Seems like the urge to spam the new and shiny section got the best of me. :heh:
Anyway, has anyone else here played Melty Blood? In my opinion, it is one of the better fighting games around, provided that you actually appreciate gameplay more than round clumps of polygons and skimpy clothes on the females. The PC is a decent player as long as you keep it at the highest difficult setting, but what I really like is a duel between two people who actually know how to play. It can take positively ages for a fight to finish, unlike in most fighting games.

Well, I don't actually think she is THAT overpowered. Warukia and Nero in the original are much worse in my not so honest opinion.

Melty Blood is cool. I did have fun playing it.
But nope, not really _THAT_ good.
Reason:
A) I'm not a Tsukihime Fanboy. So I guess that's why I don't enjoy it as much as you guys do.
B) Games on the computer? Nah.
C) The game was in Japanese, so I didn't bother playing "story-mode".

"MELTY BLOOD" was interesting...it was a golden collaboration project between two major doujin groups, TYPE-MOON and Watanabe Seisakujo.
The game play was be rather amusing as Watanabe Seisakujo had its experience in developing fighting doujin games for the PC since QOH and Pabure.
If you liked "MELTY BLOOD," make sure you get the upcoming major revision - "MELTY BLOOD: ReACT" Search around, and you'll find a demo version of "MELTY BLOOD: ReACT" somewhere.
As for another doujin fighting game, I strongly recommend Tasogare Frontier's "Eternal Fighter Zero." Numerous versions exists, but try to find the latest one labeled "Bad Moon Edition." Of course, it really helps if you've played the ero-game "One," "Kanon," and "AIR" beforehand.

I tried it, but the "normal" mode was hellish. It was way TOO hard.

I have it, played through all the routes, unlocked Warakia and the others, and nowdays usually just play against level 5 PC opponents.

Yes, I can see how playing against another human player could be long winded considering the level that you can block attacks with! I never get bored with Melty Blood when I get frustrated with PHP and Fortran :heh:

I wonder how long it will take them to fully translate the whole game. I have the game but I don't understand almost all of the Japanese text. >_< It's so frustrating when you don't know what the heck is going on.

Melty Blood is pretty good! I can't wait for ReAct, it seems like the action will be a bit faster this time :D
I wish they made Kohaku in her China Dress to play as. I would of loved that. But at least Satsuki is going to be in it.... turrah!!

How could you!! Such a harmless, innocent young maid... :D
But, Indeed. It's just a matter of identifying the characters' weak points. Kohaku (bless her) does have a excessivley large recovery time after heavy attacks, leaving her vulnerable to fast movers - this is why Miyako is such a pain and the only one that I can't beat on a regular basis.... yet.
Sadly, the CPU, even on level 5, is remarkably stupid and often makes life too easy for the abuse of certain attacks and moves. I notice the CPU doesn't really use 'air' dashing and double jumping. At least, not in my experience. Warakia is perhaps the obvious exception.
On the other hand, if you're not careful, it's easy to get trapped at the screen edge and pummeled to death with combos if you can't cancel out of the 'fall' and escape (or retaliate). The CPU can occasionally wipe me out without mercy - but doesn't usually get to gloat for very long :)
Kohaku in China dress super attack -> even funnier if messed up. =P

I have a firewall on, and everytime I fire up Melty Blood, it warns me that MB.exe is trying to connect to IP 131.107.99.244:80. (I denied it access of course)
A ping to that IP reveals it is non-existent.
Anyone can explain this?

The web server is there. It may just be ignoring pings. Who knows, I never noticed it when I was playing MB, but it could be some update checker/info collector thing :/
PS: Oh wait, it looks like some Microsoft site: crl.microsoft.com
I'm thinking it's checking for codecs, because of the opening movie.

Well of course buy it legally. The companies who make the game deserve to get paid so they will continue making more awesome games in the future. See the sticky "Where to buy japanese games" thats where you can purchase it legally.

I was a bit worried that I got a virus/trojan even though scanners show it was clean. Funny thing though is that I can play the mpg just fine with media player without needing to download codecs.

"If done right"...you do realize that Akiha's grab damage is entirely random?
Oh and managing to lose with Warakia is quite an achievement :twitch:
How do you play replays? I just got a whole bunch of them from some site but I don't know how to have the game see these replays.

make the sub folder 'replay' in the MB directory. place replays in there.

What version do you have? If you don't have the newest, the game probably can't read them. you need 1.100... i think...

i'm playing story mode, so i can only use shiki. if i jump kick a lot of times when i land i get torched or punched. the punch can't be airblocked either... :(

thanks for the link, but is it 1.100 or 1.002? i overwrote the original mb.exe file w/ that patch and on the main menu of the game it says 1.002. :confused:

On how to beat Giant Akiha with Shiki:
First off, do NOT corner her against the wall. This is a bad idea. And likewise, do not get cornered. The ideal spot is for both of you to be away from the walls, and normally as far apart from the other as possible.
Now, as long as the two of you are near the center, you can jump once, hit her a few times in the air, double jump, hit her again, then hit her a third time as you come down. But this isn't too good of an idea cause G Akiha tends to attack you right when you're falling down and that can really suck.
So, you attack her once, double jump, then air dash past over her head and toward the other side of her. That way when she's trying to attack you as you're hitting her, you can air dash past her and her attacks will totally miss you.
An even safer way to take her down is to stay as far away from her as possible until she starts her drill attack. Then you jump, attack, double jump + air dash past her safely. Will take even longer to beat her, but at least you won't receive horrendous amounts of damage in return.

I'd say it's not worth it. you can spend to $40 on something much better, like Guilty Gear X... don't take me wrong, it's a fabulous fighting game when you take into consideration that it's a fan-made game. However that's just what it is, a truly great fan-made game, but nowhere near the quality of some good commercial game. $40 is too much IMO, it's definitely worth playing for some time, mainly for the single player part, however the lack of character balance means that it's not that good if you want to play against some friends, so it doesn't last as long as other good fighting games.
Also it's very text-heavy despite the fact that it's a fighting game, expect a lot of reading through the single player mode.
IMO, if you are a hardcore Tsukihime fan, buy it for sure, in that case you'd have already bought it by now... if you are only somewhat interested in the Tsukihime universe, it may not worth the $40... if you are a fan of fighting games, there are definitely better games to spend the $40 on.
Search around in the "Shingetsutan Tsukihime," previous "MELTY BLOOD," and to a certain extent "Queen of Hearts 98/99" and you will find numerous that I wrote regarding this collaborated doujin game. If the info inspires your interest, then I recommend it - if it doesn't then I won't. The main reason here is that the whole TYPE-MOON world is "love-it-or-hate-it" kind of story. Granted TYPE-MOON went pro and released one of the best selling ero-games out there this year, it's doujin game "Tsukihime" was a very polar game in a sense where some people love the in-depth story and amateurish art while others hate it for the long text and amateurish art.
My deepest apologies for bumping this up again.

How do I get this without needing to navigate through Japanese websites (I have no knowledge of their language) or giving my credit card number to questionable websites?

Amazon.co.jp's listed price for Melty Blood is less than half the price Himeya lists (42$ at Himeya compared to 19$ in Amazon). Too bad Amazon Japan doesn't ship games to locations outside Japan.
EDIT: In case you haven't heard, Melty Blood ReACT should come out soon enough. It might be easier to get outside Japan than the original (probably not, but one can always hope ;))

I should inform you that MELTY BLOOD ReACT has been delayed by another month. If you go to the-now-defunct-Watanabe-Seisakujo-website's online diary (http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~k_wata/zaki.htm), Narita-san apologized that MELTY BLOOD ReACT will not be done for release at C-Revo (which is on April 29th). Excuse: "I didn't plan ahead well that it was going to be this hard..." "This will be our first two-disc game" etc etc. Conclusion: it has been delayed for at least a month, and hope to see it on a May release (hopefully).

I prefer Eternal Fighter Zero games, I'm not the biggest Shingetsutan Tsukihime fan out there, but it's still a good game.

The "fire-girl" is Akiha, and her 300% EX attack is Sekishu Origami. You do it the same way you do almost every 300% EX attack--roll the controller 180º from back to down to forwards, and hit strong attack. Only while your magic circuit is at 300%, of course.

Haha I finally got to test play the Melty Blood fighting game at a kon this past Sat. I played as my favorite character in the anime series (Ciel). Anyways's I almost bought the game, it plays similar to Gulity Gear X. You could button mash one command and bust out 20+ combo's lol. ^_^

i play this at the arcade..and its great..they kindabalanced the characters out more a bit.

Only gives you 2 stages, Arcueid and Ciel to play with through, and the default keys are both awful and unchangable (player 2 gets the arrow keys, player 1's movement is somewhere around the upper-middle of the keyboard with ZXC being one player's attack keys iirc, and the other getting NM,
Act Cadenza, on the other hand, is really good. I'm generally not one to play fighting games, but I'm loving this one. I seem to fail with every character I try other than Ciel though, probably because she seems to have the most extensive movelist of all the ones I've tried so is the most fun to play about with. Played her first on the React demo and haven't gone back.

Re-act final tuned is pretty much the same as re-act I think except an updated version...I think XD
BTW does anyone know the voice actor of Nanaya Shiki?

final tune new button features were added. the 4 extra character colors, some new moves, redone menu displays, some tweaking, etc.

As for Nanaya's voice actor, good question x_x He doesn't show up in the Act Cadenza credits... unless you have to finish it using him. I'll give it a try later.

As far as we know, you don't I'm afraid :( The fact her move list doesn't come up when you fight against her seems to support this too. Shame, I really wanted to play as her too =/

Theres a PC demo of act cadenza version B(the new one in japan arcades with playable white len), but the only characters you can use are len and white len. Supposedly its only an ad for the arcade version, but it seems a huge waste to do a PC port for only an ad...

Yes, Cadenza Version B 1.0.1.
This most likely fix the glitch, which prevent players to unlock "Giant Attack 666", despite completing the "extra" arcade mode with Neko Arc Chaos.
(the extra arcade mode is kinda glitchy though... sometimes you must hold D, sometimes you should just press D for N-A-C)
Kinda surprised how smooth and steady AC verB is. Really a good thing the Heat spark is include, and most -if not all- infinite combo (who said shion unlimited kick?!) were removed.
Still it is a bit sad the story mode was obliterated, but Tag Battle and Team Battle are just too good *___* (never EVER play warachia in Team Battle...you are spelling your own doom with him)

Ver 1.02 is out. it fixes the G666 mode.

All I know is, my computer runs MB, MBR, MBAC all at 60fps.
I do nothing but play with Ren. I've gotten to the point where I can beat nearly any of the characters without going below half health. Except Kohaku and Nero. They give me a hard time. I've gotten decent with Arcuied
I think I can beat arcade mode with ren in about 10 minutes. But I got slower because my thumb's growing a blister T_T (boo to thumb pain after 6 hours non-stop play)
Nay to CPU AI battles. Yea to human opponents!!
AI in A.Cadenza is so dumb and braindead.

white Ren is overpowered. she was a boss previously in re-Act. I like to use her. she is best used against human players since the computer knows where she will appear when you use her shadow tricks. The new fire guy is pretty overpowered. he is easy for a novice to combo and does alot of damage. I really wish there was an online mode. it would be much more special.

Hoho Interesting... though i was expecting 四季 instead of him... meh.
Who is the right character though...? Is it from Disc Plus / Mystic Eyes Alliance? Because i can't identify with any character from Tsukihime / Kagetsu Tohya.
that said, the weird thing is that on the screenshot in the article, Kohaku and Hisui are no longer available as standalone, but only as a duo :x
I was hoping they would update the character sprites. They have been using the same sprites since the first MB...a HD upgrade like HD Street Fighter would be excellent. :D
I hope a PS2 version will come out later and not a PC version.

Still Hoping that Aozaki is still the best character to use.
But Iam an Arcuied fan and user so I'll hope for a new moveset when this comes out. Hope it has the ecchi. NOT!!! Starting to hate btw hgame based animes ever since School Days.
I think the reason why the graphics of the next Melty Blood game looked like that its because Ecole is still using the old Sega NAOMI arcade hardware...Unless they migrate the game in a much more poweful hardware like Lindberg or the PS3-based arcade board.....
Anyway i hope they would finally release Act Cadenza Version B on the Playstation 2 ASAP,but for now im hoping that the next Melty Blood game would be great...:D
I wouldn't mind the sprites being higher res, provided animation quality isn't sacrificed.
Take Street Fighter 3 - Low res sprites, but awesome animation, but compare it to Guilty Gear - Hi res sprites, but bad animation.

Melty Blood is a fighting game based off of a visual novel called Tsukihime. Both Melty Blood and Tsukihime kick extreme ass.
And yes, there is a PS2 version.

Having some issues with the game right now:
My old computer is currently out of commission and I'm trying to install Melty Blood onto my new computer that just came not too long ago.
Now a strange problem happens. Pictures don't show up normally and sprites vanish once in a while. (e.g. Akiha disappears when she's knocked down)
I should note that this is the old version. So I tried installing ReAct and similar problems occur.
This never happened on my old computer so what should I do?
