This Extra Episode will be broadcasted this 28th march at 1:55 AM (Japan Time Zone),
which means this 27th march at 4:55PM (GMT 00). Q: Extra episode...? What is this about? Shouldn't it be Episode 23 ?
A: As explained in this thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=63971), CLANNAD main story has ended with Episode 22 (for the first half of course, since a second season will be broadcasted in the future).
Episode 23 does not follow the main plot (though it certainly follow the continuity), hence why it doesn't have any "Episode 23" in its title.

It's that time of the week, for the last time if there's no season two.
But, I'm wondering what they'll do with this episode! I'm sure looking forward to it!

Hmm i'm gonna guess this episode is about some of the things that happened in the game that arn't related to the main story, such as the laser game, saw some things in the preview that might hint that that's what its about but not so sure.
Looking forward to it though, looks to be a episode full of laughs :)

Having just played Nagisa's route in the game, I can say I'm pretty sure I know at least a bit of what this episode is about.
And I'm betting that the Baseball/Lasertag Route will be the OVA this July...
The last airing episode until season 2... Well, it was a fun ride, all.
I'm thinking this has something to do with someone's bad end, and will probably explore a couple of the routes that weren't covered. I'd be happy if it was Mei's route, but I don't think that's possible...
OVA is probably baseball...

*cough* Remember Mei's part in Nagisa's route? And Tomoya's fantasies after she mentions she's 'playing cupid'?

That's not Mei's route. That's called "Mei and Nagisa" in the game.

After Story confirmed!

There will be an interview with the series director and storyboarder in Dengeki G's Magazine (May edition), we'll probably get more information about the second season then.
If this is against the rules, lemme know and I'll delete it D:

@ PhantomX: O RLY? Fucking excellent! And yeah, this episode looks like its full of crack, from last ep's preview, looking forward to this, definitely.
Yay, i was really hoping to see the 2nd season :D

Yes it is confirmed, the only thing left is to determine when it will be aired and for how long.
Bu that's another story.
Let this news sink. if you want to discuss about it, please use the general discussion thread instead.
EDIT: this information has been shown almost everywhere on the forums. Hence anywhere would be quite a trend.
The current state is fine, so just keep discussing about it in the general discussion thread.

Screencaps are available on usual places.
Nagisa and Tomoya begin their couple life. However, their interactions are quite awkwards as people might expect.
At school, drama club and Tomoyo talk a bit on their summer break plans
Mei is back and pays a visit to youhei and Tomoya ! Much like the previous visit, she will stay at the Furukawa's house.
Mei will take a taste of "impossible to refuse MILF" Sanae. A little time after, she will help the bakery with Nagisa and Tomoya, so Both Akio and Sanae can take their day off. However, Mei seems to be the ULTIMATE weapon for the bakery.
VIOLENT Fantasies! MeiXYouhei and even TomoyaXYouhei ! :heh:
Mei is playing cupid and organizes a date for Nagisa and Tomoya.
Akio VS Sanae's SPECIAL bread: octopus pan! Good luck, akio...
Dear players, they DID IT! CINNAMON SCENE !!! :heh::heh::heh:
Heartwarming endLots of fun in perspective :)

Not only did they have Sunohara-cest, they did the Tomoya x Sunohara ending, with heart-shape marked boxers! lol
For some reason Tamura Yukari just has that "moe" feel to her voice, must have been all the Nanohas that I've been watching.
Prior to the fantasizing scenes, Sunohara, you fail in life for being ignored by your sister. :heh:
Nagisa certainly looks cuter than before, thanks to a little nudging from Mei-chan, the "scheming White Devil". This sort of cuteness is just a taste of what's to come in After Story, now that production of that is confirmed, though it definitely won't be what After Story is all about.

I am surprised Mei makes her more appearance than predicted.
It is very pleasant for me.:D
I guess After Story spends only 3 months.
If it spends 6 months, some people will find it too long unfortunately.

Extra Episode: Summary and screencaps (http://animehistory.wordpress.com/2008/03/28/clannad-extra-episode-summer-break-incident/)
KA sure put the fun block of Mei in Nagisa's route, and it was really heartwarming to see such lovey dovey couple like that.
Nagisa's moe scale in this episode ?
OVER NINE THOUSAND
That's cute, this should sate some people wanting a more hearty end.
Sunohara, Mei, Akio and Sanae was funny this episode.

Funny episode, but... somehow, I didn't think the sugary sweetness suited Nagisa. I could barely stand her at the end. I found angry/determined Nagisa (ep 19) a lot cuter.
Also, am I imagining things, or was the animation quality worse? The background imagery was often blurry and many of Nagisa's movements/poses look a bit artificial. It's typical animation quality, not up to the extraordinary standard Kyo Ani is known for.
Dramatic scenes are usually animated better than comedy :p Or maybe it's just my personal taste.

NAGISA... OMAE no koto SUKIDAAAAAAAAAA......................
 MOEMAX...
Hm, that was extremely interesting. I was expecting either something either completely anime original, or an animation of one of the routes they left out, but they gave us something completely different, what we missed in Nagisa's route.
Personally, I would have liked it better if they did it in the right order. Like, have the Mei/Nagisa scenes while Mei was still there. But I guess that was impossible unless KyoAni decided it wanted Tomoya and Naigsa dating before the last episode.
Quite a fun episode, even though it was animating my least favorite part of the Nagisa route. Now, about that squid bread... That was the first bread that actually did look really bad. Well, rainbow bread looked radioactive, but besides that. :p.
I can already see "Akio After":
Doctor: Sir, it seems that you have a year left to live.
Akio: A year? But I'm only 46 and feel perfectly fine?
Doctor: It seems that you've been injesting some toxic materials.
Akio: Toxic? I've only eaten Sanae's cooking.
Doctor: No, it's not her cooking. It seems you've been eating some strange bread as of late.
Akio: It can't be!
Doctor: That's right. Even your GARness cannot stand up to Sanae's bread.
Akio: NOOOOOOO!
:p
So, this episode gets a 9 for being fun to watch, and 2 bonus points for, OMG, AFTER STORY ANNOUNCEMENT! 11/10. But, since there's a limit, we round to the nearest 10 and get 10. :p

Awesome episode, Mei's strategy to get all those customers in the bakery was pure genius
I am still wondering what thing Sanae putted into her bread which looks like with M&M's beucause the sound when Mei was eating it was like a plate inside :D
But the "land mines" were the best! :D
Mei strategy was awesome! I wish to have a second little sister like her

This episode was so much win! XDDD
Nagisa was so cute in this episode. I love the tension between her and Tomoya. They're all blushy and nervous around each other. And Nagisa's moe scale has indeed gone through the roof
The Youhei x Mei and Youhei x Tomoya scenes were awesome. I was seriously rofl-ing XDD
And then the after story announcement! This episode has to get a 10 at least XD

I thought it sounded like she was munching on styrofoam.
What's more disturbing is that she seemed to be ENJOYING it! (Or doing a damned good job of putting on a show for Sanae, anyway.)
But the "land mines" were the best! :D
The only difference is this one destroys your psyche instead of blowing a limb off. That's because something ELSE'S limb is involved.
Mei strategy was awesome! I wish to have a second little sister like her

Yes, when Nagisa had some kinda of "reminiscence" about the Name issue :p
Yet again, the scripter really wanted to keep the group as a whole, even if one of them is most likely unable to be with them.
Duh, after watching 2-3 times, i can hereby say that the Cinnamon roll certainly has the cutest nagisa scene ever (minus AS, obviously... gamers KNOW what i'm talking about ^_^ )

It was pretty funny :)
The gags in it where obvious to show where it was going, but still it turned out pretty enjoyable. The fantasy was overboard as expacted which really wasn't my thing but the Cinnamon roll scene caught me off guard. Really funny XD
And the preview for the second season. Will be waiting for it ^^
I expected more Sunohara based on the preview for this episode, but I'll let it slide because Nagisa was really cute in this episode.

I cringed during the Tomoya x Sunohara part. :p
Enjoyed Nagisa's embarrassed reactions to... just about anything. Like when she called Tomoya "an important person to her" and then started freaking out. ^^ Wonder if there was some subtlety in her actual words that I missed. ;)

This episode was full of win.
No, not just win...
EPIC WIN!!!!!111111oneoneoneomgwtfbbqsauce
I think my face was stuck in a permanent smile throughout the whole episode.
The fantasy scene's killed me....Tomoya's "HOLY SHIT! THIS IS TURNING ME ON!" had me laughing so hard it made me sick :eyespin:
Sad to see the show end, can't wait for the next season.
Whoa INCEST FTW! I was also turned on! Maybe I should start searching for Sunohara X Mei doujinshi. That will really take the family theme of clannad to the wrong end.
Yukinokesshou
2008-03-28, 18:21
Also, am I imagining things, or was the animation quality worse? The background imagery was often blurry.
Ahahaha, it's not Kyo Ani's fault. It's just the Sprocket Hole version. I stand corrected after watching the SS/Eclipse version :heh:
well perfect 10 to me, liked it even better than 22.
What I think you can say having watched that episode is that the AS was planned all along. Because doing the extra episode and NOT continuing CLANNAD would be like... I dont even know anything as mean and cruel as that.
I keep liking Sunohara more and more. I've heard something of Sunohara arc, there is one in the game probably, I d really love him to have an arc in AS.
"Sunohara there is a girl waiting for you. She is very beautiful"
The way he is sprinting towards the entrance is soo cool...

The best part for sure is Tomoya Sunohara. Almost spilled my noodle watching that totally out of mind.....

This episode was really entertaining, to say the least. A Mei-coached Nagisa made the needle of my moé-meter hit the roof almost instantly. All interaction between her and Tomoya was exquisitely directed by KyoAni, and the cinnamon scene was at least as heartwarming as one could've expected.
Also, I can count the number of times that anime has managed to make me laugh on the fingers of my hand, but Tomoya's latter Sunohara-fantasy cracked me up. Both thumbs up for episode 23.
Since we have no preview (for the 24:th episode) to discuss, one might wonder what it will contain. I can only think of three alternatives, but I guess we'll have to wait for the DVD-release to find out, unless they'll say something about it in the interview.

2008-03-28, 19:56
Since the drama was pretty much forced, the "happy ending" wasn't that enjoyable.
But well... the humor scenes are still as good as in Episode 1
Hahahaha, this episode was fucking hilarious, I was grinning the whole episode through. Though I was expecting a kiss scene at the end, but what they did instead is pretty good.
Mei won a well-deserved time on screen in this episode.
One of the best episodes.
Again Tomoyo x Kyou.

Nagisa can blow the sweet scent of baked goods in my face any day of the week. Also, Mei's cuteness can barely be contained in the two episodes she's appeared in. Makes me wish I had a little sister...in the non-incestuous\non-sexual\non-pedo\non-creepy\non-perverted kind of way of course. ;)
"Holy shit... that turns me off" LOL, that was the most funniest thing I've ever seen. And Sanae's bread joke never gets old.

Cute episode. Damn cute episode. Even Tomoya was moe with his occasional unorthodox anti-Shiraishi style tsundereisms.
Not much to this episode, but for something that wasn't terribly momentous, there was still character development. There's a much under-discussed observation about Hiromi in True Tears, in that she's becoming a lot like Shinichiro's mom. One can't help but be influenced by the strong same-sex role models around. The same thing is rather happening here as well, in that Tomoya is becoming like Nagisa's father. Which, unlike the former example, is a good thing. Funnily enough, he recognizes it himself.
Nagisa and Tomoya are just such a great couple, though. It really is one of the most sensible and feel-good romantic relationships in anime, IMO. They really are just perfect for each other.

We started this episode with the now official couple of Nagisa and Tomoya. And since they are my OTP in the whole anime world, I was thrilled to start episode 23 in that way. :) Nagisa telling Tomoya that he is a very important person to her and the both of them blushing was such a cute and sweet scene! Tomoya asking Nagisa if they could hold hands and the both of them being extremely nervous while trying to do it was priceless!!!! I really enjoyed both of these scenes a lot!!! Another thing that I enjoyed was Kyo’s smile when she looked at Tomoya and Nagisa being a couple, it was a smile of resignation but at the same time it was a smile of happiness for Tomoya. It was nice to see an anime girl being happy for the guy she likes even though he is with another girl. One thing I have enjoyed greatly about Clannad is the fact that all the girls that are part of Tomoya’s harem have been able to be happy for Tomoya and they all have shown to be very accepting of Tomoya’s relationship with Nagisa; in fact, they have started to take a friendly interest in their relationship, as we got to see during this episode.
I also liked the Fuko reference that the animator did with Nagisa saying that she felt like someone had told her to call Tomoya by his first name before in the club room. It was a nice way of having all the Clannad girls together in the same room. :)
Even thought Sunohara did not appear too much in this episode, in the scenes that he did appear he delivered! The scene when he realized that the cute girl that was waiting for him was his little sister was funny and the scene when he was praying for his beloved h-magazines was so Sunohara. I really enjoyed all the Sunohara scenes in this episode.
The Bakery scene was hilarious! I loved that part of the episode so much! Mei and her “advertising” methods were pure genius!! It has been confirmed, awesomeness is something that runs in the Sunohara genes! :D
Regarding the scenes between minute 12:52 and minute 14:27…ROFL!!! I didn’t know that side of you Tomoya! Tomoya’s imagination is extremely wild indeed!!:D
I also enjoyed all the scenes with Sanae’s bread, they were hilarious!! Sanae’s bread is truly something to be feared!
Nagisa calling Tomoya, Tomoya-kun was so cute!!! :) I like all the girls in Clannad, but all the cute things Nagisa did in this episode made me like Nagisa a little more than the other girls. Tomoya and Nagisa’s date was cute, sweet and funny all at the same time. But my favorite parts of the whole date were: the Cinnamon roll scene, the holding hands scene and last but definitely not least, the “I’ll always be with you” scene. Episode 23 has become another one of my favorite episodes. With this episode concludes the first season of this amazing series (well there is one more episode in July but you know what I mean) and begins the painful waiting for the second season. Overall, the first season of Clannad was amazing, the animation, the voice actors, the characters, the music, the plot, the emotions, everything about the first season was great! Clannad has definitely become one my all-time favorite series.

Don't freak out, and lose the extraneous question marks. Not that important. :p
OTP. aka "One True Pairing" (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OTP)
Well for one the most impression i got was the "Tomoya&Sunohara" fantasy, i was practicaly laughing on the floor whenn Tomoya starting to fantasize, the imagination was over the top, best comedic scene from the serie for me.
On a more serious note, i find this single episode portrayed more/better from the "character" of Nagisa then even the whole 22 ep before. Nagisa's moe-factor just skyrocket.

Whoa INCEST FTW! I was also turned on! Maybe I should start searching for Sunohara X Mei doujinshi. That will really take the family theme of clannad to the wrong end.
at first i was turn on.... but then...
aaaaaaaaaah yaoi, my eyes, it burns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111
good and relax episode. Feel bad for Sunohara, sister come here but seem never play with him.
Tomoya and Nagisa after the confession still no progress yet, their friend sure worry, at the end everything seem to be fine.
Akio still same, very funny, best man and daddy.
Best part of episode, the BL scene of Tomoya and Sunohara, oomg, :heh:
When Nagisa said Tomoya-kun, Tomoya himself feel so damn shock, :heh:
look forward to ep24.
and the most important is the preview, oh YEAH!!!!!!!! CLANNAD After Story is under development :D, the preview BGM was really nice, I can feel the sadness.

Fantastic episode...everything I've come to expect and more from CLANNAD. Although to be honest, I'm not sure why they didn't just make this the official ending as apposed to 22. I don't suppose it matters. Anyhow, with the announcement of the after story, our worries have been neatly laid to rest. Kyoto Animation and Key deliver yet again. Here's to more CLANNAD in the near future.

Needs Sunohara spinoff.
Great episodes++ Mei-chan is awesome
I find Nagisa really cute when she's making Tomoya say "I want a bite" :D
Sunohara is seriously under appreciated....
Hope to see him treated better in season 2.

Ahaha [Epic Lulz] FTW :heh:. 10/10
And so Clannad (season 1) ends on a pretty high note.
Anyway, Mei didn't leave yet, right? If so, then come fast July and bring out [Baseball]! Seriously though, as a romance/drama representative, Clannad has an abnormally high number of top notch comedy scenes. Not that it's a bad thing :).

But it's a good thing, since it's more slice of life than just pure romance. It needs that "real" touch to it I'd think and since they characters fit into it without really forcing the funny out it's pretty dang awesome.

If anyone ever asked me for an example of moe to help define it this would defiantly be it...Gah my brain nearly melted from Nagisa's obscene amount of cuteness. :heh:
Absolutely can't wait for AS. ;)
I couldnt stop laughing when Tomoya was fantasizing XD
Perfect 10!

That's why the Okazaki-Sunohara duo is one of the best lead-sub character combos ever :heh:.

It's in the scene where Tomoya and Mei are talking in Youhei's room. Just after Nagisa knocks on the door and enters, Mei says "Speak of the devil!" since she just started talking about Nagisa when she knocked. But it's really referring to Mei's seiyuu, Yukari Tamura, and her past vioce role as Nanoha Takamachi, who was nicknamed "White Devil". That nickname was taken from the nickname for the first Gundam.

Oh, I thought it was some line Nanoha said from A's or Strikers. :heh:

I echo what CrowKenobi said. I highly doubt it's a reference to MSLN, since it would be too oblique.
Cheers.

It's an American idiom, so it wouldn't be known to those outside.
Its stem is "Speak of the devil and up he pops!" or something similar.
So Mei appeared as they were speaking of her.

Japanese: "うわさをすれば影” (uwasa o sureba kage), which translates to "Gossip (about someone) and he will appear."
It's good to see CLANNAD end on a comedic note, which is was what throttled the show into what it is today.

Is it safe to say that Nagisa's parents have basically accepted Tomoya? I know they accepted him as a cherished friend at the beginning but i cant help but to think they knew Nagisa and Tomoya would end up together. Since Tomoya is so similar to Nagisa's dad.

It was pretty much hinted when they accepted to let Tomoyo live with them undefinitely.
This kind of situation is hardly similar to Fuuko or Mei, so it is quite natural from a good while.

I have rated this episode a perfect 10. The only time I have given out that rating to an episode in this series. All the building up of the characters throughout the main run had developed such a tight-knit feeling in this episode as per the CLANNAD title. Mei's (relatively fresh) role in this was absolutely awesome.
Looking forward to my Vol 8 DVD in July. :)

Having rewatched this episode in widescreen, I realized that the junk collector truck passing by the bread store in ~8:00 is the same junk collector that Tomoya would have worked with in the alternate universe in Tomoyo After.

You don't know what you're talking about because you haven't played the game.
However, you will see in After Story why it isn't possible for Nagisa to have an active role during the summer.

He HAS played the game, and it's anime-canon, not visnovel-canon.
Anime takes place over a much longer period of time than the game does. It'll still happen to her though, don't worry.

I consider this episode an alternative world episode, much like the Tomoyo OVA because during the entire summer, Nagisa is in bed. There's no way Nagisa can be having a date with Tomoya unless it's a parallel world.
It's pretty much that kyoAni adjusted the time line in order to fit in events outside of Nagisa route (like Kotomi's/Fuuko's route. eg. in the game Nagisa's play took place during the founder day festival, however in the anime it was Fuuko's little gimmicks that took place during that time, and Nagisa's play took place during another, later festival)
If anything, the whole Anime timeline takes place in a different world from the game's one.
