I'm down in Los Angeles on some errands and scoured Little Tokyo for Soul Eater merchandise. Nada, zip, zilch. No shirts, no figures, no straps, nothing. The vendors all say they'd *LOVE* to have something from the series.

Couldn't even find knock-off shirts in Chinatown. Meh.... sounds like the merchandising angle got caught flat-footed.

yergh... just finished a weekend at the anime-con Kumoricon. No Soul Eater merch at all .... though the vendors were buried in Death Note and "the usual naru-bleached-piece" stuff.

Is there any differences between the broadcast and DVD versions or is it just the same....

There are *always* differences between broadcast and DVD content. And fansubs are often lossy in visual quality compared to DVD quality (though they make up for it with more capability in subtitling or with what some consider better translation).
Sometimes it is subtle, like just cleaning up animation or visual moments. Sometimes, its a change in editing to improve a scene. Sometimes its actually providing more fan-service or a bit beyond what television standards allow.

In the last few years, anime producers have really picked up on the idea that the DVDs provide more of the above as an incentive to buy them, sometimes by explicitly cutting back on the anime broadcast production elements.

dunno anything about that but its a pretty cool idea, its one stylish detail of the series that most stands out in the very first episodes, that i could use.

replying to imd_84; I like statues and posters, even though they are just for showing and you cant ove them around at ease, they stay ther, in your bedroom, living room wathever for people to see when they pass by them and for you, if you like to collect stuff, to make your little "homage" to something that you liked a lot. I tend to do that, collect cool items, that relate to games i've played, anime i've seen or movies.

BUT, i also like those items that you say are more functional. I hate rings, so thats out for me, but i could use those keychains chopki mentioned and something like those headphones justin uses. or a cool t-shirt with manga style drawing, not colered like the anime, i hate t-shirts with bright colors.

My one anime merchandise purchase that wasn't a DVD or CD was an FMA t-shirt. It actually fits nicely, as well as being a blatant indication of my fangirlish-ness over the series.

I do actually have one statue. It's an old Clarecraft Discworld one of the Librarian. I got it as a birthday present years ago, and love it.

When I was a student, I had a couple of anime posters up in my room (a generic Tokyopop one and a GiTS one). Took them down when family came to visit, though. They were nothing bad, but I felt embarrassed over having them up there.

About the posters.. I think it is no problem to have a few on the walls. On my bedroom or in my study I have a few posters: of master chief, The Matrix, kill bill, pulp fiction, star wars IV, cowboy bebop, last exile and guild wars; here and there. they dont embarass me.. but hey, i'm 18, by the time i own my own house i'll say how it actually goes LOL

There's no game thread so I'm posting here. About the DS game Soul Eater: Medusa no Inbou.

First thing was it wasn't a good first impression, still pics and such.

But when the fighting starts, wow lol, chibi 3D Maka is extremely cute lol!

And then I start killing things with the stylus, then I got reminded again, its Squareenix. And I'm killing things like what I did with Neku back at The World Ends With You.

Pretty decent game, I'm just at the start, I'm expecting more to come.

My god those figurines are HOT! How much did they cost and is the first vol set up the front of the picture or at the back?

I was hunting around in the comic stores in the city and I found a Black Star and Tsubaki poster. Unfortunately, no other characters (damn, I would have bought a Death the Kid or Maka/Soul OR Stein). However, it was a good quality and a very decent size (A2, anyone?).

This is good news for me. It means that Soul Eater merchandise is finally filtering through to Queensland, Australia.

Vol 1 consists of Black Star at the front, Thompson sisters and Maka,Soul,Kid at the back row. Rest are vol 2 (all the good looking ones are from vol 2 haha) Costs 100USD in total.

I suspect there'll be a vol 3 by end of this year, probably will have more bad guys. Kishin, Medusa, Arachane, Mosquito etc.. i hope there is a vol 3 at least..

Ah, be careful about magazine offers!
I don't know about in this case, but usually they won't send gift/award/prize items to addresses outside of Japan. So ordering the 2 Gangans to get the headphones would probably be a waste, unless you had someone in Japan who could accept and mail the headphones to you. But then, you might as well pay them to buy the issues, too :)

Yeah, that's for stuff that comes with an issue, and everywhere should send the item with the mag in that case. Amazon.jp, Akadot, ect...

'Cuz someone said you needed to buy 2 issues, it sounded like a mail-away offer and virtually 100% of those are Japan only.

But if it's just with the April issue, then they might turn up for sale by fans who don't want them. :) (I have a box of magazine bonus items I don't want and will sell someday, I know I'm not alone!)

That's so expensive.. isn't that piece licensed by Square Enix?.. You can find that model randomly it's also on Ebay for like $220 or something.....
