Mac user here. I followed the installer-free instructions and placed the English folder within the game folder. However, when I run Onscripter it states I'm missing music files and I've installed improperly. Last time I did this I copied the music folders into the English folder, but it doesn't work. I've also noticed that since switching hard drives the same applies to my Episode 4 and 6 as well where it did not do so before. How do I fix this problem?

I'd suggest using the Mac installer instead. The installation instructions for the installer-free patch are for Windows only.

Ah, okay. So I guess I'm almost half-way there, then.

I think I might have found another mistake... although there's a chance that it's not. Anyway, I took a screenie this time...

http://screensnapr.com/u/j6b7ko.png
Should that be Shanon and not Sanon? Or is Sanon the name of one the Stakes in their servant form?

EDIT: Yeah, pretty sure it's not a mistake... Maybe I should just be quiet, ha ha.

The name refers to a different servant, one whose name has not appeared in the story yet, but we don't actually know how that name is spelled or even pronounced. So, take Sanon with a grain of salt until we can find the real version from Ryuukishi.

First of all, big thanks to Witch Hunt for their work ^^

Anyway, I have one minor problem here. If I drag the window from my Macbook screen to external secondary monitor, pushing Cmd-F will always make the window going full screen on the primary screen, not secondary.

The workaround so far is setting the external monitor to be the primary one, or close the Mac's lid and put it on clamshell mode. However, doing either one of those sometime makes those many other opened windows change position (due to different resolution of the two screens, 1440x900 vs 1920x1080) so I have to close them all if I don't want to "recalibrate" their position & size.. and re-open them after the Umineko session ^^;

So I wonder, is there a more direct way to playing the game full screen on 2nd monitor?

I've forwarded your report to UncleMion, who maintains the ONScripter-En engine. She'll probably reply here soon-ish.

Thanks for letting me know about this. Unfortunately, the issue with fullscreen on multiple monitors is a limitation of the SDL library, so it'd require some major changes to fix it.

However, what you can do is run the game windowed with a larger width: if kanketsu creates (or edits) an "ons.cfg" file in the same directory as the patch (where umineko7.exe lives), and adds the following line to it:
window-width=1280
Then the game window will be larger if not quite fullscreen, and you can drag it to whichever monitor you choose.

Hope this helps your Umineko experience :)

Hmmm... it seems that the patch exe is not finding the images in the original game folder's arc.nsa. Do any sound effects play during the WH/07th logo or at that black screen? If so, then it somehow thinks the original files are there (since you don't get the "Missing game files" message), but can't open them... very strange.

Windows 7 does some tricky things with files installed into the Program Files folder. Is this a brand-new install, or did you install the 20%/50% patch before, and then reinstall the full patch over it? Or hm, you say you installed & then applied the patch... did you use the Japanese installer and then run the patch installer?

I'm assuming you used the Windows patch installer (as opposed to the installer-free zip); correct me if I'm wrong.

If you bought the Hobibox EP7 download, the EP7 Windows patch installer will install both the full game and the patch for you. Did you instead get the Hobibox EP7 download and run its installer first, and then run the EP7 Windows patch installer?

If so - and since you don't have any saved games to worry about - I suggest you uninstall the entire game & patch, and then reinstall just by running the Witch-Hunt Windows patch installer. It will ask for the location of your Hobibox EP7 download & install it for you before patching.

Let us know if you have trouble reinstalling and if it works for you afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion uncle mion, I really appreciate it. But it looks like watching a movie with its window title bar intact, so I think I'll stick with the clamshell method for now.:heh:

Speaking of "major changes", I wonder if I can expect those be done for the 8th episode patch? :)

Played Umineko7 on Mac OS X... ran it via command-line to mess with window-width.

Dunno if it's been reported or if it matters so much but there were some [Warning]'s pushed out to the terminal. Never encountered them before in past releases so.... And they just look like misplaced words in the script?

***[Warning] Parse Issue at line 150289 (*umi7_12:1168) - command [it] is not supported yet!! ***
(String buffer: [it])

***[Warning] Parse Issue at line 191398 (*teatime_7:11298) - command [at] is not supported yet!! ***
(String buffer: [at])

***[Warning] Parse Issue at line 193785 (*ura_teatime_7:210) - command [then] is not supported yet!! ***
(String buffer: [then])

Not sure if they actually resulted in mistakes in what I read... mainly cause I wasn't paying attention to the game and the terminal at the same time... and I sometimes have a tendency to "fill in the gaps" subconsciously if there's a malformed sentence.. heh

Episode 7 includes episodes 5 and 6 (all of Chiru so far), so you don't have to worry about that.

Alternately, if you have patience you could just import Episode 8, which will be released in 9 days or so at Comiket. Since it will have episodes 5, 6, 7, and 8, it might save you some money in the long run: http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=TVG-PC-0261&template=default/product/e_display.html

In ???? tea party, when Battler asks Ange why is she so sad, she answers with:
"Today, a kid in class bullied me...... He said that Mom had ties to some bad people. (and so on)
While in the original it was:
今日、クラスの子にいじめられたの……。テレビで、お母さんは悪い人たちと繋がりがあったって 。
I see テレビで (on television) , so it's not just the kid who said that to her (or maybe he heard that there). The fact that this theory is discussed in talk shows could be important, in my opinion, and should be mentioned.

Just open up terminal:
cd "/Applications/Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru/Umineko no Naku Koro ni Chiru.app/Contents/MacOS"
./ONScripter --window-width 1280

Note that you can also create a plain text file called "ons.cfg" in the Umineko folder with the following line:

window-width=1280

Replace 1280 with whatever width you want.

The "Custom Configuration" section of the ONScripter-EN help (under the Help menu on Mac OS X) has more information on creating the ons.cfg flile.

This might be a bit trivial but I figure due to the nature of the scene it might be worth changing.

http://i56.tinypic.com/wwku8h.jpg

Since she's contemplating over which 'L' is the correct one to remove, when she says she chose 'the right one', it could also sound like she knows immediately that the 'L' she chose was correct. But this probably means she removed the 'L' on the right side, yeah? Like I said, it might not be a huge deal since the meaning is implied as being the direction, but it can be read the other way. Maybe if it were something like "I decided on the rightmost 'L'", or "I decided to remove the 'L' on the right side' or something.

By the way, is there going to be a patch for the Question arcs before EP8 patch? Will you make a post-EP7 patch or will you save the corrections to when you have the full picture (I think you'll be able to read EP8 quite soon anyway)? Basically, is the final Question arc patch going to be released before EP8 patch for mystery-solving? I was wondering if it will contain something crucial people new people should know about so they don't get the wrong idea. I don't know if they're going to be keen on the epitaph, but anything new including/excluding the epitaph translation?

Thanks again for all the hard work, and Merry Christmas to all of Witch-hunt. And the community. ;)

You can skip text by pressing "ctrl" on your keyboard. Or you can press the space bar and it does the same thing as if you clicked it. The F1, F2, etc buttons also change the text speed. I don't think there is an auto-read option or anything.

You could have accidentally set your text speed to the maximum. To change the text speed, try pressing 1,2 or 3. These numbers will change your text speed. (I don't know the specifics, but there should be some sort of Read-Me that came with the translation dealing with the controls of the game).

I've been using on-scripter patch, and it was working fine until I accidentally pinned it to the start menu. I unpinned it, but since then whenever I open on-scripter, it goes closes as soon as I load or try to play a game. Where I saved the game might be the problem too, I'm not sure. The Japanese game is working just fine, it's the patch that's having problems. I'm all the way at the part where Kyrie is first introduced in the family conference.

I tried rebooting and reinstalling the patch. Didn't work. I have Windows 7, and my locale is ALWAYS set to Japanese.

Japanese pronounces are hardly relevant though.

They pronounce it "Shiesta" because that's exactly how every Japanese would read the katakana. In the same way if you were to rely on pronounces you'd call the main character "Batora", but the intended romanization is Battler. And Virgilia is not only pronounced as Warugiria but even written as Warugiria in the anime, and yet the correct romanization is Virgilia.

It happens in both Japanese and Spanish version of the game. I've already read the entire episode, and when I tried to copy it to another computer i noticed it wasn't working in any of the 2 computers. Until then it was working fine.

This issue emerged when we did our last revision for Episode 1-4. it is very likely the coding/encoding screwed for some reason, leading to uncommented lines to be visibile whereas they shouldn't. We will fix that along with our revision to put the hints in line with Episode 7.

I know this is a stupid question, but I want to ask. In Chiru, will you combine all the patches just like you did the first time?

Artixv, you don't need to install the game before the patch. Just use the EXE version of the patch and either insert your disc or select your UMINEKO6.exe file if you have the download edition when the patch installer prompts you to do so. It will handle the installation of the game without requiring you to change your computer's locale.

The only reason to use the installer on the disc or to run the UMINEKO7.exe file directly is if you want to be able to play the unpatched game in Japanese, in which case you'd need your computer's locale set to Japanese for anything to work. But judging by the title of your image, that's not what you're trying to do.

Is there any statistic regarding how much copies Umineko sold since ep1, maybe divided by episode? Of course i mean the Sound Novel, not the ps3 port nor the anime.
It's just a curiosity of mine.

Hi all! I've been trying to download the episode 7 english patch lately and I kept on getting this message:

"Unable to increment global counter, please contact the system administrator."

I was able to download it last night but then when I ran the file I got the ''Installer integrity check has failed....'' message. So I wanted to re-download it and now this. D:< Help?

EDIT: Tried all other links even including the question arc patch and I still got the same (error?) message except for the Episode 1 demo version. This is getting a little frustrating.

Yes, there seems to be a problem with the file hosting system. We'll try to get it fixed as soon as possible.

@Almazluverdis3: It seems a few users have been having trouble extracting the exes on Windows 7. We're working on figuring out that problem too.

I see, so it's the file hosting that has a problem and not my internet connection. I've been resetting my connection like mad until I read that, lol.

Thanks in advance!

My apologies for the screw-up. I was working on the backend yesterday evening and I failed to test the downloader properly. And older line of code was clashing with the changes I made to the database. (Note to self: Always follow good coding practice, even if it looks ugly.)

I've fixed the problem, all downloads should be working now. Thanks for reporting the issue!

I posted this last time when EP7 was about to come out, but I thought I should post it again for EP8.

I use Translation Aggregator to lift the text out of Umineko and do instant dictionary look-ups. This can be a pretty good aid for people who have some basic understanding of Japanese grammar, but lack the vocabulary. People use these tools to run the text through automatic translators, although I wouldn't recommend that.

Note: Hongfire pages may not be safe for work, or at least their ads. At the very least you may get strange stares from co-workers or family; just get in and out quickly. 8)

Translation Aggregator (It comes with AGTH already)
http://www.hongfire.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=175026

If you want to read the details on it's this thread: http://www.hongfire.com/forum/showthread.php?t=94395

You will also need the EDICT dictionary
http://ftp.monash.edu.au/pub/nihongo/edict2.gz <-- Save As to <Where you stuck TA>\dictionaries

Hidden for length:

Step 1. Unzip everything in the Translation Aggregator into a director. Say.. <My Documents>\TA. Save that edict2.gz into <My Documents>\TA\dictionaries. Launch Translation Aggregator.exe. It should start up like this: http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/9066/step1pq.png

Step 2. I recommend getting rid of everything except for JParser. If you're interested in hilarious inaccurate translations, try putting up Google and Honyaku, but be aware that you're probably going to be misled if you depend on them. Fool around with the fonts and the other options and make it look how you want.
http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/9574/step2p.png

Step 3. Making it launch Umineko. I will use EP7 as a demonstration, but you'll have to redo these steps for when Umineko EP8 comes out. Go to Tools -> Launch Text Hooker and set it up like this:
http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/7612/step3u.png
Notice I've pressed the "..." button and gave it my Umineko EXE. No real other changes need to be made though. When you hit OK, it will launch Umineko and AGTH.

Step 4. Start playing the game and let some Japanese text appear on the screen. AGTH should be able to read the text and you'll see the text appear in its window. If it doesn't, click the drop down box there and select some of the other TextOutA windows and see if it contains the right text from the game. Like this:
http://img842.imageshack.us/img842/3546/step4d.png
Translation Aggregator should read from AGTH (or in actuality the clipboard) and JParser should parse up the sentence. Mouse over stuff you don't know, like this:
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/1396/step5u.png

Step 5. Play Umineko normally, but in Japanese. When you want to come back to the game, don't start Umineko directly, start Translation Aggregator. Go back into Tools -> Launch Text Hooker. You'll see that there's an entry under Profile Name for Umineko 7 now; use that and press OK to get back into the game.

And that should be it... for now.

We don't know enough to comment on the fighting game yet, but we do hope to release a patch for Tsubasa at some point. At this moment, we have no idea whether either of those will be available for download sometime in the near future, but it would be great if they were.

As long as you tell them to give credit to 07th expansion, change the logo a bit and the opening song, I don't really see anything wrong with a fan game. :/

(Actually, some of the composer's in Umineko like -45 and (I think) Dai actually have sort of a "creative commons" policy with their music. You just have to give them credit in a free game. But, composers like ZTS―pretty much copyrighted.)

(Edit) Scratch that, I don't even think you need to change the logo so long as you give credit and it's a freeware.

I have read more info about that project on their pages and I just see it as a fanmade homage of series they liked.

I have been moderator of forums for animes for a while and I have to say that there is not difference between this and the millions of fics that there are everywhere on the internet about every anime/manga or Vns all around. There are umineko fics already. There is even Renpy fan made games based on higurashi (http://vndb.org/v67).

Yeah it may seems too similar in some aspects to umineko but isin't that the problem of fanfics authors or even original authors when they start writing? to write maybe too similar plot to the stories they liked.

I think it is stupid to complain about their work. It is just another Ren py fangame. As all that already exist.

SonozakiUshiromiya
2010-12-30, 18:40
And work with the character designs a little. One of the characters is an older, big breasted Natsumi Kimiyoshi(Higurashi manga). I agree with Golden Dream, but I wish these guys could have been a bit more original. EDIT: And had tried to contact R07 about this. The fan translators run everything by him, if these guys are going to copy his work, homage or not, they should at least talk to the man.

Sherringford

Did you check their forums? They seriously have a character named "Sonozaki Rena" in their game. I don't think the point was to be original. It's an homage with a bunch of random memes and tropes.

Nah guys leave them alone. It's just a silly fanfic parody. They're not hurting anybody with it because it's free. And I don't think it's meant to be taken seriously. They're just kids trying to have some fun.

Vylen
2010-12-30, 19:55
It's a doujin of a doujin franchise... At least, you can certainly think of it that way.

Bringing these spanish guys into question should also bring the doujin creators from japan into question - they obviously wouldn't pass everything by Ryuukishi, and they make some sort of profit.

And, as much as they have non-creative parts, they still have their own character designs and whatnot. Seems like there's some nitpicking going on just to "vilify" them in some way.

Just my 2c.

A reminder: As long as people do not present "Umineko's story" modified by any means, it is fine.
In fact, 07th expansion never raised any objection towards fan made material, as long as they take responsibility for it (copyright etc).

The only problem -I- could have here is if they use any of the original BGM, opening, ending or inserted songs, assuming they are selling it or not putting the copyright to their respective composers.

That's all for it. Let's drop this subject altogether, as it really doesn't have anything to do with us or 07th expansion at all (and none of you have the right or position to accuse or defend them).

"I could care less" is an idiomatic expression that means the same thing as "I couldn't care less" (http://idioms.thefreedictionary.com/could+care+less); even if it seems illogical, it is still a valid saying in English.

This isn't the only cliche that doesn't stand up to logical scrutiny - how about "head over heels in love"? Isn't "head over heels" the normal human condition, nothing special? Yet it gets used, while "heels over head in love" ends up sounding wrong to native English speakers.

In any case, no reason to pull out the torches & pitchforks, folks ;)

The difference is that "could care less" is an accidental butchering of an existing phrase, "couldn't care less", that means the exact opposite of what the person using it is trying to say. "Could care less" is not a cliche or even commonly used (it developed solely in America, and in the last 50 years), it's a mistake based on something else.

In Google, "Couldn't care less" gives 8.32 million results. "Could care less" gives 1.68 million, and most of the early ones are specifically pointing out the fact that it's a nonsensical mistake and explaining the correct usage.

Also, falling head over heels refers to actually flipping upside-down, and does make sense derived from that. Even if it were a corruption of another phrase, it would be one that's been out of usage for hundreds of years. It's not a corruption of an idiom that is still in usage, and is far more common and actually says what it's supposed to say. Particularly as the alternative makes sense to all the players in countries that haven't adopted the stupid version. There's no reason not to fix it.

I think you are being too much grammar nazi considering this a dialog and not a narration.

It's as if you asked to change "Will do" or "No can do", because the correct English form requires a subject and an object.

Those are things that people commonly say in their everyday life, they are wrong, but it's not unusual to hear them. So the dictionaries correctly show both forms.

To sum it up:

It's a narration or description: you must definitely write it in a correct English.
It's a dialog: Idiomatic expressions are acceptable.

While you make a good point, a lot of people (see google top results, as mentioned) will find 'could care less' to be extremely jarring. So unless for whatever reason the speaker's intention is to make his discussion partners cringe, I believe 'could care less' should probably not be used.

You could, but it wouldn't make much sense, and regardless, the phrase stands up to scrutiny just fine unless you try to alter the meaning. It's supposed to mean that it's not possible to care less.

"Could care less" is a corruption of "couldn't care less" and not an idiom that developed on its own with an alternative implied context.

By the way, ever heard of Crestfallen Studios?

Well... I don't think you could say about any idiom that it developed on its own. The reason we read "I couldn't care less" as we do is because we're accustomed to it. Which is why I don't have a problem with "I could care less"; yes, it's a corruption, but if you think about it, most idioms are. But anyway, yeah, I think we're going off-topic here... let's leave this matter to the experts.

About Crestfallen Studios, nah, you don't. I've been reading that board for years and I just recognized your name (you made a post about Umineko there a while back, too). But I'm a lurker so I never actually posted anything. Glad to see I guessed right. :)

Klash has implied they'll take a hiatus after Episode 8. But they've never said they wouldn't translate the other stuff or anything. (Knowing Chronotrig, I think he'll decide to translate it all from scratch though instead of editing the existing translations of the Tips.) The internet's collective passion for arguing which is the correct version of this phrase is starting to border on pathetically amusing. We may as well be trying to decide whether vi(m) or emacs is better.

I've always read "couldn't care less" as the literal version and "could care less" as a sarcastic variant and am fine with either, with slightly different connotations.

Alongside the main series, Ryukishi07 has also written some extra tips outside of the games. Some more serious ones may be considered canon, but the rest should not be taken too seriously. All these are to be released on December 31, 2010 as a sound novel compilation called Umineko no Naku Koro ni Tsubasa (うみねこのなく頃に翼?, lit. When the Seagulls Cry Wings) alongside the eighth game, Twilight of the Golden Witch.

I don't think this was mentioned in this thread before.

Looks like there was a fix in the text. It's right after Shannon turns down Beatrice's invitation to an eternal tea party.

In Episode 7's game:

In Episode 8's game:

I was wondering why Gaap's name was mentioned there :) Good thing I didn't waste too much thought on it.

You would need to delete the "global.sav" file that is located in the application data folder in your documents and setting folder (either the admin one, or the user one where umineko is installed).

Hey, the Witch Hunt admitted it's not the most perfect fan translation of anything. There are several awkward phrasings and some overlooked errors (I couldn't list them, though). But I'll be damned if it didn't help us understand exactly was going on, which it does. If it's an error, it's just something that happens.

Of course, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be reported. There's only so much proofreaders can catch. Reports by readers help to improve quality.

Sorry, didn't know oversight feedback is seen on with dislike around these parts,
I must have worded something wrong, because I didn't mean to imply anything negative regarding the quality of the translation
(which i find to be very solid, mind you).
it won't happen again and i apologize for my lack of manners.

There is nothing to apologize for, and as far as I see, you didn't insult anyone.
Reporting typos and oddly constructed sentences are very much encouraged anyway.

I may be reading this wrong, but it sounds odd.
I think that this made you sound you like you expected a perfect translation, and I believe that it's what immblueversion meant, though I may be wrong.

I see, I was merely suggesting that i may have just misunderstood the line,
thereby thinking it was wrong. But i guess i worded it badly and came off as rude in the process.
Which is kind of ironic, since i added that part to make sure as to not come off as such by stating the possibility that it may just be a mistake on my end.
Oh well, nobody's hurt, right (well, except my reputation)? so let's move on.

We didn't make any patch that is compatible with Episode 8 game yet. That's in our plans, just as usual.
Nothing prevents you to use our last patch on Episode 8, but there is no guarantee that the patch won't have any bizarre instances due to possible game structure changes.

I don't know if people knows this, but the majority of Tsubasa is translated here:

http://umineko.wikia.com/wiki/TIPS

It's missing at least 3, one that again involves Zepar and Furfur with Jessica (there are two episodes that they appear together), one related to one of the assistants of Dlanor (the less experienced) and the Butterfly Kiss part is incomplete, missing some translations from dialogue and other Valentine letters, like Mammon, Siesta556 and both Zepar and Furfur.

So what exactly did you alter in the Epitaph explanation?

Klashikari
2011-01-07, 13:50
The whole discussion with Will and Bern regarding that Kanji reading.
Initially, you had that Kanji that could be read as capital, and only afterwards, with that reading, you can have another Kanji that leads to the word you need for the solution.

Of course, we just cannot shove to people an epitaph without a specific word. Therefore, the whole discussion about that word was reverse engineered: instead of having "Ougon no Kyou" being discussed how its meaning can change, we had to use Capital, turn it into a Kanji, then another one.

It is basically as if we were removing a step in the resolution and reversed its process. If you were to look at this explanation from a japanese perspective, it just looks extremely weird, but it was either that or a very convulated narrative so we chosed the less jarring method.

Jan-Poo
2011-01-07, 15:52
So what exactly did you alter in the Epitaph explanation?

A bunch of new lines were added, including additional graphics to explain the tenth twilight as it was changed in the English version.

Basically if a Japanese with English reading competence were to read that part as it is shown in the witch hunt version, he'd get a very big help in getting to the right path.

But for an English speaker with poor or no competence in Kanji reading, it would still be almost impossible to make the whole reasoning, but that's how it is the original for a Japanese.

Anyway this hint isn't even strictly necessary after EP4 and it could be entirely overlooked.

Anti-Mystery vs Anti-Fantasy was more or less a letter from Ryukishi addressing his readers. Translating that 4th walling into the game would have been difficult, so I'm guessing he left it out for that reason. Likewise, Closed Room Murders was Beatrice addressing the reader as well. Think about how Bern was seemingly talking to us in the tea parties for EP 1-3. It would be confusing.

Plus, Tsubasa was released with EP 8, so those TIPs are a bit pointless now that the answer has been delivered. Anti-Mystery vs Anti-Fantasy was written around the time EP 4 came out, so you're talking two years and Closed Room Murders was written before even that I believe.

I hope I'll get it as fast as you did, which would indeed mean in about a week. I did pre-order it though, hope it doesn't complicate things, I don't think it should, but who knows. Never pre-ordered anything from the internet before, but at least AmiAmi's system seemed easy enough.

To Vylen, I got the e-mail that said my order has been shipped today (about 5 hours ago). They might be exaggerating the time, if we believe Jenq's experience with it, so they wouldn't get blamed if it would indeed take that long. Though they should just say 1-6 weeks or something so people could get more hopeful. And I didn't use EMS because I don't get much more money than about 20€/a month, so I like to save. Did pay the small fee for registration though, just to be sure...

I was also scared about PayPal taking too long, as the transfer of money from bank account to the PayPal one took 3 days already. Seems like AmiAmi got my payment in about half that time, though (which might have also been affected by their holidays). I don't have much experience, but if they'll get your payment as fast as mine, you just need to have sent the money yesterday or something. They have 24 hours to get your payment right about now if the deadline is 12.1. at 23:59. I hope it turns out okay for you.

Will the Ep5 to Ep7 for Ep8 compatibility patch contain a bit of Ep8 translated again (like in most of them where there was a so called Demo - except for Ep7 there it was actually quite a lot that was already translated there).

Btw. Tsubasa und Ep8 arrived today.

Btw.2 does the fighting game have any story. If so, is there anyone making a translation for that one?

We always do a compatibility patch with some teaser along the way.
For the moment, chrono is quite busy with his job, so there isn't much update for the moment but it won't take long.

As a damn last reminder: yes, we are planning to translate both Tsubasa and Ougon, but -only- after Episode 8 is done or when our progress allow us to work on these 2.
Episode 8 is still our highest priority.

Please people take the time to at least read a couple of pages back before asking questions. Btw.2 does the fighting game have any story. If so, is there anyone making a translation for that one?

Depends on the characters you pick. It's one of those typical arcade campaigns where each character (or in this case, each specific pair of characters) has their own story and conclusion that are irrelevant to the others within the game.

Recurring plot elements in the campaigns are loosely based on things that appear in EP3 and EP4 (Battler fighting Evatrice to get the gameboard back for him and Beato, Ange trying to save Battler from Beato so he can return to her, etc.). And some are just humorous in nature (Siesta 410 trying to find her stolen "super carrot", Beato getting her title as Game Master stolen and literally crying like a baby to Virgilia about it, etc.) and are really just for fun.

I kind of doubt that making a translation patch for that game will be as easy as the sound novels, though.

ghost_zero5
2011-01-12, 14:14
That is why I asked. I looked back about 5 pages and though Tsubasa was there, I didn't see one for the game.

Not to mention that I didn't expect Witch-Hunt to also translate the game. For once, because it is probably not as "easy" as the sound novels. With easy meaning on "how to translate" not the translation.
Translation-wide the sound novels should be way more complicated.

That being said I want to thank Witch-Hunt for all their work regarding this.
Especially, since we are coming to an end to the Umineko saga - maybe there will be a new one sometime afterwards.

Btw. maybe information regarding that you are also planning to do Tsubasa and the game should be "added" to the first post.
Should make it easier to find...

Haven't said thanks for the EP7 translation so: Thanks~! :P

Anyways, I transferred the translation people on AS did and made a patch for Umineko Tsubasa.

Edit: Did 2 stories, Story 1 and 6.
http://www.mediafire.com/?4qok7kb9vl910e9

There's an untranslated line in Story 6. I could attempt my own translation, but I thought I'll just leave it in.

This one contribution I'm comfortable in doing. Since I wont be exposed to spoilers. >_<
I'm gonna try to insert other text for the TIPs that has already been translated, but first of all, do you guys mind? >_<

I wasn't sure where to ask this, but is there way to take a screenshot while reading the VN other than doing the usual 'Prt Scr' key?

Probably, but you can use Alt + Prt Scr if you just want a pic of the active window.

That would be much easier than getting some other software to do it (I assume you're using Windows).

This is pretty nice. Since Witch-Hunt staff is currently busy with EP8, their Tsubasa patch is probably still far off, as well as Ougon, so having someone else make a patch for Tsubasa would be a good way to pass the time until EP8 is translated.

Witch-Hunt would probably do Tsubasa even if someone else does it, so I don't think it'd matter if another translation were floating around.

And besides, it's not like Witch-Hunt™ owns Umineko, so it's not like you have to ask for permission in order to translate (In this case, just copypasting some translations previously made) something out of your own accord.

Well, I thought that it would ease W-H's work just a little...

But I guess the eventual release use a brand spankin' new 4-years-of-doing-Umineko-experience-full translation instead of the old err.. community-collaboration ones, huh?

So far, I just put in TIP translations by theacefrehley, who also did some of the chapters for EP1 patch and maybe EP2... I think. >_>

Not only is it not a problem, but we've been considering asking someone outside the core group to start adapting those. I'd like to re-edit those tips some time in the future, but since the translations are out there already, it'd be a waste not to have them inserted, especially with the EP8 translation likely to take so long. Me and a friend did make some extra tip patches once. I remember we fixed up the community translations a good deal to make it better to read. If you want, I can insert our translations for Bern's Letter, Tanabata and Lambda's memoirs.

They're in the latest patch, in a txt file.

Here:
Love is an illusion, a misunderstanding.
Mutual love is a mutual misunderstanding of being mutually loved.
And engagement is a vow to not wake up for your whole life from that misunderstanding.

Umineko no Naku Koro ni Tsubasa
Umineko no Naku Koro ni Tsubasa (うみねこのなく頃に翼?, lit. When the Seagulls Cry Wings) is a fan disc compilation of additional tips written by Ryukishi07 outside of the games, released on December 31, 2010 alongside Twilight of the Golden Witch. Several of the stories are humorous in tone, but the more serious ones may be considered canon.

Letter of BernkastelA letter Bernkastel writes to the player which contains her musings and speculations on the rules XYZ in Umineko. It ends with a couple of poems, one written by Ronove, and one written by Frederica Bernkastel.

The Witches' Tanabata Is Sweet (魔女達の七夕は甘くない, Majo-tachi no Tanabata wa Amakunai?)
Beatrice grants a wish for Maria, and Bernkastel grants a wish for Ange. The latter event shows Bernkastel as a cruel, ruthless witch.

Game Master Battler (ゲームマスター戦人, Gēmu Masutā Batora?)
While he is making Dawn of the Golden Witch, Battler is approached by all the other characters, who are willing to do anything to get a bigger role in his game.

Jessica's Mother's Day Present (朱志香の母の日プレゼント, Jeshika no Haha no Hi Purezento?)
On Mother's Day, Jessica makes a contract with Furfur and Zepar in order to bear the burdens of her mother.

Jessica and the Love Charm (朱志香と恋のおまじない, Jeshika to Koi no Omajinai?)

Memories of the ΛΔTalks about Lambdadelta and her history of granting wishes.

Notes from a Certain Chef (ある料理人の雑記, Aru Ryōrinin no Zakki?)
Talks about Gohda's past. This tip shows that red circles appear before the murders have even started.

Labor Thanksgiving Day Gifts (勤労感謝の日の贈り物, Kinrōkansha no Hi no Okurimono?)

The Seven Sisters' Valentine (七姉妹のバレンタイン, Nana Shimai no Barentain?)
Ronove gives chocolates to the Sisters of Purgatory and instructs them to give them to those who are foremost in their hearts. Asmodeus is the first to give away her chocolate, giving it to Amakusa. Beelzebub chooses Gohda so he can make her a superior dish for White Day. Mammon gives her chocolate to Sakutaro and plans to share it with Ange. Belphegor and Leviathan give their chocolates to Rudolf and Kyrie, respectively, out of admiration due to their encounter in Banquet of the Golden Witch. Satan attempts to give her chocolate to Kanon, but is rejected and driven away by Jessica. Lucifer fails to find anyone and is scorned by her sisters until Battler comes and accepts her chocolate. Beatrice later receives the same chocolate from Ronove and tries to give hers to Battler, passing it off as her own, but Battler, recognizing it as the same chocolate as Lucifer's, accuses Beatrice of stealing from Lucifer (believing that Lucifer made her chocolate herself).

Beatrice's White Day (ベアトリーチェのホワイトデー, Beatorīche no Howaito Dē?)
The sequel to The Seven Sisters' Valentine, in which the Sisters of Purgatory receive presents from the persons they gave their Valentine's chocolate to for White Day. Beatrice, however, must cope with not receiving a present from Battler since she lied about making the chocolate she tried to give him on Valentine's Day. After Beatrice tries to make it up to him by making her own chocolate, Battler agrees to give her a present one month after White Day.

Cornelia the New Priest (新人司祭コーネリア, Shinjin Shisai Kōneria?)

Whose Tea Party? (だれのおちゃかい?, Dare no Ochakai??)
Bernkastel is invited to a Tea Party by Lambdadelta and Featherine. Bernkastel's journey to the Tea Party involves avoiding the traps set by Lambda and Featherine. Meanwhile, the hosts of the tea party make a bet on whether Bern will arrive or not.

Valentine Paper (バレンタインペーパー, Barentain Pēpā?)

To Mount Purgatory, Sakutaro (さくたろう、煉獄山へ, Sakutarō, Rengoku-san e?)
Sakutaro climbs Mount Purgatory to be reunited with Maria.

Arigato For 556

Other tips

These tips are not collected in Tsubasa, but were nonetheless written by Ryukishi07.

Important Facts About Magic (魔法についての重要事項, Mahō ni Tsuite no Jūyōjikō?)
About Anti-Mystery and Anti-Fantasy (アンチミステリーとアンチファンタジーについて, Anchi Misuterī to Anchi Fantajī ni Tsuite?)
Explains and speculates the concepts of anti-mystery and anti-fantasy in full detail.

The Story of Coffee (コーヒーのお話, Kōhī no Ohanashi?)

Why Are Closed Room Murders So Beautiful? (密室殺人はなぜ美しいのか。, Misshitsu Satsujin wa Naze Utsukushii noka.?)

Letter from a Summoner (召還師からの手紙, Shōkanshi Kara no Tegami?)

A Certain Witch Hunter's Interview Tape (あるウィッチハンターの取材テープ, Aru Witchi Hantā no Shuzai Tēpu?)

Yeah, you shouldn't really take the stuff in Tsubasa as canon, except maybe for some of the more serious ones like Gohda's backstory. Witches aren't limited by the date of Comiket to get their sadistic plots written :P

For those who were wondering, or who have been having trouble with downloads, Hobibox has just added a download resume function to their website.

So, if your connection is dropped while downloading EP4 or EP7, you should be able to resume from where you left off, instead of starting over. If you've been having any trouble with this, feel free to email us about it. If you're unable to resume a download, please let us know.

Oh, and the first EP8 compatible patch should be coming soon, probably within a week from now. The EP8 prologue might be translated by then, but we've been having a bit of a slow start.

What about the Valentine Letters? Were you able to finish the parts missing translation?

No, as said in the notes.

Wow, good job.
Can we use it for the Italian translation?

Although we are currently busy with Ep4... :p

Well, no need to ask me for that. :P
But if you're translating it from English, it's probably better to wait for a more edited version.

When I try to use the tsubasa patch I just get a black screen. What's up with that?

don´t use the file "arc.nsa" from the patch. if you are using the original file (from the game) it works.

I had a similar problem, Guro, although I did have sound. Copying the files from the fullsrc folder into the main game directory solved the problem. Though, that might be what BuuHuu is saying. Hope that helps!

There are two answers to your question, with links on the previous page. The program for extracting the scripts is called NSDec.

Wow, there you go making the exact same mistake, immediately after the first time. :twitch: This question has been asked and answered a dozen times already in this thread. Browse back a page or two.

Tsubasa is amazing... <3..

I still don't get why the love letters aren't completely tranlsated but whatever.

I still don't get it... No matter what I can't imagine who else Bernkastel would give a letter too. I mean the letter ends with two poems and Frederica is mention, yet there's a possibility that Frederica is Bernkastel or a piece like Ronove

:( Poor Sakutaro... but there's a possibilty, of course, which had been mention before, That Sakutaro is a singular enity because by the law = 'Made By Rosa Ushiromiya' but could just be a copy of another brand-name toy. But Just before the end... I think I saw Ronove's sprite... I wonder what will happen or is this before the end of EP4?

All and all it was nice... but it really didn't show anything new or at least not much, but has a great amount of fanservice...

A lot of it isn't really intended to be canon, I wouldn't read too much into it. Similar to Higurashi Rei, just kind of a "maybe, maybe not" situation.

Of course, if you're a fan of creating wild theories, go straight ahead :P
