I'm looking for a good anime that have nice ad precise drawings. I dislike anime that has characters with fat faces that run around looking like children. The only I want in the genre department is romance. It can have fighting, comedy, etc. as long as it has romance.

Some examples of anime that I consider nicely drawn are: Kanon, Sola, Ef a Tale of Memories, Air, Full Metal Panic, Hunbun no Ysuki go Noboru Sora, Shuffle, etc.

Thanks.

Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu is nice and short, like Hantsuki, with beautiful artwork. Ef also has very nice artwork (it's currently airing).

Honey and Clover. Plenty of romance, and is wonderfully drawn.

Dennou Coil has everything you could want in the art department, but it's not strong on romance. The characters are about 10-11 so adult love is a non-starter, though there are a few "puppy love" relationships.

The other two shows I'd recommend for artwork are Mononoke and Oh! Edo Rocket; the latter has some romance, but you might not like the character models. Romance is not a strong point in Mononoke despite the main character's obvious appeals.

Noein has some romantic qualities, and it certainly qualifies as artistic. It's licensed, though, unlike the others I've cited.

Indeed, you fail for not going further than one episode.

On my part, though I might stretch the romance part on this but Ergo Proxy (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=3302) looks pretty nice.

i watched the entire serie of gankutsuou and it s an insult to Le Comte de Monte-Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
story was butchered character were horrible plot was poorly written.
Why the fuck did they thought that Edmond Dantes and Fernand Morcerf were friend? they hated eachother from the start and Fernand framed him to get his job and to get into his bride's pants but in the anime they decide to make it like they were childhood friend and both atone for their sins. And i m not mentionning the fact that in the book the Comte ends up fullfiling his vengeance.
Show is horrible end of the story, if you have read the book and still claim that gankustuou is good i can do nothing for you.

the same applies to romeo and juliet, the completely shred the storyline and the characters to make a horrible show out of a Shakespear masterpiece.

anime would do a lot better to stay the fuck away from any litterature or movie (7 samurai anyone?)

i couldn't care less about how closely a show follows a book, play or movie. i'd rather just look at it as its own work.

saying that Gankutsuou 'sucks donkeyballs' is practically the same as saying 'watch as I sacrifice my credibility'. the anime is increadible - it creates suspense on an unreal level, features, as you were at last dilligent enough to mention, the most amazing visual aspects... probably ever, and is engaging with a cast of memorable and awesome characters.

And anyway, I haven't seen the anime, but the play Rome and juliet is pretty damn lame, so I don't know about your taste in general >_>

Or you would do a lot better staying away from anime based on literature and let those of us who like it to enjoy it :)

For better and or for worse, Japanese animation industry would not have been up to it's height right now if it wasn't for masterpiece literature.

The World Masterpiece Theater actually ushered Miyazaki and Takahata into the lime light with their earlier production at Nippon Animation, later creating Future Boy Conan which is another adaptation of a literature masterpiece.
other notable animation based on literature includes;
Mumin, Stories of Andersen, Little Viking Vicke, Biene Maya, Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige, Mrs. Pepperpot and the Bible.

this thread is not the really place to discuss about gankutsuou.
i ll explain why i feel gankutsuou is horrible in the gankutsuou thead if you want to keep discussing it.
i know i wont convince those of you who think that this show is great but i just advice you read the book and you will see how much of a big difference it makes.
reguarding litterature, i m aware that it s impossible to fully adapt a book on the screen, but there is a difference between adapting a book and butchering it. anime nowourdays are butchering them in order to make them as easy as possible for the viewers to understand, anime are now bound to marcheting needs that totally defile the story.
i think it s not that bad that anime try to adapt books of movie if it can give people interrest in reading the real book, but when people just stop at the watered down version and concider it the end of all, that s where is disagree.

Oh calm down it's certainly not a problem isolated to anime since alot of Hollywood movies not to mention various TV programs all over the world do their fair share in butchering the original content as well. In fact anime sometime even butcher the original manga to fit their needs. (ex. Victorian Romance Emma)
One thing I like to point out is that the door swings both ways and alot of fansubs/licensed dubbing also do their fair share through mis-interpretation of contents through poor translation or sometime even on purpose due to difficulty in conveying the meaning through difference in culture.

Seconding Clannad, and Haruhi

anything by Shinkai Makoto qualifies. He's gotta be one of the best in the business right now when it comes to artwork and animation. His works also have great stories to go along with the superb animation.

I'd also like to add Koi Kaze, since you like romance. Although its not everyone's cup of tea (deals with an incestuous relationship), it's very well animated and is also an excellent story if you have an open mind.
