Oye, Pellissier is absent today? I was wondering why this thread is up so late.
Anyways, I... er, we... hope that this episode will satisfy all of our needs.

doesn't look like it actually. (unless you mean Milly from code geass suddenly deciding to take over one of the side characters...)
this week is more school material bookended by Pheles buildup. (though like last week, it's novel material, not filler.) on the bright side (for those of you who despise Shana's school life ;_; ) the way things are going, certainly looks like Pheles will appear in no more than a week or two.
anyway,
-Sato and Tanaka are back to status quo with Margery. still, suppose it was good to have a reason why they're always at arms length with each other. Though I suspect Margery will be showing up the school festival despite what she said.
-Ike's life is still terrible, :heh: episode 7 feels a bit more in context now.
-Konoe continues to be a pile of confusion. she actually seemed to be truly sad about not being able to hang out with everyone (likely because the bracelet has some sort of cost or limit to how long it can operate.) And the speech she started making seemed oddly out of character too. (I know it was performing lines, but it was still really damn weird >_>) it has to be Hecate, but the particulars continue to throw me off.
-anyway, Shana and Yuji putting up the pictures of town is a nice visual summation of what's happened so far, and I liked the short conversation Alastor and Shana had. school material was certainly some of the better this season.
-story of Pheles and Johann is an interesting one really, and perhaps foreshadows Shana and Yuji's eventual fates. Clearly Pheles and Wilhelmina have some kind of past too, so that should add some welcome character work to the fighting. but nobody understands the Silver thing sadly, so I guess that's what comes after the Pheles arc.
again, a fight most certainly seems to be coming next week or the week after, hopefully things will continue to speed up from here on out.
very interesting episode. nice script and timing, really grateful for well balance on service, school comedy and novels content. the drawing style is not so bad either.
what wilhelmina said in this episode is very concise but the most important point for the later development of this story, and i think the information is quite enough for understand the following episode even the fans that not ever read the original novels before.
still do not understand why wilhelmina have to go to paris (and forgot her rucksack in airport? www) and make khamsin has a shot on last episode. although there will be a great chance for S2 have an original ending and he will show up at the last few episode again...
how come the girls are that horrible in yuji's class: fujita (the monitress of yuji's class) got mad on seishusai even do not let ike has a break (poor ike!) and kimiko, the one who 'sexual harass' her female classmate...
fumina's mysteries is about to clear up...the voice that she speak like romeo...so cool. hecate seems coming back at the time.
shana do know wilhelmina know something (possibility) on yuji's silver flame color... and there will be a lot of tough works for wilhelmina later. give her a strong push.
... I'm wondering how the majority of people feel about Shana and Yoshida being such good friends now. It's such a big change from the first season where they'd rarely interact aside from arguing.
Anyways, this episode was a whole lot better than last week, even if the first half of it seemed a bit wasted.
The episode itself maybe boring, but man those previews at the end of each episode with Yuuji announcing is awesome. I little bit weird I guess, but they do some good previews with Yuuji's voice.

Great...finally some set up for next ep...
This one was the usual bland, everyday slice of life with noone really taking the spot light. But the end is promising - hopefully :uhoh:

Rather plain and bland, but since good times are to come, it's okay.
The episode also had some average comedy, like Ike continuing to suffer, or the breast-groping that happens in lots of anime, when girls bathe together.
Since Yukari's gone, Harumi x Hayato? <--not bad, though how long Ike would hold up......
Next time - Festival begins; lots of costumes; and lots of wind (:heh:)
Random note: Margery... has been immensely useless this season so far... All she ever does is get drunk... After course, it seems to change next week but still... It's been 11 episodes. She was also drinking while explaining her past...
We don't need to use "spoiler" anymore?

LOL, if it really does go HarumixIke, I seriously feel sorry for the guy. Jeez, the guy's life already sucks if later volumes of the novel are any indication (after confession...:twitch:)
Pretty cliche episode for the first half, but I thought the posting pictures scene was well done. Hopefully Shana will pull herself together a little more, as far as taking action.
Second half...still boring, but definitely foreshadows good things :D
The lack of spoiler tags in this thread is rather puzzling.

I'm starting to lose interest....
Maybe I should just go and read the books.
i thought the ending of this episode was pretty good, a gust of wind brings the name of the beloved johan.
and finally we are going to get some actions (maybe not next week but pretty soon), ah i can't wait.

Poor Ike's been reduced to become the show's comic relief. lol
First half was rather bland, the main focus was Shana coming to terms with her feelings for Yuji (even though she already confessed to him in S1, that was conveniently forgotten). It was only after Wilhelmina returned that the story picked up.
Once again, poor Kazumi is subject to more sexual harassment from her horny classmate, and not even Shana is safe from her clutches.
Trivia: Pheles's voice heard at the end sounded familiar, upon seeing the credits, turns out it's Inoue Marina.
Pheles would be a departure from the shota (Erio in Nanoha StrikerS) and hyperactive schoolgirl (Kana in Minami-ke) for Inoue, one line is too short to judge her, so we'll see how she fares.

You're forgetting the slightly less than naked sniper (Yoko in Gurren Lagann) and the love-sick video rental store operator (Wataru in Hayate no Gotoku). :p
Though, I'm quite confident that Marina can do Pheles justice.

I suspect they will insert a long retrogression into the past somewhere between 16~20 episode or so... Otherwise I cannot see how they can stretch the rest of the story into about 14 episodes...

Seishuu Festival (<--Since the subbers kept it like this...) Begins
On the first day of the Seishuu Festival, the costume parade begins to march around the shopping district.
1 Year 2 Class's costumes are Romeo and Juliet, by Yuuji and Kazumi, and Shana as Dorothy and Fumina as the magician from "The Wizard of Oz".
Along the course are many sightseers, including Yuuji's parents. Also, a little far away from there, was Wilhelmina and Margery, who was forcibly dragged along by Wilhelmina.
The flame's silver color that appeared in Yuuji's Unrestricted Method. Pheles who aims for the Midnight Lost Child.
In order to ask for assistance from Margery about the problems that are occurring to Yuuji's body, Wilhelmina prepares to tell her about the silver.
But, without anyone realizing it, but definitely so, the winds of ill omens begin to blow......
Will next episode be plain, or will she appear next episode? :uhoh:
That is the question...

On a side note, I am glad that Shana got the part for Dorothy. I can't imagine her being able to swing her sword in Kazumi's Juliet dress.

Yup, and besides I think she looks cuter iun the dorothy costume, thans he would have in the Juliet dress. plus there's the Romeo, and Juliet foreshadowing thingy thae people were talking about.
Wizard of Oz...
Romeo and Juliet...
Unless there is some sort of symbolism to these costumes from those plays...
Any news on the 2nd opening and the music for it?
Last season had Kawada Mami doing the first half of it for the opening before Kotoko took over. Are they going to do the same for this season?

This will probably depend on the length of the Pheles arc. If there is a 2nd opening, most likely Kawada Mami will be doing it again, since I can't imagine KOTOKO doing a SnS song while Hayate no Gotoku is still moving strong.

I was kind of hoping that they will animate what happened to Pheles and Johan until Reiji Maigo was transferrred to Yuji, instead of letting just Wilhelmina doing the explaining. But anyway, the explantion is good.
Honestly, before seeing this episode, I thought that no one will beat Ike in terms of diligence since he is one of smartest. Therefore, I was surprised to see Ike outclassed by Fujita.
Sexual harassment by Kimiko: She might have learnt it from Ogata in the OVA.

I wonder what Wilhelmina is hiding from Yuji and Shana.

I'm somewhat doubting she's going to have the time to start anything when there's a powerful Crimson Lord coming at them right now...
though maybe after this Pheles thing is cleared up it'll cause some major problems.

Quite a dissapointing episode.
The main thing which we were waiting for from last week's preview, Wilhelmia's news lasted 1-2 minutes only.
The rest, despite being apparently novel material still seemed like filler because of all the non-novel slice fillers we've already been given.

I have to agree with you. At least, they should extend the news to a longer duration. After all, this news is the main story of this episode, aptly called "The Promised Pair". Or better, as I said previously, they should animate what happened to Pheles and Johan. Well, I guess that I can't be too greedy.
After all, this news is the main story of this episode, aptly called "The Promised Pair".
I stopped falling for their dirty tricks with these "previews" after what happened with episode five's preview for six wherein the event ended up being a test in school instead of a conflict with a tomogara or something. :eyebrow:

What does the maid flame haze mean by saying Phyles's power is absolute? From how she speaks about her she seems a godness, but at the end she says "Phyles you're the only one I don't want to fight against" so the maid thinks to be a match for her, after all.
This was a night and day episode for me... First half was nothing more than boring filler. I honestly checked the timing at around 12 minutes, thinking that they may have skipped the commercial break and were nearing the end of another bad episode...
First half I'd give a 4, and that's lenient on the upside.
The second half was a lot of setup. It's been about 1.1 episodes of setup now, so next one better have something start. If not, they overdid it. I'd give that part a 6.
So, overall, 5. It's just another boring episode, but it has a bit of hope this time around.
Oh, and why is everyone is school calling Shana by the name Shana instead of Hikari?

Ike really does live a hard life. All the condolences on the guy trying to survive the day.
At any rate the Pheles news gets sprung and now there is even more to think about. Dealing with the question of silver flame which just doesn't happen and now a powerful opponent on the horizon.
Not a whole lot to say about the episode. But things look to be progressing so will just wait and see.

Seems as if Wilhelmina has more information about Pheles once based on her lines. Might be things that she didn't speak about to Yuji or Shana. If Pheles did have absolute power, then one could wonder about the battle that she and Johan were defeated in.
If someone could defeated that couple, then Yuji might pull off an upset should he confront the Guze Queen.

Absolute power? Eternal life? Messing around with time itself? I can dig it. Pheles sounds pretty awesome. And she certainly looks stylish. Long green hair is a must, for sure. Better than three-eyes.
On an unrelated note, Shana looked rather short going down the hill with Yuji at the end. Or, for some reason that seemed to stick out to me...

To Yuji, Shana has always been about chin-high.

I actually enjoyed the Konoe slice of life episodes, but I have to agree that I enjoyed these Shana and Yoshida slice of life moments better. Overall, a decent and enjoyable episode.
Nice to actually get the names of some side-characters. I wonder if Fujita-san and Nakamura will have any other impact on the storyline (besides draining Ike and harassing Shana and Yoshida in the shower).

Amazing - Khamsin appeared and nobody's ass got kicked. What a waste. All of this domestic bliss is fine, but it should have taken up about 1/4 as much screen time as it has. I know there's a bigger story out there we're building up to, but if the pace doesn't ratchet up soon I question how many are going to still be around to see it.

A whole ep dedicated to preparation for school festival lol Even slice-of-life series like Azumanga goes through the entire event in one ep. The phase has definitely gotten much slower and there are just too many unnecessary scenes.
What a surprise that reiji maigo was actually created by Pheles, a tomogara. If she's actually that strong, who could have defeated her. I hope that they will go deeper into that.
Other than the meeting with Wilhelmina, everything shown this ep is pretty much repeating the same things. Margery drinking, the eye-always-close guy blushing with the red-haired girl, Shana and Yoshida thinking about Yuuji without doing anything about it, and Yuuji just have no interest in woman or rather loli. Pretty much the same formula without any worthy development.

So I gave the episode another watch and I'm still going to go with my intended rating of 8/10.
The first half of the episode was a nice built up of just fun and slice of life, nothing special but better than the Konoe arc (It is novel material after all). It was going at a sound 7, but the second half was nicely played out in my opinion and is getting me psyched for the episodes to come, so it gets boosted to an 8/10.
As an anime only noob for this series, I am predicting that Pheles doesn't end up getting defeated due to how strong they make her seem. She'll come and go off on her own accord without really harming Yuji and the reiji maigo. Maybe she feels the sentiments for Yuji's and Shana's relationship as lovers to be? Perhaps I'm stretching it here...

If you recall from Wilhelmina's description, Pheles and Johan were so lovesick for each other that it went through boundaries of time. I don't think she'll let Yuji off the hook that easily.

Well I still think she won't actually be defeated in a fight, she's going to get demoralized in some way... If you played the game "Tales of Symphonia", I am expecting her to try and do a similar thing and raise her dead lover in a body with the reiji maigo, and perhaps get rejected? But then she maybe denies it and goes insane and silver protects everyone? Ack, I need to rethink my theory.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
That's the only reaction I have to this week's episode.
Should Yuji really be going out and leading a normal life when he's got this much crap stacked against him? Shouldn't he start going into training hardcore now? Didn't he plan to leave the city in the first season? I mean the events then are small potatoes compared to what he's inevitably been shoved into now.
And GOD ALL MIGHTY the close ups of Carmel-san absolutely NEVER fail to be hot as hell.

Hot... Moe... Disparity... Huge... Difference...
Recall that in episode 9 that Yuji and Shana learns of the Silver Flame within Yuji. We ALL know Margery won't take it lightly, and if stuff like this sparks up again, we may see a pointless and unnecessary battle, which nobody (in Misaki) wants. Also, due to recent events, Misaki City is now in a different wavelength in terms of the balance between the two worlds than say Paris, France, so having the Reiji Maigo, the center of the equation, leave just like that may cause problems, so Alastor has decided to play conservative.

All that needs to happen now is that Yuji is a splitting image of Johan and the harem theme will be complete!
I get the feeling that Wilma knows Pheles in some way.
Both the problems that Yuji is going to face can be easily mitigated by following Plan A, AKA leave the city. I try not to think about it, but staying in one place is asking for trouble not just for themselves but for the people around them.

Nothing will ever compare to the naruto fillers..... Now I will be mildly depressed for the rest of tonight due to filler relapse... May I remind you of a certain pissing scene on top of the roof? If Shana had degraded that far, we'd see far more complaints.
I gave it a 7/10. I missed what the story was supposed to tell I guess. Wonderful VAs though sounded great.
Now about these shower scenes. Over and over we see some rambunctious girl getting excited over others 'chest' size since they last showered together? Notice it does not happen in 'Male Showers or Hot spas? ROFLMAO...

Now that deserves a 9/10 from me. Even though nothing happened (as usual), I'm not watching Shakugan no Shana II with Shakugan no Shana expectations. As an episode, it's a very good one, with good plot development in a relaxing atmosphere that will likely to not remain that way. That or I'm just being very hopeful that something will happen soon.

alright, alright. you got me. I might've overexagerrated but this feeling im getting is very ominous. ominous :heh: im trying to describe the feeling of fillers alrite? :heh: Anyways, its definitely not what im looking when the 2nd season of Shana started. I was looking for Shana kicking ass and taking names. not some slice of life romance/harem. its just really dissapointing by all means right now. I mean, only bright spots so far has been like Margery's fight and her story. I'm HOPING we get to see something really good when Pheles arrives on the scene. I really wanna know more bout Yuuji's silver flame. Damn thing hooked me for this eps just for a lil tease.
I never thought i would see my name in an anime! :D JOHAN! And the pronunciation of the name is verry close to how you would say it here in sweden :)
I actually like this kind of episodes... however, I must agree with the fact that it feels verry different from season 1. But I'm not watching this anime just because of the fights, and I like "slice of life" and "school life" shows in general, so the change of pace dont bother me the slightest.
P.S: I hope this anime makes a complete turnover and Johan comes back to life, steals back his reji maigo from Yuji, and then he sweeps Shana of her feet and makes her completely fall in love with him. Then they spend the rest of their lifes togheter :D .......wishfull thinking I guess ;) hehe

-_- cmon, i havnt given a 7/10 in ages for anime i follow and this broke the streak. I loved how Shana looked and thats why its even high. But god damn, this feels like a Naruto Filler. Its a freakin crimeee!! =(
Too bad this is actually novel material.
Ha! Wishful thinking over the harem theme but Pheles is a few hundred or thousand years too old for Yuji.
Better yet, instead of Pheles looking for Yuji, why not Shana and Yuji gather all the available Hougu from Friagne's old hideout and go hunt Pheles instead?
One way or another, she'll inevitably encounter those two.
Shana and Yuji, the successors to the original Engage Link.

Now that would be great. I've been wanting them to go Bat Man style since the early episodes of S2. They could hole up in Friagne's place and Shanatan and the Boy Wonder Yuji could actually go and hunt out Pengu... I mean the Tomogara instead of waiting for something to happen. Either that or Kung Fu style where Shanatan and her sidekick Yujimbo go from town to town hunting out the efil existence eating bad guys and teach them morals via the way of the melon bread fist.
Oh well harem style loving with (alleged) slice of life is good too....

... Yujimbo? That's the best you can come up with?
But anyway, those two are enjoying life as it is now, because they won't have it for long.

Age doesn't mean much. The age difference between Pheles and Johan might be very large.
The most unlikely scenario would be if Chigusa and Kantaro told Yuji that he was actually adopted and that Pheles and Johan were his true parents though they themselve don't know of it.
Too much on the defense, I have to agree that Shana and Yuji try going on the offense for once.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
That unlikely scenario really cracks me up!
By the way, doesn't Shana know any other sword combat style because she seemed too much of a kendo fighter in the way she holds her sword.
ok i have a few preditions here, i have a feeling that Konoe is Pheles or that green hair girl in the opening is Pheles.
where is Khamsim dont tell me he only shows up for 2 secs in ep 10 and then never appears again

I read somewhere that Friagne owned a mountain of Hougus, most of which had little practical use. So, unless he kept a handy index of his possessions, they'd have too much work just cataloguing his stuff.

I always thought Friagne kept his (mostly useless) loot in his personal hammerspace, though, which evaporated when he died, causing them all to be redistributed...

Alright, so this episode was ok nothing special though finally there will be a conflict around next episode which I was waiting for last freaking 11 episodes! Although I admit that it was pretty funny episode as they threw some humor here and there.

No comment about the word "or" since I might get in trouble, but I didn't think about the possibility that Fumina Konoe is Pheles in disguise. With all this hectic stuff about continuity and straying from novel material, it's really possible.

Well even if something like that were going to happen, how would they explain the last scene of the last episode where we have Pheles calling out Johan? lolhecate is definitely going to come out with her identity after the pheles arc.

No way Konoe is Pheles in disguise. I'd like to say they're at least representing the Evil Council, since other than that they've done absolutely nothing this season besides repair their floating castle of doom and issue cryptic remarks. Which makes me wonder when they actually do anything that's in the novels, since last season's finale was anime-original, right?
But then, the Battle Butler makes me want to think they're some third-party good guys. Not sure what that could be, though. Maybe the Bone Collector?

Its a good chance that Konoe is Hecate, that bracelet she wheres makes her "human" so that no one would be able to sense that she's actually a tomogura.

Any scene can be represented in a dream. So let's say Fumina was dreaming back then.

If that's the case lets just say the whole show has been Yuiji's dream.

I don't think she is, especially with the wind rushing in towards the city which I think symbolises the arrival of Pheles

Wind = Pheles approaching, sure, but why does that mean Konoe can't be Hecate?

Okay. Sure. Yuji wakes up one morning and realizes that he wasn't a torch at all - that the 9 months he spent fighting against tomogara was all just a dream - that flame hazes and the Crimson World didn't exist at all... so why is Shana sleeping next to him?

Cuz Shana is his Childhood Friend who always sleeps next to him since they where children. She also calls him "Onii-chan" since she always wished to have a big brother and Yuji was her only male friend. He and his actually much cooler and succesfull best friend, who somehow does not have any luck with women and is only there for comedic relief.

There are some episodes from the novel itself. Marjorie arc (episode 8-9) is from vol. S. The arrival of Sakai Kantaro and study session are from also the novels. I think that starting from now onwards, the story is from the novels except the part about Fumina. The season 2 ending may be aligned closer to novel storyline, but rather than an anime original, I think.

Yuji may face opposition but he's still a chance at surviving them.
Doubt that Konoe is Pheles. More likely that Konoe could be Hecate instead. But is possible that she might change her loyalties and fight alongside Yuji after her time in living a human life and gaining memories for herself?

I meant specifically the Evil Cou---I mean, Bal Masque. What have they done at this point in the novels?

I was to lazy to read all posts on this episode 11 discussion so i apologise if i repeast something that has already had a reply to it.
Just a few things which have been bothering me after i watched this episde and thought i would voice them.
1. What the corpse retriever Rammie said was that the silver will just appear. Now the only other thing that just "appears" is the houga (if spelt wrong sorry) which leads me to think that the silver might be contained inside a houga now it could be random one or specific but from the looks of it possible the reiji maigo (if spelt wrong again sorry).
2. The starting has pheles extending her arms (im guessing its pheles) to yuji with shana looking at them so this is another thing that bothers me i thought she wanted the reiji maigo and and anther thing unlike hecate (again if spelt wrong sorry) she doesnt say at the end the reiji maigo she says johan which kind of leads be to believe that yuji didnt just possibly recieve this houga by random means possibly and yer its a long shot he could be the "reincarnation" of johan. Long shot but just a thought.
Now if there are people who know more about this thru reading the manga then please pm me if you could with some of the spoilers i like to know them tbh even tho it means i know what is coming i will still end up watching it.
Try not to be to harsh with your replys :P

Finally watched this ep. It's amazingly well done. We see the rivalry between Shana and Yoshida mature. We get information about Pheles and we get to see some awesome directing skills. The scene where Shana and Yuji were sticking pictures onto the cardboard and we see Shana remembering all the past events, were amazing.
That last scene where we see a wind swept grassy area and here Phele's voice call out Johan, was amazing.
I was wondering, Johan is dead right? Because only when he's dead will the hougo teleport to another torch. If that's the case, I don't see why Pheles would want the Reigo back since it won't be of any use even if she took it back..

It most likely is for memo. But who knows? If it's for some use, other secrets about the Reiji Maigo can be revealed =o
