w00t, nothing much to say about this episode except we finally get to see Eruka <3

The preview for 13 confirms that they're breaking the 1:1 tradition and compressing two chapters into one.

This episode stuck faithful to the manga, not to mention the choice for Eruka's seiyuu was a good one. Can't wait to hear from the rest of the selection of seiyuu.

Nice episode, can't wait till the next one, especially if it is going to be a 2 chapter episode. (not to mention one of my favorite characters is in it)

Medusa is as wonderfully menacing as ever. :heh:

Well get some developments, some of which were pretty interesting. Looks like Soul is having a rough battle in the subconscious against that blood. Clearly red things haven't been very positive and that little devil is trying to push Soul towards becoming a demon god. Encouraging him to seek power and break rules. No doubt though the dream about coming out of Maka and thus killing her would be disturbing.

Looks like the training for the Fey Blade mode has begun for Black Star. Probably more efficient to use that jar rather than have her transform and get completely drained again :heh:. Is the training supposed to make it so he can resist having his soul wave absorbed? Is important to get that mode under control since you never know when it'll be handy.

Aside from the heavy interest in dissection, Stein is a pretty good teacher. Explaining Black Star and how the talk about being big and above god just helps to make himself stronger. Makes sense that if you want to talk about being on a god level, you need the power to back it up. Has made himself physically strong through that mindset, and it'll probably get him through the jar training as well.

Nice party for Black Star and Tsubaki getting their first soul. A good group of friends to be sure.

Interesting situation with the witches. Medusa really is on another level in comparison to those other two. Really thought some steps ahead. Killing Mizune and easily having the ability to kill Eruka without having to take down the Soul Protection. Eruka manages to live on for a while longer though now really at Medusa's mercy. Nice voice choice for her though.

Get to see Mifune and Angela again :). Seem to be doing alright though clearly not favourites amongst the witch community right now.Things are not looking good right now. Seems Black Star is going to try using the Fey Blade mode in battle. Though from one point you see him down so apparently he isn't going to win this. But the idea of Maka and Soul in a fight with that black blood situation still there worries me.

Saw the episode and man

Free sound's much more badass than i expected also i was pleased with eruka's voice it sounded just as bratty as i expected and concerning next weeks episode it does look like they will start putting more material into a single episode as the fight with free is only at the end of the next chapter yet it made up quite a lot of the preview so the may be pushing the next two chapters together.

does anyone know who plays Soul's dark side? his voice is awesome.

Ootsuka Houchuu (Jiraiya)

Just confirmed it. I had a feeling it was him this morning, but it wasn't blatantly obvious like some of his other roles, and his wiki hadn't been updated yet :heh:

Edit: LOL, there should be a bailout.gif for Eruka in the alley.

For some reason I keep thinking that the got Eruka's colour theme all wrong...her hat should have been green and she should have had blonde hair
Another really good ep though...geko...I lawled again when Medusa told Eruka to transform back into a frog XD
Great voice acting from Houko Kuwashima (Medusa) too..."hidoi ja nai??" My butt
I can't wait to see "no future" in action next...

Thank you. I had been trying to remember where I had heard that voice before. He was also Alhambra in Hellsing if I remember correctly. Very good choice for him.

A little worried given the compression they did.

Havn't seen the subs yet but it still looks like a good episode. Blair was back so that was cool and of course Medusa is as delightfully evil as as before.

When Medusa killed Mizune, what happened to her soul? I was under the impression that whenever someone dies in this universe their soul gets left behind. Did Medusa's snake eat it and Medusa, by extension, absorb Mizune's power?

Anime messed up by changing the premise from the beginning. Don't think about it too much.

It is simple:

The Snake ate the soul.

What is the name of the witch with one eye, who voices her, what is the number over her missing eye and why do you suppose it's there for, and what do you think is her animal theme?

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers.

It looks like a 1/2 (as in one half, or one divided by two), although I don't know why. Well, obviously, she only has 1/2 of her eyes, so that's something, but it could also be related to her magic. Medusa covers herself with arrows, and her magic involves arrows. Maybe the head witch's magic involves numbers? This leads to a slightly interesting idea that the witches are using some complicated form of numerology or arithmancy, considering Medusa uses vector arrows.

and lol @ death the kid scanning the room, i just had that feeling if their would have been something out of place...........

The room in Soul's head being an homage to the famous Red Room of Twin Peaks (From the curtain and checkered floor, down to the little man dancing with his arms out at his side) was rather amusing.

Madame Demona.

Wow, that's pretty liberal.

Considering she's called Mabaa-sama (魔婆様), in Japanese, I'm assuming that's a title rather than a name. Every single witch we've met (and will meet) has had a Western name.

I would probably go with The Crone if I had to choose something in English.

Yeah, it was pretty liberal ;)
And that's not true about the western names. Mizune and Eruka are just plays on the words nezumi and kaeru.

You're right, I forgot about them. Let me amend that then, every single Witch we've seen (and will see) has had a katakana name.

LOL I thought the same thing since I noticed the pictures on the walls where in perfect symmetry. Maybe he wasnt freaking out cuz it wasnt his stuff. Of course that wouldnt explain the freak out he had with Anubis but looking too much into Kid's idiosyncricies. I did like seeing them all in regular clothes just hanging out.

Deathkillz
2008-06-26, 14:21
Well I think Kid's obsession with symmetry is rather inconsistant even through the manga which is a shame.
I did lol at him staring at Blair's naked body for the longest though (whereas Soul was just KO'ed :heh:).

Blair's body is nicely symmetrical.

Also, there was no crooked frame in the manga.

If it was perfectly consistent and applied to everything he'd never stop panicking about asymmetry and things that just don't make sense to him. When the obsessiveness really hits him, he can't think straight or on some occasions even move (frankly, I find it a tad depressing, but this is a comedy...). To some extent I think Kid needs to cope with it, both in canon as a person, and as a character for him to function in the story.

Solid episode. The scene about Soul's dream was done nicely and I loved the voice for the little devil. It took me a minute to figure out who the voice was, it was bothering me like hell.

I'm actually really excited to read the manga when the anime is done (I usually wait till after the anime is over to read the manga for some reason lol). BONES seems to go away from the manga on most of their stuff so it's always fun to read the original material and get a different story.

Well Medusa did tell the snake to devour her without a trace, so in the anime version at least it probably did consume her soul. Which makes sense since a witch's soul isn't something she'd want to leave lying around in the middle of Shibusen...

crone
–noun
a withered, witchlike old woman.

In Japanese they call her "mabaa" which is sort of a combination of "old lady" and "witch" although it seems to be used in a respectful way. I think "The Crone" when used as a title would work.

So im pretty late on episode 12 but regardless i liked Medusa is such a beast and her part time job beside being nurse might be a pimp or an assistant pimp with that jacket:p. I do like how the strain of what happened to Soul has strained Maka and Souls relationship its been done pretty well. I am going to watch the episode again since i watched it at like 3am so i feel like i missed somethings. A more complete post once i see it again.

Of course BONES seems to produce alot of anime that still has an ongoing manga like FMA and Ouran so them straying is expected but Ill say BONES is about the only studio where Ive liked their "original anime" endings so where ever they decide to go with Soul Eater, Im there :)

Also I know it was stated before but so much love for the blantant Twin Peaks reference in this epi. I didnt notice it right away since its been years since I watched that show but really, always nice to see tie-ins for other sources in anime...epsc from an America TV show from the 80s :heh: Im so tempted to read the manga now just for that scene.
