View Full Version : Romance anime
Hello! :)
I'm looking for a good romance/comedy/action (especially romance) anime with an interesting plot, good art, decent with happy ending. Anime that made you cry.
So far I've seen:
Bokura ga ita
Nana
Paradise kiss
Lovely complex
Air
Fruits basket
Ouran high school
Hanbun no tsuki ga noboru sora
Fate/Stay night
Voices of a distant star
5 centimeters per second
I would appreciate if you could also give some details. Thank you very much!:D

defiantly watch kanon 2006. clannad is pretty good, and it is currently airing. i suggest also Welcome to the NHK. All these animes aren't necessarily romances, but they are pretty heartwarming. Code Geass has a lot of action, but also incorporates a love story, you should check it out also

Midori no Hibi, comedy, romance, "some" action. It has a very weird plot, about how his right hand turns into the girl that liked him for so long and such
its pretty funny too, and sad at times, worth watching.
Saikano, i really enjoyed this one, this one has action, and romance, its a tradegy type anime.
Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, very similiar to Saikano, with action and romance. This one is a sad one too
I'll second Kanon and Clannad. There's no ending for Clannad, so you'll have to take a risk there. If I recall correctly, both are made by the same group that does Air. Basically school life, comedy, with a touch of the supernatural and romance.
Seto no Hanoyama will make you laugh with tears and it's a romance anime, does that count. :heh:

I feel obligated to second Saikano, the whole last half of the anime makes you want to cry. I will also suggest Kimi ga Nozomu Eien as another Romance/Drama that will leave you in tears. I feel obligated to tell you that neither of these have "happy" endings, but both are definitely worth watching anyway.
Honey and Clover is full of romance and comedy. There're more than one couples and you do get the bittersweet love-triangle. Despite the comedy part, it does an excellent job exploring love and security, as well as other issues that young adults face such as uncertainty and recklessness.
Watch Rumbling Hearts/KGNE for one that is more mature than most.

For comedy romance anime - Seto no Hanayome / Midori no Hibi (18+ please, nudity)
For fantastical romance anime - Kanon 2006
For mature(Not much jabs here and there, serious) romance anime - Kimi ga Nozomu Eien
KGNE/Rumbling Hearts has it's comedy moments... it's just horribly out of place imo.
I forgot to add DN Angel.
I recommend I My Me Strawberry Eggs and Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru. Both of them had interesting plots, good art, happy endings that would make you cry.

So, listing things like Fate/Stay Night, I have no idea what you mean by a happy ending... because that really did not end happily. So, I'll ignore that clause and suggest romance anime that made me cry.
Final Approach - I only cried once, and it's not really sad. Very short.
Chrono Crusade - Not generally happy, but excellent anyway. Also not "romance themed" - romance between the main characters is integral to the story, but it is more action/fantasy/drama.
Koi Kaze - Unusual romance. Incredibly good series, unless you are repulsed by it.
Rozen Maiden - Again, very unusual and touching romance.
Rec - Short and sweet, not depressing. Much more realistic than most.
Da Capo - first roughly 10 episodes are sub-par character development, then the plot starts, and becomes good.
Asatte no Houkou - Very touching romance.
Kanon, by the way, is good... but bear in mind that it is harem (like Tenchi Muyo, Love Hina, etc), which is a little different than romance, in that it could go any way.
Thank you all very much for your suggestions! So many animes. :D These sound interesting and I'll probably watch: Rec, Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru, DN Angel, Honey and Clover, Seto no Hanayome and Midori no Hibi.
By the way I watched the first episode of Kanon and I like it. Arigato!:)

I second Clannad, Kanon, and REC. If you've watched Voices of a Distant Star and 5 Centimeters per Second, then maybe you'd like to watch The Place Promised in Our Early Days.

I would not say that Kanon is a romance it has hints of it but it seemed the main character just liked everyone.
If you want romance then choose Ai Yori Aoishi Best romance anime around.
