Holy Moley, Resident Evil anime?! Wow!

I should explain for the sake of anyone who isn't aware. Biohazard is the original Japanese title for Resident Evil.

Holy cow, Resident Evil turned in to an anime ? 0_O Now that is something i would have never imagined. This makes me a happy panda, being a fan of the games. Should make for a nice piece of horror ... wonder what rating it will get :) A full CG production, eh ... not really a fan of those, but we shall see. I liked Appleseed :)

Bonus points if i get to hear "STAAAAARS", which is very unlikely though :heh:

My first reaction is yippee fangasm but once it died down I worry . Well why I worry is because of DMC . We all had high hopes on DMC I was hoping its transition from Game -----> Anime would be smooth and flawless like Gungrave , but alas it wasn’t

So though I am excited I keep my fingers crossed http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7673/4a46b55d020017eohb9.gif

At last this will give justice to the live action. No offense to the LA...but i really want something from CAPCOM. When ever they make anime's it's DAMN good. Though SF generations only the intro and Ryu Akuma fight was the best scenes. :P

Sounds like we should consider this most analogous to the Final Fantasy VII movie -- a full CG feature co-produced by the game developer and Sony. The games have always had quite-nice-looking CG and a presentation that has a broad appeal, so it's not really surprising that Sony's trying to see if lightning will strike twice. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of it...

Funny as I was precisely watching the first movie yesterday and was surprised to find myself enjoying it in spite of its totally gratuitous blasting of scores of zombies and red-skinned mutants monsters. Good B-movies are so rare, nowadays...

Oh sure. If we're going to count 1992's Alone in the Dark we need to count 1989's Sweet Home (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweet_Home_(video_game)). Honestly those two certainly influenced Resident Evil, but they were just footnotes of inspiration.

I was just about to say that, but just because I love Lovecraftian Horror.

I'm not a big fan of the movies (don't like horror movies, ironically I love horror anime/manga and games) so I hope the movie will be good... at least better than the DMC anime.

:D

I was about to include Sweet Home in my post but finally I didn't. RE's core gameplay has more to do with AitD than with Capcom's older RPG.

I stand by "Alone in the Dark is the true progenitor of the action-horror gaming genre", and not only because of a matter of national pride :D

Well if either Chris, Jill or both serve as the protagonist(s) then I'll watch it no matter what. Maybe Leon too since he is my favorite RE character despite the plotholes the story will have. Plus, there's Ada to be had :love::love:
If we get another non-canonical character like Alice (who was completely hax btw), then I'll have to say the chances of me finishing it are 50/50.
Then again we know nothing yet. The story could cover all the games (crossing my fingers on this one) or none of them :upset:

Devil May Cry was not as action packed in the game, not until the 2 last episodes and the 1st one. Hope R.E. will give us a better view on how CAPCOM does it.
But as always CAPCOM never fails to suprise us. But in sequels...it's soo...soo...

Hope the whole protagonist team is there. Chris, Leon, Jill, Ada, Rebeca and Sheryl. If ever it's set on R.E.4 or 5. storyline.

Anyway, a RE Anime does sound great with all the zombies in it 'n stuff like that. I hope that it won't turn out like Devil May Cry or the RE movie, where the main hero just goes and pwns everyone/thing/body. It's called SURVIVAL horror for a reason, you survive the horrors, instead of being a horror yourself.
And I hope that they throw in a couple of Tyrants for fun or an angry mob of those Nemesis bastards. That would be cool.
And one more thing, the Anime must have a lot of shooting, gore, dying, screaming, zombies, zombies and zombies and zombies and zombies ...

I didn't see any mention of an American release date (on the website), but if the film does well enough in Japan, I wouldn't be suprised if the film could have some sort of Winter release date in America (some time in January or Feburary 2009) or more likely late spring to early summer 2009.

Based on the websites and trailers, the story shows Bioterrorists attack North America in 2005 by releasing T-Virus in an airport (No details yet). A part of the terminal is isolated with zombies attacking a SWAT unit. Leon and Claire (Yes! They're back!) gets some backup this time with a small special forces unit in to contain the virus and kill the zombies.

And yeah... there's a cameo of a Birkin-like monster near the end of the movie.

I have been a Resident Evil fan since 96 with RE1. Defiantly looking forward to this. Another thing I am glad about is Capcom's decision to make the original in English like the games. While I like most anime to be in Japanese, something that is based in the US with American characters should be in English. Now we get corny, cheesy lines, instead of horribly dubbed corny cheesy lines. I am looking forward to the cheese that this will bring like every Resident Evil game has before.

Awesome Awesome Awesome!! Didn't live up to the expectation, but still good

The good: the action and movement animations is superb.

Bad: Face animation sucks royal ass, no expression. Leon looks like a stone throughout the whole movie. Good thing about her, at the end huge tasty boobs!!

T-Virus will never end will it? The Incineration thing didn't work much, at the end the new team after the T-Virus still found curtis's claw or something. And that will surely produce T-Virus again. The only "Bloody awesome" moment for me in this movie was when Leon said:" If you don't save someone, you will never save anyone" And shot Curtis in the head.

2nd Movie! 2nd Movie! And next time don't forget to make the face more alive :bow::bow:

7/10

It was okay. Basically it was fan service for the Claire and Leon fans. Nothing really tied in from Resident Evil 4 up. I was mad Wesker wasn't mentioned.

One thing I did notice where by 2005, there have been many infections worldwide. I think it said like one million dead total from virus related infections.

Overall 7/10. Now I am waiting for Resident Evil 5.

I completely agree! At first I thought, "that can't be her, could it?" And upon recognizing her, I was like, "WOW..."

Yeah, the voice synchonization turned out badly, but otherwise it was definitely great for RE fans. I've personally never played RE, but have kept up with the franchise ever since its genesis. Here's to hoping that they keep the franchise up!

I watched this not expecting much out of it. Fortunately, it turned out to be better than I thought it would. At the very least, I found it more enjoyable than the RE movies. Obviously, there were some aspects of the film that could definitely be improved upon, but I wish more companies would do things like this -- in other words, if someone gets the bright idea to make a movie based off a video game franchise, I'd prefer it if they kept it far away from the live action genre.

Overall, I too give it a 7/10. Now I need to find the song that plays during the end credits.

Overall, I too give it a 7/10. Now I need to find the song that plays during the end credits.

I don't know, I haven't seen the Live-Action movies (besides 20 minutes of the second one) but I was really disappointed with this. Compared to a lot of the games, the gore was relatively minor and unimpressive, and the plot seemed pretty predictable and formulaic to me.

Also, they made such a big deal about being set in the airport, I was really surprised that that part ended so quickly, and we moved on to exposition and the totally unrealistic company building. Resident Evil can carry a single setting very well, and I was disappointed that the airport setting wasn't fleshed out more than it was. The company building...why would anyone ever design a building like that?

Claire was given the short end of the stick in this one. She was hardly ever armed, and was seemingly just there for the "OMGITSCLAIRE" factor. This especially shone through in the company scene when she decided that she should for some reason, go up to the top of the building that was obviously going to collapse later on, just so she could walk around an empty control room. I mean, seriously, nothing even jumped out at her when she got there. Also, Angela's whiny and I expected her to die with her partner in the first scene. Horrible character.

I spent much of this movie screaming at the screen things to the effect of "Look! It's got a giant blinking eyeball on its shoulder! That's what you should be shooting at! Haven't any of you ever played a video game before?!" To me, that's what this movie felt like; that someone was given the gist of Resident Evil and it's characters and monsters, and decided to make a movie out of recycled concepts. There wasn't ANYTHING remotely new or compelling about it, and most people who have seen movies before could essentially guess what was going to happen in every single scene.

Quite honestly, I'd say the opposite and give it a 3 out of 10. That said, the ending theme is called "Guilty Fever" by someone named Anna Tsuchiya. Enjoy.
