I don't like Evanescance, but Amy Lee is somehow related to me, and I've actually spoken to her.
I love most of their songs. <3 Isn't one of their songs titled 'Take Me Away From Me'? If not then that's part of the song, but that was the first song by Evanescence I listened to.
Amy Lee's a bit plump, but she's allright. It's that she isn't goth enough. Maybe it's due to her Made in the USA image.
Eh I don't really care what the singers of music I listen to look like. If I like the song, then that's good enough for me.
I just discovered Haunted. <3 I love that song.

Hmm, lesse.. When I was 13 back then, Evanescence started with Fallen already..
I'll talk about it..
Fallen - Is about someone desperate to have someone she/he loves back, it's like a person's whole existence is only 'that' person that left him/her. Thus, since the person cannot have that person, he/she goes into a fantasy world where they are together..
"In my field of paper flowers, and candy clouds of lullaby.. I lie inside myself for hours, and watch my purple sky fly over me.."
Actually all their songs goes like this.. Living in this made up fantasy being better reality.. The person believes the devil temps her as well to leave her humanity and thus succumb into darkness..
"Fallen angels at my feet, whispering voices at my ear, death before my eyes.. Lying next to me I fear, she beckons me, shall I give in? For all my end shall I begin? Forsaking all I've fallen for, I rise to meet the end.."
Could also pertain to suicide is the only way to stop it.. :)
"Swallowed up by the sound of my screaming, cannot cease for the fear of silent nights.. Oh how I long for the deep sleep dreaming, the goodness of imaginary light"
Imaginary light - Light means something that can save you, imaginary is fantasy.. So living is the fantasy is the only life and hope left for the listener..
Their songs speak to people because there are times people just wants something that can understand them, rather than someone giving advice and so.. They just want to succumb and hug their situation, though I myself would not really advice this band for the depressed.. I was depressed back then also.. I say, those who can give advice are those who only understand..
Those who don't are innocently cruel.. They are hurting you with their good intentions.. I hate it when people do that, but alas.. It's not that we can blame them..
It's like the story of a wounded bird..
Someone knock the hell out of it and left it in the streets.. Then, another worried person came.. That person wanted to heal the bird, so brought it home and tried to cure it.. The bird, threatened, fought back because it thought the person was trying to hurt it. So, all that person did was make it a house, and give it food and water.. Later, when the bird was been sheltered and all, it allowed the person to heal it's wounds..
The meaning of the story? Most of the time, when we give advices to people, they don't feel comfortable about it and it puts them more down.. But just show them love and care, then when they are ready, they'll come to you..
Anyway, those who love their songs are people who could of course relate to it.. For me, genre of the music never matter.. I don't care if they're goth or not (though Goth means death, and they do deliver that feeling to the listener) as long as I can relate to it's meaning..
I have a blog, listing all the lyrics I loved from them: Clicky (http://cute_darkknight.blogs.friendster.com/just_blog/2007/03/i_cant_hold_on_.html)
Though, The Open Door is quite a different take from Fallen.
It even describes breaking free, and happiness.. Though, with the former lyricist out of the band and Amy on her own writing the lyrics for the new album, I prefer Fallen as it's more accurate in description and really holds out the words of the song..
If your a newbie to their song, you'd most likely to like 'My Tourniquet' and 'Whisper', but the longer you are in their songs, you'd appreciate 'Imaginary' most
i have one of their cds i can't remember the name actually i think it had bring me to life on there. it was a good cd, i like amy lee's voice it's pretty.
I like them alot back in 2003-2004, then they become mainstream and every single radio/MTV/TV has their tunes in it and slowly they lost their appeal to me :(
that makes sense, when bands go mainstream they change and people who liked them before probably don't like the change.
