BONES doing Soul Eater? AWESOME.

Granted, the style of the manga and its ridiculous characters/settings may not be for everyone, but the charm of the manga's flat-color black-white tones is something that is hard to evoke if it uses typical shonen-budget animation.

Not to mention the director and art director of Ouran, good stuff.

When I first read vol 1 of the manga. I wasn't that impressed with the series, but as I read on I got hooked. : o

I didn't quite like it at first either, what's with the weird settings and all that, but it started its feel on the whole out-worldly feel along with new characters made it more interesting.

I think I started enjoying it once Stein appeared. And Medusa. :3

Andrew C made a thread for this 2 weeks back on AOD and since he has never lead me wrong so far this year I checked out the manga. Lets just say I'm rapt that Bones are doing it since they will be able to do this series justice in terms of animation.

Soul Eater is a very fast paced manga and has a stylish charm about it, Andrew C also mentioned it was going to run for 50 odd episodes so I expect something similar to what Bones did with FMA.

I also really hope Bones nails the casting choice for BlackStar since in the right hands he will come across awesome, miscast role and he will just be flat out annoying. And oh yeah Blair is hot!

Destinyblade

BONES adapting a Shounen Gangan manga that will last for at least 50 episodes... it sounds like FMA all over again, in a sense.

Not that it's the same show as FMA, of course. I've checked the summary and a couple of the chapters, and it sounds interesting. I'll probably take a look at it when it comes out in Spring.

On a side note, I was curious if this might get the same timeslot and broadcaster as FMA did (for example, this show's first season in Spring, followed by Gundam 00 Part 2 in Fall, and then this show's last half in Spring '09). According to MOON PHASE, however, Soul Eater will be airing on TV Tokyo on Mondays at 6:00p.m.

I think unofficially Code Geass 2 is going to be airing in between Gundam 00 seasons, though with 3 months to go things can change. What show is Soul Eater replacing btw?

I think unofficially Code Geass 2 is going to be airing in between Gundam 00 seasons, though with 3 months to go things can change. What show is Soul Eater replacing btw?

Currently, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles airs on that slot. So it'll be replaced by Soul Eater in the Spring.

When I first saw Soul Eater, I thought that the show might land on doroku for the Spring and air a second season in Spring of '09; I was curious about this because of the whole Square Enix/Shounen Gangan and BONES connection. However, this anime is more of the type that TV Tokyo airs, and besides, doroku shows tend to have some sort of military/anti-war theme to them (courtesy of the Executive Producer for that slot). Soul Eater doesn't have any of that, though, so I guess it makes sense for it to be aired on TV Tokyo.

As for the 6pm slot on MBS/TBS, it's going to be either Code Geass 2, Macross Frontier (which I don't know if this has any chance whatsoever of being licensed :heh:), or some unannounced show that MBS plans to air. We'll probably know by January, since it seems that timeslots for shows are announced around three months before it airs.

Yeah could be Macross F, is there any other prime time slot it could take? Looks way too high budget to be stuck in a late night slot.

Yeah could be Macross F, is there any other prime time slot it could take? Looks way too high budget to be stuck in a late night slot.

As far as I know, MBS and TBS only have one primetime slot for anime, and that's the doroku slot. All their other anime air on late night, usually at the end of the week (like Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). If Macross F isn't going to be on late night, MBS/TBS would have to create a new timeslot for the series.

The 1982 Macross aired on the stations on Sundays at 14:00 (2p.m), and Macross 7 aired on Sundays at 11:00a.m. Interestingly enough, the Macross F special that's set to air in late December are all airing on late night slots (for MBS, it's December 28th at 25:25; for TBS, it's December 23rd at 26:50). So I don't know if the TV Series will get late night or maybe a mid-afternoon slot like its previous TV series. I guess Macross F could take over Shana II on the MBS 25:25 Thursday slot in Spring, but isn't Macross a bit too high profile of a franchise to be receiving a late night slot? I don't know much about the Macross franchise, so I can't be sure.

Anyways, speaking of timeslots (and to keep this post from being completely off-topic :heh:), I'm kinda glad that Soul Eater is getting a primetime slot, though that may be just because TV Tokyo is willing to put more anime on their network than the other major broadcasters in Japan. Unfortunately, a lot of TV Tokyo anime tend to be overlooked by anime fans outside of Japan. For example, a lot of low profile Sunrise shows have aired on TV Tokyo before, such as Keroro Gunso, Yakitate Japan, Gintama, Kekkaishi, just to name a few. A part of me hopes that this show doesn't end up the same way and get overlooked by a lot of fans just because it looks like typical shounen (especially with the whole Shinigami stuff, since Shinigami is being used a lot in numerous shounen anime), especially with the Code Geass and Haruhi sequels on the way. Then again, this is being done by BONES, not Sunrise, so maybe that'll give this show more recognition, lol.

EDIT: Before anyone catches me on a mistake, Kekkaishi aired on NTV, not TV Tokyo. Still, though, it was a pretty low profile Sunrise show outside of Japan.

The character designs are pretty nice.

I know it's the FMA designer, but they sort of remind me of Kekkaishi anime designs as well.

Nightengale

It's been more than 10 years since the last TV series, and the latest production was an OVA too, so it's harder to gauge the market value. Especially if it's going to be for the doroku slot, that has been in a decline of sorts due to ratings failure of post-GSD shows.

And those Sunrise shows named... well, it's a little sad, yeah, since Sunrise is a good studio at shonen manga adaptions. Though to be fair as well, other than Kekkaishi, Sunrise never really put in much money and production values into their shonen adaptions, and Kekkaishi had the support of it being in a great timeslot once before ratings dropped. (( next to Conan ))

Soul Eater imo suffers much of what the other low-profile-outside-Japan Sunrise shows did. A somewhat uninspiring start-off to the series, (( since Soul Eater started as 3 different one-shots before it became a regular series, and were the weakest links of the manga )) along with a somewhat strange settings and all, easily coming across as being weird and in Black Star's word, uncool.

I mean, this guy is the strongest character in-series. -_-

Btw, this was the casting for the Soul Eater Drama CD.

Maka: Takeuchi Junko
Soul Eater: Hoshi Souichiro
Black Star: Yumiko Kobayashi
Tsubaki: Mamiko Noto
Death the Kid: Takako Honda
Liz: Yuko Kaida
Patty: Miyuki Sawashiro
Shinigami-sama/Lord Death: Ryusuke Oobayashi
Death Scythe: Hiroaki Hirata
Franken Stein: Mitsuru Miyamoto
Sid: Susumu Akagi

Chances are there will be changes of the casting towards animation just like how Ouran ousted Hoshi, but it gives an idea of how the character sounds.

Just as an addenum, Inu Yasha was a Sunrise Shonen Adaption that did very well.

To stay on topic, Soul Eater, I dont know much about it. To be frank it sounds generic but one piece is generic as hell and I love it so we shall see how it turns out. Hopefully we will get some a couple of good sakuga episodes here, and I like Itou's work (I can tell a draawing is by him usually by the way he draws the mouths:p). As for Igurashi, his direction on Ouran was great, lotza nice visual florushes. Hopefully he'll keep it up and attract good animators to work on it.

Westlo

I'll be happy with that lineup from the drama cd if it was the final one but yeah I'm expecting some changes.

I guess Macross F could take over Shana II on the MBS 25:25 Thursday slot in Spring, but isn't Macross a bit too high profile of a franchise to be receiving a late night slot? I don't know much about the Macross franchise, so I can't be sure.

Hmm I always thought that the 4th Maria-sama series was going to get the "Pizza Hut" slot. I know it hasn't been announced yet but I'm expecting something soon especially since that Pizza Hut deal for it.

Especially if it's going to be for the doroku slot, that has been in a decline of sorts due to ratings failure of post-GSD shows.

Wasn't Dokoku going into decline slightly once NTV started airing Major against GSD? IIRC Major was the cause of most of the ratings loss for GSD and in addition to Major shows which probably shouldn't have aired in the slot really diminished Dokoru.

Read the manga, meh. Probably be more fun in well animated form. That seiyuu cast for the cd sounds awesome though. If hoshi does it, he should use his "kamina" voice.

as fer doroku, I have a feeling that it'll be macross F. It's a big enough franchise.

It is true ever scince Major started airing on Kyoiku, the youths arent watching Doroku in high numbers, I thought Blood+ would be marketable enough but without a preexisting media tie in i guess its rough going in the anime world.

Westlo
2007-12-14, 05:06
Hoshi's Soul Eater will probably sound similar to a (slightly younger) Kazuma I'm guessing, would have to be the worst voice actor director in history to make Hoshi use his Kira voice lol.

As for Blood+ I've liked what I've seen (35 eps) but it definitely took too long to get the "hook" episode in. I know the first SEED was also off to a sluggish start but it had the whole "It's Gundam!" thing behind it.

The only thing tempering any enthusiasm I could have for Soul Eater, is the main writer...who doesn't really have an encouraging resume to say the least. Hopefully the show will be able to match FMA in terms of animation at least.

I'll bet you that Macross F will air on the thursday late night timeslot that Code Geass season 1 and Darker than Black aired in. Shakugan no Shana 2 is airing there atm and (Im guessing its ~26 eps since I dont watch it) will be done when Spring season begins and Macross F begins.

Oh dear, i did mean "Kazuma" hehee.

As for Yamatoya, meh. When adapting shonen usually you dont have licence to get creative (unless you try filler) youre just there to translate the comic into animated form. Resume reads mailny from generic shonen which this is. What will make or break it for me is weither the direction and visuals can really make it entertaining.

Chiaki Omigawa as Maka Alban
Kouki Uchiyama as Soul Eater
Mamoru Miyano as Death the Kid
Yumiko Kobayashi as Black Star
Akeno Watanabe as Liz Thompson
Kaori Nazuka as Tsubaki Nakatsukasa
Rikiya Koyama as Shinigami-sama

Hrm, designs for the anime are pretty close but there's something that isn't quite right but I can't put my finger on it. Anyway, I hope the action sequences are animated well, there are some particularly sweet scenes from the manga like Liz (<3 <3 <3 <3 Liz) and Patty's first action sequence, that is cool in the manga and could be even better if they animated it well.

Saw this on ANN:

The official Japanese website of the Soul Eater anime series has announced that each episode will air in two different versions: the regular Monday 6:00 p.m. version and a late-night "Soul Eater Late Show" version with added special footage. The dual broadcast of this supernatural action series is being billed as the "world's first evening and late-night resonance broadcast."

Wonder what they will add on the late night. More violence? More fanservice? Both?

After the reading the first volume, it definitely feels like it was tailor made for Bones to animate in terms of style, even with all the fanservice (something the majority of Bones anime don't usually have)

And the Tim Burton-esque atmosphere and background art is awesome.

Soul Eater is all about the style. Honestly, remove the style from it, and it loses almost all its appeal.

Frankly speaking, Soul Eater is something that's probably more suitable for to be made by a western animation company/Disney/whatever, for it seems to be very exaggerating in their motions, which is something western animation tend to do well from the traditional Disney films like feel like Bollywood every time they go for a musical animation orgy, or the traditional basic Tom and Jerry. Japanese animation don't do that much.

That's number of episode titles (or time slots) available at the moment, not total number of episodes for the entire run of the show. People confuse episode titles and number of episodes from ANN. Don't worry there is certainly more than 13.

I dunno... that's a pretty big error to let slip through. You can still see the covers on the site, it jumps from 41 to 43. The numbers would have been corrected by now if that was the case.

4 days is a heck of a lot better than waiting months for the dvd version, it's not like Bones had to set up two screenings in the first place.

Probably shouldn't say more until the first episode is actually released, but it seems like they're already changing some things up (dropping hints?).

This line wasn't in the manga:

あいつの魂はもう鬼神の卵だ。人間じゃない。

Edit:

Actually, they're setting up the villain right from the start.

The trailer looks really good. Apart from its unique style, I really disliked the manga (it took me a month to get through three volumes). However, it looks like with the right production staff and animation company, they can definitely translate and improve on the original a lot. Iwasaki Taku's music sounds awesome! ;) However, Maka's voice sounds weird and Soul Eater's was waaay deeper than I expected.

solomon
2008-03-18, 18:03
To follow up on flou's comments;

Happy with the seiyuus I heard, Makka sounds cute (geneually cute at that, which for me, Is rare).

Damn, soul's voice is deep! I was expecting something more traditional like Souichiro Hoshi's at the lowest or Romi Park's boyish inflections actually.

The art direction goes good with the character design, although really niether really impress or excite me. (more the manga's fault then anything else)

TakuIwa's Music sounds really cool

TakuIgura is seems like a good visual director based of off the better Ouran episodes, plus it looks like some of Bones's good movers are on the show.

The whole resonance gimmick of simoultaneous teatime and late niight showings is very interesting although what will probably end up happening is more violence and looks at Blair's hotness i suppose.

Overall; it looks hopelessly generic but the acousitcs sound better then average and Bones is animating it, so at least it'll look and sound pretty (and really thats all that counts:p)

It'll be nice to veg out to every middle of the week. I wonder how long it'll run though.

Hell yes that was fantastic, amazing animation as expected of bones and the voice acting sounds great, whilst soul sounds older than i expected he still sounds badass, and the music sounds great too as expected of Taku Iwa although if watch the the youtube video at about two minuites into it the music that sounds like a warped flute sounds very similar to a peice he did in gurren lagann last year.

I'm thinking after the current story arc (which is being curently translated) is where the anime will probably split off from the manga altohugh i expect some things in the current arc will be changed like the greed arc was changed a large amount in FMA. I have a bit of a feeling that medusa may not come back after being 'killed' although she may come back with a smaller role than she currently has in the manga and i don't think the current villan, the spider witch (i don't know her name) may not appear at all but rather the anime is going to focus more on Asura and possibly introduce some new villans major or minor

I'm current (waiting for 47). I agree with Terrus. It's either going to end or diverge with the current arc. Plus, if they go any further than that, then there's a whole slew of new characters that will have to be introduced.

It's more likely to diverge rather than stop though cause we still need a proper resolution for something that happens really early in the manga.

Great choice of voice cast too! ^_^ Soul's voice was too deep though. As expected from Bones, the animation and music are excellent, and also very fitting for the series. Shows are normally scheduled one cour at a time, i.e. 13 weeks. This has nothing to do with their full length, though it's constantly confused for it. Hence why ANN has 13 episode titles listed right now.

It seems to be planned for four cours, so 52 episodes is a good guess.

Westlo

It could be anything in the 49 to 52 range, a forced recap episode could push it up from it's planned 50 episodes to 51 etc.

The trailer's surprisingly awesome, very good animation, as expected from BONES. I'm surprised at Soul's voice, it's deep, and I like it. Agree with the previous poster that Maka's voice would take a while to get used to. Black Star is what I expected, a Naruto style voice. While Kidd is the emo badass that we've always knew, maybe his VA would retain Kidd's cool headedness from Light (Death Note) and Setsuna (Gundam 00), while his wimpy and wussy attitude from Aoba (Tokimeki) seeing they all shared the same VA.

Wow, they already introduced the main villain right from the start / trailer?

Those guys, are in the Manga. The red masked guy is Lupin the Thief who was killed by Kidd in the first chapter, the other person just a symbolic generic witch that was in Maka's chapter and isn't an actual character.

Yeah and at least one or two of the episodes will probably be recap episodes as well. But i'm not bothered by a couple of filler episodes, but if the series were to end with the current arc that is being scanlated it would kinda of annoy me unless they altered it quite a bit. Still if anything it looks like their going to be able to fit a chapter into an episode as the first three episodes will be the charcater intro chapters, and as the 'medusa' arc finishes at chapter 22 episode 22 will probably be where the anime breaks off from the manga.

Westlo
2008-03-22, 08:58
I'm betting the Medusa arc will end around the 25/26 episode point since it will be the end of that cour and will also allow them to start the next arc with a new intro. One TV CM (http://www.dailymotion.com/manuloz/video/7992697). Thanks to Manuloz on the Manganimation forums as usual.

What I'm mostly looking forward to is seeing what kind of stylish animation BONES can come up with for the opening, though.

A few seconds is all I need, I just want to see what sound he's going with for the intro, I can't imagine a SEED/Destiny type intro for this series and if he was going to have a rockier edge he should've stayed in that abingdon boys school group which did the first OPS for Darker Than Black and D.Gray Man.

I believe that the edited version of Soul Eater is replacing some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, I think I asked this question on the first few pages of the thread... or maybe it was in AnimeOnDVDs thread for this.. whatever.

EDIT

Thanks for the link Katapan and thanks Manuloz if you're reading this.

Interesting CM with a few scenes not shown in the trailer I believe, the song sounds like a typical T.M Revolution song of the last few years. It could work, need to see the intro to really judge it though.

I can understand how you feel prof. but except for a few lone gems (like FMA) all shonen is the same old junk. Just because it's a "quality" type show with real substance doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable though. Bones more recent works, Skullman and DtB I found a bit lacking in substance then I'd hoped, but they were stylish and well excecuted and sometimes that's all you can hope for.

I just look at it as an equivalant to a saturday morning action cartoon (although American tv broadcasting S&P would flip at the content:p.)

Plus as far as im concerned most shonen is all about grandstanding and fights, with BONES, theres a much higher chance of fights actually being nicely and interestingly animated.

I won't disagree that it has generic shounen vibes, and having read the manga you're pretty much right. However, the manga isn't enjoyable for it's plot, but rather it's style and creative backgrounds and designs, and as the anime seems like it captures that very well, I'm looking forward to it. Plus, solid voice cast, music and a good staff, as well as a finite 50 episode run, i'd hardly say that it will end up as something as dreadful as D. Grey Man.

Aside from Kid's introduction chapter and the Kid/Black Star chapter, all of the fights have been tied into the plot. This isn't a MotW shonen, and there are plenty of chapters to keep it from becoming that.

MrProphet

Butcher huh?

Aside from the silly robo-Archer, I'd say BONES did a splendid job of making Fullmetal Alchemist something of their own and not just an adaptation of Arakawa.

I know a lot of people dislike the second part of the series, but I actually admired the adult feel of the series. I know that the manga used campiness to even out other terrible things, but I felt like FMA the anime was an altogether more wholesome, more purposeful creation.

I guess we'll see where Soul Eater goes. At least I can make an excuse that I'm watching it for Takehito Koyasu, if you know what I mean. 8)

I agree with MrProf. on FMA note (Aikawa really kicked ass as writer there)

Actually Zoe did point out a good point, the plot progression in the manga seems like something that would happen about two arcs later in a another shonen. They cut right to the chase in establishing the main focus.

So is that it? All the movers and shakers were busy with stranger? I had thought so, the last show that really got me visually by the studio was probably Eureka Seven or Kurau.

Ouran had some good work here and there as well too.

Yea I hope we at least get a show as good looking as FMA was, Itou is a nice character adaptor he really makes the characters his own in a way. I'm beggining to enjoy Norifumi Nakamura's interpretation of the world's set design. It makes it look like a children's story book.
That's wierd, I remember seeing his name in the credits for the final Skull Man ep, (and after checking it now, the sakuga wiki site doesn't list him there). Guess I was wrong. So I guess all he did last year was Ayakashi OVA 5 (which was awesome)

Anyways yeah, Stranger is supposed to be an animation wet dream, so it's no surprise all the big guns were working on it. Nakamura did a shit load of work on it as well.

Now I just hope that Bones stays TRULY FAITHFUL to the manga and won't butcher started from half the series like it did with FMA...

I hate to break it to you, but from what I have seen and read, BONES does have a tendency to break away from the manga of their adaptations and add in their own material into a work. How much it deviates might depend on the director and/or script writer, but I think every BONES work that was originally from a manga has deviated at some point (Angelic Layer, FMA, etc.).

I expect they'll do the same with Soul Eater, seeing as how this is supposed to only go 50 some odd episodes like FMA and the manga isn't finished. Still, I would think they'd remain somewhat faithful to the manga, at least in the first half.

I remember reading an interview with BONES Producer Masahiko Minami, when he was asked about the episode length of anime. In that part, he mentioned that with more episodes, they can add in side stories and character development. This is something I have seen particularly in BONES works. FMA had quite a few episodes that were almost completely filler, with maybe one or two character or plot tie-ins. Then there's their original works, which usually have boatloads of side stories, or basically episodic type stuff.

That's not to say that's a bad thing, but I'm just pointing out that it's typical of BONES and I expect it to appear occassionally in this show as well.

Shounen adventure has now become this terrible generic substract of boys' anime where everything adheres to the standards I'm already sick of. Just look to D.grey-man for proof.

Yeah, it's a tad unfortunate that there aren't more well developed shounen type anime like Rurouni Kenshin and Fullmetal Alchemist. Those two are probably my most favorite anime series because they combine the shounen action and pacing with well developed characters and above average (or excellent) storylines.

Still, shounen anime tend to be the better sellers in the anime industry in North America, so even if most of them are too generic, they're still a necessity.

I think BONES will do justice on Soul Eater :) Based on the previous shows it has worked on, most really turned out so awesome :) Ouran and FMA are some of their legends xD

Very likely they'll change some of the storyline and add a few fillers and make a different ending. I totally don't mind, since they turn out okay. :)

Except for the ending I guess. I didn't appreciate the endings they made for FMA, Ouran, and DtB >_> I love those anime, but their endings, to me, made me: o_O duh . . .

I think with FMA, was that when they finally decided to put it on anime, the manga was only a mere 2 years old. When they reached the first half and started the second of the tv series they're already catching up to the manga, and they: (i) just don't have enough materials to continue originating from the manga; so to compensate this they (ii) throwing up fillers; and finally (iii) add some stories that deviated from the original story from the manga.

With Soul Eater ("SE"), seeing that SE had already begun from 2003 till know, we have now around 11 Volumes when they decided to put it into a tv series. Just say that 1 volume would cover around 3 episodes, and that'll take 3 weeks. It means 33 weeks for 11 volumes (not consider the holidays). In 33 weeks the author could probably produce around 2 volumes or so. Then we could probably see the story stray off from the original around ep 41.

The materials are there, so I do think that BONES would remain spmewhat faithfull with SE than it did with FMA.

Note: I don't know if I'm quite right with the series calculation, if anyone had a better forecast, please add.

We're at chapter 47 right now. If we assume a 1:1 ratio and that the current arc will wrap up nicely, that's more than enough to fill 50ish episodes in time.

KiNA
2008-03-23, 06:31
1:1 is a very poor ratio ._.

Current Naruto anime now running at 1:1, Believe me, it sucks so hard I even go on hiatus again, and still didnt plan to continue yet -.-

Westlo
2008-03-23, 06:59
Yes but a Naruto chapter is 20 pages in length while a Soul Eater chapter is between 40-50 pages long. The first 3 episodes which are confirmed to follow the 3 one shot chapters are 40-48 pages long. The first chapter which is 66 pages long and looks like being episode 4.

So most chapters will end up being an entire episode except for action heavy ones unless they pad out the fight scenes. For instance the current scanlated arc Fight to the Death Part 1-7 I very much doubt will take up 7 episodes, more like 4.

Expect a few filler episodes at first like FMA eps 3+4 as well as some padding at times but I expect chapter 22 will be episode 24, 25 or 26 in the anime. Anyway my point is that a 1:1 ratio is not very poor for this manga since 47 chapters of Soul Eater are the equivalent of 94 of most SJ manga and that's not counting the 3 one shot stories which will be the first 3 episodes.

Speaking of Bones, I want them to do Superior as their next manga adaption, looks like their next "big" project is Zamudo though, looking forward to seeing that revealed sometime this year hopefully.

There was only what? only 7 or 8 volumes of FMA when Fullmetal Alchemist anime started but with Soul Eater there's currently 11 volumes (11th volume soon to be out) so there shouldn't be the same amount of filler episodes that Fullmetal Alchemist had. By the time the first season ends vol 12 should be out. So they should have enough material for the entire 2nd season not to be mostly filler material like FMA was probably the last 13 episodes will be original and have it's own ending.

I would suppose most of their money came from the DVD sales of shows, but FMA was a big cashcow so, they probably are at least fairly stable as a company. I just hope they dont get to be another cartoon factory.

It'll be nice to make some more money for the studio, they could actually make ad dollars on the teatime broadcast and the light night airing is double pimpage for hardcore fans to buy dvds, seems like a win to me.

Duckroll posted some interesting information on the structure of Bones in the AnimeOnDVD thread for Bonen no Xamdou after he had to correct my limited knowledge on them.

Internally BONES has divided themselves into Studios A to C. It's unclear exactly how this division works, since main project staff move around quite a bit between the internal studios.

In 2007, A Studio worked on the Ayakashi Ayashi OVAs, B Studio worked on Skullman (and possibly Sword of the Stranger, but I can't confirm that), and C Studio worked on Darker than BLACK.

Currently C Studio is working on Soul Eater, and it is very likely that B Studio is working on Xamdou. What's A Studio working on then? Possibly a Eureka Seven movie, since I've heard credible rumors about that for months now. We'll just have to see how it pans out.

Darker Than Black was nicely animated and I'm sure that Soul Eater has a bigger budget considering Bones wants this to be a hit.

Well Soul Eater could be Bones next Cashcow, but how popular is Soul Eater? I know that it must of gained some popularity after FMA was aired because more people probably picked up Comic Gangan and in the process got interested in Soul Eater. Bones proabably picked up SE to appeal to the FMA/SE fanbase as well, after all Bones have made a lot of money out of their past two 50ep Series so I doubt this will be any diffrent, it's just that I don't think this may neccasarly have the same size audience as FMA and E7, but then again I suppose people said the same thing about FMA when it was first announced it would be made into an anime.

Also does anyone know how Sword of the Stranger did on the Japanese box office and if it's out on DVD how is it fairing in Sales?

Here's Random Curiosity Spring preview for 2008

http://randomc.animeblogger.net/2008/03/31/spring-2008-preview/

I started visiting this site last spring season when they were blogging GL and DTB, hopefully they'll blog Soul Eater as well but just because they have said that the chance they will blog it is good doesn't mean that they will blog the series. What seems to happen is that they blog the first episode and if they like it they usually stick with it, usually 4 to 6 shows are blogged each season (sometimes less) however i'm hoping that they will and it seems likely as one of the bloggers covered Ouran and seeing as Soul Eater has almost the same crew and two of it's seiyus, chances seem pretty high.

Also it looks as if they will only blog the cut version of the show but according to the blog it says that the uncut version will be on three days later meaning thursday but i had orginally thought it was Friday.

Well Soul Eater had to be popular to a certain extent to be made into an anime (usually a manga has to have at least 5 or more volumes worth of material before it is adapted) but then again I could be wrong :X. Gonzo adapted Pumpkin scissors when it was about 5 volumes into the series despite being published in a not-quite popular magazine (from looking at the magazine pumpkin scissors is published in it seems it's mostly made of low quality art manga, not that this makes it bad at all) However it was because of this that PS had so much filler and why it seems that most manga usually get adapted at 8 to 9 volumes like FMA and Soul Eater and Bamboo Blade as well (that's publsihed in gangan as well isn't it?). I expect most likely that we'll probably see a Fairy tail manga sometime in the future as well, also wasn't there a rumor that 666 satan was going to be made into an anime or did that come from another rumor about Bones adapting another Gangan manga and it turned out to be SE?

But countdowns are fun. Too bad we can't have a countdown clock. I'll be watching both versions.

Too bad we can't have a countdown clock.

Set your computer to Japan time and go to the official site (http://www.souleater.tv/top.html).

The uncut version airs at 2:15 am on Friday.
Btw, if you want to know when a certain show airs in Japan, you should check this calendar: http://www.mahou.org/Showtime
I find it useful. :)

Mmmm I'm missing your usual catch phrase here.
Let me see, was something like "It's gonna be the coolest series of the year"?
:P

one hour to go...

there is going to be a cut and an uncut version for every eps.
i hope the subs will be be for the uncut version and that people will be able to show some patience.

Probably gonna see subs for both really, if anything the uncut will fall behind. I don't really see a lot of material in the manga that needs to be shown uncut aside from a few chapters, nothing as blatant as Blairs tits like the first episode. But I guess it depends on which groups are doing it.

i dont really see what needs to be edited either but i hope we ll get the friday nights eps and not the monday ones :p.

i hope this serie will avoid the fanboyism that CG is getting atm :/

Its probably censored the blood more then fanservice tits IMO .. There arent much Blair scene to warrant 2 simultaneous(almost) episode per week IMO :D

1st episode was great

OP and ED = awesome
Animation and fights = awesome

It was already pretty violent and the fanservice was definitely there. Makes me wonder just how much the Uncut airing will add.

Wow... the animation quality is amaging. But Maka's VA is poor.

...Well, I just watched the episode. Atleast TV-Tokyo didn't crop the series like I was expecting them to. Whenever they played the adds during Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2003, the ads were cropped for some reason. Anyways, there was a good amount of blood during the opening scene, so something tells me the censorship was around Blair, although they did show her chest, but without any nipples. So I wonder what the extra footage will be about then... Especially given the content that they showed at 6:00pm... Also, it's rather a big change since the last two toyotic series that played during this slot. (TMNT 2003 Japanese Dub and Bakegyamon)

I really liked the Opening song, but the ending, was just mindless screaming... The animation, though I loved. The opening had some really top notch animation, without resorting to much static backgrounds, it was mainly full blown animation non-stop. One of the things that surprised me, was Bones kept consistant on the animation quality through the entire episode. There was alot of motion, and despite this, there was minimal short cuts used.

As for the episodes? I enjoyed it. A good mixture of comedy, action, and some rather unusual "style" to the series itself. I'm certainly going to keep on watching this.

Great animation, great directing. The OP and ED both totally deliver on creative levels as I would expect from BONES. The only thing is, yeah, Maka's seiyuu blows. She has a few more eps before she has to face off with Maaya's character, so if she doesn't improve by then the fanbase will probably destroy any future she has in the industry. :(
