Sousuke Likes Kaname?

Well, I know this thread might sound kinda silly but after watching the part where Kaname and her senpai went to the *Ahem* Fumo Fumo Park, I was wondering does Sagara likes Kaname? We all know he is a war-crazy, gloomy guy but.....isn't it obvious that Kaname likes Sagara? Unless that guy really is a baka, he should have noticed it by now! This makes me kinda wonder whether ANYTHING GOOD will happen between them.....Btw, I jus started watching Full Metal Panic and that includes Fumoffu so forgive me if i don't know much.....

Edit: And sorry! I jus read another thread that sort of discuss about the ending of FMP?F...And it is really fustrating to see how "ignorant" Sagara is...

I think Sagara really cares about Kaname very much its just hard for him to express it. They are times when he shows how much he cares for her in some episodes. I guess you could say he really likes Kaname but doesn't know how to express it normmally since he was brainwashed his whole life by war. I do hope either Sagara or Kaname confess their feelings to each other face to face. I think that will wrap up this series very nicely, but hey if it doesn't oh well it was an fantastic series, which I really enjoyed.

Sagara deffinitely likes Kaname. It is true he doesn't express his feelings well, or at all. Sagara doesn't express his feelings so much because he is there to protect Kaname. There is also tention between Tessa and Sagara. Tessa is completely in love with him, while Sagara seems indifferent.

I recently watched the first season, straight (took me about 10 hours). I would deffinitely reccomend picking it up. Its great!

Yeah; I've never quite figured out the traditional anime fascination with having these unfortunate love triangles. One person always seems to end up left in the cold (FMP, presumably) or dead (Scrapped Princess). All rather depressing.

I'll hazard that it's pretty obvious Kaname will be the "girl of choice" in the end, and in many ways I agree, but Tessa just seems so much better suited to him. Apart from adoring him (always a plus), she's got so much more in common with him and hence is in a much better position to tolerate (daresay appreciate) his various quirks (rather than ruthlessly smack him)...

Ah well. I eagerly await the remaining eps...

From what I noticed, it seems that Sagara does like Chidori. And yes, Sagara had a hard time showing it his feelings, but he can be very forward, or blunt sometimes. Notice after Tessa leaves, Chidori's conversation with Souske. Souske felt relieved, which is the opposite feeling you're suppose to get when the one you like isn't around. Also, in part 3 and part 7(I think). Chidori asked Souske if he was worried about her, and both times he said yes.

Actually, I predict that this anime will take an unexpected (or since I'm predicting it it might be fairly expected) turn and end up with Sagara being with Tessa. Not that I necessarily want them together, but I think near the end Tessa will recall Sagara back to the submarine and he will be forced to leave Chidori. And we can all guess what will happen if Sagara is recalled back to the submarine...

Even though i like Tessa better than Kaname, Souske and Chidori makes a better pair. (Tessa is mines Souske doesn't deserve her)

I think they make a better couple because Chidori always try to teach him whats right from wrong even if that means slapping him senseless with a japanese fan. Plus they've been together through so many things so theres a little bond between them and Chidori has grown to learn and understand many things about him.

And yes its pretty obvious that Souske likes Chidori but he doesn't know much about love or relationships so he can't express his feelings.

Like everyone else, i'm really curious to see how this series is going to end... I hope it ends with one of them, (or both) confessing their love face to face.

Though I heard from someone, who apparently read the novels, that Sagara does eventually realize he likes Kaname so that's something the anime can work with if its true. (Sigh) but only one episode left. :sad:

Well, FMPF is basically Chidori + Sousuke show. Tessa just showed up as a guest apperance. I believe Sousuke does like Chidori but I'm not expecting a grand ending for FMPF. In the end, it's just a comedy. ;)

I like Sagara/Chidori pairing much more than Tessa/Sagara even though I have nothing against Tessa. She is a much more suitable match for Sagara b/c they're both in Mithril etc. ^_^

1.) The ep. where Chidori goes out with her sempai and Sagara follows them. He starts acting weird when he sees that Chidori is having fun with the guy. And also.. when Chidori was telling him that she had a crush on the guy .. Sagara made a sort of whimpering noise.
2.) The ep. where Chidori is "kidnapped" by the kid and Sagara comes to "save" her.

Fumo episode is all about sagara and chidori. Remember in ranma(Any1 who watched it)? Some people actually prefer Ranma to not be with the main cast girl in the first place(i read the comic, so its in chinese and i cant figure out an english name).

But because i see the main cast girl so much ,i rather she be with ranma in the end. But in the first place, i rather ranma be with that china girl. Some ranma fanweb prefer that cook to be with ranma too. But after seeing the main cast girl too much, i actually starts to prefer her.

But if u ask me, if all the episodes are tesse chidori and sagura in an all out equal fight... i will say chidori put down that fan, no guys want their gf to smack them all the time in public, though they dont get angry, it gets embrassing.

Tesse share military interest with sagura, in the long run, they might be military specialist(which tesse actually already is). Sagura will have so much fun with Tesse doing military stuffs and discussing it, bringing military to a higher level(like that bonta kun suit). And when they are old, they will be top military advisors.

Chidori do not care bout military stuffs, infact all she cares bout is getting good grades and maybe oneday, meet some guy she likes and become the average housewife. Place sagura with her and u will realize she will have a stressful life. She is already vexed that she has to clean up after sagura, that she actually wanted to give him up and go with her senpai during the funfair episode. If you place both of them together, they might be divorced some day. But as we know, sagura will be willing to change for chidori(love overcomes all) so it might not be what i said. But sagura should stick to military, its his life. He needs a girl who like military stuffs too, like tesse. Its not asif its drugs that is his life, he shouldnt change, neither should chidori.

I'm not sure if Sagara knows how to put how he feels for Kaname into words . . . while it is rather cliched, it's quite possible he doesn't know how to tell her. But then again, I could be wrong; all I've seen is the first 7 eps of season 1 and all of Fumoffu. But it is quite clear from the way how Sagara reacts in the theme park episode that he does have feelings for her. Otherwise, I don't think he'd react quite the way he did. And it's very obvious that Chidori likes him. She turned down the guy she went to the park with, especially after she saw Sagara (as Bonta-kun) running from the park security. I'm pretty sure Sagara loves her . . . he just needs to figure out how to tell her. ;)

Tessa is just a foil in the plot to wedge between Sagara and Chidori.

Tessa is Mutsumi from Love Hina. She is the rival you couldn't hate and is in every way superior to the leading female. The best romantic rivals are always superior (intelligent, rich, well-bred, etc). This way we can root for the underdog and it adds a touch more conflict.

To compare some simple points:

Mutsumi and Keitaro shared similar personality traits (clutsyness, scatter-brained).
Tessa and Sagara are both military-minded (although Sagara takes it to extremes)

Mutsumi professes her love for Keitaro openly. Naru doesn't.
Tessa professes her love for Sagara openly. Chidori doesn't.

Mutsumi was more feminine than Naru.
Tessa was more feminine than Chidori.

Mutsumi was super smart but physically weak.
Tessa...ditto.

The 'weakness' just increases the male protectiveness instinct, which increases her likelihood of being picked as a mate and I don't consider it a depriment at all.

The inevitable pair-up will be Sagara/Chidori (if Sagara can run fast enough so he'll be around for a 3rd series ^^).

Personally, I don't mind the way FMPF ended. It can end that way for good as far as I care.

to the actual point of the novels, the love triangle is broken, in DVMC, the novel next to TSR, while Sousuke rescues Tessa, she asks him if he likes Chidori, he answers yes, then she asks if he likes Chidori more than her, and aftes a pause, Sousuke answer positive.

Well just judging things from the Second Raid part. Sousuke was pulled away from Kaname by orders. Tessa sure let him have it when he was clearly thinking intently about Kaname most of the time. Plus he just walked away from Mithril after a while and the only thing that pulled him back together was Kaname kicking his ass. Looks like he needs her around for him to even get his military duties done.

In the first place, the anime is created based on the original source material aka the novels.

In return, unless the original author wants to change some things out of his own accord like the slight changes in TSR to accomodate 13 episodes, the anime would most likely follow the novel faithfully.

Agreed, the novel is the canon on which the anime is based. If there are differences in the anime series, you will notice that they are minor and of no actual consequence to the storyline, with the exception of the Fumoffu? spinoffs and the short stories (Sousuke and Tsubaki are gay, not really haha - Irrelevant Emotion short story). So, I'm sorry if the people who only watch the anime have had it spoiled for them (assuming you disregarded my spoiler warning), but Sousuke DOES have true feelings for Kaname, and vice versa. He realizes it close to the end of A Very Merry Christmas, and in Continuing On My Own they hold hands after school - there's even a picture!

To quote a translated (not by me) quote from the author, from the novel A Dancing Very Merry Christmas in which Tessa gets rejected and Sousuke finally admits to himself that he likes Kaname:

"Before, I said, 'Next time, it will be a lighthearted story,' but... it didn't end up being a happy Christmas for all of the main characters. So again, I apologize. Well... it's not as if there are people who don't want to see the protagonist in a normal love comedy like Sousuke going back and forth, confused between multiple heroines. So, basically it was the author's choice. He acknowledged that there would be a certain element of fan demand for the more typical love comedy, but I am guessing he did this because the core story was about to take a much darker turn in the next novel, Continuing On My Own.

I'm not arguing against ghost1987, because love triangles like these do turn out to have some pretty funny situations. But I think the author's choice was a wise one overall. Most of the comedy is in the short stories, anyway (off of which the Fumoffu! anime was based).

I'm sure we all remember when Sousuke passed out from exhaustion and Kaname and Tessa were fighting over the responsibility to take care of him. But now there is another love triangle, between LeonardxKanamexSousuke. Tessa is already getting over it, realizing that it was just a fantasy, and there are far more important things at hand, such as [[SPOILER]] an extremely destructive, simultaneous attack on all of Mithril's bases.

I don't believe Tessa is in love with him. She was pretty quick to proclaim she was in love with him, which aroused my suspicions. I believe it's nothing more than a crush. Sagara sees her as, at the very most, a friend and just a higher rank superior.

Sagara shows so much more attention to Kaname. He only protects Tessa because he has to but he protects Kaname even after his mission to keep her safe is over. He shows some affection towards Kaname too. It can be quite subtle, but it's there. Like when in Fumoffu they are riding back on the bike from the haunted hospital, when Kaname is about to collapse he puts his arm around her and pretends he didn't say he was worried about her when she fell through that floor. Also, he puts his arms around her and stares at her when they are trying to escape from the hijack incident. There's also the hair cutting scene in TSR. He falls asleep! That shows a huge amount of trust on his part, considering the things he usually does. With a little probing, he tells Kaname that she's beautiful when they walk off together after the dating competition in Fumoffu.

I could go on, but to round things off, those are the reasons Sagara likes Kaname.

I've read the novels, and in the anime and manga he blatantly is more attracted to Chidori and with her being the female lead, it's only natural (and clichéd) that they end up in love.

You just have to read the novels to truely understand, but its so true. Even in TSR, Sousuke is almost completly helpless because he feels imcomplete without being with Kaname, shes like his other half.

Exactly. That's what makes FMP different than all the other stupid mech/love stories out there: this one take forever to work out! Both lovers are really bad at admitting their feelings. I think some part of me is going to die when the novels end. Perhaps the author will keep writing little "Missions" and stuff, like the James Bond series, lol (except with no Bond girls, just Kaname, oh yeah). :cool:

Sometimes it's better to resolve the matter and let the series die a natural death. But that's the easy way out. I'll hazard that it's pretty obvious Kaname will be the "girl of choice" in the end, and in many ways I agree, but Tessa just seems so much better suited to him. Apart from adoring him (always a plus), she's got so much more in common with him and hence is in a much better position to tolerate (daresay appreciate) his various quirks (rather than ruthlessly smack him)...

I agree, Sousuke or Kaname or Tessa dying are all good options. Anyone else, like Mao or Kurz, might not have the intended effect, other than on the main characters themselves (any of the main three getting pissed off and going into a killer frenzy after watching one of their old friends, ect).

Sousuke doesn't look likely though. He's "died" (come close enough, thought to be dead, ect) too many times to really die in the end. Tessa...I don't have an opinion on her chances. Kaname does look the most likely to be offed though. Too bad. Again, I'm sick of dead main characters, expecially the women... ;)

There are always small hints from both sides: (just a few examples)
Kaname is jealous of Tessa
Sousuke is jealous of Fuwa, he starts talking nonsense seeing kaname and fuwa getting along so well.
then the end of the episode where tessa meets the gang. (fumoffu)
at the end he says he doesn't miss Tessa because he doesn't want to piss kaname off, I guess that shows that he likes her.

Sousuke really does like Kaname... In the same scene as where he was leaving Mao and the van, he turns to her a moment and she sees his eyes. Right away, in her mind, flashed the eyes of the one girl she fought in ep 2 or 3 or whatever. She said that that girl's eyes were full of sorrow, and saw the same in Sousuke's after he lost Kaname.

There's also where he gets told by Gauln/Garin that Kaname got killed... and he goes insane and shoots Garin to hell (too bad there weren't any headshorts). He was hesitant before, and if he didn't really like Kaname, then he probably still wouldn't have shot him.

I think he has a very strong personality. He just follows Kaname "like a dog" because he followed orders. But later in the series he starts to calm down, so he isn't "her dog"!

Not because he feared for her safety, but because it was KANA that could be hurt, and that he couldn't be there for her, just when she said she trusted him...and he discovered he really trusted her.

He follows Kana because he wants to....I just watched the episode in Second Raid after the beautiful hair cut scene (wished some romantic-ish music had played during it...or something dramatic at least, like in other series)...and when he was told that his contract was cancelled, he was MAD. Not because he feared for her safety, but because it was KANA that could be hurt, and that he couldn't be there for her, just when she said she trusted him...and he discovered he really trusted her.

I'd say the current novels and past novels after Day by Day show how much he cares for Kaname.
It shows he is totally dedicated to Kaname. Loses organs/ parts of them, gets shot at, as well as the emotional strife to her her back. Yes, Sousuke adores Kaname, there is no other reason to contemplate. lol

Of course, I can see where Kaname could get confused...if she sees it as him merely doing his "duty," it makes the whole heroic aspect platonic. Which is the point, I guess. Why? Opposites attract? He's obviously been around other women in his lifetime (people like Mao, the captain, numerous intelligent technicians who could just as easily argue specs with him), but it is Kana, somebody who ISN'T military, that draws him.

She's not delicate.

I'd have to agree about Sousuke liking Kaname. He may suck at flat out saying so, but it comes out and shows once in a while. The funny thing about this is that being a mercenary since childhood, he has a bad tendency confusing his feelings of love for Kaname for possibly loyalty, trust and protectiveness. Maybe Kurtz or Mao should discuss it with him. I even think that despite Kaname's advances, he's not sure how to act or react.

Thats a very intresting way to look at it , being a mercenary and that too with Honor in Duty . Sagara chooses Kaname over his duty/obligations to Mithril ( FMP SR ) . After that incident in HK we do know where Sagara's heart lies .

Geta Boshi's right. Although we never find out the reasons behind it, he did take a girl that looked just like Kaname to a room. Whether he knew what he was doing was questionable, but it's obvious enough that a piece of him wanted to be with Kaname at that very moment. And if him feeling worse and worse to the point of leaving Mithril in the middle of a mission just because he ended up being forced to leave Kaname wasn't much of an indication of him liking her, then I don't know what would be considering this is Sousuke we're talking about.

Actually IMHO Sagara gets beaten up because of his inablity to convey his feelings to Kaname . Kaname likes him but wants Sagara to confess first coz she cant do so . If they do hook up her beatings will reduce a great deal which dilute the chemistry , Kana will be a perfect lovey dovey gf , she is violent now mainly because of Sagara Goof-Ups and Frustations Regarding him .

I don't know... I'll admit that Kaname will probably start being lovey dovey towards Sousuke once he flat out tells her he likes her without saying something stupid afterwards that'd make her question the validity of what he just admitted. But, the way I see it, just because he's finally admitted that he likes her, it doesn't mean he'll stop doing some bonehead stuff. Sure, it'll probably end up with Kaname getting annoyed and smacking him with the fan, but then thinking back that he's doing it for her, so she smiles, but that doesn't make it less interesting in my opinion... One thing that won't change either way would be that Kaname would still end up being aggressive several times while Sousuke continues to have bonehead moments.

As I think about it, Full Metal Panic! was slightly on the humours side, but had more serious moments while Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu was simply pure out humor. Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid resorted back to the more serious aspect of the series, though not any less entertaining. In fact, I found it much more entertaining. And the way the ending seemed to have went, I can't seem to put it past the writers that they might just put Sousuke and Kaname together just to have a change of pace and possibly entertainment.

Yes. It's a touching show of affection. As you can tell, the stories are well written enough that the writers tend to elude fully answering whether Sousuke likes Kaname or not. They would give hints repeatedly, but never reveal the answer... until you read the more current chapters in the manga from what I've been informed. Of course, that last part is something I've yet to confirm since I can't seem to find the mangas anywhere.

Haha he winces a few times in Fumoffu also. Like the beach episode when she hits him with a bat. There are a few others as well, but I can't remember.

Haha. I really personally think that Kaname DEFINETLY likes Sousuke.

I do think that Sousuke is still semi-oblivious. I think he realizes how much Kaname is depending on him. I think through most of the third season, Sousuke was resentful for being taken away from a mission that he was somewhat enjoying. Kaname was finally friendly with him, and he had realized his idiocy. He appreciated her honesty with him. He finally had a trusting person outside of the military. And life isn't all military with Kaname. Its different for him, and I think he kinda enjoys the challenge.

I DID however think it was a hint that Sousuke had some form of emotion for Kana-chan when he is about to wrap his arms around her at the end and gets interrupted. HE FLIPS when Kyoko comes out, almost like he was commiting a crime.

If anyone remembers in season one, when Tessa was really upset and starts crying on Sousuke's chest like Kaname did... Sousuke never even attempted to wrap his arms around her, but he made an effort with kaname. I think that means something... >>

Whenever Souske searches Chidori, the greater the amount of people die. Enemy, or innocent. This is the truth. Chidori knows this too. When he seperate from the school, the main problem also lies there.

I have to wonder how you could even ask a question like that, even after watching just the first series? It is soooooo obvious that Sousuke likes Kaname. Just a couple of incidents from the series:

When the terrorist hijack the plane full of student, Sousuke is ordered to focus on rescuing the rest of the students and let the terrorists keep Kaname for the time being. His concern and feelings for her overide his strong sense of duty and he disobeys his orders in order to free her.

Sousuke is devastated when he is told his assignment guarding Kaname is over and is ordered back to the De Danaan. As the series progresses he litterally falls apart emotionally, and at the end refuses to return to Mithril unless his assigment to guard Kaname is reinstated.
These are just two examples from the series that seem to totally confirm his feelings for Kaname. :)

that would be funny but i don't think a funny scenario is appropriate for such an IMPORTANT MOMENT. it needs to be a deadly almost hopeless situation or something like that and show how his true emotions/ feelings are... a funny, FUMOFFU like, coming out is a horrible way to show his love... it has to be an action that shows great motivation, concern, and caring attitude and THAT WILL MAKE IT EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

wiht how many movies, shows, stories etc etc it is almost impossible to not be cliche, in order to be less cliche they need to integrate the whole feel of FMP which will make this expression of love its owns breed... AND I HAVE FAITH THEY CAN DO IT!!!

It'll probably amount to him admitting that when he think of his future she's always in it. He'll probably tell her his big grand plan about how he wants to run away with just her so they can go anywhere in the world and start fresh, just the two of them. Even I admit, it is kind of romantic in thought, even if it's not exactly practical.

I can clearly see one girl holding his heart. He has no experience in the field of romance and relationships... remember that episode in Fumoffu where they're suppose to pick up chicks... He calls that girl hunt! OMG! What a noob... well okay, remember when Kaname explains to him what flirting is, because he said he didn't know what it was... and when she was telling him he started to freak and sweat bullets!! very very funny...

Kaname and Sousuke started off as friends, and that's how relationships evolve from (well the good lasting ones), and Sousuke learned a lot from Kaname. He trusts her, (same goes to the Trust he has for Tessa), but it's completely different.

You have to read the novels and everything will be explained

plus I agree with a post from page 11... that if Sousuke and Kaname do get together there should be some loving other than kissing and hugging...come on they're 17 or 18 years old and been through a lot... a kiss isn't enough...

HE takes Kaname to the nurses offices and a bed and tells her to undress quickly, and to some small degree she does.. That may not be love, but it does show he is interested only in her....

I wanted Tessa/Sagara to happen, cause they are so cute and sweet together! But I know they'll never happen because she isn't a main character, and the tsundere always gets the man. But it was destined to be since the very first episode. I knew Tessa/Sousuke was just a tease every since the very beginning.

I hate Sousuke for rejecting Tessa! How could he? He's so god...I want to hit him in the face sometimes, especially when he disregarded Tessa's orders just to save Kaname! He is so *writes a fanfiction*. But that'll never stop me from enjoying TessaXSousuke scenes! I think their scenes are more special since there doesn't seem to be that many, while chidorixsousuke scenes happen frequently and I'm just like "meh" been there done that. But they are quite cute, not my favorite though.

So who does Tessa end up with? She's all alone? How sad...Can someone post the lines when she got rejected? I want to feel sad today.

To be fair, I enjoy Tessa as a character when she's got balls of steel. That one scene in TSR when she castrates Mardukas on the bridge was one of my all time FMP favourites. This wishy washy thing she turns into when she's around Sousuke is just so... I dunno too syrupy sweet for my liking :P

Hi Langus I just read your fanfic of Breathless and I must give you a high five, because you did an awesome job. I love how well written your story is. The flow of the two characters sharing this experience (PERFECT).

What you wrote is exactly how I picture their first time will be, and I'm hoping something like what you wrote will be included in the Gatoh's work. I think you did an excellent job.
