his voice isn't what makes him funny, it' his brazen arrogance. a heroic voice would just make it all the more funny.

I haven't seen the episode yet, so I'll wait until then to post my thoughts on Excalibur. While annoying is good, sounding heroic while still having that arrogance is funny as well,
To be honest, I was expecting something very flamboyant, like Urahara from Bleach or Sakamoto from Gintama (of course, those are by the same guy).
just finished watching it. i liked the facial expressions better in the manga, but overall they did a good job.
next episode is the demon blade arc. i wonder how they plan to end this series, cause so far they are still following the manga perfectly. will they redo the kishin arc? or where wil opt for another season.

The clip show showed it following the manga up to at least chapter 11.

EXCALIBURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!! This episode was so much better animated! So far soul eater is doing good as a series, only thing I don' like it how Soul looks, he's kinda of freakish, much cooler looking in the manga.

That was incredibly funny, I'm falling in love with this series.
Soul Eater is probably the best show this season for me, I enjoyed more than any other shows... I am not sure if this episode is a filler or what but it is amazing... lol at excalibur, sooooo funy....
I kept watching the part where they were 'interacting' with excalibur and just laughed over and over again XD
"Buwaka!!" I loooove his voice, it fits him so well when he does that. What a random little fellow~ XD

But really, I think it would have been so much better if his voice was actually annoying aswell. There was something lacking besides the "I'm not going to listen to you" front he keep putting on (and ofc the bakkkkka bit >.>).

Excalibur is compatible with ANYONE, you just have to do the 1000 things he request first -- which no one does because it's ridiculous. Also, weapons can also wield weapons, usually not done, remember in ep 3 when Liz and Patty kept transforming and switching because Kid had to run home to check symmetry to some dumb.

I dunno about annoying, but i thought that excalibur was absolutely hilarious. And i dunno, i just like his voice, whether its for the character or not i dunno, but i like how the voice sounds. Though I'm quite sure if this keeps up he will annoy me sooner or later =P
Another funny part was DS's inner mind conflicts when talking with Maka. Oh geez. Who the hell thinks so much when conversing with your own daughter o_O Either way, great episode.
even if excalibur's voice does not annoy, you'll reconsider that after relistinnig to his "BAAKA" over and over

I nearly died of laughter when they first showed what Excalibur looked like and you hear a little squeek sound. Maka's dad was also very funny this episode.

Kid and Black Star head out for their own reasons and in the end its a complete waste of time. You put something out there that would give Black Star the title of legendary hero and he's in. Of course the symmetry was solid so Kid was ready to go as well. At least it gave some kind of friendship being created with Black Star and Kid. They definitely have great partners in comparison to that crazy sword. Even Stein couldn't stand the thing :heh:.
Tsubaki really is amazing though. She just cleaned up that place to such a degree.

Excalibur was really just a one time thing as I believe he only came up again in an omake. Besides, if they had him on their side, they could defeat anyone so fast the series would be boring. And you'd just hate Excalibur more and more.

Maka is cute. Maka making Spirit suffer is cute. Soul better to not make Maka sad again or I'd pray Chrona kill him next time (I'm biased here).
About the adventure of acquiring the legendary godlike sword, Excalibur, I'm not interested to beign with so only wonder why Kidd doesn't use his skateboard but rides on Black Star.
I wonder if Tsubaki story will be one-episoded or two? It seems not enough time to deal that story within one.

I have not read the manga so I am not sure whether Excalibur and Pixie chan will be return again. But I do hope that happens.
I want my 'BUUAAKAA' and 'EXCALIBUUURRAA'.
Koyasu seriously was the best choice to voice Excalibur. I laughed so much at this episode --- plenty of rewatch value just for his voice alone.
Yup, I agreed with that. I think he hits the jackpot.. The voice itself wasn't annoying.. its the attitude, and he pulled it off beautifully.

I was really surprised that the library being a mess didnt get Kid all riled up :heh: Not surprised BS was reading manga instead of cleaning.
Omg DS little "chill up the spine turning cute" look when Maka called his name made me LOL, might have to request that as a gif XD Done. Maka raises a good point though, if he does love her mom the most why does he fool around? Im hoping one day we'll get to see Maka's mom (dont tell me if we do!! would be spoiler!).
Kid's face when they see Excalibur :heh: such a fanboy (ok did he walk across the water to get to it? or did BS carry him again?). Man I love him.
Edit: also "sword that pierces the heavens"... now if we only had a drill as well...

Ah see thats the problem with that fact that Ive only been exposed to his voice over the past few years (though Ive been an anime fan for going on 15 years as well) but only in the past few has anime gotten popular were I am so Im still behind in older anime/voice works. But he is one of my favs along with about 10 others :D

Funny enough, that's the scene i found to be the funniest from the whole episode. It probably has something to do with it being the first time we hear Koyau's voice. So much passion went into that line.

Blackstar and Kid dare i call them the new dynamic duo or just very VERY dynamic. Since Soul was out of action im not surprised they paired these two extreme personalites together in an episode. I mean sadly enough Soul is most normal one out the 3 and thats pushing it. Very funny moments and very annoying ones most having to do with Excalibur. Everytime Medusa smiles and that smoke snake comes out of her mouth i get huge chill up my spine.
I never touched on this but from the OP it looks like Medusa can actually physically fight too. I mean the scene is short but her moments look almost like a Capaweda style of combat.

I wouldn't say like FMA, more like most 50+ shows. Eureka Seven for example.
Do looking to seeing which artist they'll get for the new song. Shocking that we haven't heard anything about it yet.

Well it "looks like" it will be going for 4 cours so I think that it is (or hope) most likely that we will end up with 4 great OP/EDs :)
It's going to be very interesting to see how they catch up to the manga in any case :p

With the number of chapters and omakes released, they could end the series around chapter 45, and that's if it's one episode per chapter. I don't know what happens around that chapter, but there's enough manga material to last the whole running of the anime.

They may not follow manga closely from beginning to end. And current chapters arebasically opposite to the concept of stop point.

It's possible they could make a whole series and make it the first season, but I can't think there would be enough chapters out by the end to make a second season nor do I think they would keep up the great production values this series has at the moment.
How is this series doing anyway?
Ratings are low (2.0%-2.5%) but I think Soul Eater will sell more dvds than say Bleach/naruto/one piece.

Am I the only one who felt it was strange how black star and kidd suddenly became such good friends? It's like, just 3 episodes? ago they were fighting each other, and this episode from the start they seemed to treat each other nicely. Maybe its because of their common ambitions, hm.
I think its due to the fact that Kidd wasnt provoked in this episode.. Later on, when they embarked on the mission to find excalibur, their goal takes priority and finally, what they experience from excalibur himself made them closer :p
Still, given any chance, BS is definitely closer to Soul then to Kidd.

I actually liked that they kinda got a long and I agree with KiNA, Kid wasnt provoked. I mean in the earlier epi he arrives at school with BS out there waiting to fight him, not the best impression :heh: Plus it seems like alittle time has passed since Kid showed up. Im sure BS isnt high on his list of ppl he likes but also like KiNA said, they had a common goal and bonded over that but BS and Soul are def closer (even though they argue as well). And they both have a common dislike over Excalibur now (BAUKA!)
I did like the little handshake "we both have good partners" scene btwn Kid and BS.
Im sure BS tried to fight Soul at one point as well too :heh: He just seems like that type of person XD.

Don't think so. Soul can't really fight on his own, and fighting Maka would probably feel like picking on the weak to him.

Thats why I said tried to fight Soul :heh: And I never said Soul fought back, it was more a look into BS's personality. And remember Soul did take part in the battle with Kid even if BS couldnt wield him.

Excalibur and Sword in the Stone is usually considered two seperate thing, kind of hit me how they considered it the same; and according to Post-Vulgate Merlin, Excalibur was actually from the Lady of the Lake. Overall the humor didn't really catch me, didn't feel so well about this episode.

Sometimes Excalibur and the Sword in the Stone (the proof of Arthur's lineage) are said to be the same weapon, but in most versions they are considered separate. ~Wikipedia. According to Robert de Boron's Merlin, Excalibur was the sword that was pulled from the stone but according to Post-Vulgate Merlin, it was actually given from Lady of the lake. I just thought it was odd because people usually base it on the Post-Vulgate Merlin.

Sure, but Kid was using Liz & Pattie. It wasn't a fair fight against mismatched BS & Soul, let alone just one of them. Black Star barehanded might be a fair fight against Soul.

Pretty much most of the weapons have joke names or refrences to famous weapons, like Ragnarok, Excalibur, the Thompson sisters are a bit of both (a ref to the famous Thompson Submachine Gun aka "tommy gun")

Not to mention Dr. Franken Stein, Medusa the snake-witch, etc. The random Kishin eggs are Jack the Ripper, Al Capone, Sonson J. (this is Jason backwards, sort of, a reference to the Friday the 13th series of slasher movies). The bodyguard samurai is Mifune, a famous samurai movie director. Even Soul Eater itself has shown up in a few games as a scythe (PSO comes to mind).
Basically, the names that aren't references to things are the exceptions.

I didnt enjoy this episode . The follow up episode to 8 could have been better .

I know I'm kinda late, but doesn't Excalibur sorta remind you of that robot chicken from the future in Aqua Teen Hunger Force that just talks and talks nonsense until you just wanna stab yourself?^^
I liky this episode eventhough it was kinda different from your average SE episode...

I looked through the thread and was surprised that no one said anything about the beginning of the episode. I mean, WHAT THE FRICKIN' HELL??!!! SOUL BURSTS OUT OF MAKA'S SIDE?!! What does that even mean?!
It's a reference to Ragnorok's black blood, as Ragnorok is inside his Tech, Chrona. Soul's imagining himself like Ragnorok due to the effect the blood's having on him. Practically, however, he's not going to end up like that it's just going to affect his sanity thanks to his new devil friend, who presumably represents Kishin-esque madness/violence.

Just have seen Episodes 9 and 10. Well. Episode 9. It was kinda annoying because of Black Star's really annoying voice, but yeah it wasn't bad. I like the little Excalibur-frog. Hm, but there were better Soul Eater episodes, imo.
