Quite an unexpected result so far. Rosa Gigantea is the most favourite person

Not really...out of the three former oneesama-gata, Rosa Gigantea makes the most appearances in the novels, and she does tend to be with Yumi-chan alot.

By the way, you have your "titles" wrong:

they should be:

Sorry, I believe you are wrong on this. Maria-sama ga miteru is only available in fan-sub since it is just started in january 2004.

Could any admins return the thread to the fansub forum?

Each to his or her own...

Polls like this are borderline as to where they should exist. The Fansub forum is for discussing anime series currently available as fansubs. This sort of poll isn't really about discussion of the series but just requests a 'one-shot' opinion (yes, yes, I know that opinion will form part of discussion but the poll by it's nature doesn't invite debate).

IMHO, it's only the posts by kj1980 (which as usual provide some interesting insight into anime from a Japanese point of view) which raise this thread above the rather meaningless "What type are you" class of threads.

So, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be in the General Anime forum, I certainly prefer to see the Fansub forum contain threads about debate and discussion and a lot of the polls there do not provide this. And don't take that as a negative view to this thread, I'm just as interested in the topic as are many others and I don't want to inhibit people from post to it. It's just that Keitaro felt it was better suited in this forum and I see no reason to disagree with him.

I'm not sure if I remember the names correctly.. But so far, Yoshino is my favorite because I can relate to her. I also like Shimako because she seems to be very gentle and nice.

They are french words.

"petite soeur" = younger sister
" grande soeur " = elder sister
i think you know.

in fact, there are Rosa : Sei, Youko and Eriko. their sisters are " rosa ... en bouton ".
and the sisters of " rosa ... en bouton " are the "petites soeurs ".

in fact the "bouton" is a good symbol :
in flower term, this is a stage of development of the button during which the bud is still closed, but the scales open at the top leting foresee the pink point of the petals
(ontoni gomenasai : for my english)
so, " rosa .... en bouton " is in progress to become a beautifull flower (as their older sister) :-)

the "petites soeurs" are not sown yet :-) lol

I voted for Sachiko because I like that type of person. She seems smart and gentle but strong willed, and of course, she is beautiful. After all, it was Sachiko's character what grabbed me to download marimite.

adding up things, how's the next generation of Yamayurikai anyway ? did Yumi changed the image of the red rose family ? because it seems like each family had their image (eg: the white rose family seems to be filled with eccentric peoples that do things on their own pace) and Yumi's image looks a lot different from Sachiko and Youko (that looks quite the same type)

Incidently, I voted for Shimako because I was so impressed with how she handled her relationship with Sei. Despite her illness she is so strong. Perhaps even because of dealing with her illness she has become strong. Finally she decided to have the operation so that she can lend more of her strength to the one she cared about.

Definitely Shimako.

I didn't look closely before, but shouldn't it be "petite" soeur? "Soeur" is a feminine noun as far as I know, so the adjective preceding it should be feminine ("petite") rather than masculine ("petit"). Any French speakers please correct me if I'm wrong . . .yes it's "petite soeur"

actually, it's "petite sœur" with the special "e in o" letter...

If anyone wants my french language, I would trade it for japanese language because it's boring to read english subtitles!!!

Yumi comes at a close second because some of her facial expressions are so funny and cute as well. Oh, on a side note, I really need to praise Yumi's voice actress for doing a great job on her.

I just wanted to wait until the whole series was aired. Sei is definitely my choice for all reasons stated by others. If she is not going to be in the second season (or third, fourth, fifth, whatever), I will really be disappointed. That would cut the fun of this series in half (is this even a sentence?) :D

Hmmm, I really had a difficult time only picking one character. I like all the characters in Marimite, and only wish that certain characters like Eriko & Youko had more screen time.

Sei is by far my favourite character, but in an anime like Marimite, such a question is not totally fair, all the characters being that great.

For example, Yoshino is a character i didn't really noticed in the first episdes, but after her operation, the change of personnality is very noticable and extremely funny, and she ended up being one of my favorest characters in the show. ^__^

Sei. You have to have respect for someone that always acts so calm and laid back. The way she teases Yumi just cracks me up and at other times her character can seem so deep that it just leaves you in awe. Plus, she brings out the fan girl in me. XD

Yeah, Shimako really needs more screen time. I always get the impression that there's a lot going on behind those thoughtful (and beautiful) eyes of hers... but we're always left in the dark as to what she's thinking and feeling. She has deep feelings, but often thinks it necessary to carry such burdens on her own. I can't help but long to know her better whenever I see her looking as if the weight of the entire world were resting on her shoulders... aww, Shimako! :upset:

Well, technically Noriko wasn't Shimako's soeur yet at that time...but yes we shall see more focus on the new Rosa Gigantea family in the second season.

I sure hope they at least go through the "Rainy Blue" & "Parasol o Sashite" arc.

Well I also voted for Sei but not just because she's the "fun" character...

I think Sei is the most well developed and realistic character of the series. She is outwardly confident and definitely a lot of fun on screen, and really added a great humor value to the series, but she also has an extremely painful past. She is essentially transformed from her time with Shiori, where she is quiet, withdrawn, and depressed, to the carefree Sei we see at the beginning of the series. This is a change that has happened in my own life so I can relate to her a lot.

She is also a very perceptive character who I think understands relationships more than many of the others, and she is the most supportive of the younger sisters (ex. When Yumi gets in a fight with Sachiko she asks Sei for advice, Shimako heavily depends on Sei to give her confidence, etc.) Even though she is always suffering on the inside, she shrugs it off and acts happy so the others around her will be more at ease.

Of course the fact that she is the only one who is definitely a canon yuri girl helps XD (I am lesbian, so...) .

Well everyone can have their own opinion, but to me Sei is like the ideal of who I would like to be, and I relate to her a lot. Anyone have more reasons they like some of the other characters? ^_^

Edit: Forgot to add that I have read somewhere (possible on this forum) that Sei will NOT be disappearing in the second season. She chooses to go to college at the Lillian University so she can stay close to Yumi and Shimako. Also I know she has to be in some future story line because her room mate becomes a character. So I look forward to more fun with Sei ^_^

Therefore, my vote goes to Yumi (who's probably tied for favorite with Sei for me..). I'm surprised that Sachiko's actually beating her, to be honest.. But oh well, to each their own, I guess. To me, Yumi is just far too cute, plus I can oftentimes relate to her, considering how often she doubts herself (poor thing..).

However, when it comes to the characters that make me smile when their on screen (including Sei), Yumi wins, hands down.

Well, I guess I'm not being original here by chosing Sei, but she's definitely my favourite character so I'm following the crowd...

I just love how we got to see right from the start her playful and funny side, because at the beginning we don't know much about the others and they seem distant, and the atmosphere is somewhat austere, so she acted as a great comic relief in the earlier episodes.

Later on, we get to see what happened between her and Shiori... I must confess episode 11 is my favourite, I'm such a sucker for love stories... even more so when they end sadly.

She's as great as ever in ~Haru~. I especially like how her relationship with Shimako is depicted. Of course it's a pity she graduated, but she's not very far away, as is proven when Yumi has tea with her (I kinda like the new haircut BTW). But it's a new season, time to discover new characters, so I guess old ones had to go eventually. Actually I'm kinda glad graduation doesn't take place until episode 6 or so, I thought it would happen earlier.

Oh, and she drives a New Beetle too, my favourite car ! Another good point :) (and she's an horrible driver, just like me...)

And, of course, I just LOVE how she makes Sachiko jealous by jumping on Yumi :)

I also like Yoshino (because of the tomboyish attitude, she's so funny !) and Shimako (the only girl that looks cute, in my opinion... girls drawn in a shoujo style don't look so good to me, but she's the exception).

I think there is no surprise to japanese audiences too.
I have read that Sei is the most popular female character by reader votes in Animage magazine followed by Shimako-if I am not mistaken.

Yeah, I am aware of that. All of the fanart takes that into consideration and Katsura is mostly displayed as someone who is not really part of the clique, yet desperately wanting to be in it, esp. as Yumi's soeur. Sort of a tragicomical role she has developed in the fanart-universe.

I really like almost all of the characters in the series. The characters are really what make Marimite for me. If I had to chose just one though, I would probably go with Rosa Gigantea. I just love her playful, outgoing personality with just a hint of sadness to it, and the way she was always there to help Yumi out.

All the scenes between Sei and Yumi are gold, but the one where Yumi is saying "goodbye" to the graduating Sei, and then kisses her on the cheek and runs out ranks up there as one of my favorite Marimite momenents!:heh: I have to say I didn't much care for her new "college haircut", though. It made her look much too "butch" (even though she is the only obviously lesbian character in the series) I thought and it also made her look too much like Rei.

Shimako!! I never really did find out why I like Shimako so much. Her character attracted me from the start; even before we really find out more about her personality. I guess she's my favorite because she is very pretty, mysterious, and it's hilarious when she does something that doesn't fit her quiet image.

Following Shimako would proabably be Noriko. That could've been influenced by the fact that ShimakoNoriko is like my OTP in Marimite, but I also like how Noriko is very confident and sure about herself. I really started to admire her when she stood up against Sachiko and I feel that Noriko is one of the most realistic characters in all of Marimite. :)

Well, let's just say that it was a bit disappointing to only be able to vote for one character, because I had two that I was tossing up between. The first, and the one I finally voted for, was the leader of the poll, Sei. The second, and someone who suffered a lot from lack of screen-time, was Eriko. Why you may ask?

Sei: A lot of people have already mentioned why they like Sei's character, so I think I'd probably better write a little about my own motivations behind choosing her. To start off with, she is a character initially very different from the rest of the cast. Had a hard time choosing between Yoshino (Rosa Foetida en Bouton Petit Soeur) and Satou Sei (Rosa Gigantea). In the end, it fell on Satou Sei. Even though I admire Yoshino's personality and behavior, Satou is just so much more awesome. Also she has the best back story of the two.
I guess i chose Satou because she is the playful and relaxed type, yet can be dead serious at times.

Yuichan i'm not high school girl for 2 years ago. now i'm in univ ( university
gal actually tehe..)

I just said when i was in h.school i have a lot a fan(nor boys or girls) but for me, i still can't compare myself with sa-chan because she's too perfect for me..:)

nobody's perfect oneesan..she also ever make some mistake..:D sometimes she made yumi cried,isnt' it??..but i love so much with sachiko..she is know how to love yumi..i think she can do anythink calm down..she can make yumi feel so calm and soft,sometimes sachiko can be someone who look so cool but sometimes also be cheerful..:D
