I just played FF 11 at my uncles house yesterday.... it's pretty cool ..... MMPRPG game ( Massive Multiplayer RPG ) ..... the game cost around $79.99 can and like $20 a month (us) to play online...... the graphics are really good but the price is very expensive........ i'm in high school and i don't have a work........ if i had one i might get it ..... but $20/month is expensive without allowance and job...... so waht do you think about the FF 11 game that came out on Oct 31??
damnit i forgot to make a poll...... how do i add a poll??
Consider editing your post to make it more readable. I have such high expectations for FFXI, but darn stupid ¤%"#¤%#¤ europe always gets things like this last...wait USA...Forse is coming

I was really looking forward to getting into beta, but I never got accepted. :( It is really expensive so I'll probably wait for its price to go down. I'm currently trying to get into Linage II (http://www.lineage2.com) Beta because it looks and plays similar to FFXI.

Post a link to some where so i can see how it looks like for the pc.
I think they should stop making FF when they did number 8.
It is just as Friday the 13:th and Freddy Krouger or however he spells it.
mad cat: the franchise itself should of been shorter, and should of ended at 7
I've been playing MMORPGs since Ultima Online first came out, then EQ, AC, DAoC, AO (bleh), SWG (double-bleh), now FFX!. Here's my take on it for what it is... as it isnt a true FF rpg as seen on consoles.
I like it so far. It's great how they set up the class/job system, and there are plenty of classes that intrest me enough to keep playing. The graphics are the best Ive seen in any MMORPG (the character creation process had me "ooo-ing and aah-ing), and the leveling goes smooth, even when soloing. The only gripe I have is with the controls, not being able to configure your keyboard setup makes things a bit awkward at first, and the third person camera floats behind you instead of being in a locked position.
Then there's the whole "World Pass" thing (having the need for one to choose which server to play on), but after I realized how cheap they are to buy in-game, it really isnt that big of a deal.. just a bad design.
The game itself actually costs $50 and $12.95 per month after the free trial month (plus $1 added for every additional character you create after your initial one - USD). I have no idea where the original poster got his prices :twitch: . Look here (http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/shop/).
Oh yeah... and then there's the cat-girls...

well it's $74.99 for the game (price from FUTURE SHOP)........ i did put in brackets CAN ..... well i didn't put brackets but i put can for canadian dollars......... and my uncle said he pays $20 probably again $20 in CANADIAN....... those prices are in american stores so......... maybe thats why it's cheaper......
Ah, gomen. All I saw was the "(us)". Must be expensive to be a gamer up north.

I would love to try this game, but pay for the service, no thank you. If it was free to play online, or some flat rate, it would justify it. Damn, if you want to charge me to PLAY your game, atleast give the game itself out for free or reduced cost, know what I mean?
When you buy the box itself, that $50 only covers the cost of making what you get.. the initial program, CDs, the packaging, the books.. all the expenses that other games have plus enough for the company to turn a profit.
Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games are different though. They're like living organisms.. starve that organism from new content, customer support, hardware/software maintenance/upgrades, and those people whose job it is to perform these tasks that need to get paid for a living (everything that monthly fees pay for), the players will leave. When the players leave, the monthly fees dry up and the organism dies. Which forces them to keep the game interesting and fun. It's not like the companies are saying "Hey, we're greedy bastards! They buy the game and we make money, so let's just charge them more money each month to play the same game! Muahaha!"
If you have ever played EverQuest when it first came out, you would know that it has changed alot (for better or for worse is a matter of opinion), and they were able to expand and improve it to what it is today because they could afford to do it through the monthly fee.
Just be happy they give you a free trial month so if you dont like it, you dont have to pay for it... you just need to take that leap of faith and spend the $50 (or so) to buy the game to try it in the first place (or be lucky enough to get into the beta and try it for free). Few games I buy last a month after I beat them anyway.
Plus this is a good way to keep all the little kewl dewd kiddies from getting in the game and ruining it for those of us that are there to enjoy ourselves... having it cost them money tends to keep them at bay, well at least those without mommy and daddy's credit card in their back pocket. Those are the ones that usually get banned. :D

You wanted to add a poll. Sorry, but only a moderator can add a poll to an already existing thread. How's this one?

This is of course the most debated topic on MMORPGs. I think that games should do a system similar to Shattered Galaxy which recently started charging nothing to play online but gives advantages to people that do choose to play. Kinda like that EQ server that costs like $40.00 a month.
Of course, most of the gaming world will be focused on HL2 and its mods whenever it finally comes out. And from what I hear about the Source Engine, its fully possible to make an RPG mod even better than the RPG mod-making abilities of Neverwinter Nights.
With so many MMORPGs coming out and so many out already, its amazing how the developers can think they will make a huge profit from it.. (besides Sony that is). What will happen when there are so many MMORPGs that only a few actually make money?

See, I do understand, why the costs and such. Maintaining the game online DOES cost money, and lots of it, as do the package and such to the content of the game. But monthly fees i just don't like, what if a month you don't play all the much, thats just a waste. IF they provided a set fee, such as bimonthly, to every 6 months, that would be a little better. Or as such, if they had more online games, provide a fee for the entire service to those games, rather then just one. $20 a month for a game sure is alot, especially if you might not like it. But I think they include a 3 month sub for free, so in that sense its cool.
I would like it to have some offline content, with simulated "users" to play with, thus you wouldn't be forced to play online if you cannot afford to do so.

Playing the PS2 beta was enough to make me dislike the game. I was pretty disapointed and there's no way I would be $20/month for that.
They will keep charging monthly fees as long as enough of the players out there are willing to pay them... and there are plenty that are (*raises hand*). The whole paying for an entire service for multiple games is basically what Sony has done... making it cheaper to play EQ, PlanetSide, and EQ2 (when it eventually comes out) per month as one package... although I wouldnt know anyone with that much time on their hands. Also, alot of the games do offer a bulk-month discount (costing less for a 6-month subscription than it would cost for 6 consecutive 1 month fees). The options are out there, but with so many companies delving into this genre, they vary from resonable to ridiculous for some. Heck, I refuse to even buy the modem for my PS2 when I can get all of the online lovin' I need from the PC.
Usually if something's free.. it isnt worth the price. [/pun]

This is true, however..what will happen when there are so many MMORPGs that some or many of them will not be able to maintain their costs? Maintaining those massive servers is extremely expensive..and with so many games coming out the players will continue to thin out over many games (except a few such as EQ2) then what will happen to the games that can't afford the maintainance costs?
For instance, Dragon Empires has like no publicity. I cant even remember what company is producing it without looking it up. How are they going to afford to keep the game running if only 1000 or less people play it? Same with a lot of upcoming small-name MMORPGs. Will they just have to declare bankruptcy and tell their few loyal players that they have to permanently shut down?
I really wouldn't complain so much about MMORPGs if it weren't for the fact that in a few years we'll have probably over 40 of them trying to run at the same time. And then you can probably add another 30 from other countries such as Germany and Korea. With so many games there wont be enough willing-to-pay gamers to spread around, and it will be highly unbalanced (Sony will probably hold around 60-70% of the MMORPG fanbase in America).
That is what's called "thinning of the herd" or more appropriately "survival of the fittest". If the game is good it will keep it's user base, pure and simple. I, myself, have quit EverQuest three times over the years to go and play other MMORPGs. Mainly due to burn-out playing the same thing over and over (although enjoyable, it does get old), or other Real Life issues that took priority. Yet the new content (expansions) gave me a reason to come back; and all of my RL friends that play and those I've meet in-game gave me a reason to stay.
It's a sad fact that the smaller companies will only stand a small chance in staying afloat if they go up against Sony or Blizzard; even if they have a superior product (DAoC is one success story among several that have failed). Market saturation is something the gaming world has known for quite some time. One company comes up with a great product and next thing you know there are 50 other clones of the same thing out within a year. It's up to us as the consumers to choose where to spend our money, and which games to support. If the quality isnt there, the customers wont be. The winners have enough customers to keep going. Those that cant swim, drown.

I was happy when I knew that players could play online in FFXI . But I was disapointed when I was watching the Live Cam . You know , just a FEW players running around , some of them were standing, the scene , color were so poor . It's nothing more than the original FF . Probadly I'll wait untill they release a better one .

Who would pay $20/month ON TOP of an existing ISP fee??????
Who would pay $20/month ON TOP of an existing ISP fee??????
*raise hand*
The game is pretty neat (my friends playing it) but theres no consentual PVP in yet (I know they say its coming but in all MMORPG history soon never meant soon), If theres no PVP I wont be able to be interested after a while ( im a powergame so I lvl fast).
Me and my guild are still waiting for WoW, soon, soon
Also, keep in mind that is $20 Canadian... $12.95 US (which is on par with EQ, DAoC, and all the other MMORPGs out there). It helps if you get a paycheck at the end of every week.
And like one poster commented, EverQuest has a premium service where people pay $40 (US) a month to play with added benefits. While that's where I draw the line, alot of my old guild members jumped over to Stormhammer as fast as they could. I just didnt like EQ that much.
I'm with you though Imazul, FFXI is just a good way to pass the time until WoW comes out. High hopes for that one.

The game was pretty good when i player it but started getting boring since i was able to beta test the game plus $20 a month is a fair price to play online with the game unlike EQ but i wonder how long it will stay popular since blizzard is making world of warcraft which is also MMORPG. The game is supposedly going to be way better then EQ since there will be less amount of play hours needed to complete quests unlike EQ.

What kind of added benefits did that premium service offer for freakin $40 a month? Is there any plan to offer that kind of service for FFXI?
Heh, it's pretty sad really. The premium service allows your character to move to the Premium Server named Stormhammer. On this server players are able to try out new zones, items, encounters, quests and spells several weeks before the rest of the live servers do. On top of that, they get "special" treatment from the GMs in the form of events that can land your character some pretty nice loot (There are a few other perks, but nothing really worth posting about).
The sad part is, "back in the day" all of the live servers used to be like this... GM Events, getting to play with the new content as soon as it was available, etc. I guess Sony just thought it was too much work (or not as cost efficient) to have these kind of things on all the servers, so they just made a special "club" that you had to pay almost three times as much as you normally would to be allowed in the tree house. :eyespin:
This is the main reason I refused to jump on the bandwagon... I was playing back when things like this were common place and now they wanted to me to pay out the ying-yang for the same thing they offered me for $9.99 (what EQ actually used to cost per month in the beginning). Yet enough people bit the worm and got reeled over to Stormhammer with glee. Mostly those that felt the need to be "elite" by playing there... we only thought they were fools. :D
I very much doubt that FFXI would go this route anytime in the foreseeable future.. they simply dont have the same sized player base EQ does to pull this kind of stunt, nor would they need to. The game is fun how it is already, making people pay an outrageous price for "extras" would just turn them off to the game entirely at this point.

I really think FF XI is worth the money. But i dont know all the details on the payment system. I live in the netherlands, and i know that the game costs 79 euro, and you need to pay something mothly. Who knows exactly what i have 2 pay? and in what way, credit card or something, i am 16, what idiot gives me a creditcard? :P
I'm tooo broke to pay monthly just to play online. I hate having to pay to play monthly for a game you already paid like $50 to buy in the first place not to mention the hardware needed to be able to play online. If there were 7-10 games that I liked that required a monthly payment to play online... then I'd have to work a 2nd job just to play video games... or give up my cell phone... EEEEKKKKK!! Can't do that... don't have a home phone as it is already. Charging for online game play is a big turn off for me. So I guess my broke @$$ is just gonna stick to the regular games on the PS2 for now till I can afford otherwise. :(
