Just watched it on niconico....

Akasaka is sooooooooooooooooo cool @___________@

The banter between Mion and Shion was cute, so was Satoko's pouting at the end. Lots of action and plot is moving swiftly to the conclusion! I loved the extra time spent on Shion. Not only does Takano like sleeping in the nude, but also likes bondage. Then again, I guess you need to go that far if it's "Car-crush" Tomitake.

Episode 22: Bullet summary and screencaps (http://animehistory.wordpress.com/2007/12/04/higurashi-no-naku-koro-ni-kai-episode-22-matsuribatashi-hen-9-koubou/)

This episode was very moving, seriously. The pace and tension were very well crafted, and the action was quite big.
Akasaka demonstrated what his fists can do, and seriously, those who read peice 51 and/or played Daybreak can expect how BATSHIT and fearsome he can be.
If only the tracks were the one from the game maa...

Seriously, a fantastic episode.

Satoshi's alive!!!
FINALLY! (Now i've watched it) The way they went around reveling Satoshi's being alive was nicely done, i expected it would have something to do with Shion. It really was a touching scene.

The OHMYGOD award for this episode goes to Akasaka.

Not bad, but once again the art level has gone down. Most obvious with Kasai and Akasaka's fight scene. The action was alright when Akasaka was fighting the generic Yamainu, but the "small head wide shoulder" is back. Timing is alright, but of course, some famous quotes and scenes were cut.

First I wasn't too happy when Locomotive Tomitake only got so little screen time...since he is protrayed as a strong instructor from the SDF that also kicked some ass in Minagoroshi/Matsuribayashi-hen.

But of course, the biggest rant is...給料いくらだ being cut. Akasaka showing up and kicking ass is probably one of the highest point of Matsuribayashi-hen. Let's start from the beginning when Akasaka shows up. He says one of his famous line, "I've finally made it...Rika-chan, I've came to save you." I would have perfered if there was a bigger pause between the lines, just like in the game. I guess that line isn't as significant as the game since the anime cut out the last piece of Kakera-musubi, but Akasaka showing up is much more significant then the anime has been showing. Akasaka finally showed up to save Rika, not because she had to wait for so long in Matsuribayashi-hen. It was becuase she has waited for all these worlds, who knows how many years worth, for Akasaka to save her. On a side note, cutting out "I'm Okonogi from Yaminu !!!!!!" during the punch was a shame :heh:

2nd rant about the scene is obviously the BGM. Anyone played the original game would perfer that over the anime one.

Finally, Akasaka vs Okonogi is way too short, since they cut out the 給料いくらだ part. Okonogi just ran away after Akasaka punched the van...

After this episode, I am starting to think that Air Throw will be cut out as well...:heh:

Edit 2: Further work has been done on this sequence, and added Shion + Irie scene.

Touching, amazing... epic... This is all the stuff I hoped would come eventually and now it's here. Got kind of teary at certain parts just with all the hope and kicking ass. It just makes so much sense why Higurashi has had me so pulled in... this is what I've been waiting for.

Makes me really excited to finally play the sound novels since the anime just about done... but of course I didn't bring the disks with me to college. orz

What... are you saying that it's unbelievable when

A bunch of soldiers that just took down two heavily armed people through a chokepoint in a matter of minutes can't also take down a single unarmed guy?

It is a mystery.

In this episode, something finally goes right for Shion! Hooray!

I don't think I've laughed harder at the second season than right there. Especially the part where Okonagi punched Tomitake and Tomitake just smiled. It was like something out of DBZ.

WOW! That's a 10 right there!

First of all - SATOSHI'S ALIVE! *dances*

Now that that's out of the way, I didn't think anything other than watching KOOL go Incredible Hulk could have made that fight any better - well, OK, maybe better animation, longer fight, and using more powerful BGM like the remix of You that Rias posted woulda helped, but still, watching Akasaka beat ass followed by gun-toting Shion and Kasai made my freaking day!

In fact, I need to watch the damn fight scene again! :-D

On a side note, looks like Rena's out of the picture for pairing with K1 as far as anime's concerned. Oh well, she could always take out Shion with the billhook and claim Satoshi for herself...Of course Tomi may soon be single...

Anime sequence + original music
Just having the music makes the scene feel completely different...

After reading your post, I thought it was just another game player ranting about how his game wasn't 100% ported to another media word for word... which normally just comes across as some whining. However, after watching the nicovideo ensemble I can't believe there is much of a quality difference between the OST's. What surprises me more is how Kawai Kenji couldn't get the feeling right and made such a crude equivalent...

Anyway, from the point of view of someone who has only played Onikakushi-hen (aka anime-only watched for all that matters :p) the episode was quite good, and set ups the terrain for the final episodes. This second to last climax (only guessing) was pretty good, and I'm looking forward for whatever the story has in store for us.

How's she out of pairing?

What Shion said was purely more about her than Keiichi. :p

It just basically means she would come back alive because Mion is still there. :) Sisterly love for the win! :heh:

I do realize that the whole Akasaka scene was longer than it needs in some parts for the game, but how long does it take for the anime to do these lines?

Pfft. It has been discussed over and over again, the TV series of Higurashi would've been better if they used the original tracks in the game.

Here's one showing a nice summary of Matsuribayashi using the original tracks:

Is it just me or did anyone else find the scene where Rika slips down the ladder rather funny? It was amusing to see Rika just ranting to herself about her body and how she wished she had bigger boobs. xD In the midst of such a serious situation, too!

Dude, Tomitake needs to be shown more respect in the anime. The Tomitake Locomotive isn't anything to laugh at...but NOOOO.

Just having the music makes the scene feel completely different...

I actually prefer the anime music. The game music is too noticable to be suitable for a background music in anime. It also didn't have a "Higurashi" feel to it when such light hearted melody was played.

Well, the game music must indeed be noticeable because it was a sound novel. But then if you listen to the drama CD tracks, they just blended in perfectly.

And this would probably be the reason why I can't wait for the remaining drama cd's to be released...

No, no, not at all. "Futaenokiwami AHHH!" is a huge NicoNico fad at the moment. It's basically the soramimi of what Sannosuke says in the English version of Rurouni Kenshin. The guy took the same scene with different dubs (Japanese, English, Portuguese, French) and people basically commented what they heard.

And thus, "Futaenokiwami AHHH!!" was created. Now everytime there's a scene involving a dramatic running punch (or maybe something completely different), no matter what video it is, expect to see "FUTAENOKIWAMI AHHH!" speed across the screen in NicoNico.

Great episode. 9/10. More after I take my final. :'(

OK, here's more:
Akasaka is awesome. There's nothing more to it.
Shion is more vital to this whole thing than I thought. It's strange to see her like that when I still have nightmares about Meakashi-hen

Go Akasaka! Damn that was one crazy episode. Really thought Rika would be taken away and we'd have to do a big rescue mission to get her out of Takano's clutches. But then the saviour of the day arrived and totally kicked ass :).

Quite the surprise to hear that Satoshi is still hanging around. After all it seemed with everything coming together that he probably was dead. Will be interesting to see what kind of state he is in. After all if he was just fine they would have let him go before now. Good to know he is alive and hope things work out for him and Shion.

But of course we still have a tough fight ahead. Tomitake is captured again and you have to worry about his survival. Managed to repel the enemy this time. But Takano knows that Rika is alive now and should be an interesting battle ahead.

There are two endings to Higurashi.

This one which is the good end and The PS2 one which is the true end

Even though the PS2's ending is called the true end both endings are considered canon

You could classify the club as his harem. Though that does leave out Oryou Sonozaki, who should probably be included after what happened is episode 10 of Kai. She's Higurashi's tsundere character. :)

That seems extremely unlikely; after all doing so wouldn't fit into the series' continuity. I hope that we'll see Saikoroshi-hen animated though, since it does follow Matsuribayashi-hen. There's been a rumor that an extra episode of Higurashi will be broadcast after episode 24; with a little luck that's what they're planning on producing.

A lot has been said about Akasaka's GAR moment in this episode, so I won't be talking about that anymore. :)

Anyway, it's been a long time since I dished out a 10/10 rating for a HiguKai episode (last time it was Episode 13), and this episode deserves such a rating. Not only because of what was mentioned earlier, but because there was tension all around the episode, only this time, nobody died. I really felt that Casey and friends was really placed in really deep crap.

And oh, Satoshi's alive. What a surprise.

Best line in the episode goes to Rika-chama, saying that she'll live on and grow taller and have big breasts. I guess she really doesn't want to lose to Mion as suggested by that DVD extra. :heh:

Oh, and what kind of guns are thos that Shion and Kasai have? They didn't look to be machine guns, they just seemed to be manual rifles... Now, the bigger question: Who would win in a fight of Shion and Akasaka?
Even further, when Akasaka was attacking the Yaimanu, why didn't they just shoot him?

Shion used a Kalashnikov (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AK-47), while Kasai was carrying a Shotgun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotgun).

first question: hard, depend of the situation

second question: as seen in the previous arc, and what we can determne in the previous episodes, the Yamainu prime objective is to protect and ensure the safety and secrecy of the institute. As result, they are forced to be discrete (so they couldn't act when the police marked teppei).
In such case, it wouldn't be that surprising if they allocated all the firearms to the assaulting team, while the back didn't have much weaponry. This might be a mistake of their part, but considering their dominating situation, they wouldn't really expect such reinforcement like Akasaka.

Kristen
2007-12-08, 21:32
Oh, that was a shotgun? Hm, interesting enough. I guess that means Kasai doesn't know how to use a Kalashnikov.
The thing I am curious on is why they didn't use a gun on Akasaka. It just seems like after he had done a bit of beat-em up action, they'd label him as a threat to the secrecy and kill him...

Oh, that was a shotgun? Hm, interesting enough. I guess that means Kasai doesn't know how to use a Kalashnikov.
Considering his expertise and Higurashi Daybreak, Kasai can actually wields a Kalashnikov as well. It looks like the shotgun is rather his weapon of choice, and it is quite logical considering they were in a choke point.
Shion would probably have some problem with the Shotgun, as the recoil might be a big burden on her. Supporting Kasai with the Kalashnikov is also another positive point (Speed and Range). Basically, they combined the weapons, so they are more efficient.
The thing I am curious on is why they didn't use a gun on Akasaka. It just seems like after he had done a bit of beat-em up action, they'd label him as a threat to the secrecy and kill him...First, Akasaka knocked down his 2 pursuers, giving his "whereabouts" unknown to the yamainu.

Second, they completely ignore who is Akasaka, they could only see a strange man running like crazy from Rika's house. Considering he was alone, they can't exactly know his skills and such.

Finally, not only the Yamainu doesn't seem to have large ressource of firearm, but they are outside, in brightday. Much like the bomb issue, the use of firearms is too risky, as the gunfire might draw the attention of the police.
Another problem would be the fact that in the midst of the chaos, they can actually shoot Rika in the same process. A stray bullet can be reality and such risk for their operation is basically out of question.

Even if they were/are armed, they can't use any firearms against Akasaka considering the situation.

The hostage scene was brilliant. Tense, dramatic, one of the best scenes in the series so far. Really, just outstanding.

And then followed by Akasaka kicking ass and redefining the word "GAR". Wow. Brilliant ep.

Edit: Edit 2: Further work has been done on this sequence, and added Shion + Irie scene.

This episode was on par with ep. 5 and 13 in terms of awesomeness. The feeling and tension was done perfectly without being over-the-top. I really felt a rush of desperation when the others were all trapped inside the hole. And Takano's smug smirk and evil laughter is making me hate her more and more.

Well, if you think about it (and you understood her threat to the Yamainu during the well scene), the Yamainu are dependent on the survival of Rika. In other words, she threatened to kill herself if they hurt her friends.

Even further, when Akasaka was attacking the Yaimanu, why didn't they just shoot him?

Probably was too violent for television to do a two-way gun battle, and maybe they had to do some kind of quick change. Yet if I were to guess on how it would have really been done:

-Akasaka takes down the guy that is about to stick Rika with the needle.
-Yaimanu begin to draw their guns toward Akasaka.
-A busted up Mion burst out of the shelter, firing her assault rifle at the Yaimanu, while drawing other Yaimanu attention.
-Lead Yaimanu and Akasaka go at it.
-Surviving Yaimanu run away.
-Akasaka wipes the blood off of Rika that had been sprayed all over her during Mion's gun battle.
-Mion laughs, but then trips over a shell casing, falling face first into some random bloody dead Yaimanu.
-Everybody then seen laughing.
-Mion shoots at the dead guy that she fell upon, and complains about how much her dress had cost from the Von Maur outlet.

i had never doubts he may be dead ... am i the only one?.. it wasn't a really surprise for me when irie mentioned that XD. in the first season i thought he will return after all events, being the cherry with cream of a happy end. and since kai i guessed, irie would care about him. but anyways, i'm really happy for shion now ^^...

Considering his expertise and Higurashi Daybreak, Kasai can actually wields a Kalashnikov as well. It looks like the shotgun is rather his weapon of choice, and it is quite logical considering they were in a choke point.

When I was watching a HidebuKai gameplay vid, I thought Kasai's "machine gun" was an M1 Thompson SMG. I never thought it would actually be an AK.

And anyone notice this: When we first see Mion holding the AK, it looks like an AK-74 (slightly curved magazine gives it away). But after the fight, when Kasai asks Akasaka whether or not he can handle an automatic weapon, we see it as an AK-47 (distinctive curved magazine is due to the dimensions of the cartridge)? If anyone has played Matsuribayashi-hen, is the model consistent throughout the scene?

Image one. We see AK-74

Image two. Now I'm starting to get confused. The magazine looks slightly curved (74 mag), but it's locked into the mag well at an ungodly angle.

As it was said by others, there was a risk that the police might get called in by gunshot sounds. Besides, in the episode preview we see Takano gathering all the Yamainu, so it isn't illogical for them to withdraw in order to regroup and try different tactics after encountering stronger opposition than what they had anticipated.

Kenta: nicovideos require signing up. Don't ask me how, though. And I remember that you need to be a Japanese resident.

Technically, the place that Akasaka punched on the car is one of the harder places to make a dent as he didn't just punch the windshield. And I'm surprised as to how jacked he is. I've seen people that can lift 300 pounds bend over from a well placed punch in the chest. Then again, those people wouldn' find punching a windshield easy...

ohh I have aquestion about that tough, is piece #51 is in the future where both wife + Rika died, then how come he is that strong during the time of the Watanagashi.
does that mean that his line "I HAD 5 YEARS" mean he trained that long in the Matsu-hen world? and if so, how could he remember he NEEDED to train like that, no one else remembered anything until they something triggered the memory IIRC.

Proto

Reread the last line that Rika tells Akasaka in that piece. From that there stems two explanations. The triggers itself was Akasaka being able to save his wife thanks to Rika's words, or Akasaka becoming unconciously aware that something was needed similar to the other characters. (like Shion protecting Satoko from every word since Tsumihoroboshi hen, etc.)

And indeed, piece 51 is from a word were both Rika and his wife died.

The triggers itself was Akasaka being able to save his wife thanks to Rika's words, or Akasaka becoming unconciously aware that something was needed similar to the other characters. (like Shion protecting Satoko from every word since Tsumihoroboshi hen, etc.)

And indeed, piece 51 is from a word were both Rika and his wife died.

right, saving Rika may very well be the trigger, and sorry "is" was a typo for "if" it was pretty well explained that they died in that world.

I've always wondered if the reboort is an actual reboot tough, or if keeps existing as an alternate reality.

Is there any chance we can get this on Youtube? I don't understand enough moon to watch stuff on nicovideo.

I uploaded it to YouTube myself, but I only uploaded the fight scene, not the Irie and Shion scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-83f6IlEqA (Might take a little while to process first)

This episode had so many great moments that my brain short-circuited.
