Episode 15: Summary and Screencaps (http://animehistory.wordpress.com/2007/10/16/higurashi-no-naku-koro-ni-kai-episode-15-matsuribayashi-hen-2-ugomeki/)
as usual, kinda rough, and will be corrected with subs.
Screencaps are now available
A better version has already been put on nicovideo
There's a thread about episode 15 with many screenshots from it in Futaba (http://nov.2chan.net/24/res/1933695.htm) at the moment. This one (http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/7775/hanyuuohshitrf1.jpg) (spoiler) really surprised me.
The best part of this episode is after the credits
It gave me chills.
Another well done epsiode. Timing is spaced nicely, from the continuation of last week's Miyo's past to the declaration of war at the end.
Part A:
Went according story, and the fear factor is definitely there when they show the orphanage again. Nicely done segment. We get to see what happened to Tanashi Miyoko after she challenged god.
Part B:
Something was wrong with the drawings, as Hifumi (and sometimes Koizumi's represenatives) had a tiny head and a huge body. We also get to see the basis of Takano Miyo's resolves and her source of motivation.
Part C:
Miyo visits Hinamizawa, which takes place before Irie Insititue was established in Hinamizawa (if I remember correctly). Hanyuu, retaining her memory from Minagoroshi-hen's ending, finally steps up to the stage. If one thing that was lacking, I would say that Horie Yui's voice wasn't...angry or authroitive sounding enough. She fits the "au au" parts very well, but not the serious god parts...
Also...another time stop even has been taken out...will this mean it will also be taken out in the end also?

How long does it take for the web preview to be put up
I absolutely loved the part after the ED. The rest of the episode was pretty tedious. Badass Horie Yui voice = <3 though.

Opposed to completely skipped that many thought it would be.
バゲモノ was actually AFTER kakera musubi...
Takano said that when everyone from the club was at the shrine...Bakemono was the quote that triggers Hanyuu's memory of Takano being the culprit
Hanyuu: "AuAu! Rika! It's Miyo! It's Miyo! Remember?"
Rika: "???"

Didn't Takano call Hanyu a monster in the game which jogged her past memories AKA the pieces
Why would that happen now? We haven't yet been told that either Hanyuu or Rika lost their memories of the previous world yet (and if you noticed, Hanyuu was still transparent, suggesting she's not even corporeal.) I suspect the 'monster' line will be fitted in some time later, when we're over the puzzle pieces and Matsuribayashi proper has started, and jogging Hanyuu's past memories would make some degree of sense.

Loved Hanyuu's eyes. I think Horie Yui could do with a stronger voice though. She didn't sound angry enough when compared to Takano, but I still loved the coin sequence though.
As much as I feel sorry for Takano's past, the thought of her laugh still makes me want to burn her. Her seiyuu is awesome to bring such hatred out of me, good job!
Can't wait for the next episode, as usual. I preview would be nice too.

Some thoughts:
This episode was too sharp in contrast with last week in term of quality.
Much like Rias already pointed out, Hifumi and some men had very very unbalanced design, and they were often getting a HUGE body and/or a tiny head. It was beyond ridiculous sometimes... see by yourself :
http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff237/klashikari2/th_HigurashiKAIepi15033.jpg (http://i242.photobucket.com/albums/ff237/klashikari2/HigurashiKAIepi15033.jpg)
animation was also very choppy at times... when Miyoko runs like crazy, or in the "don't step on them!" scene.
Seriously, this episode was nearly as budget as episode 12.
The BGM were kinda lackluster, and didn't got enough emphasis of some dramatic twists and all. I wasn't expecting game BGM anyway, but in this episode, the tracks weren't really as good as previously.
OTOH, the pace was really nice, and of course, the last scene was really powerful.
Speaking of this scene, Even though hanyuu was definitely angry, she was not overboard or enraged. I believe Horie Yui did do a sufficient job in her "angry yet confident" hanyuu, instead of simply yelling and going panzer.
I think Hanyuu in this scene must NOT go completely angry, as it is absolutely not exactly how she is feeling. She has hostility, yes, but considering her usual temper and her objective, she isn't bloodthirsty towards Takano.
8/10 in my books. (yes, the quality deducted like 1.5 point)

Woah. That guy must've angered something the girls need: a headshrinker. (dodges Rena's billhook.)
Well.. people complained about the artwork having big heads...
After watching yet another chunk of 34's past, it was really nice to have that moment at the end. It made for a very nice segue into what will be Takano's bitter memories versus Hanyuu's bitter memories.
Best scene of the season, I'd say.

バラバラ殺人! Other than that one of the most pointless previews I've seen...
I'm pretty sure we've seen all of the other clips before somewhere.
Well, this episode was going to get an 8, but the last minutes were epic :heh:
So, finally...
They are going to reveal Hinamizawa's curse real murders :p (Also a HD Satoshi, lol)
Nothing out of the oridinary...they do have to explain about the truth behind all 5 year's incident, and of course the pieces that leads up to them.
Only one thing I thought they would skip was
"A New Wind", and the pieces leading up to that. Personally I don't find all those talks to be as important as revealing the truth behind alot of things. Most of them are just to reinforce the importance of Keiichi, but we already have seen that in Minagoroshi-hen.
Only thing that's important is probably the piece where Hanyuu and Rika were playing in the fields to get Ichiro's attention...
I wonder how they will be presented. If they just jump around then it could be confusing. I know a lot people that were confused with 14's disjointed events.

The declaration of challenge has finally been made. As the others mentioned, it will probably go down as one of the most memorible scenes of the series. Alas, as one who has played the original game, I was still a little disappointed that it wasn't powerful enough.
やっぱりBGMの差か? (differences of the BGM in game and anime?)
If the order of the scenes in the preview presents the order of them in the episode, then I think the "kakera"s will be shown in the correct sequence. So no worry about jumping around.

Kang Seung Jae brings up a good point. Remember Akasaka? Everytime Rika talks to him, it takes place several years before the main storyline. Assuming she has reset to that particular time more than once (yes, I know I shouldn't assume ), then the number of resets would be considerably lower than 100.
Anyways, back to the topic at hand. I am finally glad to be done with Takano's sob story. Yes, we get it. Life was rough. I suppose you should go murder some children rather than making the world a better place so no one would have to go what you went through. THAT'S the best plan alright <insert sarcasm here>. But, hey, who am I to judge? I have never emptied a gun barrel into a bound child's face before, it could be really fun.
Sterling01

Who ever said that Takano's sob story is over
MezzoDragon
2007-10-17, 20:58
Chibi Takano is cute, but her sob story makes me wanna gag. Instead of accepting her life, she blames God for everything.
These episodes weren't about making you feel sorry for her. That's pretty much impossible since we know how evil she is later on. They're about showing you how strong her will is, so you can better understand why she wins 99.9% of the time. The whole ordeal has been set in motion a long time ago and you know what they say, the longer something has been set in motion, the harder it is to stop.
This epsiode is just to show you Takano's motive:
It's not just to put her grandfather as a god by proving their theory, it's also to surpass god by taking down the local god, Oyashiro-sama.
It doesn't matter if her theory is correct or not, all it matters is that people believes in her theory.
-MotokoAoyama-
2007-10-17, 21:14
I think Takano is a bit mentally unstable later on anyway, so she basically mistook everything that Hifumi had told her. I'm sure he didn't mean killing off an entire village to get your name in history; only someone insane would think of that.
So yes, it doesn't matter whether the theory or her rationale is correct. As long as she has a strong belief in that nonsense, she'll bring it to life.
Her initial motive is to prove her grandfather's work. As to why she had to resort to such drastic measures such as eradicating the whole village, will be explained in Kakera Musubi.
Sterling01
2007-10-17, 21:34
There's one line in this episode thats a huge foreshadow to how unstable Takano is
Takano's inner monlogue about her strong will was way too forced, IMO, it was the scriptwriters' way of saying "dear viewers, if you cannot be bothered to think a bit and work out why Takano succeeds so often we will make her explain it herself for your sake".
And Takano in the end became a bit overexcited for my taste, I prefer her "ice cool villain" mode. She pwned Hanyuu anyway but that's nothing new.
I think Takano is a bit mentally unstable later on anyway, so she basically mistook everything that Hifumi had told her. I'm sure he didn't mean killing off an entire village to get your name in history; only someone insane would think of that.
Killing aside, no scientist who respects himself would want his theories to be accepted only after he has created an elaborate hoax in order to come up with "proof" which is exactly what Takano does.

Gave this episode an 8/10. It was supposedly a 7, but there's not enough words to explain how awesome that epilogue was. It was so good that the only way I can describe it is by having a new sig-avy combo.
Honestly, this episode was a conclusion of last week considering that 14 was rather a mess. It was nice to at least fill in those gaps that 14 left.

Think how Shion, Keiichi, and Rena were like when they heard her
But aren't characters in L4 or L5 only able to hear Hanyuu? Takano was able to see her as well. Furthermore, that scene took place years before the the Great Hinamizawa Disaster, so if Takano was in such an advanced state of the Hinamizawa syndrome you'd expect her to have clawed her throat out years ago. Besides, Hanyuu took a physical action by throwing the coin back at her, so my guess it that Hanyuu got so angry at Takano that she managed to make herself to appear before her.

When I think about it, her lines also makes sense if Miyo is taking the coin's rejection as a sign that "god" knows what she wants to do and is against her.

Alright the gauntlet has been thrown. This time even Hanyuu is going to go all out to take Takano down and end this nightmare once and for all. Considering her being a cautioning voice and not so energized such a statement to fight Takano this time and stand before a monster like that was an impressive thing for her.
True enough any pity for Takano's past gets evaporated when it hits the wall of distaste/hate/whatever you'd like to call it for Takano. We do get to understand her thinking and what her plans were but that's about all it is. Seems we'll keep getting more answers moving into the final round.

I'm just wondering, who here thinks Takano is going to get what she deserves by the end of the series and just to make clear I'm only talking to the people who haven't played the games. It wouldn't be fair for us to give our opinions.
omg, i was excited when the confrontation scene shows up, EMO hanyu? lol kidding.
I.. still can't answer whether takano is going to get what she deserves (actually what does she deserves at the first place?, she is just a victim of bad luck, and ended up with twisted mind because of series of incident in her past. Though that don't justify what she has done to keichi and the gank)
but why do i get the feeling that still if keichi and the gank really escape from the hands of fate.. they will have some sacrifice or something in the end (pray it doesn't happen)
Well, in most stories, mortals who try to mess with the divine have a gruesome end. Of course Takano's going to lose.
I didn't see why some of you refered to Takano as "34" before. Duh. :D
Now that Takano's plots and motivations are fully revealed, the biggest mystery would be....What the hell is Hanyu?? And why isn't Takano more suprised at Oyashiro-sama materializing and talking smack to her? And how will that affect things in this world? I'm afraid it's only going to encourage Takano more.

I see what you guys are saying, while watching the subs I wondered why I'm not feeling sorry for Takano. I'm a bit confused in the last scene though, so Hanyuu presently can reset the world only for about a few weeks before the Watanagashi festival due to the weakening of her powers right. The epilogue seems to show a few years back by looking at the old folks talking about the new clinic opening, yet Hanyuu remembers what happened in the last Hinamizawa. Whats up with that? or am I misinterpreting something?
Seeing Hanyuu's "epic" mode made me go to L5 lol.

I'm just wondering, who here thinks Takano is going to get what she deserves by the end of the series and just to make clear I'm only talking to the people who haven't played the games. It wouldn't be fair for us to give our opinions.
Depends on what you think she deserves. In a story where everyone has done wrong, even for just reasons or if what they did was obviously unintentional, and nearly everyone had to learn from their mistakes I can't see any type of gruesome or brutal payback for her. Obviously her sins are a bit more then everyone else's, but it wouldn't go with the overall theme of the story to have her meet some horrible end. Not to say her ending going to be a slap on the wrist, but I think they'll stop her without hurting her obviously. What's the point of stopping her and changing fate if they just end up as murderers? It wouldn't work.

Impossible. She cant get what she deserves. What she deserves cant be shown on television. Even in Higurashi.

Just wondering, why is everybody acting as if Takano has win every time when Shion alone stopped her strong will twice...
Also how do we know she succeeded in Onikakushi thereīs really no evidence either wya at least not in the anime
Takano won in those worlds because she still managed to make one of the kids L5

My thoughts exactly. What I think Takano deserves would never make it on air so I'll have to settle for something less :).
But really if things are to be stopped Takano has to be taken out. someone that dangerous and determined to cause all this devastation can't be allowed to move on and come back to bring mroe death or bring that to a different place. So many characters went the way they did due to direct influence from Takano who knew the kind of results her actions would likely create. So many had to suffer and die due to her will so she should reap what she's created.

Can't we just give her a time out?
Anyways good episode but after this are we moving on to the actual arc. I wanna see the result of everyones memories.

Onikakushi's game ending credits marks Hinamizawa as devastated by the gas leak disaster, with almost everyone dead as a result
Hanyuu can appear in a world earlier than Rika. After all at the start of Minagoroshi-hen Rika says that Hanyuu had been in that world before her arrival, so based on that we can conclude that Hanyuu appeared before Takano's arrival in Hinamizawa.
Just wondering, why is everybody acting as if Takano has win every time when Shion alone stopped her strong will twice...
Rika still ended up dead, so this isn't exactly an optimal solution.

No itīs not an optimal solution for Rika but Takano didnīt become a God, prove her grandpa theory or made the Takano name famous... so for Takano is as much of a failure as if Rika had gone on living happily ever after
Yeah, but it was still because of Takano's actions that Shion went kapoot, Takano was the trigger for Rule 1 after all. So for Hanyu et al. those worlds were Takano's victory for all they care :p

Ahh! What an excellent episode!
Somehow little Miyo's admiration for Hifumi struck my heart. It was so pure and sincere! The previous episode was really nasty for my tear ducts, but this one was even worse. The part where the ass hats stepped on Takano's thesis was to me perhaps the saddest part in the series so far. I have to admit I failed to hold back the weeping there. :uhoh:
Minus points for the head shrinkage on Hifumi, though. :heh:
Wow, Takano sure took the appearance of an actual god in stride. One wonders if she fights gods on a regular basis--I sure wouldn't put it past her! :heh:
Exactly my thoughts. "What's that!? Oh it's just one of those semi-transparent girls with freaky eyes. Nothing out of the ordinary."

You mean, it's even sadder than the fact that everything bad that happened in the series can be blamed on the fact that some dickhead bus driver got a heart attack and wrecked his bus with Miyo's parents in it?
Well, I guess it is a matter of personal tastes.

Episode 15: Analysis (http://animehistory.wordpress.com/2007/10/21/higurashi-no-naku-koro-ni-kai-episode-15-analysis-thoughts-and-random-comments/)
doubt it is very insightful this week (and rather late), but at least it is done ^^"

can anyone tell me does the story in the game have that much emphasis on that will fate thing. I mean the series imo has pretty much overkilled it to a point where i begin to hate it . in my opinion they should at least make it more subtle or something =/

Yes, I was. Lame as it sounds, since I've been bored by watching Hidebu vids lately.

I wonder what would happen if Takano met Beatrice and Bernkastel? Would she act the same as she did when she met Hanyu.
Thanks to this episode I realised that my university study has a meaning :P. I really hated Takano till this point despite of her past that was hard and she never gave up. But when I heard that Takano studied parasites (I think it was Biology or Biochemistry) I was happy that I am not only geek who is studying something like that :D. This was quite scary, especially when she was running away at the beginning and they caught her. I never really thought they would, back in ep 14.

I sympathize with the bus driver, nothing had gone well for him that week, and now this bullshit happens? Jeez.

If it was that easy for an 8-year-old girl to escape, Rika would have some other options.

To be fair to Rika...her pursuers had a BIT more training than Miyoko's.
Not to mention, better equiped.

And motivated, are they like girl pedo maniacs or something?? :heh:
What was that sudden hung up when Miyoko asks for help from Takano? Was he unwilling to save her at first, then decided to help her out because she's the daughter of a late friend of his?
Klashikari

the hung up was because Miyoko had used a... 10 yen coin. TEN yen...
that's like 0.08$ and this is the current change of today. considering how japan was much less prosperous around 80', you can tell it is even lower.
no wonder why the call is so short. actually, it is rather weird how miyoko is able to call Takano for such time with only 10 yens.

It's 1983 in the show, and Takano is probably over 30 considering her education credentials and years of work on the syndrome before Irie even shows up. The professor was working on the syndrome during World War II and through the American occupation which is not long over when Takano first arrives.
Klashikari
2007-10-24, 15:00
exactly, it is rather 50', and Miyo was certainly born after the war.
... like the numpad usual typo heh...
Oh, it's 10 yen? Haha, I missed that, I thought it's those 100 yen coins... that makes sense now, thanks for the clarification. :D

The one thing that confused me was how did Hifumi know where Takano was. Is it better detailed in the game or am I to believe that a wizard did it?
Klashikari
2007-10-28, 05:56
It is not really explained, but as you can see, Hifumi has some connections, and probably made a quick research. It shouldn't be that hard to trace Miyoko whereabouts if he has her full name + some detail like parents dead after a bus accident.

She hasn't displayed any of the symptons, so I wouldn't say so. I don't think being crazy counts as L5.
Hanyuu rocks!!!!!!!!!

No. L5's are on the verge of death. If they don't kill themselves then the fever kills them. (Without treatment of course). Takano shows no sign of experiencing hallucinations, and her primary mental problem is megalomania. She may be infected and a bit paranoid, but the infection if any is probably low level.

It's a good development to what caused Takano to do what she is doing now, but that still doesn't cut it to go to that extreme length to just prove to him. Bleh, I'm mixed now, used to like Takano when they didn't started to feed out that Takano was now the villain of all this now, either way, good episode.
