View Full Version : Episode 19 & Manga Chapter 11
No, I haven't seen the episode beyond what's on the preview from episode 18. But having read manga chapter 11, prisoner #66 (the one with skull helmet) look awfully like Barry the Chopper (the serial killer from episode 8) in terms of the weapon used, a large meat cleaver. Barry never met Al in the anime, so he should be somewhat surprised at Al's condition. Prisonre #48 (the one with the scarf over the mouth piece) is called the Slicer in his previous life. Both of them supposedly have been executed for their crime, but in fact were used by portion of the government to make Philosopher's Stone.
It's kind of interesting to see Ed cursing himself for admitting that he is small (convienent for crawling through a narrow duct).

If I'm not wrong, they were not part of the Philosopher Stone experiments. The bloodstains on the sigil do not belong to them but to the other condemned.
It seems the "Slicer"s are only involved in the experiment of soul grafting to the armour. The experiment was successful. Barry agreed to a special arrangement (undergo the armor-soul graft) to escape his death sentence.
Thus they become guards and witnesses of the Philosopher Stone experiments.
Now over the weekend, we shall see any differences in the adaptation... :)

<insert flame about reading chinese manga instead of the real thing>, iirc the katakana says "barry the (whatever code name they gave to him, its either chopper or butcher, i cant remember, read it 3 months ago) when he announces his name "..... Ep 8 was a filler ep making up a story for him.
Ill edit this when i get back and grab the manga

Yeah. It's chopper. I was kind of surprised that Bones made him look like that. I always thought that he was some old fatso. Well anyway...

lol...i saved that frame...it was priceless and sad. :( But mostly priceless. ^_^
chpt. 11 is my favorite part of fma so far
I'm wondering though. Since they have found and now know there have been sacrifices in the transmutation circle that supposedly creates the phil. stone. Am I correct to infer there has already been one made?

My own opinion:
Remember that it was all experimentations. Some of the experiments would be failures. There may or may not be Philosopher Stones. But if there are, they are likely to be flawed products. The human sacrifices are only a critical ingredient. They still have yet to discover the final piece of the puzzle for a true Philosopher Stone.
http://wgalland.hp.infoseek.co.jp has screenies of the episode up!!!
From them, we can see...
the screw left on the workbench!!! Ohmigawds, Winry what have you done?! :heh:
Winry fans rejoice. Since this means she'll be back with Edward again for a while :p
At least there'll be some joy before another spot of sadness I suppose.
I just watched the raw, was a good ep
seems the nut winry(whatever the spelling) forgot was related to ed's shoulder.

I thought the same thing. and judging from his and winry's reaction it doesnt seem like a good thing that she
forgot to attach it to his arm. But in the previews his arm seemed pretty intact so I'm not too worried

Did anyone read what was on the papers?
A recipe for making French Toast for breakfast. :)
I wonder if THAT was in the manga?

Bones has been inserting weird english items whenever they needed to insert any documents. Remember the intro to alchemy book was about D&D. On another note, the speech at the beginning of 19 was by Al alone about the philosphers stone. And they are really starting to diverge the story lines between the anime and the manga. I really hope they have somewhere to go with this...

Well... we should have confidence in it. After all the mangaka was the one who stated the endings for the manga and anime would be different. 7 years for the manga and 50 episodes for the anime would have a divergent storyline and conclusion. Let's just hope it would not end up like Flame of Recca (good manga, good anime except the abrupt ending) or Hellsing (good manga, good anime start, terrible anime later half).
I think the missing bolt is just a catch to get winry back into the story and in central city.
I hope ed is able to talk to the guards from this episode. he might be able to find out a bit more about Al's current condition. such as the memory loss issue.
I'm more curious as to what the guard fighting Al is going to think when he finds out that he and Al are in the same predicament.

Kill him.
I think it will be found out rather quickly, but I doubt that will slow him for more than a second. He knows such things can be made, and he must protect that area from intruders. just because the intruder was made by alchemy same as he was, I do not think he would deviate from his origional plan much. although instead of trying to run him though he will be trying to find the seal that binds Al and scrape it off.
To arm's to arms! no not the swords, these attackers were made with alchemy, get the Squeegees!!

Hmm? Arakawa said that the endings will be different? I mean it's obvious, but I don't remember him actually saying that in an interview.
Oh right. I should add that whatever English is in the anime is usually just stuff that Bones adds in. The English in the manga is usually just a couple of words, rather than long drawn out sentences, probably because Arakawa and his assistants don't want to make any really stupid grammatical mistakes.
Like in volume 6 on page 141, panel 4, where Ed gets the official papers that would make him a National Alchemist. The only visible English is "National Alchemist" on the top of the page. None of that crap about birds. Or whatever it was in the anime.
