Hello, I just registered, and this seems to be a good place to start.

Good question. My musical tastes come and go, usually following whatever anime show I'm watching at the time. I remember the time where I'm infatuated with music from shows like Ranma 1/2, Devil Hunter Yohko, DNA^2 and Kimagure Orange Road. Now I can't get enough of Mikuni Shimokawa's songs in Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

But if I really were forced to choose my favorite, I'd probably say Do You Remember Love by Mari Iijima for the anime OAV/Movie Macross: Do You Remember Love? The Macross shows has always had great music. Probably because of the basic theme of the story, protoculture and all that.

BTW, tsurumaru, I also like Yakusoku wa Iranai from Escaflowne. And the Rahxephon OP is Hemisphere, sung by Maaya Sakamoto. It says so here in my Winamp. :)

Now that I've listened to the anime mp3s in my comp, I may want to add Yakusoku by Yui Horie for the anime Love Hina. Very sweet. DNA^2's OP Blurry Eyes is very upbeat and sticks to your mind quite easily (earworms (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/10/20/entertainment/main578961.shtml) they call it). And I really, really like Mangetsu no Shiwaza from the anime Devil Hunter Yohko. And there's an english song that I like too: I'm a Pioneer by Sharyn Scott from the anime Tenchi Muyo. And two other english songs from that anime are also good, Washu's Lullaby by Scottie Haskell and Talent for Love, also by Sharyn Scott.

And there are also some anime BGM/Instrumentals that I like. I can't get enough of Saitoh Hajime's theme BGM Hoeru Miburo (from Rurouni Kenshin) , and the moving theme That Bittersweet Song from Ranma 1/2.

Pretty much anything from Mikuni Shimokawa, she sings the Full Metal Panic! and Full Metal Fumoffu? openings and endings as well as the Dragon Drive opening.

I also like Getbackers 2nd opening, it's called Barairo no Sekai and sung by Pierrot.
Getbackers 1st ending "Ichi Byoo No Refrain" by Otoha is great too.

Naruto's first ending song Wing is pretty nice also

Although I love almost all of the anime music that is out there, my current favorites are:

Full Metal Panic Fumoffu - "Sore ga, Ai deshou" - Shimokawa Mikuni.

I went shopping in Ikebukuro ( Which in turn is in Tokyo ), and it took me FIVE stores to find the darn CD for this song. In the end i ended up shelling about 1200 yen, or 11 bucks for it. But ohhhh has it been worth it. :D Sadly I am only in Japan for another couple of weeks :(

Definitely the Fushigi no Umi no Nadia (Nadia: Secret of Blue Water) opening theme, "Blue Water" by Miho Morikawa. I've even become a big fan of her since hearing that on the soundtrack. It's a shame how obscure she is..other great anime themes she's done:

Honestly? Kinda iffy question.

The intro to Serial Experiments: Lain (American DVD version). Can't remember the name, but the lyrics got stuck in my head... as did Lain. Sigh --- such a weird, yet oddly fulfilling series.

Kinda liked intro to Escaflowne, but I think I found a acoustic and piano version somewhere... it was really nice, less synthetic loud tones.

Gravity was also quite good (I like Maaya Saakamoto... I think she did this one)... but I might be partial since Wolf's Rain was really interesting... and good.

Intro to Witch Hunter Robin (it's been a while since I saw the series, but I still hear it and love it).

Hmm... lots of Yoko Kanno's stuff... especially some of the more solemn songs in Earth Girl Arjuna or Macross Plus.

Finally, pretty much any song in the pre-Ghibli or Ghibli films that Joe Hisashi orchestrated. I especially liked My Neighbor Totoro's opening (hey! A guy can like a kid's movie!) and Requiem for Nausicaa.

I think she is the one hell of a singer, really good at expressing emotions in a song, and of course coupled with Yoko Kanno's excellent song compositions.

Other constant faves include the rest of the Escaflowne ost and most of Yoko Kanno's works.

Initial D's "Kimigairu" , Ghost in the Shell's "Making of cyborg" and Chobit's "Ningyohime" are also great stuff.

if I had to pick 5, I'd go with, in no particular order, Dragon Drive Opening (True) for its intensity and energy, Ghost in the Shell's Tachikoma Mini-album tracks "spotter" and "FAX me" for smooth and good flow and for well-executed creativity, respectively, DNAngel's "the Gentle Afternoon" for no particular reason, and something from Hikaru No Go -- but I'm not sure which track from there.

Come to think of it, just toss the whole HNG OST 1-2-3 combo on there and call it a song and I'll be happy.

I guess I'll post in this mammoth of a topic. Fave OP? Ultra Relax from Kodomo no Omacha. I couldn't listen to it on end, but it has stood the passage of time. I'm afraid I have no real favorite ending themes, because anime songs are in and out as the series finishes. That, and my favorite songs are either not anime, classic american rock, occaisonal jpop, or japanese rock. But now that I think about it.. I have no real favorite songs.... I guess I'm really fickle...

I noticed allot of people here like classic OP or fairly new OP. Its quite interesting to see the gaps between generations of anime fans. :)

My favorite song would have to be from Gundam Wing. If you haven't heard Last Impression by Two-Mix, you're definitely missing out. Some of her other great songs featured in Gundam Wing were Rhythm Emotion, Rhythm Generation, White Reflection, Endless Love, and Burning. She's a great Jpop artist. One worth checking out. :)

It's not hard for me at all.
Favourite intro is Escaflowne (Yakusoku wa Iranai), brings me to tears. Almost. At least if I'm tired after watching anime all night. I'm going to use it for romantic purposes this Valentine's day.

Favourite outro is the first Naruto ending. It's compelling in it's own way. Also with the clever use of colors and images of Naruto and the butterfly it sets a somewhat different mood from most of the episodes. For me, it really keeps the whole series in perspective, balancing the character Naruto and making me care about him. :)

Record of Lodoss War also has great music, overall.

Hmm, if I had to pick one that was the least likely to be just a temporary obsession influenced by whatever I've been watching, then I'd probably go with the second ending theme from GTO. It's called "Shizuku" by Miwako Okuda... just beautiful.

Funny thing is, I do have a favorite:

Ranma 1/2 OVA - Ranma to Akane no Barado OVA version (Ranma and Akane's Ballad, the ending song)

It helps that the first season of Ranma is a masterpiece and was my favorite anime for many years (until I saw Kodomo no Omocha and then the YKK manga and animes). The song is beautiful, a duet sung by talented seiyuu for Ranma and Akane, and ends with a big crescendo with a full choir... gorgeous. The lyrics also sum up the clumsy but sweet emotions of love they feel for each other... reminding me of the emotions evoked by that wonderful anime. :) I often find myself singing this song for no reason.
