That was pretty great.
They added some more to the fight, and we got extra shots of Kirikou and Ox.
Unfortunately they censored the "death blow" for Medusa. They didn't even come close to showing it :(

Well that was one heck of a finish to this series of events. Sadly Asura couldn't be stopped and now is loose upon the world. Stopping such a guy seems in the realm of impossible. If Shinigami can't leave that area then its a tough job. A powerful pair in Stein+Spirit could only just take down Medusa and even if you put them in a group taking down Asura just doesn't seem possible.
Not to mention it feels like the legacy of Medusa isn't nearly over yet. Doubt she went for that bite for kicks. Which would be tough since she no longer had legs :D. Really they should have chopped her up or something just to be safe before she tried that. Not surprised they didn't show the final move. But now I think its not nearly over for Eruka and now Stein who easily could have a snake inside him.
Sadly the three teams just couldn't do anything against someone that powerful. Black Star was well beyond his limit when he went in for an attack and Kid couldn't take much either. Same went for Maka who went through a lot before she tried to grab onto Asura. Going to take some time to recover.
Damn nice fight though with Shinigami. He really gave his all. What he could do was limited while not having a weapon. If Spirit had been up there they might have been able to stop him. Yet without Spirit Stein would have gone down fairly quickly and then Medusa could have chased down the others and taken them out. So this is just the way it finished up.

I see Marie in the preview, one of my favorite manga characters! Gonna love seeing the other Death Scythes. :heh:

I agree. At this point, Asura is pretty much free to roam as he pleases. It is a shame they really weren't able to stop him.:upset:
I really liked this episode, mainly because we finally see Shinigami in action, with a baddass voice none the less! All those thoughts about him being just a goof were gone in an instant once he started fighting.
The part that got me interested is how Asura resembled Kid not only in appearance, but also in attitude. I wonder if the resemblance is intentional or if it is just a coincidence (though I doubt that considering that all of the three teams seem to have some ''dark'' power, so Kid might indeed be related to Asura).
Next episode is the introduction of new characters. Hopefully this will mean we will get a new opening soon.:)
Rikiya Koyama is so cool as Shinigami
I was surprised by Toshio Furukawa (Piccolo of DBZ) as Kishin.
He sounds so high pitched, makes him sound neurotic it's almost funny.

Before just looking at development for the three teams as they moved toward getting the souls they needed. Now you have Asura on the loose and madness will start spreading.
Best hope they've got is moving that guy back toward Death City then Shinigami can have another crack at him. But really no way that guy will willingly go anywhere near that place.

All in all a good adaption, I think I like the arrows coming out of Medusa more then the cartoonish meat around bone that was in the manga and it explains how the hell she was able to jump up in the first place. not too buged about not getting a closeup of the face full of scythe as the long shot of him stabing her in the heart works even better with the talk of love
Oh and Kishin is the neurotic poster boy. Thats the point he is Joker level insane.

Wow, talk about an awesome fight O.o
Shinigami sama gave it his all to try and stop the kishin but he was at a serious disadvantage without a weapon. I really liked the way his voiced changed to reflect the serious mood, there is no more time to play around but his all just wasn't enough.
Still though, you just got to love his initial "SHINIGAMI CHOP!" attack :D

This was just a wonderful action packed episode. Finally got to see SHinigami fight and Kishin was just crazy. 10/10
Woah! EPIC !
Shinigami's voice when he first shoot " SHINIGAMI CHOP !" freaked me out. :heh: Anyway, Awesome and epic fighting scene.
Too bad they "censored" Medusa's death blow, the scythe didn't even hit her at the same place ... :upset:
Oh ... And ... Who's talking in the preview with Maka? I just cannot see ... XD

Well seems like some interesting characters are going to be showing up if some of the above....comments are accurate :heh:.Really was one heck of a fight and the Shinigami Chop was a ton of fun :D. Voice change with things getting serious was great as well. Really got to see just how powerful he is even without a weapon on hand.
From that preview seems like the main cast will recover from their injuries just fine. Though what exploded in Spirit's face when he was seemingly talking to Maka in the preview is beyond me. Feel bad for the guy though. Since being the Death Scythe who was there when Asura was freed has to make him feel terrible.

sounds like it was the kishin, and his n1 hobby is stretching XD
Ataru-Kishin was awesome.
I think people are more familiar with Piccolo, but for my generation the first character to come to mind is Ataru. :heh:
Very humorous for an ultra-powerful villain too.
"OMG I'm naked!"
Kishin "I envy macho-men."
Free "...... is he talking about me?"
I'm loving his character. :heh:
it was nice to get a taste of what Shinigami-sama can do, but I do wonder, if he pulled out all the stops earlier, would he of been able to stop Ataru? I mean, after Ataru got that attack of on Shini...it seemed Shini was gonna get all up in Ataru's ass and show him who's really the boss (and it's not Tony Danza) till he got out of range.
They censor the face stab... UGH
There removed that insane dying laugh, more UGH.
UGHUGHUGH, the two thing I expected the most was not there. I hope the late night version would adjust that.
Knowing the late show trend.. I really hope you dont wish that badly, as you might get highly dissappointed.
HAHAAHA Aohige, Ataru-Kishin, that's it perfectly.
I was totally not expecting that, but then again Rikya Koyama totally surprised me as Shinigami-sama as well.

This is what I have been waiting for since I heard this was being made into an anime and for the most part it did not disappoint. I was a bit surprised by the VA choice for Asura since I had been expecting something deeper, but it did end up fitting with his madness though I liked when he was talking normally as well. Shinigami's change in voice was nice as well and I was not entirely expecting it. I liked how the battle between the two was extended since I felt the battle in the manga was a bit too short.
Little sad they didn't keep the bit with Medusa intact, but oh well.
Next episode looks good with the introduction of some characters I was looking forward to meeting. I'm curious where the plot will go from here given that this would be the prime time to deviate from the manga if that is their intention.
I also loved the scene with the kids running away from Shinigami and him looking all sad for some reason.

Wow...a shinigami chop is all it takes to knock a strong opponent like Asura straight to the ground and it is not as if Shinigami-sama put his wavelength into it, it was just brute strength, I liked the stuff they added and the new Death Scythes are gonna be coming in next episode, YAYZ MARIE and JUSTIN! Also Shinigami is that dangerous without a weapon and Asura had his weapon but they were still fighting on equal ground...put a weapon like Death Scythe into the ring with Shinigami-sama and there is nothing that can stop him, the weapon is supposed to amplify the Soul Wavelength....damn their Resonance of Souls will probably hit Jupiter....
You know quite personally I like little deviatiions from the manga.
The fact that the killing blow on Medusa wasn't as gory didn't bother me that much, nor did the absence of the laugh.
Gotta remember guys that the original broadcast time is for kids:heh:

Yeah, bet it'd destroy Asura but annihilate the earth in the process. Way to go, Shinigami and Spirit...:heh:
Seriously though...maybe the reason why Shinigami couldn't kill Asura the first time round was because he didn't have a Weapon to amplify his soul wavelength?
As I've said elsewhere, the seal does strike me as 'last resort' territory, particularly seeing as Shinigami has no problem whatsoever with killing his enemies or having them killed.

True, but that is what scares me about Shinigami, Asura had to consume normal souls and kishin souls to become the Kishin and he consumed his weapon but even after all that Shinigami can fight on equal footing without a weapon.

Hm.. I think I've become way too spoiled with the manga. Before I read the manga, I thought soul eater (anime) was da shiz. But with every episode now which I've read the manga before hand, it just doesn't seem as good. I think it's the little things. Like scenes in the manga which were awesome to me just didn't have the same impact in the anime. Recent ones I can think of are:
- Stein laughing in the rain of blood
- Chrona killing the bunny(Not even because they changed to a dragon, but the scene altogether)
- The seal trying to capture Asura
- Blackstar's leaving Tsubaki behind
- Shinigami's entrance
- The added fight scene was a little too much DBZ
- Medusa's "I love you"
- Medusa's "death"
- Asura's dialogue to Free
Basically in almost all those scenes, the manga gave me a dark/chilling/intense feel to it, and in the anime none of that translated, it all just felt kinda "meh"
So yeah, I know I'm being nit picky. I'm sure if I never read the manga, the anime would be really good.
I think a lot of it has to do with the art/the manga being black and white/the dialogue differences.
....yar
Interesting, I think the excact opposite for the most part. Namely cause of the taught direction and excellent improvement on Ookubo's design ideas. The fight to prevent Kishin's revival, the rivival itself and the Shinigami/Kishin fight were MUCH more engaging in anime form. However, I think the "fatigue" is more so due to the fact that at it's heart, the shonen narrative is so flimsy, it doesn't hold up to such frequent reexperiences.

Soul Eater's always held up just fine for me no matter how many times I read or watch it... :uhoh:
- good ep overall, personally I preferred the anime to the manga, I think the additional scenes between kishin and shinigami were worth losing the minor medusa details
was kind confused about something though, I thought shinigami was restricted to death city because of ashura, sincce ashura is revived now and there isn't a seal anymore, why couldn't he pursue him?
It was explained earlier.. he planted himself to the ground.. not to Ashura.
I'm really glad that Koyama Rikiya used his normal manly voice during the fight. Though the conversation before that about different mask and different speech really had me smiling.
It's probably going to be a long while before we see Ashura again, which is a shame. I really liked him as a character, and his design is just completely wonderful. His talk with Maka in the preview had me laughing quite a bit.
As for the preview, i've been looking forward to seeing Marie for quite sometime now, and i just know i'm going to love her. Can't wait.

Awesome episode.
The scream in Eruka's face was great. The fight was great. The music and voice acting were superb. The animation was top notch.
Is it me or does Kid's bullets seem to do nothing to bad guys lol :-P
It's a relief to see the Anime stickin with the manga storyline thus far (knock on wood). I figured if BONES was going to go in a different direction with the story since the manga isn't finished it would happen soon. I think episode 25-30ish was then they really started to deviate from the FMA storyline.

The episode was great, just wish the fight was alittle more of a battle between "gods" not just a few lazer beams lolol. But it was still good. just had my hopes up :D.
But the next episode looks like its gonna be a funny one so thats good.
BTW does anyone know if the season is gonna end at 25? or they just gonna truck it every week for the planned 50 episodes?

Well, Free was a hologram last time, and Asura's way out of the young shinigami's league. And too much even for the grown-up one to handle on his own, it seems.
Kishin's awakening was fantastic, didn't find anything lacking there, as the atmosphere of weird horror was just spot-on after the build up of the end of 23.
I liked the way they finished with Medusa, as it made it clear that Spirit and Stein did notice she left no soul behind.
I thought I recognised Asura's VA from somewhere, so will have to look into that. Shinigami's old voice with his new mask made for a contrast that was amusing and creepy at the same time. The way he was flying struck me as odd; reminded me of jet engines.

Thought the ep was great, the voice change for Shinigami was completely AWESOME! Too bad he didn't get to us a weapon, I really wondering what his fighting style is like.
What confuses me is, it's obviously he was able to beat Asura the 1st time without a deathsythe so why would he have to use one now? My only guess is that he beat by surprise the 1st time.

Or, Shinigami might be holding back in order to minimize damage to the city and

He never made contact with Black*Star.Watched the scene a few times and I'm pretty sure that backhand did connect. But it was such a quick motion tough to tell if it grazed Black Star or if it only just came close. Something sent him flying, so it was contact or some glowing energy thing :heh:. At any rate it wasn't nearly as direct a hit as Kid ended up taking.
Doesn't look like it in frame by frame. The manga also shows that the swing went wide while the one that hit Kid made contact.

What about the snake that crawled away at the end? Is this the last we will see of medusa or not? hmmIf not feels like she is too powerful and near impossible to kill if your not Shinigami-sama. Either way the strongest combo with Stein and Spirit could very well have lost that fight. Possible she survived somehow through that snake. No soul showing up after that last strike definitely hints to her not being completely done yet. Though I guess to stop her we've got to toss her body into a volcano :heh:.Doesn't look like it in frame by frame. The manga also shows that the swing went wide while the one that hit Kid made contact.Well the guy can fire energy beams, so possible he hit Black Star with some weaker form.

Based on the storyline, it seemed after this, there would be no more Shinigami-sama fight...
Nooooo!!!! It's too short.
I want more. His overpowering is just too tempting to watch..
God, i hate this feeling. Even if he can join a fight next time, he probably would be weaken for some reasons (unless the manga make an unique approach)
Why would he be weaker? So far, we've seen nothing that can diminish Shinigami's power (though he can be injured), but have been told explicitly that a Weapon can increase it.
Shinigami's main problem is being stuck to Death City. I doubt Asura will risk coming back again for a while, simply because Shinigami seemed to think had he been armed with Death Scythe at the time, he would have been able to prevent the Kishin's escape.
What I want to know is, why wasn't Shinigami able to kill him properly the first time round? Why would Death (or whatever similar thing he is) of all people be forced to seal an enemy he clearly despises and has no qualms about hurting with great violence (the skin-stripping, for e.g)?
What about the snake that crawled away at the end? Is this the ast we will see of medusa or not? hmm
Sure, but we not will see Medusa again for a long time, I think.

Because he can't due being too powerful and can only trap him, or, he did not have a Deathscythe when he fight with Asura the last time. Either is possible really.
Ohhh holy crap this episode was too awesome for words.
I'm in love with Shinigami-sama's voice of doom. *q*
Asura's voice really surprised me, though.. Dunno, it just seems to sound so goofy. XD
Didn't Shinigami-sama do all that precisely because he couldn't kill him? Asura's power seems like it would just keep growing no matter what..

My guess is that the Kishin can't be killed. The best that Shinigami could do was seal him away, basically taking away his ability to move. I assume that why he drained all the blood from his body, then used his skin as more or less a prison of sorts.
And back to Shinigami being stuck in Death City, is there any way he can "un-anchor" himself? I mean, is it reversible so Shinigami can move around at will again? That would solve at least some of their problems. And how did the Kishin know about the Shinigami's limits anyway? Did he merely see the outer limits of the Shinigami's soul?
And during the fight, was it the Kishin's powers or the black blood that healed his wounds? I got the distinct impression that it was the black blood, mostly because it resembled the fight between Maka and Krona.
I like the idea that Kishin - fear, madness that he represents - cannot be killed. However, I think it's possible that Shinigami wasn't able to kill him before for the same reasons he couldn't stop him now: he wasn't armed with a Weapon.
Currently, Stein for one seems to think the seal cannot be undone allowing Shinigami to move around freely. Also, given the severity of the situation, if Shinigami could free himself at the moment, I think it would have been at least suggested by now.
I'm thinking Asura saw the limits of Shinigami's soul, perhaps knowing when he awoke how he had been sealed in the first place. That would explain how he could move just out of range.

That doesn't make sense because he's had Asura at his mercy in a bag in his basement for centuries now. If all he needed to finish him off was a Death Scythe, he's had plenty of opportunities.
Of course it doesn't. Don't know why I thought that. :twitch:

It would be cool if Maka and the gang travelled underground to try and free Shinigami's soul by breaking some type of soul anchor that was discovered using some mysterious tool they found on a mission capable of cutting through the soul because with that they would be able to free Shinigami....but alas that will probably never happen
