The new series based on the Masamune Shirow Appleseed manga is to be called Appleseed Genesis and will be directed by Romanov Higa and feature the voice talent of Paku Romi, according to Moon Phase and the series listing on the Tokyo International Anime Fair website. This is all we know about the series at present, but more details should appear leading up to the TIAF stage event on March 30th and we’ll be keeping an eye out for them.

The homepage for this month's Tokyo International Anime Fair has revealed that a press event scheduled for March 30 at the convention will host the formal public announcement of development of Appleseed Genesis, a 3D CG anime television series to be directed by respected CG animator Romanov Higa (Catblue Dynamite, Urda). The Appleseed TV series will be Romanov Higa's second CG anime adaptation of manga by Masamune Shirow following the 2006 OVA Tank Police Dominion Tank S.W.A.T. 01.

Paku Romi is a plus. CG title is a minus. Hopefully, Shirow will have enough pull so this one doesn't look bad.

I am worried, but optimistic.

GitS SAC series was the only TV series of a Shirow franchise, and I loved it. But the fact of the matter is the majority of OVAs and short stories of Shirows were made into bad stories. It takes a GREAT team to adaption Shirow, because his stories are always so complecated.

The Appleseed movies were a disappointment to me, because I can see they've dumbed it down. The fact that this director directed the latest Dominion Tank Police ova (Which was hated by all) is the main problem.

Hopefully he could be better with a longer story time to work with, but I wouldn't hold my breath. GitS SAC was a miracle in itself, and I am not sure it could be repeated for Appleseed.
