--will no doubt be revealed in time...

It's the Mystes dying that's the problem. I mean, unless they get hit by a bus or something, they don't. Or burn out, etc.
If I recall correctly, it has been stated in the first season that the Mystes holding the Reiji Maigo can still die if the Mystes is drained completely of its PoE BEFORE the stroke of midnight (in Japan-time apparently :p), since the Reiji Maigo does not actively replenishes its Mystes' PoE until the allocated time.
So Yuji can still die, just like the previous Mystes before him.

True. But I think it was mentioned that Yuji now has as much PoE as the King of Guze. It would take a really really drawn out fight or a really major event (such as one that forces him to give up PoE, i.e. the classroom incident with Friagne) for him to lose that all in one day. Unless of course, Yuji is one of those people who just blow their power load right at the start of a fight :heh:

I know that, that's not what I meant... Who'd drain away the power of a Mystes without securing the Raging Mango first? Yuji just wound up at the wrong place/time in order to get noticed. And the RM can't wind up every time on a torch that's already about to disappear. I guess one can just assume that something else manages to physically kill the torch with every incarnation before someone notices the longevity (which I guess was only a hypothesis?), but...

Which Denizen will want a sociopath fruit anyway? :heh: I kid, I kid. Seriously speaking, there are several plausible theories on how the previous Mystes died.
A Flame Haze killed the Mystes because the Flame Haze was not strong enough to defeat the Denizen that was after the Mystes and in order to prevent the Denizen from securing the Reiji Maigo, the Flame chose to kill the Mystes instead.
.
A Denizen killed the Mystes thinking that it was only a Torch.
.
The Mystes got killed in a crossfire.
It is not that hard to believe really.
Cheers.
