Hey, I love the Sashimi too! Esp the salmon. Plus the ebi prawns and the japanese curry desu! Oh yes, I also like the salmon onigiri. ;)

Ehehe, I do like quite a number of dishes eh? :heh:

I think it was this, anyway. It went off in 1990. Cold udon & peanut sauce is nice too. Or a bowl of sushi...

Is Teriyaki considered Japanese? If so, hot n' spicy chiken teriyaki is my favorite dish period. Other than that, I ate in an expensive Japanese restruant one time and the food was very bland and tastless, I had some big breaded prawn like things and some soup. Biggest waste of $20+ dollars ever.

EDIT: Oops! As mentioned above, sushi can be really good!

My favorite Japanese food is Sashimi..... Really like the dish when it comes in a boat.

There is one more dish I like, it's called "Nigitoro" either in a form of Maki or Temaki (roll or hand roll). It contains green onion and "toro" (raw tuna, I think) made into roll.

I don't like Sake but having that "Asahi Dry Beer" would be nice....

Tuna steak, cooked on a grill so that it is raw except for the cooked lines on both sides where it touched the grill. (It is flipped once.) When done correctly, the difference in texture and flavor between cooked and raw tuna is exquisite.

Since you're in Redmond, WA, and is not too far from Seattle (AFAIK because I no longer live there), there's this small Japanese restaurant down in chinatown, across from the post office. Recomend that restaurant very much. Price is decent (under $10 per meal), taste good as well.

Cool, I have a friend that I know would like to try a Japanese restruant and would probably pay if I drive. I'll definatly keep that in mind. Thanks!

A difficult question to answer as I really like Japanese food (and good food in a general kind of way).
I guess I will have to go with a small selection of what are probably my favorites:
- Thuna Sashimi
- Udon
- Katsudon

Of course I also love many other japanese dishes (yakitori, sukiyaki, sushi....)

Whoa, what an old thread.

I'm a fan of gyuu donburi a la Japanese, that is, with no eggs. But of course, any salmon-ed dish scores points with me... whenever my budget allows them.

I love ramen too, it's about half of everything I eat when I visit Japan.

The other half is Meiji Chocolate :)

Be careful saying "I like sushi" .... I can guarantee there's a sushi dish out there that will curdle your innards :)

I eat virtually every japanese dish there is..... a particular favorite is okonomiyaki (simply because its a bit of a challenge for me to cook properly).

Sushi and shabu shabu!

Absolutely NO SASHIMI! I really, really don't like raw seafood. Now you see I have very limit choice of sushi because of this. :( Sushi is all about raw seafood.

2007-06-30, 15:19
my favorite food is tonkatsu
yum
couldn't get enough of that
there's that chain of tonkatsu restaurants in Tokyo (I don't remember the name and can't be bothered to google it right now) that I really like

onigri is pretty good too

(I saw the Cutie Honey live action film and wondered what the big deal was with her eating them all the time, then I had some. Yeah, I could scarf those down all day too... :) )

Robotnik
2007-06-30, 17:56
Yakisoba. Or a couple of onigiri. Man, I wish I still worked near the Japanese grocery... cheap onigiri or noodle bowls for lunch... Mmm...

WanderingKnight
2007-06-30, 20:08
Sushi is all about raw seafood.

Well, I particularly disagree with this. There are lots of sushi that don't have a single ounce of fish in them. In fact, the vast majority don't have (I can only think of three types of sushi that have, but there's probably a couple more).

Ah, by the way, I love sashimi :D Raw salmon + soybean sauce = WIN

Vexx
2007-06-30, 21:08
Hmmm, salmon, tuna, mackerel, the mysterious fishcakes, fish eggs, blowfish ....
after that its other sea animals: eel, octopus, shrimp, crab ....
then we move to land things: chicken egg, thinly sliced steak.

and then its mostly plant material....

my favorite food is tonkatsu
There used to be a time in which "tonkatsu" made me think of the yummy food. Now it just makes me think of the cute piggy in Nagasarete Airantou, and it freaks me out to think of eating "tonkatsu". :p

I'll never be able to pick a favorite Japanese dish... there's too many I love.

Tommy

I really miss,

Katsudon
Ramen
Curry

I was looking through the yellow pages here hoping that maybe their was a japanese resturant that sold stuff besides sushi and sashimi but no luck.

I actually was thinking if I could somehow find a cook that could make all of those dishes I listed maybe I could open up a shop one day selling those dishes along with a few others.

Hmm... i like chicken katsu, teriyaki, katsudon, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, yakisoba, and much more... in other words: i like japanese food!

If you remove the o- prefix from o-konomi-yaki it become Konomi-yaki... I WANT TO EAT THAT!!! lol...
