I just want to mention that I will very much appreciate everyone's help, but at this point in time, I don't have anything for you guys to do. Basically what I have right now are a bunch of sketches that may or may not end up being sprites.

Essentially, the process of creating the sprites (and the characters in CGs) is as follows: I sketch the character out. This is a very loose sketch just to get the idea of pose, proportion, and whatnot. Next, I go over the sketch on a new layer and smooth out the lines a lot. This is the stage where most of the problems are fixed, and details are added. After the outlines are looking nice, I start laying down the base colors under the lines. I'll have to sit down and work out a design bible for this so we're all using the same colors. I'd also like to point out that, in order to ease up the process of shading, I like to put each different color on a separate layer. Finally, the shadows are applied. I use two layers of shadow, and apply it with a fuzzy brush to make sure they're nice and smooth. And what I just typed up in a few minutes, and what took you probably a shorter amount of time to read, takes me about 8-10 hours start to finish, and that's not even including the backgrounds and CGs. So you can see why a team of people will help out a lot. Even if just one person picks up one of the steps, you're saving me many, many hours of work. :)

Also of note, if we're following the style of my sig, the lines will have to be colored according to the color under it. For example, The outlines around Kyonko's hair would be a darker shade of brown, while the outlines around her uniform's skirt would be done in a dark blue. We'll probably want the sprites to be fairly interchangeable. It's possible that only a few bodies will be needed for any one character, with the heads being different based on expressions/looking around, so this can potentially ease things up for us.

I'll probably do one sprite from start to finish, and then use it to make some tutorials and instructions for anyone that may need them. When the time comes, I'll be asking what versions of what image editing software everyone will be using, so I can format the tutorials as needed, get a better idea of how I need to format things, and so I know what jobs everyone will be best suited for.

But I do get that there tend to be more artists than composers around, too, so yeah. Composers are really hard to find.

There are communities full of wonderful composers, and musicians out there on the internet. The difficult part is pitching this bizarre and insane seitenkan idea to them. :heh:

About the list of prioritys, I agree with Danchou that is harder work at Ren'py without images then without songs. To be able to visiualize what you are doing, the images are essential in early stage. You can't do much without then. You need position then, give any, modify then, give then any effect might want... The musics and sound effects, by the other side, just need to be said where it begins and where it stops, maybe with how much time to fade into the begining or to end. Ren'Py can work (more or less) as a image editor, but not as a sound editor.

That being said, I would agree that the image are, yes, more important then the sound. However, this don't mean we should ignore the matter. After all, most composers probably aren't good drawing/editing images. So, working at sond/musics won't slow down the drawing, both can be worked at same time. Of course Danchou might not have the time to supervise both works (plus any other thing he already does), so he would priorize the drawing for now, the same for any other who is working in both sides of the projects.

While in that matter, I would say that, as a programmer, the sprites would be apprecizted. Background image in general don't really matter for the coding, any image at the same size can be used as a replace. Sprites, however, are more irregular, so it is better having then to be possible work with then proprialy (even simple things as zoon and positioning are hard without them). However, more important then that would be Canada's sprite control. Anyway, there is no hurry with that. I am kinda stoped now, due to some problems with College and PC, and so are the rest of the team. If everything go well, however, I (and, hopefully, the team) might back to work next week.

Oh, yeah, there is another job we are need people. I don't know if it is necessery so soon in the development, but we need designers. Not the same as the artists who work in the sprites, CGs and backgrounds, we need someone to think and make the basic appearance of the game. The text box, menus and the text itself (with font, size, etc).

I can manage that side for now too, until someone comes along that's better at graphic design. I imagine you guys are able to work with the engine without needing fancy text boxes for now, though, so I haven't made it any kind of priority. Basically, if it comes down to it and we still don't have anyone that can manage it, I'll add it to my list of things to do, or hand it off to one of the people on my "team".

Oh, don't worry to much with that comentary. As you said, it isn't really a priority. I just commented because no one did mentioned it and it is a pretty important point. A lot of people seens to be know how to edit images and work at photoshop, but few how to draw, so I tought some might be able to do that.

Anyway, yeah, it isn't necessery for programing. Exept for the greentext font/size. We need it to finish the rant at Mitsuuru's scene at the first day. But we don't need finish it now, so, don't worry about that.

You know, I seem to recall Haruhi having a very Uncle Sam-ish pose... why didn't you just modify that rather than drawing it from scratch? :heh: Actually, Jovi, that can be the next thing I'll have you do.

Ah well. The text of the image looks great. We'll definitely be using that, yes.

...Random fact: The name "Uncle Sam" originates from "United States of America", believe it or not. (U.S.Am.)

Kind of a random change of topic but...

If you could sum up Suzumiya Haruhi no Seitenkan in one simple, easy-to-carve symbol/image, what would it be?

The reason I ask is because my house's annual pumpkin carving event is coming up, and I am definitely carving one, but lack for a subject. This year, I thought, "hey, why not Seitenkan?" The obvious image is Kyonko or Haruki, but I'm not quite sure how that could work (or not end up looking completely generic). I'm no pumpkin-carving pro, but I do pretty well. This is totally going to be loads of fun.

So what says "Seitenkan" to you?

roankun

you need a composer? wait. you guys are doing a game?????
*is totally surprised*

well... i'm not sure what i can do, but i'll try to help. no good in art though.

P.s. about kyon's image... this might sound kinda weird... or maybe not... but...
kyonko looks a LOT like haruhi. and for that matter haruki looks a LOT like kyon. only a bit more macho with a headband and no spiky bangs and half-lidded eyes. but kyonko really, REALLY looks like haruhi before she got a haircut. and they're pretty much the same height... so why not use haruhi (long hair image) for kyonko's, and kyon's for haruhi's?

P.P.s. yuuki STILL doesnt look like yuki. bookworms are usually short and thin (to me).

if you say gender bender... the first thing that comes to mind is the gender image? you know... the one that kinda looks like a key and is colored blue and pink? i dunno if you could do that on a pumpkin though.

Visual novel. One I'm very much looking forward to.

And, uh, I think Kyonko looks like long-haired Haruhi because they both have long, brown hair? And Haruki doesn't look much like Kyon to me.

And alternate character interpretation and all that. Whatever.

roankun
2009-10-21, 05:54
yeah... i guess that's pretty much it... and yeah, haruki doesn't... i guess... the face isn't most definitely, since kyon's face is... longer and haruhi's is more... circular???

anyway, it was just a thought.

and, it's a visual novel right? how are they gonna make the game? i mean, are they gonna release it as a pc game or something? and... would it be available for us? ^_^

Yes, I think (THINK) they're using the Ren'py engine, which is open-source.

I don't know much about Project Crossroads, but wouldn't it be released via download?

Heatth

We can't sell the game, so, yes, it is via download. And, yes, it is using Ren'py.

Anyway, the Uncle Sam-like image Kaisos is talking about is the full version of Danchou's avatar, right?

Oh, roankun, good you can help. But I guess it would be usefull know how. As it was said, what we are needing now is someone who can (and, preferably, good at) use an image editor or a music editor. An actual composer would be even better, tough I guess someone who can just mix anime musics would be ok.

To add to that, despite Haruhi being the titular character, Kyon's the narrator. I tend to think of him as the main character because we, as the audience, are experiencing what he has experienced. Kyonko works the same way for this. Also, females sell better. :p

Heatth

I agree with you, Kyon is the true protagonist. (Haruhi is more like an antagonist in early books).

I can understand why so much focus on Kyonko, like Kyon, she is the protagonist, but she has also the same "role" as Haruhi, being the pretty face who "sell" the project. I almost pitty Haruki, he don't have the charm.

Anyway, I was just commenting I didn't payed muc attention on her. Curiously, I was more iterested on the men (Yuuki, Ryou and Mitsuuru).

Thank Binjovi for the image guys. Really.

But really, Kyonko doesn't need to be moe-whored out at every opportunity. She's a good female lead. I mean really. Why the hell does every female lead have to be moe'd out? I don't even know what the hell I'm saying. All I know is I just watched the most disgusting videos in my life and now I have indigestion. Jesus Christ. I didn't know it was possible for anything other than food to give you indigestion.

She'd be perfectly fine if she were like...Kumatora from Mother 3. Only less so, because she wouldn't have PSI. I'm quite sure only half a person knows what I'm talking about, but Kumatora's an actual tomboy in a Japanese piece of fiction, and not the "hayz i'm a typical female w/ a temper". Hmm... Kyonkotora, eh...? Kumakyonko? Sounds like a shipping. Kyonatora?

Never mind. All I'm trying to say is that what the hell, I think I'm regretting making that banner, Jesus on toast K-ON! is sickening, and Kyonko doesn't need to be moe-whored to be popular.

Now if you'll excuse me, I think the contents of my stomach would like to have a word with me...ugh.

EDIT: Also, while I was initially in it for MOE MOE KYONKO, I stayed for GAR GAR HARUKI and the prospect of Kyonko's moments of awesome.

Our motto is "From MOE to GAR; from GAR to MOE." So all you need is Haruhi and Kyon on one side, seperated by the SOS-Dan symbol, like a crude yinyang symbol. Underneath that, "From MOE to GAR". On the other side, do Haruki and Kyonko; over "From GAR to MOE". There, (nearly) everything about us on a pumpkin shell.

... Ok, was it rather evil to suggest a needlessly complicated design? :heh:

"A shadowed person sits in a very dark room, which is lit only by the light of a tiny, old TV. Currently, the television is tuned into some kind of comedy show."

Shadow A "(Crunch, crunch.) Hahaha, this is bloody hilarious. (Crunch, crunch.)"

"The shadow is eating trail mix."

"Crunch, crunch."

"All of a sudden, there’s another shadow in the room. No flash or bang, just a sudden appearance."

"It would be unsettling, to non-shadows."

Shadow A "Oh hey, you’re back. (Crunch, crunch.) Have fun today?"

Shadow B "Why, exactly, did you go out without me, Number Two? I told you stay inside."

Shadow A "Wait a minute, my (crunch, crunch) show is on. Just wait until it goes to commercial. It’s nearly there anyway."

"A few minutes pass."

"Crunch, crunch."

"Some commercial about a product no one needs lights up the room. The newcomer shadow looks at the television, which mutes itself.

"Gulp."

Shadow A "So, what were we talking about?"

Shadow B "Why you decided to take a walk without telling me."

Shadow A "Ah, you saw. I thought you did."

Shadow B "Explain, please, if you would."

Shadow A "Well, look at it from my (crunch, crunch) perspective. You’re the only one who gets to (crunch, crunch)—"

Shadow B "Stop eating the trail mix or I’ll shove it up a few choice locations."

Shadow A "Yes’m. (Gulp.) You’re the only one getting to have any fun."

Shadow B "So…?"

Shadow A "You’ve also only really been messing around with one of them. How about some (slurp) fair play?"

Shadow B "That’s just how I do things, as you know, Number Two. Do you have a problem with that?"

"A voice like warm ice."

Shadow A "Yeah, actually. The way things are right now, they’re pretty boring. Predictable."

"That's the wrong thing to say, from one shadow to another."

Shadow B "Oh, and you think you could do better?"

Shadow A "Yeah, actually."

Shadow B "…"

Shadow A "Mmm. Fingers still sticky. (Slurp.)"

Shadow B "So, what did you have in mind?"

Shadow A "I’d like to set up a few things of my own. Then, once all the pieces have gathered, then. Then you get to do your thing."

Shadow B "Hmm. Fair enough. I suppose I haven’t really been giving you much free reign, have I? Very well, do as you please. Just don’t interfere with my fun, alright?"

"There is now only one shadow in the room."

"Crunch, crunch."

Shadow A "Don’t think I share your agenda, little miss xxxxxx. I’d like a little insurance if you’re going to continue gambling with the fate of my world. (Crunch, crunch.)"

"The shadow continues to grumble to himself."

Shadow A "Honestly, her and her xxxxxxx is really making me xxxxxx with xxxx and xxxxxx. If she wants to xxxxxx she can just xxxxxx while xxxxxx while she xxxxxxxx and I xxxxxxxxxx. (Crunch, crunch.) Oh, my show’s on."

"The shadow nods at the television, which regains the ability to speak."

Shadow A "(Crunch, crunch.) Hahaha, this never gets old. Hahahaha (crunch, crunch) hahahahahaaa!"

"Crunch, crunch."

"Gulp."

"Slurp."

INTERLUDE END

You sorta... jumped tenses in the middle. I switched it all to present, lemme know if you want it changed back.

Also, "The shadow nods at the television, which regains the ability to speak.
Umm... what?

The Power of Love (I)

Kyonko "Why are we in a love hotel!?"

"Wait, no, I can answer that one myself."

"Itsuko and I had been loitering around the school, avoiding the gazes of suspicious teachers and trying to think of something to do when Nagato had suddenly appeared."

Yuuki "A way to contact our original universe has been discovered."

Kyonko "Nagato, just to be clear on what you mean, could you try reconstructing that sentence in the first person?"

Yuuki "…I have discovered a way to contact our original universe."

Itsuko "How is that, exactly?"

"It turned out that Nagato needed an internet-capable computer, a monitor, speakers, and a few hours to set his system up."

Yuuki "A cable capable of connecting myself and the computer will also be neededTwo cables will be needed: one to connect the computer and myself and another to connect the computer to the wall.

Kyonko "…I don’t think we have cables capable of connecting between human beings and electronic devices, Nagato."

Itsuko "Ah, but Nagato-san isn’t human, is he? Will an ordinary crossover cable do?"

Yuuki "……That should be sufficient."

Kyonko "Um. Okay, so, I think Asahina-senpai had some money on him… will you go with him to buy one of those? Itsuko and I will try to find a computer within the school building, I guess…"

Itsuko "We will meet up at our usual café near Kitaguchi Station this evening, then."

"We did actually manage to find one, lonely, old computer, in a clubroom that was equally old, lonely, and deserted."

Kyonko "You think this thing’ll even work? For that matter, could you even get Internet on it if it does work?"

Itsuko "Well, it is not plugged into the wall, but… all the proper cabling is here, and there’s even a router…"

Kyonko "It still looks like it’s falling apart. And the monitor’s ancient, too… wouldn’t it be a better idea just to steal the one in the Brigade clubroom?"

Itsuko "Ah, I do not think we should interfere too much with the denizens of this world."

Kyonko "So what, we’re following the Prime Directive now?"

Itsuko "I’m serious. Please, if you meet any of our other selves, do not tell them who you are. We don’t want to overtly influence anything."

Kyonko "But… you already told this world’s version of your /“Agency/”."

Itsuko "That’s different. They know how to keep secrets."

Kyonko "…Okay, but… what about this old hunk of crap we’re about to steal?"

Itsuko "This would fall under the, ah, Desperate Times Clause."

Kyonko "…Right."

"We waited inside the room for school to end. No point in being caught in the rush to get to clubs."

Kyonko "…I was just thinking. Why are we even stealing this?"

Itsuko "Hmm?"

Kyonko "Couldn’t the Agency just… give you a brand-new computer?"

Itsuko "…Well, I’ll put it this way. They don’t exactly trust me."

Kyonko "…Okay. Next question, why are we taking this outside of the school, anyway? Couldn’t we set up the system in here?"

Itsuko "Nagato-san said he’d need several hours… The school closes eventually, does it not?"

Kyonko "And we needed to go outside anyway for materials, so it’s easier this way?"

Itsuko "Yes, and, besides, I’m constantly getting the distinct feeling that I’m being watched. …The after-school rush seems to have died down. Shall we go somewhere where eyes are not on us?"

"When we tried to transport the computer downstairs, one of my legs suddenly stopped working, and I dropped the massive CRT monitor I was carrying, smashing it into pieces."

"Needless to say, a new plan had to be formulated."

"We decided to steal an easier-to-carry monitor from the Computer Research Society."

"Obviously we couldn’t just walk in and demand a monitor… knowing what happened in my world, I’m sure we’d resurface bad memories if we did so."

"So instead we just walked in and said /“hi/”."

"Itsuko’s only instructions to me beforehand were a) to slip away when they were distracted, and b) that she’d meet me at the school gate. That didn’t make much sense until after she went up to their President and whispered something in his ear that made his eyes bug out."

"…I don’t want to know what she offered to do, but we led the entire club to the back of the school. Itsuko… I won’t say what she did to distract them, it’s too…. Argh… but it gave me the chance to run back to their clubroom."

---
IF MissingShoes = False AND Thief = True THEN

"However, I managed to run into my male self along the way. And by /“run into/”, I mean literally."

"However… rather than brushing me off like I thought he would, (given his earlier behavior) he actually helped me steal the monitor.

"I only had to pay him seventy yen for it, too! …Although that was all the money I had, after buying lunch."

"…The Computer Society, however, chased us all the way out of the school, to where Itsuko wasn’t waiting for me."

"I told my other self he could go, but… for some reason, he stayed with me the whole way, and even carried the monitor all the way down the hill for me."

"Hell, he even biked me all the way to the café where we had agreed to meet earlier."

"We only managed to narrowly escape the wrath of the Computer Society President, but… it was actually a lot of fun, somehow."

"…I laughed harder than I’d laughed in a long time. I’m kind of offended he never even asked for my name, though."

"……Why did he help me? Is it only because I’m a girl?"

"Yeah, that has to be it, right? I’d certainly never help a person I barely knew."

"But… that would mean I’m… attracted to myself…?"

"…ARGH."

"Anyway!"

---

IF MissingShoes = False AND Samaritan = False THEN

"However, I managed to run into my male self along the way. And by /“run into/”, I mean literally."

"Predictably, he just waved me off, leaving me on the ground. Asshole."

"I managed to get the monitor to the front gate. Itsuko wasn’t there."

"I managed to find her near the bottom of the hill, near the bike racks, waiting by a taxi."

Itsuko "I apologize. They became very angry with me, and I had to grab the computer, the peripherals, and run away."

Kyonko "It’s fine. …This your usual ride? This world’s version, I mean?"

Itsuko "No, I’m afraid it is only an ordinary taxi."

Kyonko "Ordinary, huh?"

---

ELSE

"The operation was pulled off without a hitch. Unless you consider Itsuko not being at the meeting place a hitch."

---

"In this way, I arrived at the café. Asahina-senpai looked particularly glad to see me."

Itsuko "So, let’s see. Is this all the hardware you need, Nagato-san?"

Yuuki "Sufficient."

Itsuko "Ah, good. I wouldn’t want to go back there for a while."

"Asahina-senpai was hard at work peeling the covering off of one end of the yellow crossover cable, which had been cut for some reason."

Mitsuuru "How did you two get this, anyway? You said you found the, uh, box—"

Itsuko "It is normally referred to as a /“tower/” I believe."

Mitsuuru "The box abandoned in an empty clubroom, but this screen looks brand new."

"I buried my head in my hands."

Kyonko "I don’t want to talk about it. Please."

Itsuko "Yes, now, the question is, where are we going to set this up?"

Mitsuuru "Yeah, that’s what I was wondering. We’re getting stares enough as it is, with you two lugging that stuff in here."

"And you playing with some cable doesn’t look slightly odd, Asahina-senpai?"

Kyonko "Um, well, we need somewhere with an outlet and an internet connection… somewhere that’s open right now and would put up with us for a few hours… I’d say a hotel, but they don’t let rooms hourly, and I don’t think we could afford a room anyway…"

"Itsuko’s smile suddenly grew very large."

Itsuko "I have a place in mind we could go to. But first, let’s get dinner. I hear this place serves wonderful pasta, and I believe Nagato-san still has some money left…"

"Nagato nods."

"After a delicious meal, we made our way to Itsuko’s /“place in mind/”."

"(I believe this is about where you came in.)"

Mitsuuru "No."

Itsuko "But they have a discount for large groups! We’ll be able to afford renting a room for a few hours this way."

Mitsuuru "N-no, I am in no way going into a love hotel with you three. What if someone sees?"

Itsuko "No one is going to care. No one on this side knows who we are, remember?"

"I had been unable to respond up until this point out of sheer shock."

Kyonko "I agree with Asahina-senpai! I’m not going in there. I refuse. I absolutely refuse."

Mitsuuru "Yes! Listen to her!"

Itsuko "Oh? Can you think of anywhere else that rents by the hour, and has a discount rate?"

Kyonko "Spuh. I... Fine."

"H-how did you even know about this place?"

Itsuko "I know lots of things. <3 Come on, don’t be shy. Desperate times, remember."

"The receptionist, an older woman trying to look young, smiled at us knowingly when we entered. Don’t give me that look, you old hag."

"This place is poorly-maintained and covered in cheap pink. Ugh. I don’t hate pink, but when every damn thing in the room is that color…"

"Itsuko managed to negotiate us a room for four hours (argh!) and we finally made it inside and somewhere relatively quiet."

"Ugh. More pink. At least there’s a shower, which I’m starting to feel I need to get rid of an oncoming migraine. But, of course, the bathroom walls are transparent."

"What a stereotypical love hotel. This could be part of a franchise."

Kyonko "Why are we in a love hotel!?"

"No, this was where you came in.)"

"Itsuko and Mitsuuru were beginning to set up the computer."

Itsuko "Lucky for us, this place has an in-house internet connection. It’s mostly used for wireless connections, but simply plugging this into the phone jack should work."

Mitsuuru "…Um… what’s a phone jack?"

Itsuko "Never you mind, I’ll do it all myself."

"And, eventually, miraculously, the machine sputtered to life."

"WxNDOWS 95."

"What a piece of junk…. "

Itsuko "Internet is hooked up as well. So, ah, what are the plans for that crossover cable?"

"That’s what I was about to ask."

"Nagato took the exposed end of the cable and… rolling up his sleeve, he shoved it into his lower arm. Into the veins."

[Totally need a CG for this]

"…"

"He held up the other end of the cable."

Yuuki "Plug this in."

"I obliged him, plugging it into the router computer."

Mitsuuru "Okay. That was disgusting. That can’t possibly—"

Yuuki "Connecting. Dialing… Dialing…"

"You run on dial-up?!"

Itsuko "…Well, I never said it was a decent Internet connection."

Kyonko "Oh."

"We waited for over three hours in that incredibly pink room, hearing Nagato's /"dialing, dialing/" over and over again. I thought I was going to go nuts."

"And then, finally."

Yuuki "Connection established. Transference of data completed."

Mitsuuru "...Huh. I didn’t think that would ever work...."

Yuuki "Displaying information onscreen."

"Suddenly, the monitor displayed what looked to be the interior of a small, inexpensive apartment."

"Displayed in the corner of the screen were, in Roman characters, /“EMORI K./” "

Kyonko "…We did it."

Editted in the results of our discussion about the Yuuki/Computer/Internet thing.

To refresh, it's working as such now: Yuuki is using the computer's processor to boost his own processing ability, which allows for very limited reality hacking. He then is slowly hacking into other systems on the Tokyo WAN, which is allowing him to do some cloud computing for slightly better reality hacking (though still nowhere near his normal ability, as Earth Computers < Yuuki's processing power and there's still a finite limit to the data transference speed across the WAN). However, over the course of the three hours he manages to get enough done that he's able to dimension hack and establish contact with Emori.

The Search

Grunt 1 "We’re still not picking up anything."

"Two men in military uniform sat at desk, discussing amongst themselves."

Grunt 2 "I know the PDT System is still experimental, but the first time they tested it, it definitely worked."

"The space on this desk was taken up by what looked very similar to an old telephone switchboard, except that it was not old, but sleek and new. The military grunts were hard at work flipping switches, punching buttons, and reading printouts."

Grunt 1 "Well, that might be because they were only able to test it by tracking people in Closed Space."

Grunt 2 "And that’s only because the Brains can’t figure out how to slide yet."

Grunt 1 "Yeah, they can’t even get teleportation down."

Grunt 2 "Harder than it sounds."

Grunt 1 "Still, Closed Space is still part of our own universe, right?"

Grunt 2 "No one really knows."

Grunt 1 "So maybe that’s why we can’t track her down at all. The PDT doesn’t actually work."

Grunt 2 "Don’t say that, or the last three hours will all have been a huge waste."

Grunt 1 "Speaking of Closed Space… did you HEAR what happened at the main HQ?"

Grunt 2 "…Yeah. I heard. I saw the building, actually. Completely destroyed. All the people on the upper floors are missing, probably dead, and most of those on the lower floors are at the least injured."

Grunt 1 "And, supposedly, it’s all because her and her friends are gone…"

Grunt 2 "And the world is falling apart as a result. Listen to the rain."

"The first soldier listened. The rain was heavy."

Grunt 2 "It’s been like that since this morning, and there’s no signs of it stopping. The meteorologists are baffled… Frankly, I think it’s terrifying what an unstable world we live—"

"A cough from the corner of the room silenced him."

"The cough originated from a tall, brown-haired man smoking a cigarette, and, oddly, wearing what can only be described as a /“spy outfit./” Black, form-fitting, with armor plates on the joints and fake muscles sown out of Kevlar."

"Satou Mori considered the suit his /“work clothes./” Everyone else thought he was slightly mad."

Satou "Oi. You two."

Grunt 2 "Er, yes, sir?"

Satou "Any progress on finding Itsuko-chan?"

Grunt 1 "No, no sir, unfortunately, the PDT isn’t picking up anything. The machine might not actually be capable of—"

Satou "Tch."

"Satou Mori flicked his cigarette at them."

Satou "I’ll tell you why it isn’t working. It isn’t working because you lack love."

Grunt 1 "……Sir?"

Satou "Love. The key to using that machine is the simplest, and yet most complex emotion of all. Love. Do you, Corporal, have a woman in your life?"

Grunt 1 "Well, no, sir, my job doesn’t afford me the time for—"

Satou "Exactly. You, Other Corporal. Do you have a woman in your life?"

Grunt 2 "Well, I’m gay, sir."

Satou "Then do you have a man in your life?"

Grunt 2 "No, sir, it’s kind of difficult to find a—"

Satou "Exactly. The PDT system isn’t working because neither of you can feel love. You lack the capacity to reach across the heavens, the infinite heavens, and touch the tender, sweet hands of the one that you hold most dear."

Grunt 2 "Uh, so, what do you suggest we—"

Satou "Move aside, soldier. I will use this machine. I will find Itsuko-chan. With love."

"The two soldiers quickly got of the way as Satou Mori approached the PDT system and sat down. He immediately began flipping switches and punching buttons in a complicated pattern."

"It was clear to even an amateur’s eyes that he had no idea what he was doing."

Grunt 1 "Uh, sir, I don’t think this is a good—"

Grunt 2 "Leave it. He’ll have figured it out in ten minutes, and then he’ll be doing our job for us. Let’s go on break."

"However, they only made it a few steps outside the door of the PDT room when they were addressed by a very large man in combat gear who clearly outranked them."

Officer "You two. Where is Agent Satou Mori?"

"The two soldiers snapped smartly to attention."

Grunt 1 "Sir! In the room behind us, sir! He volunteered to take over for us while we took our break, sir!"

"The voice of an old woman came out from behind the hulking officer."

??? "Now now, there’s no need to be so nervous. At ease, gentlemen."

"The soldiers complied, although their minds were most definitely not at ease. Stepping out from behind the scary officer was another, even scarier person."

"She was an old woman in combat gear. Her nametag read /"Arakawa./" "

"The first soldier began to sweat noticeably. The second one was able to keep his cool until the other person stepped out from behind the large officer."

"He was a young man with a serene smile and curly hair, wearing a high school uniform."

Kimidori "Emori Kimidori. It’s very nice to meet you all."

"Everyone in the Agency knew what it meant when a random high school student showed up at HQ. Especially one wearing that distinct blue blazer."

"It meant trouble."

Arakawa "You can tell that kid that he can stop working so hard. …I can hear him hitting the buttons from out here."

"It was true. You could."

Kimidori "In fact, you can tell him that I’ve found them."

The Power of Love (II)

"Kimidori /“turned on/” his eyes for us again, and displayed on the screen was the back of a man frantically working at some machine. Kimidori seemed to be sitting down behind him."

Emori "You should be able to communicate through me. Please try saying something."

Itsuko "Ah, hello?"

"The man froze."

Man "There we are. I am done. I have made contact with her. Love prevails."

Itsuko "Hnnnhh…"

"Itsuko immediately held her head as though she was suffering intense pain."

Kyonko "…Mori-san?"

Satou "Hmm? Who are you? You’re not Itsuko-chan. Why is your voice inside my head?"

"Itsuko whispered to us."

Itsuko "I would ask you to refrain from speaking while I make my report, please. It will go faster that way."

Kyonko " /“Understood/”, I guess."

"Another voice, offscreen. It sounded like Arakawa-san."

Arakawa "…Just turn around, Mori."

"Mori-san swings around in his chair."

Satou "Oh, I didn’t notice you all here. Great news! I just made contact with Itsuko-chan!"

"…I didn’t know Mori-san could be this dumb."

Itsuko "Actually, Mori-san, it was we who made contact with Kimidori-san here."

Satou "…Itsuko-chan? Why is your voice coming out of this boy’s mouth?"

Itsuko "…It’s the nature of the connection we’ve established. Unfortunately, you’re not able to see us, and Kimidori-san says we don’t have the time to set up a system similar to the one we have here."

"I should probably explain who these people are."

"Emori Kimidori is a second-year I met back in June, who was posing as the boyfriend of our Computer Society President. Until today, I had no idea he was another humanoid interface, but it makes sense, in retrospect."

"Satou Mori-san and Arakawa-san I both met during our trip to the island this summer. They were working as hired help at the mansion, and, as such, the last time I saw Mori-san he was wearing a butler uniform, not the… spy outfit he’s clothed in now."

"It turned out that both Mori-san and Arakawa-san (who, incidentally, just walked into view, wearing khaki combat gear) were working for Itsuko’s /“Agency/”. Which explains their state of dress."

Arakawa "He’s perfectly right in saying that we don’t have time. Please, make your report as quickly as possible, and we’ll relay what information we can back."

"Out of her maid uniform, Arakawa-san, seemingly a nice old woman, is completely different."

Itsuko "We have somehow found ourselves in a universe where many of the people we once knew are the opposite gender."

"Mori-san and Arakawa-san look at each other in confusion."

Satou "The opposite gender?"

Itsuko "Indeed. Suzumiya-san included."

Arakawa "Hmm. Does the Suzumiya-san in that universe have any trace of the power ours does?"

Itsuko "Unknown, though she does seem to have, ah, similar interests, and the SOS Brigade still seems to exist in the same form."

Satou "I’d think that would confirm it, then."

Arakawa "Our suspicions? I hope not."

"Suspicions?"

Arakawa "Do you know how you all got into that universe, Koizumi?"

"Itsuko glances at me."

"…What? Why did you just give me that look?"

Itsuko "…No, as of yet we have no idea how we were trapped here, though I have several theories, if you’d like to hear--"

Arakawa "I already said we don’t have much time."

"I heard Asahina-senpai chuckling behind me."

Arakawa "Actually, if that’s the case, Koizumi-chan… you’re not going to be able to come home."

"…!"

Kyonko "…What, exactly, does that mean?"

Arakawa "Ah, is that Kyon-chan? Good to hear from you. …You see, we haven’t yet developed the technology to slide across dimensions. We have no way of bringing you home."

Satou "What?! But you told me earlier that--!"

Arakawa "That was to keep you from going ballistic! I’m sorry, Koizumi, Kyon-chan, but… until you figure out for certain how this happened, we can’t even begin to formulate a plan."

Itsuko "Which is why a theory would—"

Arakawa "We can’t run off of conjecture. We’ve got to have proof. We’ve already thought that it could be Suzumiya-san behind this, believe me, and if it is him, or, indeed, any Suzumiya-san, we have even less hope."

Kyon-chan "Well… what about the Data Overmind? Shouldn’t they be able to bring us home, if we can communicate like this? Couldn’t you just convert us to data and send us across or something?"

Emori "We probably could, but the process might, first of all, kill you, and second of all, Nagato-san would have to remain behind if we went that route."

"And that’s unacceptable. Nagato remaining behind, I mean."

"Asahina-senpai, mostly quiet until now, butts in."

Mitsuuru "Has anyone from my group contacted you? Anyone at all?"

Satou "…Ah, it’s Mitsuuru-kun, right? Someone from the future was here earlier, but… he’s among the missing."

Itsuko "…The missing…?"

Arakawa "…Several hours ago, the main Agency HQ was attacked… by an Avatar appearing in broad daylight."

"……"

Arakawa "It vanished soon after, but most people working there are considered either dead or missing."

"Itsuko clenched the edges of her skirt."

Mitsuuru "So the only person my group sent… is dead? Killed by one of those figments? That’s…"

Kyonko "…Could your people have gotten us home, Asahina-senpai?"

Mitsuuru "That’s classified."

"……If an Avatar showed up in the real world… that’s bad. That’s very, very bad."

"I don’t want to know the answer to this question. But I think I already know the answer."

Kyonko "…How is Haruki doing without us?"

Arakawa "…Let me put it like this. Today’s weather was supposed to be sunny and beautiful. It’s been raining since this morning, and it’s only getting worse."

Kyonko "Ah."

Arakawa "He’s the reason we don’t have much time. Things could come to a head at any minute."

Kyonko "That moron… who said he had the right to get so depressed without all of us?"

Satou "It’s not just because all of you are gone. It’s because you in particular are gone that he ended up like this."

Kyonko "What are you trying to say, Mori-san?"

Satou "It’s the power of love!"

"Please tell me I’m not blushing right now. Please."

"From the other side, I can hear the noise of thunder rumbling."

Itsuko "Was that…?"

Arakawa "The storm’s getting worse…. Please, listen carefully. If you want to get home, you had better find out how you got there to begin with. And please, hurry. I don’t know much time this world has left in it, with Suzumiya-san in this state…."

Satou "And Itsuko-chan, don’t forget to"

"Static."

"How is there static on an LCD monitor?"

"It doesn’t matter. They’re gone."

Yuuki "Disconnected. Connection lost." [ED Note: I assume the connection dies from the Seitenkan side, not the Normal one. If it's the opposite, the original would be more correct.]

"…"

Kyonko "…So. Now what are we going to do?"

Mitsuuru "I guess we better get used to our new lives here, huh?"

Kyonko "…You’re just going to give up?"

Mitsuuru "What other choice do we have? How are we supposed to find out how we got here in the first place? Just go around and start asking people?"

Kyonko "That’s better than just accepting this! I’m not going to stay in a love hotel forever! I want to go home!"

Itsuko "...Actually, our four hours are almost up. It’s time to leave anyway."

"...She wasn't smiling at all."

"…Itsuko seemed to be really shook up by what we heard earlier, about the Avatar attacking their headquarters. I wonder…?"

Kyonko "Itsuko…? Are you—"

Itsuko "Of course, we could just pay for the whole night here. I think they have a nice going rate for—"

Kyonko "…Nevermind."

Mitsuuru "…I’d rather not stay in here longer than I have to."

Itsuko "But these beds are so comfortable."

Mitsuuru "There’s only two beds!"

Itsuko "Exactly. One for the boys and one for the girls. Or if you like we could change it up a bit and—"

Kyonko "Okay, it’s check out time."

"I headed towards the door and waited for them there, hands on my hips."

"Itsuko was doing her best to lighten the mood. After all, it’s true that we might really be trapped here forever."

"But like I said, I’m not going to give up. There has got to be some way we can get home."

"…Haruki’s powers are supposed to be able to do anything."

"…So shouldn’t it be the same way for any Suzumiya?"

I can see Itsuko taking a bit of vicious pleasure in her teasing at the end there. Sort of an outlet for how she's feeling on the inside.

Pretty much, yeah.

I love Itsuko. <3

Also, "The shadow nods at the television, which regains the ability to speak.

There's this literary techique I'm fond of that anthropomorphizes what objects do in order to make the reader think differently about them.

I thought using it in certain scenes, like that one, would be most interesting.

Gulp.

Also, thank you for your hard work.

Itsuko's and Mitsuuru's relations seem much more strained then their counterparts.
Maybe that can come into play in a route.

I'm nearly done with extracting the music. The last problem is fitting all of the music inside the mail... I'll have to send it in 5 parts or something (limit is 10 MB)

Yes, that's gone as well. While I wanted to wait until I had at least the rest of the TFEI done, I'll post the update...

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/51793Moeman/seitenkanmother3style-2.png

EDIT: Oh, whoops, the little Apple Kid-font list is something for my own reference so I won't need to look at the pictures repeatedly. Heh.

EDIT2: please ignore my stupidity on mixing up the two student council presidents

Holy crap I'm contributing with original images.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/51793Moeman/seitenkanmother3style.png

I bring you the Seitenkan cast in a Mother 3 style. Well, right now we only have Glasses!Yuuki, Yuuki, and Kyonko, but soon I'll add the rest of the Brigade and then keep adding till I'm either done or I get bored of it.

Done with the main Brigade, as well as Long-Haired Haruki.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h109/51793Moeman/seitenkanmother3style-1.png

Mitsuuru was a bitch to sprite. I ended up just saying "fuck it" and editing Yuuki's head.

Indeed. :heh:

The updated version will have Itsuko in Zettai Ryouiki. I forgot it this time since I just edited Kyonko's base model a bit (...who was also edited off Kumatora), but I'm going by the all-male and all-female cast member pics.

For the curious, you can find 'em by looking in the Tsuji group social board image section.

Damn, I like those sprites...

Ah, so it's like the length of their leggings correspond with the level of land above water on two hills of different heights during a flood.

Winter/Spring
Itsuko:Pantyhose
Kyonko:Zettai Ryouki

Summer

Kyonko:Regular knee high's

Itsuko is cruelly dedicated to the art of innocuously fetishy leggings.

...Actually, come to think of it, what color are her panties, normally...? >_>

Day 5 is very complicated, yes.

Day 6 should be somewhat less so, given that it's effectively in a route at that point.

Only the final scenes and the memory interludes are the same in (almost) every route on that day, so it should be easier to understand, flowchart, and code.

"So that's General Leo... He could be my friend, if he weren't my enemy."

This is actually a common statement if the commanders actually respect each other or in the cases of Civil Wars, really were friends before they were placed on different sides of the war. Some generals has books written of them or by them in their lifetimes, and personality and interest wise, other generals, even on the opposing sides, respected them, and as the quote says, could have been their friend, if he wasn't their enemy.

The other two quotes are what is called, extreme understatements.

As for underwear...At least it is be discussed in a serious fashion....though why it needs to come up at all...aside from being a background detail...is unclear. Though in respect we did see both Mikuru and Haruhi's underwear from time to time (Mikuru's more often). So it could be said that there could easily be a scene of someone walking in on Kyonko and/or Itsuko...though since parts are in Kyonko's point of view, I doubt she'd make remarks on it for the audiance. (Kyon on the other hand might point things out)

Hmmm, Mitsuuru has developed in a quite complex character, eh? Mikuru would only use two of these. I liked the last one. For I second I tought it was a weird smile, but then I get it was a defiant smile. Probably reserved to Itsuko. :p

Oh, about the "shocked" one (the first). While is good, it don't pass the "scared" emotion. I know it was probably not the intention, but for Mitsuuru, "scared" seens more important. Hmmm, I guess you just wanted to play if some less used expressions. It isn't easy find any of those in fan art.

Yes, the far right is a sort of "smug" look. I've been wanting to do that one for a while. As far as the left goes, it was originally intended as a "I can't believe this" more than "pure terror" (Though there's a bit of that in there as well). In both Kaisos' and Aebliss' writing Mitsuuru doesn't seem to trust anyone or believe in any kind of "non-scientific" happenings, so I felt this look was rather appropriate.

It might simply be the translation from Japanese to English, (even the official translations do this) but the narrative in the original novels is extremely stilted.

During my rewrites, I tried to smooth this out, and the result was that Kyonko ended up sounding more human.

It's still pretty subtle though.

The "what is true for one is true for the other" is something Greentext said early on, and will probably continue to be interated over and over again throughout the story.

It does not refer to situation, it refers to personality and psychological issues. Even if each pair are outwardly different people in different situations, they still are, at the core, the same.

...I'm sorry if this is a difficult concept to express, but I think everyone else is getting it... :heh:

Maybe it would help to say that Mikuru is just as complex as Mitsuuru is, but can't show it, because being ever so slightly yandere isn't very moe to Kyon?

Wait! Now this confuses me. I, by reading you Mitsuuru was under the impression it was quite the oposite, Mikuru being naturaly moe for Kyon while Mitsuuru tryes (and fails) to show of a bit. Also, I understood Mitsuuru confrontional personality as being a man who has the same personality as Mikuru but finds it ridiculous and trys (and fails) to change, or, at last appear differently. So, I understood Mikuru was the most natural of both. Not that he fakes his confrontatinal-ness, but is just his personality changes more then Mikuru's due to the envirronment.

Mikuru would stand up for herself a lot more if she wasn't playing a role. It's a theory a lot of the fandom has that she's just faking a lot of her moe-ness, and it's something I ascribe to.

STOP LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT, I DON'T NEED TO GO TO CLASS.

Irritation

"The room is even more of a mess than before."

"The food wrappers have increased in volume. There’s enough of them to paper the walls. (He had raided the cupboards downstairs.)"

"There appears to be an increase in the volume of garbage, but that’s because every drawer in the room had been emptied. (He had been searching for something.)"

"The pockets of every single piece of clothing (that had pockets) were turned inside out. (He had still been searching, but it’s not like a pocket could fit what he was looking for anyway.)"

"The stack of manga in the corner of the room had turned into a jumble of manga spreading out from the corner of the room, almost like a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream, with sprinkles, that had fallen onto the ground, and splattered little bits everywhere. (He had wondered if they had gotten lost under the manga somehow.)"

"The room had not been like this when he had left for school this morning. (That was also when he had forgotten them, which had turned out to be a big mistake.)"

"At school, he had begun the day by interrogating his classmates about Kyonko’s whereabouts. (He had bullied Taniguchi and Kunikida so much that they had to be sent to the nurse’s office, and he the principal’s.)"

"No luck. No luck at all."

"During his first break, he had rushed to Itsuko Koizumi’s classroom to interrogate her classmates. (They weren’t the least bit intimidated by him.)"

"No luck. No luck at all."

"During his next break, he went to Yuuki Nagato’s classroom a few doors down to interrogate his classmates. (Terrified of the angry and clearly upset intruder, they said they didn’t know where he was, but that it wasn’t uncommon for him to miss a class or two.)"

"No luck. No luck at all."

"During lunch break, he had gone to Mitsuuru Asahina’s classroom to beg his classmates to tell him where he had gone. (They didn’t know.)"

"No luck. No luck at all!"

"Even Tsuruya, who might have known something, wasn't there either. (No cause for more concern; his classmates had said that he had 'called in bored'.)"

"No luck, no luck, no luck, no luck! No luck at aaaaaallllll!"

"Haruki Suzumiya had gone home after that."

"He walked home in the rain, not having bothered to bring an umbrella. On some level, he blamed himself for what had happened."

"Being soaked was all he deserved."

"It was about this time that the rain began to get noticeably worse. Except that he didn’t notice."

"Haruki Suzumiya wished that he could break something. He didn’t, but something else did."

"Somewhere in the city, a building crumbled. A lot of people died."

"Acceptable. (But not for the bereaved.)"

"When Haruki Suzumiya got home, he took all the snack food and candy out the kitchen, and went up to his room without a word to anyone or anything."

"When he had flopped down on his bed, he was intending to enjoy an afternoon of solitude and melancholy."

"It was about this time he noticed they were missing."

"And that was how the room had gotten into that state. (It was also because he had used up some of his pent-up energy throwing manga at the walls.)"

"Haruki Suzumiya is now in the mood to clean it all up. This is because he is irritated, and has nothing else to do."

"Nothing else at all. Because his xxxxxxxxxx are missing."

"Haruhi Suzumiya loved his xxxxxxxxxx so very much. They had been a present for one of his birthdays, and they were about the only thing he owned that he really took care of."

"He’d use them whenever he felt down. Or whenever he felt happy. Or whenever he felt anything."

"But his xxxxxxxxxx were gone. He was positive that they were gone. The room wouldn’t be such a mess if he hadn’t searched that hard."

"Do you understand what it means to lose something that you love so much?"

"Do you understand?"

"Do you really understand?"

"Do you really, truly, understand?"

"Do you really, truly, completely understand?"

"Haruki Suzumiya considered his xxxxxxxxxx to be his soul, and now they were gone."

"His soul had been taken from him."

"So it may be easy to understand why Haruki Suzumiya is so irritated."

"Irritation breeds frustration breeds Closed Spaces full of angry red giants. That’s the way of things."

"It’s late evening. Haruki Suzumiya is punching his pillow and trying not to cry. (Men don’t cry. Not real men. They hold in their tears until they’re full to burst.)"

"What is this? Why? Why? Why did they all leave him behind? Why?"

"Are they just playing with him? Are they just hiding? Did they sneak in here and steal his xxxxxxxxxx too?"

"Maybe they’re just inside my closet, laughing at me?"

"He wrenched open the closet door. No luck at all. It was empty."

"He had searched there earlier anyway. Why he’d expect to find anything in there now is anyone’s guess."

"Haruki Suzumiya wasn’t crying. He really wasn’t. (Men don’t cry. They hold in their tears until they’re full to burst.)"

"Instead, he punched a hole in his wall at the injustice of it all."

"He wasn’t sad. He wasn’t angry. He was merely irritated. That’s all he was. (Men hold in their tears until they’re full to burst.)"

"Outside the window, out in the rain and wind, thunder was rumbling."

"The news had said that this storm was record-setting. Something Haruki Suzumiya, until yesterday, would have cared about. He would done something crazy, like drag the SOS Brigade out in the wet and cold, just to witness the storm of the century."

"Is that why they left?"

"I’m sorry."

"I’m sorry."

"I’m so sorry."

"I'm goddamn sorry!"

"Please, just come back... I want to see all of your faces again..."

"I want to apologize. (I’m holding the tears in until I’m full to burst.) So please, please."

"Come back."

"I’m not crying."

Headphones

"The first thing I did when I got home was dump my bag in my room, change out of my uniform, and then go downstairs to help my sister with her homework, like she asked."

"When I did that, there was nothing on my pillow whatsoever."

Kyon "So why, then, is there something on there now?"

"Sitting on top of my pillow is a set of yellow and grey headphones, plugged into a faded yellow xPod. Placed on top of them is a small white card with /“Happy Birthday Kyon/” printed on it."

"…To clear things up, it’s not my birthday. My birthday—"

"Someone’s knocking at my door. It’s my sister."

Sister "Hey, Kyon, can I borrow the scissors again?"

Kyon "Yeah, sure."

"Why she doesn’t just take them for herself, I don’t know. I never seem to find myself using them…."

"Where was I… right, the mysteriously appearing headphones."

"Unless my mother came upstairs and put them here while I was helping my sister… there should have been no way for anyone to get in here."

"…I look outside the window. The trellis is fine. No sign of climbing or any damage at all. Thank god, I don’t want to fix it again."

"No person could have left these here. So I guess I should regard this as a paranormal event… Exactly what should I do with these, then?"

"This xPod was probably expensive… although, taking a closer look, yellow wasn’t its original color… in fact, the yellow paint is peeling on the back, revealing the silver color beneath."

"…Did someone buy this used? I think if someone actually painted a music player, it would drop in value dramatically."

"Although, the headphones… I don’t listen to music as a hobby, but I can tell that these are extremely good quality headphones. Furthermore, they look brand new. Someone took very good care of these."

"The only sign of ownership is a series of Roman characters etched into the underside. On the left side is… C… O… O… L… and on the other side… S…H…R…I…N…E…"

"What does that even mean? I’ll have to grab a dictionary from downstairs later."

"Still, I have to wonder… if this thing is used, and still works despite the paint, does that mean there’s still music on it?"

"I’ve heard that music is a window to the soul. If I listen to what’s on here, I might find out something about the person who originally owned this."

"…Is it safe to put these on? They might make my head explode or something."

"That’s stupid. I put the headphones on, and try to find the “On” switch on the xPod."

"…Where are the buttons…? Ah, there’s something like that on the front. I couldn’t see because of the paint—"

"It turns on by itself."

Kyon "Wha—?"

"Disappear, remains, now this love burn"
"Is of the past, a painful prick in my heart"
"Together we'll overcome love"
"Another season, HERE IT COMES"

"A bittersweet song about lost love, sung by a young man, echoes into my ears."

"I listen to the song all the way through as I play with the xPod, trying to figure out how to turn it off. Apparently set on /“repeat/”, the song loops a few more times before I’m done."

"The person who originally owned these lost his love, huh…?"

"My mother called me a few times for dinner, but these headphones cancel noise so well that I didn’t hear her until she rapped loudly on my door."

"…"

Right. Mikuru can't be acting. Not a lot of people can pull off "pathetic" on a daily basis without actually being pathetic, and I have severe doubts she'd be one of them. :heh:

Shifting the topic, I have a question about the Day 5 Outline; I'm probably just misunderstanding something, so forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question:

[IF Thief =True, THEN]
-...Well, good luck out there, then... [Muttered Thanks; to POINT CHECK]
-...You know, my place is open... [The Low Bow; Kyonko+20; CooperationRoute=True; to Sneaking In]

IF RoutesClear >=5 THEN
-...Well, good luck out there, then... [Muttered Thanks; to POINT CHECK]
-...You know, my place is open... [The Low Bow; Kyonko+20; CooperationRoute=True; to Sneaking In]
-I'll find you a place to sleep, I promise. [Expressed Thanks, Kyonko+15, IF Rejected=False, THEN TrueRoute=True; IF Rejected=True, THEN FinalRoute=True; to Searching Around]

Does the Thief=True condition apply to the third choice as well, or is the RoutesClear >=5 condition the only one that matters? I'm asking this because, from what I can tell from the outlines and flowcharts, getting all 8 Hijack triggers, necessary for getting Rejected=True, bars you from getting Thief=True. Assuming Thief=True is also required for the third dialogue option, then this means that Final Route is inaccessable.

I hope that makes sense. As I said I probably just missed something in the outlines/flowcharts/writeups. If so, sorry.

Also, though I've been a long time lurker, this is my first actual post here! I hope to join the madness that is seitenkan :D.

I believe the Thief=True does apply. It wouln't make sense if doesn't. So, I believe the correct would be:
IF Thief=True And RoutesClear >=5 THEN
-...Well, good luck out there, then... [Muttered Thanks; to POINT CHECK]

Hmm. The typical eroge main menu setup is:

NEW GAME
LOAD GAME/CONTINUE/WHATEVER
OPTIONS
QUIT

After you finish at least one route, it's

NEW GAME
LOAD GAME
EVENT VIEWER
CG VIEWER
MUSIC PLAYER
OPTIONS
EXTRA
QUIT

In our game, after 100% completion it'll look something like

NEW GAME
LOAD GAME
-FINAL-
EVENT VIEWER
CG VIEWER
CREDITS VIEWER
MUSIC PLAYER
OPTIONS
EXTRA
QUIT

Questions?

Not 'how[ever] many'. :p Although some games have an upper limit of 100 save files, I think we should be limited to 50 at the very most...

Ah, good to know. I suppose I should work on it. I shouldn't be hard.

Right now the menu is like:
New Game
Load Game
Extra (I just put it arbitrarly without thinking too much)
Preferences(options)
Help (read the readme, standard for ren'py)
Quit

So, you want to put all extra stuff outside the (admittedly useless) extra button right? And having then appearing only after the first play, right?

Not 'how[ever] many'. :p Although some games have an upper limit of 100 save files, I think we should be limited to 50 at the very most...

Well, ren'py standard is limitless. The standard save screen have 8 pages with 10 slots for save, however, there is a "next page" button, allowing you to go the 9yh page, and then to 10th, 11th, 12th and ad infinitum. So, why put a limit? The save files are small, and they only occup space if you use them, so, don't matter if the limit is 50 or 500, if you have 3 save files, then this is the only amount of space is being used.

I am not writing this entire thing. I'm doing the First Week, the Esper Route, and the CoOp Route, and the majority of the last three routes, but I am NOT doing the whole thing. :heh:

Do we already have the other writers? Jintor is writing Alien, but and the rest? Also, you may not being ewriting the other routes, but I imagine you are going to revise, right? If only to make the game more consistent.

No, it's a tribute to the history of mecha anime. And it reintroduced a lot of old concepts to newer fans. Like Kamina's character type, which you don't goddamn see in anime nowadays, except in Mainstream Shounen Crap.

Incidentally, I've always visualized a tiger dojo-esque corner after the bad ends led by none other than Taniguchi, Kunikida, and the occasional guest star since I'm doubting they get much screentime (and it always falls to the minor characters to do these things). Use it to shed some insight, make some jokes, and sometimes laugh at the choices of the protagonist (Kyon).

I believe Danchou has other ideas... But that would also be awesome.

PP:
I was going to give that to the SCPs, actually... It's a good role for them.

That would be funny too. But I believe hearing Danchou saying something different. My memory is not that good, tough, so I might be mistake.

Yeah, but I was mostly referring to romantic fluff though... and I'm not that great at that. :heh:

Speaking on that, wouldn't be a good idea having a recruting post where you/Danchou post every slot is needed to be fulfilled? Then we can link it from the first post and made a sig (whith maybe that "Haruki wants you" amage) linking to it.

Anyway, I would like to repeat my suggestion then: having a variation of tsuko's and Kyonko's scene in Day5, for when you don't fulfill, or just partially fulfill, the requeriments for the full scene. Just for the sake of consistence, it is not like Itsuko give up going to store just because Kyon didn't called Itsuki early in that day. Your reason for don't accepting was it would be too much work to you (which is true, given what you already do), however, it wouldn't be a problem if another person do right?

This is a good idea. We should do that sometime.

How about now? :p We could begin by listing what we are needing. Meanly people image editor, also some music editors. A fluff writer and route writer (tought I believe we already have some writers right? They were just not assigned to a job, yet)

But who knows. Maybe the conversation with Itsuki goes longer if you met Itsuko and that enables him to meet her (It's all about timing people!). Because it make the game better? I would lie to see some "fail" scenes. Like talking with Kyonko in that day, but don't leading to her route.

Anyway, you have played more VN then I, however, I was impressed how F/SN was consistent with that. I mean, there are three completelly different routes defined by a small change in the 3th day. However, the game was clear enough how that small change effect all the story.

I need to back to playing Clannad (I have to redownload it, tough), but I have not seen any inconcistence in there. And I am the type who sae before all choices and test every one of then.

That. This is some useless things I would like to see. I mean, if Kyon didn't met Itsuko, then give a small note he reconised the "pretty girl" from Day4, but didn't talk to her. If he had met her but haven't called Itsuki, then a "failed" scene, with him not being able to make a good conversation.

I read it a lot, but most exemple I saw were wrong. I don't remember if every Bad End make sense, however, specifically Day3, were the routes branch (when the only time you choices actually matter), is very consistent:

If you stop Saber from injuring Archer, Rin part with Shirou early, making Illya attaching in a unfavorable place, making Saber and Archer wining Berseker, don't making Rin and Shirou ally, allowing Archer to plot everything...

If you are nice to Sakura, she tries a bit more, making... well, everything happen.

I really don't see as many plot holes as most say.

Some nice ends with "then, sucky things happen, but in the end they live happy after ever, kinda.

Using F/SN as exemple, the Fate True End, with Saber going back, but everything else turning out good (exept not, but you don't know that at time). Or even Heaven's Feel True End.

In Clannad, the hypothetical end where Nagisa dies but Ushio lives. (do it actually happen in the game? I was hoping this would be the end of the anime)

Well, changing the subject for a while (and backing to the rewrites), Mitsuuru have been writen as way more confrontational then Mikuru, which is cool, as it fit very well to him. In most storys this wouldn't change to much from canon, as most Itsuki's theorys are told in private to Kyon (being Mikuru the most clueless character). However, in Sighs Itsuki call a reunion with everybody. In canon Yuki just ignored him and Mikuru stayed quiet, however, I suppose Mitsuuru wouldn't be stay silent. With who Kyonko would side then? And would Mitsuuru call a private discussion with Kyon latter with he already exposed his oppinion?

More important then that is how it would effect their relation latter. In the VN Mitsuuru has a big enmity with Itsuko. How it would be in the genderbended novels? Which storys would be effected? I wonder if Haruki would ever notice such hostility on his brigade and how he would react...

...Oh, lord. How are going the rewrite again? I remember someone saying it had writen something and send to Kaisos... how it this end? I also remember said person (whose nick I forgot because I have a goldfish memory) saying he didn't felt too confident to work on BLR... but most important parts were already writen by Kaisos (even if by another POV). Any animosity between Mitsuuru and Itsuko would not be on display in front of Haruki. After all, Haruki is supposed to believe Mitsuuru is completely effeminate, while Itsuko won't do anything to upset Haruki.

Why is Haruki suppose to believe Mitsuuru is completely effeminate? I believe he thinks Mitsuuru is somewhat like that because Mitsuuru is. Mitsuuru probably cower more when near to Haruki because Haruki is bigger, stronger and more powerfull, not because he was ordered to. He might have ordered to obey him blindly (so don't upseting the uber-powerful beeing), but can't see why he needs to appear so weak.

Ah, so, Haruki would be proud if Mitsuuru demonstred some guts, for a change. :p My point is Mitsuuru might act more cowardly near to Haruki, but not by imposition. He acts like that because it is how he is.

I'm ALIVE, and not missed.....

ANYways...What happened in the last week that I was dead for?

And something slightly relevant, What is Mitsuuru? not looking for the time-traveler answer. Yeah, I can't think straight enough to ask decent questions anymore...

Mitsuuru is an upperclassman that is usually forced into ridiculous outfits by Haruki.

Last week? Hmmm, We didn't do too much. Kaisos and I disscussed about Mitsuuru and Mikuru, begining here (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2731648#post2731648). (this is older then a week, but the discussion extended a bit) scify posted two (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2736441&postcount=20870) edits (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2736456&postcount=20871). A wide new member (http://forums.animesuki.com/member.php?u=102920) has appeared (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2741547&postcount=20875). We also discussed a bit about the game, including the menu (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2745564&postcount=20900) and which job slots (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2745770&postcount=20905) need to be filled (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2745917&postcount=20927).

That is it, I guess. Nothing important.

Oh, Kaisos mentioned (http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=2744186&postcount=20890) he would resume work today. I don't know if he had made much pregress, as I have been bothering him on the msn. :p

Been gone a while, but noticed that options were discussed a few pages back. Does the template being used support speedtext for later playthroughs?

As defaut Ren'py made you be able to pass any seen text fastly. Don't need even be in a leter play, if you back in a save you can already do that. Also, more important, you can totaly skip any scene you have aready seen, like in F/SN.

We can't have that, can we? People will skip over the fun parts... Of course, I have a different idea of what the "fun parts" are...

Heatth

People can only skip if they have already seen the scene.

This game requires you to play the first week many times to fnish it (at last 11 times, if I count correctly). Forcing people to see it every time is jsut annoying.

As do I.

Subsequent playthroughs should have altered green text in the beginning that can't be skipped.

You can use "skip" as jump? Or just "jump" as "skip"? I don't know in either way. ^^;

However, in portuguese they are the same word.

(useless clarification. There are at last two words to jump (as there are some other similar in english: hop and leap), but the most common ("pular") is both "jump" and "skip". Also, it is not all "skip", "skip" in "skip a commitment" is another word.)

Oh, well, I didn't know that. So my comment was pointless, as "skip" and "kangaroo" was suppose to be a bad pun, even in english. :heh:
