I love both the OP and ED. OP is a catchy tune with a visually stimulating dance routine reminiscent of the best KyoAni has to offer. The ED sounds melancholic and bittersweet, but beautiful at the same time. It reminds of Melody of Oblivion's ED.

I love the OP. It's so bouncy and fun. I love the animation i the OP too :) And I wanna learn that little dance routine Nagi does x)

The OP is quite interesting. The beat to it made me addicted to it for a couple of days non stop. Also the lyrics to it was awesome. Especially the chorus part where everything is plain or simple.
Gotta love the part where shes in the dance studio dancing.

The special Nagi cover of the OP single, which will be released quite soon. (This upcoming Wednesday, at least in Japan time)
OP/ED set aside, another piece that interests me is the BGM we've heard used in their PV and one of the episode.
Yeah I really like the PV bgm music, was used in episode 2 when Nagi asked if they could keep the kittens as well as episode 3 when Jin goes to school. Looking forward to hearing the full versions of the OP and ED very soon.

Yep, the BGM. We have Kousaki Satoru again this season, who, again had done Suzumiya Haruhi and Lucky Star. If I remember correctly there was something about him having done Virtua Fighter 5 as well.
His Haruhi score was pretty darned good, underlining the scenes well, yet still being subtle. He wasn't as good IMHO in L*S, but still a functional score I guess.
In no way has Kannagi's score been outstanding as yet, but I'll be keeping a lookout. There has been flashes of his old style already so far. Not to mention that he wrote that insanely awesome OP/ED.

Full OP was pretty good and catchy. Compared to the other dancing OP, a lot more listen-able song-wise and visually. Not the type of song I would constantly listen to the full of though...
Main anticipation is the ED!

I LOVE the opening and the ending, there both really great songs. I love the dance in the opening!! :D
OP is out! I'm so used to the TV edit version, the full version sounds a little weird. Nevertheless, it's still an excellent poppy song.
Full OP is pretty good, though i always found that the tv size did the job. Still it's a pretty damn good listen.

The Costume of Nagi on the OP Single is also more or less the same as Nakayama-san's.
The interesting thing about that youtube clip is
1) its live... not lip-synch'd. Yay for the "old days".
2) She's pretty clearly nervous. I wonder if this was her first "big time" appearance.
3) The hosts appear to ba a rather oddball manzai (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manzai) pair.
Woot! OP is now released! :heh:
And here's the PV =( it sucks though xD
They should made Haruka do the same dance though.

Japanese Pv have never been cool *Sigh* Even with the most emotional song, i would feel funny everytime i listen to it after watching the Pv.
There's only one word to say about Kannagi Op: sticky :D It has been stucked in my head for about 2 week now, and i don't know when will it leave :eyespin:
Oh, about the lyrics, there's a part near the end about something like: "liking a person even though he/she has grown taller." I wonder if that actually has something to do with the plot?
Haha me too! its actually on loop on my music player :heh:

Only in that I assume the goddess Nagi was fond of Jin as a child (though her current earthly incarnation doesn't remember that it seems) --- that's what the prologue scene in episode one of kid Jin catching Impurities was about. He only vaguely remembers it himself. Now, of course, he's much taller and older.

The OP broke into the charts today at #12. Not as high as I expected (thinking back to Lucky Star), but pretty good for a newcomer and a show that is just beginning to catch on.
As for the PV, I think the song is fun, Tomatsu-san is extremely attractive, and the PV is visually really bad: nice colors, but poor writing, choreography and acting.
I did notice that one of the books on the bed was the English edition of Sophie's World, that great little popular history of philosophy.

nice PV… Tomatsu Haruka is a very good looking girl… gotta love her casual hair style (and yeah, nice legs…)

Finally got around to posting my review (http://blog.animeinstrumentality.net/2008/10/30/kannagi-op-single-motto%e2%98%86hade-ni-ne-review/) of the OP theme. For those of you who don't want to read through the massive wall of text, let's just say that I've never had so much fun listening to generic J-pop before. The music in general is fairly generic, but the undue influence of the OP sequence as well as Nagi's character was what did it for me.
Woot! OP is now released! :heh:
And here's the PV =( it sucks though xD

my first impression about the PV; "EEEHH?!!"
seriously, what's with the theme "let's show Haruka-chan's cute side! more! more I say!" there's no mistaking Haruka Tomatsu is cute w/o her needing to act cute.. i can't see a link between it's song and pv.
the PV and song just doesn't fit what i had in mind :heh:
there's no doubt the song is fantabulous, but i have to say, it's PV is too lame for me.

Well... I really like the PV.
Is it that common for anime songs to get PVs if they're not released by a separate artist? Songs like Hare Hare Yukai or anything that was performed by the seiyuu didn't get PVs, I think.
gah..... everytime I watch a PV or music video from Japan, I feel like I've fallen into the very early MTV videos of the early 1980s. Goofy things that often had nothing to do with the lyrics.....

CDs? How about the Vocaloid versions? :p :DSomehow I predict dance parodies on YouTube and stuff. Oh yeah, and maybe it'll be slapped into the next Nico Nico medley. For now, watch out for Nagi and Zange doing Caramelldansen. :p
Though seriously, I do think this would be great for remixes and mash ups.

It would need more fidgety background colours, confusing camera angles, really awkward looking special effects and wipes, and people pretending to rock out in a sound studio. These (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgfSzuFD8rw) would be more (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzymBKGV8rw) of the standard for (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gz7gajAb2ww) an 80's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nb-8SHznFw0) music video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oaSZxd9jOY)
Oh and don't forget bad hair and no fashion sense.
Anyway, not surprised that this one only broke in at #12 or whatever seeing as it's probably the least gimmicky and most listenable arrangement thus far from the dance guy. Well as lacking in gimmickery as this guy's works can possibly get...... If there's anything I've learned it's that anime singles sell in Japan in an inverse proportion to how likely I am to ever actually listen to them more then once.
I think highly of the ending song (and its associated video sequence too). I am a God-fearing man myself, and although I am not a polytheist, I immediately sensed the genuine reverence of the song. I played it over again several times, and have done so in the later episodes too. It is amazing to find such a spiritual gem in such an unlikely place. (The anime itself does not strike me as reverent, at least by Christian standards, though the Japanese seem to have a more relaxed relationship with their gods.)
So... does anyone know if this song is patterned after real Japanese devotional music? And could anyone possibly recommend a way to find similar songs, if there are?
The second half of the song makes it sounds like a lullaby more than a religious song. Especially the part "itoshi itoshi waga ko yo", phrases similar to this turn up often in lullabies. I have no knowledge of shintoism or shinto songs so I can't say anything about the first half of the song.

I love the song and all but when I watch the actual PV, I'm not looking at the pictures but in a way just listening to the music for some reason. When I actually see the OP for kannagi i pay attention to the pictures though.
Anyways the piano version is just pure win! I need to get my hands on it
I've got a collection of shinto chants and such... I can safely say none of it sounds quite as melodic or tuneful. Yet the ED is a chant and a devotional to the gods for the most part and the rhythm and the lyrics are functionally similar in some aspects to ritual song. Many chants are simply a call to say hi to the gods and hope that everyone's harmony isn't disturbed. Folk music at shinto festivals tends to be more catchy and dance-able.
looks like the Kannagi ED single will be released on 29Nov

Other than the ED song, I really like the second track "Kioku no Keshiki". It's just like in the OP single, whereas "Shiawase no Sagashi", calm and soothing, was a nice complement of the ultra-energetic "motto hade ni ne".
Tomatsu Haruka is really something. I would never have thought, when I heard that high pitched, clumsy yet so cliché voice for the first time, namely Lala Satalin Deviluke. At that time spring had just sprung, but boy how much the 18yo Haruka has grown and how much talent she has shown in these months, either as dubber and singer. She has a brilliant future in front of her.
I've been listening Nodame's ending song all day (soooooooooooooooooo addictive...) that I sort of forgot about the ending song for this particular anime being released today. I agree with Pelli, Tomatsu Haruka's singing abilities do not disappoint at all and I hope to see her grow as well. As far as the song goes, I was expecting a lot more for the full version (don't really like the latter half), but these songs tend to take a while before you end up listening them all day; so maybe my opinion will change later on. Still, the mood of this song is simply great, and in my opinion, is slightly better than the opening song itself.
Really like the full version of the ending song, Tomatsu did a great job.

Is there a release date for the OST yet?
A soundtrack CD(with seiyuu tracks, I think) is coming with the limited edition of DVD 3.
Some wonderful music news I just found out.
Everyone's curious when the songs from episode 10 would be released.
The answer is March 25th, 2009, since it'll be a special CD with the Limited Edition release (http://www.animate-shop.jp/ws/commodity_param/ctc/dvd/shc/0/cmc/4101840/) of volume 5.
I can't wait to own Takako's Junai Generation. Among others.
Looking forward to the soundtrack quite a bit, especially the piano versions of the OP and trailer bgm.
I like the ED's rolling stars and the winds blowing
Yes, the ending song is amazing. I ordered it from cdjapan and am waiting for it to arrive. At work, I listen to it on YouTube, although it is probably posted there illegaly. At least I have already paid for mine!
The ending song is really based on real Shinto prayers, according to this article (http://www.iknow.co.jp/lists/34614) I read. It certainly feels that way when I listen to it, like it is a real spiritual song.
I feel that something is missing in the episodes where the ending song is not there. Between the opening and ending songs, we get both sides of Nagi and the whole series. It has a "crazy" side and a "shrine maiden" side, and it is not really complete without both of them. (Although it goes a bit randomly from one to the other and back, at least in this first season.) Between them, the songs bring back the atmosphere of the whole show. That is how I feel.

Funny how no one mentions anything so long after the soundtrack has been released.
Pretty much good old Kousaki this time as well, the unassuming, melodic tracks in the soundtrack such as Hajimari, and Hidamari are my favourites.

Damn, Daitetsu's singing is good. Takako's awesome, but in an entirely different context. :heh:

I initially thought it's just a rip of what they sang in the anime, but it doesn't seem that way. I only bothered about Shirigeya at first. :heh:
Jin's singing here is definitely better. Still, a bit disappointed it's not full-song length.

Was there a full version of Takako's karaoke song? I don't have time to search for it..
For some strange reason, even though there was a karaoke episode in the anime yet there were no mentioning of there being image songs for this series.
All the songs on the Karaoke bonus disc were TV size, sadly.

I'm actually fairly cool on the Character Karaoke CD (http://blog.animeinstrumentality.net/2009/04/kannagi-character-karaoke-cd-nagi-uta-review/) since the music without the characters takes away from the humor. Still, you gotta love Daitetsu's track for sheer awesomeness as well as Nagi and Takako's tracks which retain their sense of fun and hilarity.
Not exactly an album I'll be coming back to over and over.
