The manga is serialized in the seinen(young men's) manga magazine Sunday GX (http://www.comipedia.com/magazine/sunday-gx-sunday-gene-x) (Sunday Gene-X).
For now there are 7 volumes released of this manga, and volume 8 will be released on July 18th, 2008.

That's why I'm mentioning this because Western folks gladly assume a "season" means something you watch on TV. What was written in MOON PHASE's announcement could be understood as a "stage", a sequenced event.

True he does not have fighting skills or have a gun but, there is a reason why he is respected so much (and not just because Revy will kill anyone who hurts him) and Dutch says the company is complete with Rock nor carrying a gun. The guy is good with words and relations. In the business that Black Lagoon engages in, that's a very important asset to have. Balalaika and Mr. Chan trust him well enough, and that can go a long way in Roanapur.

Moreover, it was his conversation that made Gin hesitate for that split second and gave Revy a winning chance at the end of the Fujiyama Gangsta Paradise arc. Revy is the gun. The bullet is Rock.

Actually there have been several shows in the past that have had 'season' attached to them, but were in fact OVA's. Maria Sama and UFO Princess to name but two.

Not saying it is going to be an OVA, just pointing out that just because something is labled a season, dosent make it a full season. And lets not forget there are several other shows that have had 12+ episodes and have still been called OVA's, Hunter x Hunter, Dragon Kings, ans GaoGaiGar for example

I so can't wait for this! I have volumes 1 to 7 so fare and finally a 3rd season! I guess they had to wait for the manga to get the latest arc out the way.

And to add I loved every minute of season 2 it just enforces on how curl and the world can really be come on it's a dark version of Cowboy Bebop and love it that way

Don't see the point. He is an adult, not some teenager at school. If he wanted to lose his virginity so badly Rock can go to one of the many brothels in his city.

It would be as silly as having a sideplot concerning Revy's first kiss; it is completely irrelevant compared to the story setting. What works in a high school romantic comedy does not work in Roanapur.

1. problaby the earliest could be winter of 08 but, I seriously doubt that. I would expect to be summer or fall of 09.

2. Well by the time the third season starts the current arc might be finished. Like I said i expect it to be sometime next year so that plenty of time for it to finish.

One thing I hope is that they are able to get the same VA's as the first two seasons or i will seriously through a wrench in the whole project. I can't imagine Revy with a another voice.

Well, folks may equate change of distributor to change of production company, so they may be thinking that the same outfit won't be working on it.

I too figure anything less than winter 08 or spring 09 is unrealistic/wishful thinking. And I also wholeheartedly agree that the voice cast in both Japanese and English versions is perfect - there'd better be no changes. :)

Rock "fights" with words and cunning, much like Horo from Spice and Wolf if you've seen that. Think back to Rock when he and Revy went to the Church the first time together.

I am fine with Rock just the way he is now; Pretty much in the same way I am cool with Benny just sticking to the techy parts of the jobs.

At the same time however, I have always though of Balalaika as the "final boss" of this show; And for one reason or another, I just can't shake the feeling that the one that will kill her in the end, will be none other that Rock himself. :eyespin:

I completely agree; the second season was significantly better thanks to it's sicker villains and more brutal presentation as well as the increased drama level.

In any case, I'm pumped as hell for S3 because BL is one of my all time favourites. :D

I dont know if volume 8 of BL has been released yet or if the roberta's arc has ended in japan so i dont know what to expect from a third season, will they fag up the ending or leave it open ended?

I'd actually agree with this statement, if it weren't for the fact Live-Action anime adaptations generally don't turn out well.

However, Black Lagoon is a tad different, it has a theme that will distinctly appeal to a wider demographic so here hoping for one day. ^_^

Nah, too many action movies already preceded Black Lagoon. If made into LA, it will end up with chick with guns B grade movie at best, just like DOA. I can imagine Uwe Boll direct Black Lagoon.

Black Lagoon supposed to be personal tribute to all John Woo, Hollywood and whatnot action movies from all times with little anime twist and some serious social commentary by the author. In between of over the top action sequence, the author puts in what he/she thinks of world issues that is the bedrock of the conflicts shown in the story.

Hopefully Funimation will pick it up quickly once it starts and get back the voice cast that Geneon used from the first two seasons. They were able to get the same voice cast that ADV used for FMP when they picked up Second Raid, so they they would likely do the same if they get this new Black Lagoon series.

They have enough content with volume 9 coming out soon. Still I think it's going to be a few months at least before they can animate a 3rd season. The current arc with Roberta hasn't wrapped up yet and until it does their is no way they could end the season with a full 12 episodes.

Any less than that and the season won't make any sense.

And it's not like it's the 1911 (which is also approaching its 100th birthday), where its design was so influential in the designs of future auto-pistols and so reliable that it's still in use by the US military today. Hell, the only real widespread use the Mauser saw was during the Chinese civil war. Not even the Germans, who made the gun, really liked it all that much. German officers during the First World War preferred the Luger and, failing to acquire a Luger, would use privately-purchased pistols if they could rather than use the Mauser. But then again, Rotten isn't exactly normal (or smart, for that matter), so I guess the Mauser fits his style: all show, no go.

TL;DR: My guess is that Rei Hiroe just wanted a unique gun for a unique character.

Interesting... I didn't know Sawyer had multiple scars on both her wrists. Since it's on both arms, I doubt it was because of botch suicide attempts. The slash patterns appear to be intentionally non-fatal, so it might well be that Sawyers got the scar through torture.

My guess, is that she was a victim of a serial killer who likes to play with his "food", and that she survived the throat slitting that was supposed to have killed her.

I know that the swimsuit thing is not really cannon, but I doubt the author will put in scars unless they are suppose to be there. Also interesting to see this version of the crazy twins has at least one confirmed male.

I'm not familiar with the mangas myself, but a friend of mine says the series follows pretty closely, so I don't think a remake as a set of OVAs would be that good, as I felt the pacing of the series was very good so they'd either be cramming things in, or skipping bits.

The first two series covers the first 43 chapters, which is basically everything up to the 2nd maid arc - El Baile de la muerte.

The 2nd maid arc is the only thing unanimated and it's still going, as far as I know it's 28 chapters long so far, more than enough for 13 episodes, but they will probably wait until its done to animate.

Essentially, they backed off because they couldn't fight Balalaika. Revy and the gang were paid for their services because their job was to bring Garcia to Roberta, and they did that. They have retreated and was making a decision of either going home now, or trying to get Roberta back a second time even though they aren't sure if it is even possible anymore.

I have the Rei Hiroe's Barrage art book and in the end I was a little disappointed buying it. Sure I could afford it and only payed like 10 dollars more than retail but only about maybe a 1/3 of it is black lagoon material. What sucks after I bought it I found a few places to download it. I'm a sucker for good art which the book has, I love holding it right in front of me. What I really wanted was more detailed info on the series, with character bios, sketches, weapon descriptions, etc. like my Ghost in the shell art book or Noir book. Saw a book for Black Lagoon that's what I'm looking for but can't find the ISBN number to order it.

As for the manga's in english, volume 5 comes out the second week of april and covers to the end of the second barrage anime storyline. I've seen adds for up to volume 7 and a new book is released every 2 months. I have all of them to date and the future volumes on order.

The anime follows the manga scene for scene, word for word with a small bit or rearranging of when certain scenes happened early on.

Last chapter raw I believe was 71 which is all caught up and translated.

Black Lagoon is the kind of show that does what Cowboy Bebop does-make a completely unique storyline and setting. But there were still shows very similar to Cowboy Bebop.

Except, this show just cannot be wrapped up, is has to go on as we need more anime like this since every other anime is like fantasy/supernatural/Sci-Fi kind of content.

Plus, where else would you see that many good gunfights, crude comedy and pure Badass roled in to one. The show is pure realism, and I like it and it is needed. The animes based on realism are shows like Samurai champloo and Samurai X-OAV, but w/e, and those shows are really good, but we have enough of that type of show.

I say bring on 10 seasons , I am very happy that there is a thrid season being made. About time-LOL.

In this third season, or maybe next season(hopefully), I just think that the focus should remain on letting the audience know Dutch and Benny, cause Dutch looks like he had a dark past that he is dealing with, and Benny looks like he is trying to escape his past and not bother dealing with it since he ran into the mafia and all, so it would be cool if it all came back to haunt him-he is living in Roanapur-crime lord central-LOL.

I just don't see Revy and Rock having a "romantic subplot".

As far as I am concerned, from the latest manga arc, they are already in an implied relationship. They are adults; there isn't going to be love letters, confessions, hand holding or 1st kisses.

I am expecting the Revy X Rock elements to leak through the story indirectly, but never taking center stage. At some point, they are probably going to be shown living together without the story making a big deal about it.

And I don't EVER expect them to get married officially. Marriage is just a legal formality, and law matters not to outlaws like them.

I agree, a romantic subplot just does not need to be shown, just implied, plus, it would kind of seem weird if Revi went from Badass to nice girl while being romantic.

Revi and Rock already sorted out their diferences. Dutch is a charaster they need to focus on next, the guy just seems unbreakable and cool, there has to be some sort of blast from the past to stir things up with him.

It would be interesting to see the metamorphosis of the relationship between Rock and Revi in the third season providing that, as previously mentioned, said relationship stays true to the overall feel of the show. The "romantic subplot" is only hinted at in the first two seasons of the show and leaves the audience waiting for some kind of catalyst to bring the two closer together. Also it will be interesting to see if any further developments occur with Dutch's past, which has also only been hinted at in the anime thus far.

Would definately have to agree that the last thing i would want see is revy turn from a complete badass to a hopeless romantic. i know in the manga it is implied that they are in some sort of relationship but i think it would there would be some very interesting situations would arise if Rock and Revy were in a more intimate relationship as such.

when they go on jobs now they get crazy enough but with those two in a relationship and on missions stuff would get just that much more out of hand.

Not only is the anime great but they had the perfect mix of characters...

The thrid season will be mostly about the Loveless family and Fabiola(Roberta's assitant maid). I just hope that bringing a second gun-wielding maid does not make the show feel like too much of a repeat of the first season season.

I love that this show has represented almost every nationality, but not as typical streotypes-Revi for example who is part Asian, part American and Balakia who is a war tactical veteran-not a typical russian stereotype.

BTW, Rock is not ordainary, he is someone who should be classified as a diplomat, as a pose to Revi, who speaks her mind no matter how who the person is. Rock deals with problems with his words. I agree that he is ordanary and normal at times though, but that only makes Rock stand out more.

I hope that the thrid Season is more Dramatic, don't get me wrong, I love the series and the action and characters, but it only has a few bursts of dramatic intensity, but the only strong scene in this anime was when Rock grew a pair and stood up to Revi when they were doing errands together for the first time-the ep after the Nazi submarine episodes. If this series was just a bit more dramatic, that it would be not only awesome, but things would feel a bit more gripping and not just cool action and funny one-liners with various themes being explored.

Yes, I too hope that they do get new material apart from the loveless arc, cause the manga actually seems a bit slow-paced. Since Chang is in the loveless arc, hope we see some cool shoot-outs with Chang and Fabiola/Revi , cause it looked so cool the first time.

I love the narration done by Rock, its actually grips you into the show.

It doesnt say how many OVA will make up the series though? I mean Record of Lodoss War had 13, Tenchi had 8. I dont think itll be just one or two (I can pray!) but I bet itll be less then 12 since thats what the other seaons were.

It depends on the material. Some people that are following the manga believe there aren't enough material to do a 12-episode length series. OVA is a good news in that regards. It means the production company won't feed anime-original crap to the fanbase. Also, the quality of the overall production usually tend to be better in OVA than TV series (though the vice versa is also true). So, an OVA series might not be as bad of a deal after all. The last point is, with an OVA the animators have the luxury of time where they can allow the author/mangaka to go forward at his own pace to come up with new material or for a decisive conclusion.
