Why do they always make the good ones into fighting games? Why can't they make them into rpgs?
Several good examples: Inuyasha, One Peice, Naruto
sorry about the wrong forum move if you like
They made Di Gi Charat into an RPG. :P

It's old, but there was a Ranma rpg. It's just that fighting games come more naturally to action anime like Naruto, OP, and IY. Still I'm hoping for a naruto rpg someday.
They should make an Azumanga Daioh rpg, that'd be the best game ever. :heh:
^^; Oh, there was a lot of anime series made into RPG's... [ Sailor Moon, Ranma, Akazukin Chacha, Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, Hack, Mahou Kishi Rayearth, and so much more. ] It's just that.. A lot of times, they aren't really good games. Some of the games were very popular, like the Hack games and the Slayers game.. But a lot of the others weren't very popular except with fans of the anime.
Also, it's obviously easier to make a popular fighting game out of an anime. Because.. The most important things to make an RPG.. Well, two of the most important things.. Are the characters and the story. And if it's based on an anime series, we already know about the characters and about the story.
I've seen several platform games and puzzle games of anime series... So I guess they don't just make fighting games. ^^

I'm not sayin RPGs suck or anything... but fighting games are nicer and more enjoyable to play than RPGs imo... I just like fighting human players as opposed to fighting computer controlled players... and plus matches can be quick....
and btw... firefox is one nice browser! tabs are key!

Making it into a fighting game would be easier than going for RPG. I mean, if you do make it into a RPG, then what's the story going to be? Perhaps a direct copy or slightly changed one from the Anime, which isn't exactly that interesting. Some do get original stories (like the Galaxy Angel games, and they're DAMN GOOD), but not a lot. With fighting games, they just gave to push in a skeleton story and let the player bash through the game, making it more "enjoyable" than just having a story he/she knows about being retold again.
You might get the image that there's more fighting games than non-fighting games since you're looking at the wrong series. Such as your example, Inuyasha, One piece and Naruto are all action oriented. Look at same more drama-ish series that also got games made after it: Chobits, Mahoromatic, Aoi yori Aoshi, etc.
You never hear of those other games though, the ones made into rpgs, or at least i hadn't heard of them. To be honest though, i haven't really been into anime for as long as some of you guys have been, maybe 3 years or so. So it's possible that i've missed those because of that.

I think it's more to do with the nature of the games instead of being "old" in the Anime scene (all 3 series I mentioned came around the time, if not after Inuyasha started). You see, I've seen the Naruto and One piece games on display even if they're all Japanese. The flashy effects and well known characters sells the game already, but what about some wordy RPG type game? That doesn't exactly work on the display window unless it has a really eye catching intro movie.
While most people would read about newest games on local magazines, visit local stores or read ENGLISH game websites, you won't see any of the story intense Japanese games show up unless you find their Japanese counterparts. A few of the more famous ones might get mentioned, but the ratio is probably enough to make the "there's only fighting games" impression for most people :P
Trust me, if you look at the "right places", you'd probably think there's too many RPGs instead :P But then again, there's not that many Anime->Game ports so no real complaints - yet.

Games made from anime are far more better than traditional American games. I prefer importing and playing Japanese games (which includes anime games) than buying a domestic game. The Love Hina game for the PS2 is very fun to play and I love Resident Evil: Outbreak. I think I played like at least 5 hours of Outbreak so far and dating/romance sims are way fun to play. Sure beats those stupid sport games. Tokimeki Memorial 3 and Girl's Side are more fun than playing a sports game. :heh: :heh:
What gets me is that American developers are trying to push their action based games into Japan and geting upset if it doesn't sell well while at the same time, rejecting Japanese anime, dating and romance, certain RPGS, non-action oriented, and cutesy games cuz they don't think they will sell well in the US.
IMHO, American gamers are missing out by choosing to boycott Japanese games cuz they think they will get bored cuz there is no mega fighting/action in the games made from Japan, well the ones that don't get sold here.

Get Backers on GBA is an RPG game i think but the one on the PS2 is a "beat em up" type of game.
If a Naruto fighting game was made it better be 3D and fast paced. If it is made 2D that's gonna suck, just try to imagine it. You want to have a huge 3D environment so you can do true ninja stuff and be stealthy. In a 2D game your just gonna jump and throw a shiruken and since it's 2D it'd be pretty hard to dodge.
That'd be cool, you'd have a Chakra(Catra? LOL) meter and got to choose how much you got to use, so like if you wanted to run up a tree or use just enough energy to hurt your opponent and not waste it. I wonder how they'd set up a system for the "sharingan" like Kakashi?
well i know of 3 naruto fighting games, 2 for the gamecube and 1 for the ps2... but i have no idea how they're set up. Being that they're on systems that are capable of 3d you'd think that they would do something like that.
I used to work for a video games store and my boss told me that Naruto 2 for gamecube was the best fighting game ever, better than snk vs capcom. But he's an ass and i got fired by him so take that as it comes.
There IS a Naruto RPG, but it's for the GBA. As far as reasoning for fighting games? I'd have to say that most of the people here are accurate in saying that a fighting game is a more logical route to go for fans frothing at the mouth to play as their favorite characters. In an RPG you're going to be limited to who you play as(standard is you're only going to be one character the whole time) and variations of situations(RPGs are only going to give you what they want you to see.) Where as in fighting games(I can't speak for the PS2 Naruto since I don't own it) such as Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen & Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2 for Gamecube, you can witness and participate in battles from either side of...Gaara vs. Haku or Orochimaru vs. Zabuza or Neji vs. Mizuki, or in an extreme case, Hinata, Shikamaru, and Sharingan Sasuke vs. Akamaru(yes, at the same time). Okay, really you can only do those combinations of characters in part 2, but you get my point. The combinations of stupid ideas are endless in fighting games, giving you endless hours of experimental delight to do any retarded thing you can dream up. So basically it's instant gratification for those of us whom just want to play as our favorite characters,(even though I still want Temari and Anko)do some really cool crap right off the bat, and otherwise just tear it up with them
I almost forgot...anyone attending A-Kon this year. I will be holding a Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 2 tournament at the GameStop booth. Anyone that attended last year may remember the tournament for the first game. My roommate is a GameStop store manager so he mostly ran it, but I was right there playing with everyone, kicking your butts. As it was a last minute decision I couldn't get the word out, but I want all the Naruto fans there in full force this year. You may see these same words posted throughout forums everywhere as the case is.

imo... Tekken Tag Tournament was the best fighting game ever... I have Naruto 2 for GC and it's quite fun... but the overall lack of depth and moves hurt the game in the strategy department... Naruto 2 is a very fun game cuz it's four players and easy... but not the best fighting game ever....

People like anime for the rich character development. You can't really reflect that in a fighting game. That sucks.
Plus, in a fighting game, say like Naruto, you don't end up doing what you want to see the characters in the anime do. Shikamaru doesn't go up to people and jab-kick-teleport in the manga or anime. He uses his shadows and tries to avoid combat. But you can't do that in a fighting game, and as a result you lose a lot of the flair the characters have. How can you Kage Bunshin and control the clones with Naruto real time? Why is Sakura a playable character? These are issues you run into that don't ring true for fans of the manga.
You end up having to fill the fighting game with a LOT of meaningless action. Nobody watches Prince of Tennis for the parts where they hit the standard forehands and backhands...yet, that's what the game mainly consists of...you're working with different media, and you have to get the most of what you have working for you, and what makes your anime unique out of your game, otherwise it's just a cash grab.
So you can make a fighting game out of it...so what...so can everyone else in every other anime.
Most every anime, even the ones with fighting in them, revolve around the character trying to set up a scenario where they can effectively use their big move...it takes time to do this. This is why a good percentage of anime action series actually work better as turn based strategy games...Naruto Konoha Senki for example.
But for the most part, you have to address each series individually. I think Cowboy Bebop would work AWESOME as an MMO. Turn on Big Shot, and look for a lead. Gundam...PC First Person Shooter, like MechWarrior.
Fighting games, however, are the easiest games to make...and so everyone does them...shameless cash grab for the most part...and that sucks...
there is a naruto rpg...i remember seeing an article of it a while back
and dont forget kenshin!
and oldie but a goodie for the PS1
there is also gunparade march, but since that came before the anime series it doesnt really count

Anyway, anime just being blindly made into fighting games is nothing new...the game industry does it when they have something popular and have no idea what to do with it...
I mean...just look at this classic gem:
http://www.netjak.com/images/games/vintage/shaq/Shaq_Fu.mov
That was made by the biggest game company in the industry. Fighting games are a crutch...sadly they'll make mediocre ones out of anime we love until the end of their cash flow.
I dont know if someone said this, but Green Green. Actually the anime was based on the game.

Well, we have:
Zoids VS I
Zoids VS II
Zoids Saga I
Zoids Saga II
I have Zoids VS II, it is a good game, the music rocks. :D
a qoute from a similar thread
Cowboy Bebop would be cool. Having gun fights with enemies while trying to capture the bounty, doing martial arts and flying the Swordfish II
there already is a cowboy bebop game. you probably havn't heard of it because it is so ridiculously bad. recomended only for the HARD hardcore bebop fans

There were some good games for the SNES made from Anime. THe DBZ RPG was good, easy to play even if you don't know Japanese, hyper dimension is the best dbz game made in my opinion, a good fighting game. There was also a Sailor Moon RPG, I thought it was alright.
I would like to see both of these games.
Hellsing - made in the same fashion as Devil May Cry or Castlevania for PS2, and you could play the game with either Alucard or Victoria, that would rock :D
Full Metal Panic - RPG With Real Time Battles, in where you could enter vehicles(Arm Slaves for example), get team members(Kurtz, Mao, Etc.) and when in time between missions you would be able to wander through Tokyo in school, Resolving problems and causing trouble like Sousuke usually does :D and of course CGI Movies with some cool scenes(And Sousuke being beaten by Chidori :D), now that would be COOL.
By the way there's a Cowboy Bebop game coming for PS2 where you can play with Faye, Spike, Jet, and Bandai also said the game will resolve some plot holes in the series :)

Gundam Wing RPG of some sort...
We have .hack series (4parts), im unsure if its a video game based on an anime or an anime based on a video game, either way it's pretty good.

I think this one is an anime and video game released concurrently (or at least close)? Or maybe since SIGN is considered the "main" story, the games could arguably be based on the anime.
Do doujin games count? I know stuff like QoH or Melty Blood (or even Glove on Fight) are popular enough among fans, even if they're relatively unknown otherwise... and QoH the the like are games based on an anime based on games. ^^
Perhaps fighting games are simply easier to make, as opposed to any other game type. Are there any First Person games based on anime? Doesn't have to be a straight shooter, but something along the lines of, say, Deus Ex.

*off topic* wasn't there a Mobile Suit Gundam game that just came out for PS2? i heard it wasn't that great.
There is a slew of Gundam Game titles since the days of Super-Nintendo/Famicom
The following references Super-Famicom for the released market of the title
-I remember a G-Gundam fighing game on the Super-Famicom
-Plenty of "Amalgamated Robot Games(that includes Gundam)" like SD G Generation Series, Sunrise Heroes, Sunrise World War, and mostly notably, the Super Robot Wars Series, which started since the days of the Red n' White Famicom, and still goes on strong to this day
-There was a PS One game (Japan Release Only) named MS Gundam "Char's Counterattack", based off the movie that concluded(for the most part) the rivalry/angst stemmed from the One Year War. The Game, I thought--back when I was playing it--was extremely well done. It featured unprecedented 3-D Gundam Action w/ excellent control schemes. And the story was not stuck within the premise of the original movie. What they did instead is by employing flashbacks, the player is able to fight in legendary scenes like "Sono Na wa Gundam," the Atomospheric re-entry battle with Char. in the Ah Baoa Qu--scenes that are the detractors and turning points of the Amuro/Char Rivalry.
Sadly, I can't find it anymore ><
--As far as recent PS2 Gundam actions are concerned... the reviews (Famitsu/US Official PS Magazine) have been nothing but lackluster--MS Gundam: Encounter in Space (Meguriai Sora) received a whopping 1 -star out of a total of 5; Famitsu didn't give it too much credit either... I can't remember the score, but I do remember it wasn't pretty.
--There are arcade ports like the Federation Vs. Zeon and Aeug Vs. Titans that looks promising. And since it's looking to get a US localization, I'll skip the import for that one if I decide to buy a copy.
There are a lot more out there--as a general rule, I am personally very wary of any games that is a "peripheral licensed merchandise." That applies to not only anime, but hollywood movies, too. For instance it took me a few month to decide to buy the Return of the King: the Game after its release--needless to say, it was worth every penny, but you see what I mean. I'd suggest the same for everyone save the hardcore fanboy who must have EVERY licensed merchandise. To such fanboy I say: "Spend on! you are the lifeblood of the industry, the bread and butter of the Producers^^"
Huh that was a pretty long post, >< hope we all got something useful outta this^^
Til Next Time,
There's also;
Gundam: Battle Assult 3 (this' based off of Gundam SEED) - PS2
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED
- Wonder Swan
- PS2
SD Gundam Force - GBA
Fullmetal Alchemist - PS2
Prince of Tennis - PS2 & GBA
Naruto - GC

Heh heh...
Hi there. I'm the guy who was playing Rock Lee (whose butt didn't get kicked, since I took 1st place :P ). That tournament was a lot of fun. I'll definately be there again this year, although not playing Lee, since the poor kid got nerfed.
Naruto GNT 2 is a great game, with more depth than it generally gets credit for. It's no Guilty Gear, but it doesn't drive you crazy with cheap moves either.
If you're looking for something different, but still action, try One Piece - Treasure Battle for GC. There is a fighting mode, but the main game is about moving and protecting a treasure chest. The strategies for this game are bizarre, and most of the party games that you can unlock are a blast.
Sidenote: there's a Ghost in the Shell FPS for the PS1, but it's pretty bad.
*off topic* wasn't there a Mobile Suit Gundam game that just came out for PS2? i heard it wasn't that great.
Yeah, it's Gundam SEED on the PS2 (Japan only - import)
It would be really cool if some company could develop a Naruto MMORPG, based on the naruto world settings and traditions.
Races will be based on 5 countries , Fire, Waves, Wind, Earth and Lighting.
and each countries will have hidden villages for a player to start on.
Things will get really interesting if each Countries ways of training, fighting, school test exams ,ninja ranks, and jutsus.
Events or Quest should based on Assassination, Ninja wars , Steal an item, Gather information, or even Kidnapping (they are good if they pull this one off).
graphics should be applied like Naruto: Narumett Hero(ps2) 3d manga like coloring. :hmm:
Also, there's that Naruto 2 fighting games. Which borrows elements of the SF EX game series, combined with SSBM (for the 4 player mode part). And overall it's just an outstanding game, if only Bandai picked this game up as well. :hmm:
well, the're alot of anime RPGs, here are a couple of em,
One Piece - theres an RPG for the PSOne and another RPG for the GBA
Naruto - Theres an SRPG(didn't play it, so I'm not sure) for the GBA
FMA - I think the GBA game is an RPG but I'm not sure
Get Backers - I heard that one of the PSOne titles was an RPG
Inuyasha - there is an RPG for the PS2, I heard that they are bringing it to the US
Ruruni Kenshin - there was an RPG for the PSOne
Groove Adventure Rave - theres an RPG for the PSOne(I watched the anime after I played this game ^^;;; )
And If you're a Mecha fan theres a game called Super Robot Taisen(Wars), its one of the most succesful(SP?) Anime game series in Japan, its an SRPG, it takes lots of Robots from diffrent shows and puts them all in one game, so you have Mazingers,Getters, Gundams and EVAs fighting side by side xD
We have .hack series (4parts), im unsure if its a video game based on an anime or an anime based on a video game, either way it's pretty good.
as far as I know, ,hack started as a game at first, but then they wanted to make an anime and manga out of it, the only reason why the anime was released before the game was that the events of the anime took place before the events of game, and the manga was relased after the game(I'm not sure bout this =/ ) because the events of the manga took place after the game =/

There's also at least 3 Hunter X Hunter RPGs so far, and no fighter that I know of. I haven't played any of them, but it looks like they're loosely based on the finished story arcs so far (the Hunter exam, York Shin city, and Greed Island).
I think this is kind of a shame, since all of those messed-up Nen powers would make for a really different and interesting action game.

Check this one out: http://www.dimps.co.jp/gunslingergirl/
It's a stealth/tactical game along the lines of Metal Gear Solid or Counter-Strike... with pre-teen girls doing all the killing. It was a good show, but somehow I don't see this one making it to the US.
