the fight's next week. :heh: though then again there's some cool action moments: the 20 second training sequence between Shana and Yuji, Margery burning the entire backyard of Satou's house with blue flame, and the occasional flashes from Pheles' (or maybe it was just her unrestricted method's) point of view flying over Japan.
uh, so this week is mainly focused around the school festival, and also Wilhelmina telling Margery about the silver flame problem (since I suppose next to Ramie she's the expert on such things.) Which isn't bad really, those two (er...four) hardly have any interaction together. The kids at school and the two older flame hazes have some nice moments too. It kinda reminds me of watching Shana in the early days...despite how old they are they're surprisingly out of touch with reality sometimes.
Oh, and Ike continues his life as comic relief by having his arms tied to a pole (appropriate choice for a scarecrow who wants a brain. >_>), laughed at by the entire school, being left for dead in the infirmary, and then upon recovering being dragged around by the other class rep just like last week.
well, right when Shana is about to express her feelings (for the 1st time I suppose, since s1's end might as well not exist), out comes Pheles. >_< at least she has a nice theme song. This is definitely the kind of school material S1 had a lot of (character interaction while guze stuff was brewing in the background), and a massive brawl between the flame hazes and Yuji (maybe?) against one apparently ridiculously powerful tomogara is about to start...so I think most people should be relatively pleased

it's the 2nd eyecatch this week. has nothing to do with the episode though. 0_o
very good episode. almost follow the novel perfectly, good time management, nice comedy on fumina as well as ike (poor ike again) good yuri on wilhelmina & margery (hey), surprising eyecatch (kiyashii 's Matilda and shana are so nice!), interesting new BGM.
just quiet disappointed on drawing style on part b (not too bad actually... for wilhelmina and margery)...pheles' face...come on, that's totally different from the face in next episode preview, right?

wilhelmina's mask design changed. more near to the original... although the mask in S1 is more sutible for wilhelmina's character design (especially the one dress in middle ages style), in my opinion.
and satisfactory for the description on jizaihou 風の転輪 in the episode.

I hope that's just a matter of viewing angle? (first is viewed from a lower angle):heh:
OMG! The entire episode is a huge set up for something in the future and of course something big happens at the end. Ugh, I hate cliff hangers. Hope it gets good from here on out. I'm expecting ep 13 to be good.

I'm assuming that TBS is taking a holiday in general. They will probably re-air Shakugan no Shana 2 episode 12 two more times because nobody will be at the TBS station.
I love how the hiatus notice comes up on the only dramatic part of the episode.

Although I cringe at the cheesiness on pretty much every episode this season, I cringed the least in this one...
So it gets a 10.
My first 10 for this season. I figured Pheles was either going to show up at the end of this episode or the next, seems I was right on that. I noticed some new tracks being played this episode, will be looking forward to the soundtrack's release in January. :)
(kiyashii 's Matilda and shana are so nice!), interesting new BGM.
Is kiyashii the one who drew that eyecatch? That would explain why I was getting these "this looks familiar" vibes when I saw that.
wilhelmina's mask design changed
Yeah, I noticed this one too.
interesting that the new mask's shape is like Ito's, but they kept the coloration of the season 1 version (and that yellow forehead marking)

Great episode, probably one of the best yet! Next time should be even better!
-One of the best moments (in comedy) has got to be Saito! A dog here too... >_<
-Nice eyecatch
-As always, Hayato is the victim for comedy, be it crucifixion or being poked by Fumina... When did he turn into a character for comedy...?
-At first, I thought that Fumina noticing the wind and her reaction was something suspicious, but after Pheles made such an entrance, it wasn't so suspicious, because everyone was basically like that and Pheles didn't use a Seal (Shame on her :frustrated:). That, and well, Fumina seems to have an affinity with nature.
-Nice costumes, whether funny or cool/cute
-I liked those scenes of moving wind and joining hands (though it turned amusing after a few times)
-Next time - ????!!!!!!!!! Ogata disappearing?! What?!

Sooo... judging by people's reactions to this episode, something is actually going to be happening in the near future? If we're lucky, we'll see more of this kind of thing in the future. Hopefully they will find a way to stall the current action so that we can see more school life. This season would feel uncomfortably different otherwise. I can't wait for this confrontation. Well, my fingers are crossed that Pheles will just leave peacefully.

Depends on which sub group you're depending on. If it's SS-Eclipse, I wouldn't count on it being released until probably Monday.

You must be pretty new to the anime world. Let me give you some tips on fansubs.
As talented and time-available as they are, Dattebayo is probably the most arrogant sub group that I have ever seen. They have ridiculous ethics, such as "show up at this time on this day and work on the episode" etc. or else you're out of the sub group. And as such, they only sub the popular ones, Naruto and Bleach. And when an episode isn't shown, instead of nicely telling their loyal downloaders "we're sorry, there will be no episode this week", they just troll their own website with some ridiculous demands and ban the weaklings who fall for it.
As far as I know, Dattebayo is the fastest subbing group in the history of sub groups, and they don't check quality (as far as I know). They are only concerned about speed and getting it done as quickly as possible, going over the translated subs about once for quality.
Not all fansubbers do that. There are fansub groups who emphasize quality over speed, and as such, there are fans who prefer quality over speed. A quality fansub generally takes longer than a speed fansub, usually taking a week if not longer to subtitle an episode. They usually go over the script three or four times to make sure they get everything right, and then when they feel that the episode is in perfect condition, they release the episode. Eclipse is a good example of this. Their fansubs are probably the best in terms of quality, but they generally take a while to do so.
Usually, when speed is an issue, they team up with another fansub group. An example of this is Eclipse creating a joint project with Static Subs, another quality fansubbing group. They not only work fast, but they also try to make their subtitles look nice, sometimes going as far as changing the colors of the text to fit specific characters, as well as making sure that the translations are perfect in terms of typesetting, timing, and the like. It is a huge handle.
Let me put it this way. Not everybody is as talented as the Dattebayo group, but some episodes subbed by various groups are much better then the ones Dattebayo presents.
So to answer your question, Dattebayo is technically the fastest sub group I can think of, but they only do Naruto and Bleach. You'll have to look around for other groups, and don't ask them to do it faster. Unlike the Dattebayo staff, those fansubbers actually have lives to live.

^I definitely agree that SS-Eclipse (by far my most favorite joint group) delivers high quality, although for quite a few times, there are typos somewhere in the episode. Fortunately, since it's a softsub release (the H264 one, at least), the sub is editable so there's no major concern (not like typo is a big issue anyway, though). Sadly, I don't know how to do that. ;_;
@limyuhui
Since there's no speed sub for SnS2, your best bet is to wait...
SS-Eclipse would have release Shana faster have they not gotten their hands full with other projects (but Clannad TV and Hayate no Gotoku both are my favorite animes so no grief).
Well errr... it has been all off-topic, let's get back to episode 12 discussion. (*didn't watch episode 12*) Well err... it was interesting?... (*here's hoping the admin will let it slide*)

You're telling us. J.C. Staff should have started this in July. Delay ZnT II for a bit, and both come out winners. Shana's story ends in Christmas, and it would have been Christmas when we got there.
Can someone explain a bit more detailed just what this two-week break is about? I'm assuming the break has to do with Christmas/New Year. But that seems like a weird thing to do, since people watch more TV during the holidays, right?
Thankfully I'm already spoiled with the story. Because otherwise, this break would probably drive me nuts. They should've had one during an earlier school-life episode, when a two-week gap wouldn't be noticeable.

This has got to be one of the best SnS stills...ever. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed it.
My only problem with this episode was that once Shana decided to confess again, you just KNOW that something is going to go wrong. Killed the surprise a little bit, but otherwise, the SnS that we all know and love is back!

Trust me, you don't want to see speed subbed work. Without a few quality checks, the subs will be wrong. Taking lines out of context and twisting the meaning is a certainty with just a typed up script. Not to mention, Japanese to English isn't easy to begin with. So either learn Japanese, wait 2 days for high-quality subs, or wait months and buy the DVD.

Well, that's really a problem with the series as a whole: it's all about Shana and Yuji getting close and then a setback destroying all that hard work. :heh:
Maybe she'll confess after the fight, since the cause of the confession wasn't imminent death like the previous one. >_> (actually...did anyone else find that confession kinda funny? I couldn't help thinking the reason she shouted into the microphone was so Yuji would definitely be able to hear her this time.)

Preview for something that will air two weeks from now...
The setting is the first day of the Seishuu Festival.
On the specially set-up stage in the courtyard, It happened right after the winners of the costume parade were announced.
A tornado suddenly appears on the stage.
Yuuji was captured in the middle of the amber-colored wind.
But in that, a new color of flame runs in, and a Seal is set. At that moment, Margery's expression changes completely.
Margery, who lets of an explosion of ultramarine-colored flames, changes into her toga and dives into the tornado.
"Please, listen..." Will Wilhelmina's desperate persuasion reach Margery, who has lost herself?
On the other hand, Shana was fighting with the Denizen aiming fo Yuuji.
The one who controls the amber wind is "Saihyou (Colorful Waving/Flutter)" Pheles, one of the "Engage Link" who created the Midnight Lost Child long ago.

I generally feel this episode is ok. Nice presentation of the original novel story. However, the scenes of Pheles rushing across the earth are horrible. The graphs they have drawns are at preliminary school level... I doubt whether they are really short in fund right now so that they have to cut the corners....
I think the fight would be Shana and Yuji vs Pheles vs Margery in a 2 vs 1 vs 1. I doubt Pheles would allow Margery anywhere near the Reiji Maigo out of fear of a random translocation should Yuji be killed.

This is pretty much "meh" for me
Only bit that got be excited was when the wind story kicked up. Shana's untimely attempt to confess managed to get a chuckle out of me while the rest of the ep was just like previous eps so it is easily forgotten

The scene I love the most is when Yuji and Shana are alone during their training, reflecting their thought together. I want more of this scene in the subsequent episodes.
How did Wilhemina persuade Marjorie to go to the festival? By promising her that she will tell her at the festival? Is the lack of patience causing Margery to burn the backyard of Satou's house?
Certainly, it is "nice" timing. Just when everything is heated up because of the arrival of Pheles, we are going to have 2 weeks of no Shana. Sigh, have to wait....
Can Shana just confess to Yuji privately? Announcing the confession in public may seem a bit embarassing. Like, do you need the whole world to know the confession? As along as Yuji does hear it, it should be enough.
Another scene of Kazumi knowing that she is losing out to Shana. At the parade, after Yuji vowes to enjoy the moment, he turn his head back to look at Shana only.

That near-confession was awesome; very, very Shana. Dramatic and downright aggressive; entirely within character for her to do something like that--shout it out in front of the whole crowd. But I agree, it was also funny. Only Shana could make this sort of thing sound like a challenge to a duel.
My worry, though, is if we get a near-confession in ep. 12, and this season is supposed to run 20+ eps, how in heaven's name will the writers plausibly delay the climactic confession? And if she *does* confess soon, how does Yuji not look like a dolt for delaying a decision for ten episodes or so? Do they completely flip the switch and go to a frenetic battle-driven pace, where Yuji is so busy fending off multiple threats to his life that the whole romance thing becomes secondary until the end of the series? Or do they somehow take all of Shana's determination to be honest away from her? But how would they do that?

How about they put in an anime-only final boss, get Shana and Yuuji to fight them, and during the fight, Shana confesses, but at the same time, Yuuji gets sent flying into pole. This way, Yuuji won't look like a dolt, because he would be busy howling in pain and trying to un-skewer himself. This would also be a way to repeat season 1, by having Yuuji not hear what Shana was saying, and lead to season 3 and the stuff in later novels. At the same time, Yuuji-on-a-skewer would be symbolism-He's receiving the pain he caused the girls and viewers by being a dense dolt
I'm 97/100 joking.

The best episode this series so far. Why couldn't JC STAFF have done this earlier? They know they can do this. All the foreboding, the calm before the storm, and sure enough, Pheles literally arrived in a twister.
The first scene after Yuji and Shana duelled each other in training, on their way to school, Yuji tripped. Shana simply stood and smiled at him. Yuji just stared as Shana walked off for a while.
Before he sees Shana as merely a trusted companion, but as Yoshida said last episode, it seems like he's beginning to fall for Shana without even realizing it. So despite her best efforts, Yoshida probably couldn't avoid losing to Shana.
Whether it's in the novels or just JC STAFF having fun, I very like the idea of Margery x Wilhelmina yuri. :D
Trivia: Is it me or do I see a guy dressed in a Saito-puppy costume from ZnT in the parade?
The second eyecatch looks like it's illustrated by Ito Noiji herself, of Shana and her predecessor - Mathilda Saint-Omer. I'd be delighted if they animate novel volume 10, the second prequel that chronicles Mathilda's final battle.

And Pheles looks so downright *mean*--ep. 13 looks to be epic.

If my memory serves me right, in the novel
There were tides and tides of cruel fighting from this point on, and Shana and Yuuji just did not have time to sit down and straighten the things out. When they finally did ... bang... I got a WTF moment then...
If I understand correctly from the novel, Yuuji was always loving Shana, but just could not convince himself that there was a possibility that Shana was also loving him. He considered Shana too powerful, too noble for him to touch... Of course, in the anime version things might be different. Also in the novel Yuuji fared far better than he did in the anime.
......
Whether it's in the novels or just JC STAFF having fun, I very like the idea of Margery x Wilhelmina yuri. :D
......
Yeah, for a moment I almost thought both of them were going to "take the food debris from the other's face and eat it..." (a romance trope...), but thanks for them not pulling that out. It would have been downright fanservice in my mind.
This brings about this question: I know Nabatame Hitomi (CV of Margery) and Itou Shizuka (CV of Wilhelmina) often appear in the same series. However, I cannot remember any scene involving both two having some sorts of yuri relationship, not even in the wildest speculation... Is this one so far the cloeset we have got?

Well, if you believe the claims by Nabatame that she has plenty of "relations" with all sorts of female seiyuus, you could say the "chemistry" is more than natural.

I think Kurogane of the above blog has a post mentioning about seiyuu yuri, but I can't remember where, either ask him or find out yourself.
After reading volume 10, the second prequel, I'm feeling very sorry for Wilhelmina's unrequited love not coming to fruition.
In the flashback episodes in the first season, we can see this relationship (confirmed in the novels as well):
Alastor <---> Mathilda <--- Merihim (Shiro, Shana's skeletal mentor) <--- Wilhelmina
(This is also why Alastor does not comment or object to Shana's feelings, since he's been there before)
So she might as well be better off with Margery. :D

I think the most rumored couples are the following:
1. Nakahara Mai X Shimizu Ai
2. Nabatame Hitomi X Itou Shizuka
3. Kawasumi Ayako X Noto Mamiko
I kinda believe the first one. After all, they kissed each other in the Strawberry Panic ED @#!@#%!$@! (so talking about the Tamao X Nagisa...)
For the 2 and 3, I think they are just close colleague appearing in a lot of series together, like Shana...

Of course the moment we are about to step into a huge battle we hit the Christmas break :heh:.
But anyways things are really going to get serious now. Just know Margery is going to fly off the handle and just rush in there. Plus you have that slight issue of Pheles being there. Blasting the stage with a twister was a subtle approach to things.
Can't quite blame Shana for wanting a microphone for this confession. Considering last time it didn't quite sink in should go for broke. Besides she wasn't nervous and could just put it as a mission she had to do.
May I be the only one worried about the line "Tanaka sees Ogata disappearing within the flames"? They've spent half a season in a reasonably relaxed state and will start torching characters on us?

Pheles looks so *cool*.
I don't know about novels or whatever, but the Shakugan no Shana anime series has always had this problem with funny villains. A doll pervert, a twincest pair, Klaus-san a chimera bodyguard, Ms. Evil Eye-Patch Mastermind... Pheles is the first one that actually looks cool. When she appears in the episode she doesn't seem evil or malicious or whatever, just plain simple "I'll tear you apart (and give me back my love's keepsake!)" cold eyes pointed right at poor Yuji. :heh: I wonder if the OP suggests a change in attitude later on or is she just gonna try and kill him anyway.
This episode is like the culmination of all the slice-of-life episodes prior to it, and the definite shift in the show's tone also begins here. Right on time, I say! Although I do find it rather amusing, if a bit sadistic of them producers, that Shana is going on a Christmas/New Year hiatus right on the biggest cliffhanger of the whole season. lulz
Loved the costumes by the way. Everybody looks good, especially Dorothy-Shana!
Certain...inconsistencies...in animation aside (Pheles/her magic moving through the river anyone? The trees are like, 6th grade-looking), this episode gains a 10 out of me.

When will anime ppl learn that if you are going to confess, spit it out! Even if you pause for a microsecond you will get interrupted :p

I know the author tries to create a love triangle. But from a realistic standpoint, there actually is no choice. Yuuji is a torch. Basically, he's dead. And unless he can miraculously come back to life, his only future lies with Shana.
Well, because of the amount of power of existence he has, he can technically live alone as a King of Guze/Flame Haze hybrid or something. But really, his future lies with Shana.
After reading volume 10, the second prequel, I'm feeling very sorry for Wilhelmina's unrequited love not coming to fruition.
I feel more sorry that Wilhelmina decides to get rid of that dress she had one for Merihim, and instead opt for the ugly maid getup the rest of the time. ;)
Episode 12 was easily the best episode i've seen so far from the second season --- the pacing was probably the best part about it. You have the scenes showing Pheles' moving closer and Margery Daw now knowing that Wilhelmina knows something about Silver. I guess we have a lot of things to take in, like Konoe's reaction to the wind --- this probably could just be nothing, though considering that we still don't know about her, and that she could be Hecate, we could have our first clue right here. But wow Pheles' entrance --- the music was VERY Ko Otani, and i loved it.
Going by the preview, episode 13 is going to be complete madness --- just seeing Margery's berserk face is enough for me to believe this. Seeing how Ogata was acting in episode 12, i wouldn't be all that surprised if she dies next episode.
So, the ending 10 seconds were awesome. The background music at that part was amazing, and if it were a track, would be 2nd only the the BGM in the climax of the movie. The preview was awesome. The series potential is great now.
So, it's more build up. However, 3 straight episodes of build up is too much. Build up for 1, and then get into the plot. The last 2 episodes could have easily been combined, and then there could be something good happening already.
So, I said that there were 10 seconds of awesomeness. Well, then we have 19:50 of boring. I took 3 breaks from it, because I can no longer watch this straight through.
I'm giving it a 5. 4 for being an aweful episode, add one for making me hope for something better in this series.
son of a every show puts on their biggest cliff hanger right now and we wont' see it for another 2 weeks and then some those little conniving @#$(%$#! although to be fair to them if the last episode they played was one of the episodes from 1-11 I probably wouldn't tune in after that long a break.
-1 for shana looking silly during the confession, +1 for kazumi getting moved out of the picture soon! woot!
This is definitely one of my favourite episodes of the whole of season 2. Finally, some good fights should be coming up in the next episode. Not that I don't like all of the relationships, but I miss the fighting.

A highly rated Shana episode? On Animesuki? I couldn't believe it... Now, I apologize for my lack of faith ;_;
I usually check the ratings the day after the airing to get an initial impression on what to expect.
I couldn't believe that it could be that good.
I enjoyed it thoroughly. The funny parts, the foreshadowing of some things, the ominous feeling it had without stopping of being a feel-good episode.

I haven't been as down on this season as some others, but, for me, this was definitely the best ep. so far. A few random thoughts:
1. Shana's near-confession was priceless, especially her literal interpretation of the girls' suggestion at the beginning to say whatever she wanted to Yuji. They probably meant it as a joke, but Shana took it seriously.
2. The near-confession was also wonderfully in character, and contrasted well with Yoshida's super sappy comments to Yuji about waiting. Grabbing the mike, yelling "Yuji!," and giving off a general air of intimidation and aggressiveness was *very* Shana. No waiting there!
3. Shana's outfit was preposterously cute.
4. What exactly is the significance of Yuji's hands seeming touch the hands of that other girl, then leading to the tornado? And what's the significance of Konoe noticing the wind?
5. Yoshida continues to have ZERO chance of beating out Shana.
6. As always, Yuji seemed to be taking the latest grim news on his fate reasonably well; hopefully we'll see him participating in a full-blown fight soon.
The hand thing I believe is Pheles traveling from person to person. In the scenes showing Pheles's coming, hands of different people are shown exchanging handshakes as if they were passing it on. I did not read that far into the novels so that is just my assumption.
I think you are right, zgube. All the 'flash' hands were different each time.

This ep is awesome... right before the end lol For some reason, I can't even laugh at poor Ike cause the entire festival is just boring. An interesting part from the parade is the jealousy Satou felt for Yuuji. Too bad there is no sign that Satou possess any super powers otherwise they can become rivals and fight each other.
It's kinda expected that Shana won't be able to confess to Yuji because 'something' bad will happen and that something is Pheles' arrival. Her arrival is done really well with the hand touching thing. So that means all the hand touchings she was seeing on the way to Misaki city were all Yuji's? Lol How can she not feel them before now that it's already season 2?
Next ep is gonna be awesome with the battle against Pheles and Margerie going berserk. But it will be pretty stupid if Margerie thought Yuuji is the silver knight. I hope alcohol doesn't ruin her common sense.
I wonder if anyone else caught this.

Yes. That is correct. The unrestricted spell Pheles created basically move from person to person through touch, until the spell finds Reig Maigo.
Easily the best episode of II as many others have said. Great pacing and set up for the next episode. Would have put a 7 but Pheles' entrance alone kicks it up another notch.

Guess its been so long since a group of civilians got caught up in something I forgot :heh:. Long as Yuji can be used as a stop gap and the damage isn't impossible to repair shouldn't be too bad. I am giving this episode a ten even though it doesn't deserve it is because it is clearly the best episode so far and I enjoyed most of it. It's not action-packed but I get a nice slice-of-life-ish feeling that makes me want more of it, so that's good enough for me I guess. Good episode. 8/10. I'm saving my 9s for the awesomeness to come. There was a lot to appreciate in this episode... Everything has already been mentioned so I won't bother.
Shana really did look adorable in her costume :3
The Seishuu Festival arc turned even better than the Misago Festival arc from the previous Shana season.
In the Misago Festival the Bal Masqué had everything pre-planned and made preparations to make their scheme come into fruition.
For the Seishuu Festival the camera changes from the audience's view to Pheles' view from cut to cut to accentuate that she's coming closer towards her objective, and there's nothing prevent it from doing so.
The suspense was exquisitely built and on-timing.
And it was smart decision to close the episode with Pheles's arrival as the cliffhanger. Her theme song has made me to look forward for the soundtrack for season two.
I was left on the verge of my seat when Shana was about to confess what her heart desired to Yuuji, but the unrestricted method exploded and in a sandstorm Pheles appeared.
And I proved my suspicions correct. Pheles is the green-haired lady featured in the current opening sequence.
I'm expecting that when the show returns to broadcast on January the 10th they'll have introduce a new opening and ending songs.

Great episode especially the ending. The build up was great as I expected something to go down at the end and man did it ever with the arrival of Pheles so it seems like Shana is back folks time to kick into high gear. Although this episode was good it was just a build up to 13 which should prove to be mind buster. Especially with Margery going berserk after seeing the silver flame.
Oh god please dont kill Oga-chan that would just be horrible. I can easily see Tanaka ending up like Margery if that happened. However the message said he sees Oga disappearing in a sea of a flames there are only so many ways you can interpret that. I think she will be the first causality even though i hope it does not happen.
Also, our favorite Hecate look alike reveled something in this episode. She was very in tune when the Pheles's wind arrived like she could sense who it was. A normal human would not have such power. After seeing that and putting together a couple of other pieces like how she clings to Yuji who she shared a link to in the first season im convinced she is Hecate.

Would have been interesting if Margery tried to hit Wilhelmina with the wine bottle when she heard the word "Silver" to show an inkling of her berserk-like rage.
Back in Season 1, this seems like a dumb question but if Hecate had maintained the synchronization, wouldn't that caused Yuji to die in the assimilation? She said something about having absorbed others, so is the synchronization actually fatal?

I doubt Yuji knew what was about to follow--Shana's demeanor was so aggressive, beginning with the way she snatched the mike out of the announcer's hand. He probably thought she was going to chew him out or something. :) If she had been able to finish the confession, after a brief moment of shock, I actually think Yuji would have immediately reciprocated. Of course, that would be too easy, so Pheles had to show up at just that moment.

Yea, my only grief for this episode is that Shana wasn't able to finish her confession. :( The situation would turn out both comedic and sweet if she did... Not very fair for Shana since Yoshida finish what she said, too. :uhoh:

May not be very fair, but that doesn't really matter. We all know Yoshida has no chance of ending up with Yuji. Even if she did beat out Shana for Yuji's heart (an idea which I find hilariously improbable), there would still be the whole issue of Yuji = immortal, Yoshida = Not. So I say let her have her moment in the spotlight, as her efforts will be fruitless in the end.

Yep, Yoshida has ZERO chance, despite the fact that her sweet easygoing demeanor actually fits Yuji better in some ways (disregarding the whole immortality issue). The scene where Yoshida asked if she could wait for him--not a good sign in the first place for her prospects--ended with Yuji looking like a nice guy trying to figure out how to tell a love-struck friend he had no romantic feelings for her without breaking her heart. He got saved by the PA announcement.
I like the scene where she snatch the Mic... So kawaii!

I know what you mean, the timing probably wasn't right (i mean right after Yoshida confessed and doing it in front of a croud), it certainly wasn't graceful and a little awkward but there is just something about a girl picking up her courage realising her true feelings and confessing that gets to me.. A great scene, really wished that Shana could of confessed.

Agreed, but I think that it's just that kind of awkwardness and brute force approach that really characterizes Shana. While she can be thought of as a cookie-cutter character with tsundere and fighting-girl traits, her somewhat anti-social nature is what separates her from say...Hinagiku who has the same traits.

Yeah it really is just like Shana to grab the mic and begin a confession in a pretty aggressive manner. I guess the moment she actually gets it heard its game over for Kazumi so there's the question of when its actually going to happen.

I suspect next time Shana decides to confess, she would probably hand Yuji the anti-flame ring and goes Tenpa Jyousai, no interruption. :heh:

Anyone knows how the heck those guys that Margery was trying to kill in that dream of hers were able to move inside the Fuzetsu that the Silver put up?
Anyways, an inevitable conflict awaits but when are they going to utilize Fecor? So far, he's only appeared in episode 3 and it'd be a pity if his only purpose was just that.

Finally, the filler seems to be over. And now we've got a wind-user; probably the first Tomogoro to look dangerous since that Friag-something. The episode ends with a feeling of, "Oh crap!" there's a really big problem--a revived feeling of crisis that has been lacking in most of the Sn II episodes (except 10, with the silver fuzetsu.)
I already like this character; its a good thing Pheles didn't smile when she appeared because if she had, it would have looked silly and ruined the mood. She looks like a female Sephiroh... Its cool how that tornado even sends Shana flying...I love how there are bits of earth flying in the tornado, and how dust obscures her form. Unlike most of the other villians, she doesn't have the ridicolous smile plastered on her face--instead she looks calm, while Yuuji alone can see her through the blinding dust without blinking (since he's in the eye of the storm). Its just the two of them together while everything rages outside. By the way, they all had great costumes in this episode, especially Yuuji in his uniform. I'm looking forward to him wearing that 3 star General-esque uniform from the OP--when he does he'll finally stop looking like a pansy/weak semi-average school-kid (average except for the harlem of girls around him) who was caught up in events beyond his control! That plus the fuzetsu, and who he'll become...finally we'll have what this show has needed from the start of SN1: a strong protagonist!
I also love how her presence comes out in real time, in a crowd, without a fuzetsu! Wonder if we'll have some Sunny-dale syndrome after this...
The whole appearance was just as cool as in the OP where she's flying around slashing at the water to create title waves. I can't wait to see some good element battles...
(Speculation follows):
K-something: Earth
Margery: Probably Void or Electricity (Of course there could be no element affiliation other than those ambiguous pink flames.)
Shana: Fire
Pheles: Wind
Since the crimson lords have western names, I'll assume we'll following Western tradition with the elements--can't wait to see if Johan has an element, and who will be stuck with Shana's opposite--water.

^Aren't Angels and Demons a western tradition? The names of several of the characters certainly aren't Japanese.
By the way, someone earlier on this trhead was comparing the fan-groups, and I'd like to comment that Ayako-YM did a MUCH better job of translating the lyrics to the OP and ending in non-ambigous terms.
*spoiler*
However, their translation is very ambigous on Yuuji's promise to Shana: they translated it as, "I promise: no matter what happens I will go ahead."
Eclipse translated it as: "Shana: "Swear one thing to me. That you'll make a choice and fight for it."
Yuuji: "I will. I swear to fight no matter what happens."
Eclipse was less ambiguous here, but since Ayako-YM did better on the OP/Ending, so I'm not sure which group is better. If you take away the fact that most of us are familar with Eclipse since they seem to translate half of the anime under the sun, I'm not past comparing their work with other groups.

No Angels, and Demons aren't a western tradition they're actually european, and asian traditions. Aso the elements that are used are quite random, and they person who wrote SnS probably just added an element that would fit the main situation they're in because according to the Novels, and the first few episodes of Season 1 every Tomogora, and Flame Haze can use flames.

Well, I'd first like to say that I came to watch this anime because I was hooked by the "surreal" fact. As such, I absolutely abhore school scenes that hardly have anything to do with what I see as the better half of the storyline...anyways, I thought this episode was pretty good after the mid-way point.
I'd say a 8/10...nah, 9/10 because the next episode will definitely be action-packed ^_^.

Margery uses Fire as well, remember how Friagne was able to block all of her attacks with Azure?
Its my theory that all Flame Haze use either fire, or physical attacks (they are called Flame Haze after all). So far the only ones we've seen using anything other then that are the Tomogara.

She's right, and as I stated in my previous post anyone who can manipulate PoE can use flames if they learned how because it's just another form of PoE manipulation, but Tomogora, and Flame Haze choose on they're preferences.

Whose the other girl? Mathilda?
That's Mathilde.
Couldn't the writers make a Hougu that looks and acts like a fire extinguisher since a majority of Guze combat skills uses fire?
They did that, actually. Remember Azure? It saved Yuji a couple of times already.
Azure is mostly for defensive purposes in shielding the user from fire.
The fire extinguisher Hougu idea would be one that prevents a Flame Haze from using his or her own fire-based combat skills in battle.
Perhaps, for comical reasons, some random Tomogara used a fire extinguisher while battling Shana and as soon as she summons her flaming wings, the Tomogara blasts Shana with the fire extinguisher while she's in mid-air and Shana plummets like a bird that just got shot while flying in the sky.

Haze doesn't necessarily involve water. From the Wikipedia article:
atmospheric phenomenon where dust, smoke and other dry particles obscure the clarity of the sky. The WMO manual of codes includes a classification of horizontal obscuration into categories of fog, ice fog, steam fog, mist, haze, smoke, volcanic ash, dust, sand and snow. [1]
IIRC, isn't the whole "crimson world" made up of/engulfed in "flames" of one sort or another?

I have some theories on the Konoe/Hecate connection. I don't know if anything like this ever happens in the novels, but. . .
In the beginning, Shana steals Hirai Yukari's last trace of existence and weaves herself a cover identity. Shana didn't look at all different, she just was percieved as such.
I suspect that it may be possible for the denizens to do a similar trick. Konoe Fumina was probably just another human victim, whose existence was put to use to give Hecate plausible deniability. The bracelet might be a form of cocytus, sealing off enough of Hecate's crimson nature to make her nearly indistinguishable from a human, and even allow her to be frozen in fuzetsu.I can't see Hecate playing that charade so well on her own talent, so she may have had some "programming" done after she assumed near-human form. This is the sort of bizarre work the mad professor would glady engage in I'm sure, but the real problem is figuring out just why the Bal Masque would possibly engage in such a risky gamble. There must be more layers to such a plot than just trying to get close to Yuji, when they're risking leaving one of their most critical assets completely defenseless if Shana or anybody else jumps the gun.
One thing it seemed to me was certain enough: there was something important hinted at in the scene with Yuji, Fumina, and the bird she saved from the fallen nest. It seemed to me that Yuji half-recognized that she was "synchronizing" with animals, in a near-telepathic empathy. But then he simply brushed it away in his usual thick-skulled manner with "She really does resemble her."

Dear lord, I re watched the Shakugan no Shana Movie out of boredom and fell in love with the series again. That was a nice jostle to remind me how this series really is like. Now I am expecting a great deal of awing events to come!
Withdrawal hurts, so if you are an anime addict like me do the following:
1. Dial 911
2. Look out the window to see if anything has changed in the past two years
3. Work
4. Call J.C. Staff and threaten to impeach them.
5. Re-Introduce yourself to your immediate family.
If this does not seem to quell your withdrawal symptoms then you can plot how to take over the world so you can decide what anime gets released and when it releases.

Interesting theory i am very eager to find out what the deal is with her. But dont forget the other hint from episode 12. Konoe reaction to Pheles presence even though Konoe was out of eyesight from her and technically Pheles had not even materialized yet. There is no way she is a normal human to sense a pressence like Pheles.

Jingi are not univerally called Cocytus, just Alastor's jingi are. Like how Marco's is called a Grimoire and Tiamat's is a Persona.
Case in point.
Alastor = Chief monarch of Hell, Cocytus is a river in hell.
Marchosias = Demon of the Ars Goetia, The Lesser Key of Solomon is a Grimoire.

The translations are:
