Maaya sounds like a whiny and twisted version of Haruhi (the Haruhi from Ouran, not the THE Haruhi ;P), it sounds perfect.

- Daily life scene gets a classic rock theme. Nice.

- Idiotic thugs are idiots.

- Bleeding moon = badass backdrop.

- Medusa sounds so deliciously EBIL. Thank you, Kuwashima Houko. Your work is always awesome.

- Another nice opera track, as to be expected of Iwasaki Taku. Keep this up and you're going into my list of god composers.

- Chrona is still so damn ambiguous. My trap radar is going haywire... orz

- Psycho Chrona is awesome. Thank you, Sakamoto Maaya. You is teh awesome too.

- Ragnarok's loud screech is loud. orz

- Long Maka and Soul scene is long. I dug the city soul searching simulation though.

- Deathscythe is still quite the paranoid one. Stein pwns him down too easily.

- Ragnarok is a creepy and abusive bastard. That voice fits interestingly well. Who's the seiyuu?

- Chrona blushing. Inner fangirl approves.

- Dayum Chrona's got issues. And dayum that opera track pwns.

- Creepy ambience BGMs are creepy.

- I have to disapprove of Maka's wide open fighting style. Even if her weapon doesn't really lend itself for such, she did a lot better in episode 1. Chrona's style, although always on the offensive, blends both offense and defense quite well with how erratic its movements are. But you can't really see this during the whole stabby-stabby part where all Maka does is evade. I'm judging pretty much only by their stances at this point.

- Cliffhanger is nice.Gimme the next ep already. The next fight should be an interesting one to watch.

Also don't forget the option that Chrona's gender could be different from the manga.

Most of the new BGM material from Taku in this episode reminds me a lot of his main stuff i've been hearing in Persona -trinity soul-. Knowing how to capture the dark atmosphere nicely thanks to past work.

I confess, I did go aheard and read this chapter from the manga so I knew what was to come :heh:

Nonetheless, seeing it animated was awesome.

Chrona has some serious mental problems imo...and that sword, it reeks evil! O.o

As for Chrona being male or female, in the manga I really thought that she was a she, but then she was addressed as a he. Now in the anime he also sounds like a he. Therefore I will go against my initial feelings and say that Chrona is a trap :heh:

haven,t read every chapter yet but i was under the impression that the more souls the have collected the stronger they become (or a least the weapon) in ep 1 Maka & Soul had 99 souls, how many did they have in this ep?

Well I'll agree Chrona is damn creepy. Seemingly a meister+weapon combo that is working for a witch. Not that crazy since if meisters are being used to take them out then countering with some of their own might make sense. Still Maka+Soul really ran into a tough opponent that they just couldn't handle.

Not that many capable of handling someone who is really resistant to regular cutting attacks. Plus if she tries to block with Soul runs into a problem like with Stein. Hard to fight when your partner is getting injured by the exchanges. Black Star just isn't around when his skills could come in handy.Stein+Maka's Dad arrive to the rescue :D. Guess wanting to save his daughter will allow him to even work with Stein one more time. Without a weapon the guy was overwhelming for Maka,Soul, and Black Star. Should be one hell of an episode.

There's a good reason for that though since at that point Maka didn't want Soul to take another hit, it's hard to fight defensively when you're trying to protect your weapon as well.

Yes I know about that. In fact, I think that Maka's evasive maneuvers in trying to protect both herself and Soul from Chrona's thrusts were quite good, not wasting any movements. But that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about her wide open stance and swings when she first goes on the offensive against Chrona, specifically after blocking Chrona's first strike and laying down the power slap. Maka went way aggressive in a wide downward swing, followed up with another wide diagonal swing to cut Chrona. Chrona's using a stance that permits for a very tight defense, while at the same time allowing a great capacity to dish out an array of offensive strikes. This is why Maka quickly changes to her usual closed stance after realizing that her cuts are ineffective against Chrona, hence parrying the shot with Soul that did quite a bit of damage to him.

Pretty much I'm saying that Maka's opening style at the beginning of her fight with Chrona was far too aggressive and open than her style in previous episodes. In episode one she was using defensive moves in very tight stances against Jack the Ripper, who used very wide swings in attacking her. There's also the fight against Blair, but a tight defense doesn't mean much against a spellcaster, so there's no complaints in using a more open style there. There was the fight against Sid, where she alternated between open and closed styles, depending on the situation, because of Sid's changing tactics. And then there's the fight with Stein, where Maka used a closed stance initially, then failed miserably when she tried to take him on with a wide slash. Although there's not much to really talk about with that fight, given that Stein wasn't trying to deal any serious damage to them at all, and that Maka was really losing her cool.

Whether Chrona be male or female the anime def makes you guess with her/his female like body and face but male voice and speech patterns. I like Chrona alot actually just based on this one epi. Medusa...whoa, she's interesting :heh:

I figured the end would be how it was though I didnt expect to see Soul actually shield Maka, when the blood first flew I thought itd be cut right there and we'd have to wait a week to see how got hit. This infact was better since Soul has said, he won't let anyone hurt his master.

It's a shame really, 'cause people going into episode 07 subbed are just going to think Chrona is male because of the subs, though there's no other way they could have gone about it.

WOW what a great set up and introduction episode i had to give this one a 9. Why did it feel so right to see Soul and Moka cruising around on bike.

Maaya's voice was definitely weird but i loved that huskiness and deep vibration in her voice im actually glad its a nice change for her. Chrona is just creepy weird and *&^% up in the head those eyes moving in random directions gives his/her character the im not all there look but i will stick your ass feel just works. Maka problem this time around was she so busy focusing on not getting Soul hurt she didnt keep her head where it needed to be in the fight. I cant blame her for being worried about her partner but Maka is usually really good at noticing her surroundings being trapped by that door is very unlike her. Unless she is ready for Soul to get hurt Fighting Chrona in close combat with her level of skill right now is just so ill advised. Kid and blackstar are more suited for this type of opponet (at from what i know about Chrona so far) Blackstar huge resonance attacks and Kids long range ability would work well.

Medusa of course had a very evil voice it was very fitting. One scene that stood out to be right away was right after Chrona had killed the gang the moon's mouth was dripping with blood that was freakin awsome i could help but to mention it and with Medusa sitting on her broom right in front of it the whole scene was salivated with evil very well done indeed.

OMFG STEIN VS CHRONA this its going to be a long week but it will be worth the wait

No appreciation for the BGM yet? You guys have to admit that one of the many reasons this episode is so good was because how the music's played. I mean the BGM when Maka first arrived at the church and open the door was just sinister, eerie and sad. Somehow the BGM opera is dedicated entirely to Chrona's insane personality, which is awesome .

I heard the guy that made the Soul Eater's BGM was also who made TTGL. Well then kudos to him.

Well thats kinda what I meant, I know there isnt a word in english but I was just kinda making an observation. I did notice Chrona uses Boku thats why I said the voice and the speech style make Chrona sound male, where as the body and face make a more female impression.

She didn't give up until Soul got hurt. She was less worried about damaging Chrona than she was about not being able to defend herself. If Chrona hadn't been able to hurt Soul when parrying, I'd imagine she'd have at least tried Witch Hunter.

I think Moka lost her confidence once she saw blocking hurt soul but even before that when she noticed Chrona's blood was his weapon and her attacks had no effect. honestly i dont think she knew what to do. I did agree that her witchhunter probably wouldnt have done much damage. I didnt like the whole battleground it was disadvantageous for her. Fighting Chrona in close quarters is not my idea of fun, getting outside with more space might have worked to her advantage. She could have dodged more easily without getting cornered and maybe could have mounted a counter attack as to how effective it would have been i dont think it would have been much. I do agree with Anh_Minh she could have tried another tactic but she panicked.

Can't wait for the next episode as it appears Stein is heavily involved. As for this episode I found it enjoyable but not one of my favorites. Chrona was entertaining escpecially with repeating that door line. At first I was wondering what Chrona was talking about that entire time, but it finally dawned on me when it was said during the Maka fight. Made me crack up.

great episode, this witch controls snakes instead of pumpkins! Interesting to have chrona's weapon live inside her instead of being free on the outside. sycthe vrs sword would indeed seem weak in a confined space. This is very easily my favorite anime currently.

This episode was so great. Chrono versus maka was great, and the character of chrona and medusa was really interesting. The preview was super badass too, with stein versus chrona =D however I can't help but think that the surprise could have been better left for the next episode, where there would be a greater shock factor, but nevertheless the hype buildup has left me wanting for more =) Can't wait for next episode.
