Whee~! It's the official L'Arc~en~ciel thread! Post questions about the band, ramble about the band, post news about the band.... heck, just talk about the band!
I guess I'll ask a question to get the conversation started - What's your all time favorite Laruku song and album?
I don't have an all time favorite song, because if I listen to one song over and over, I get sick of it and can't listen to it for at least half a year.
My current album obsession is 'Dune'. Even though it has Hyde's 'slur' voice, and is an earlier work, its still awesome. My favorite songs on the album are 'As if in a dream', 'ushiniwareta nagame', 'floods of tears', 'dune', 'tsuioku no jookei'... and if I keep going I'll name all the tracks... -_-;;
Favorite song?
Not sure, but I think it'd be Driver's High (GTO OP1).
But album? No idea..
And oh, if you feel like it. Check out their official site (http://www.larc-en-ciel.com). It's nice.

My favorite song is 'Shinjitsu to Gensou to'..its just..really sexy
and does anyone else think Hyde looks incredibly young for his voice? I just cant get them to match up

Favourite album: Heart - it's so artistic IMO...
Favourite song: Loreley - I love Hyde's emotions here...
Since you said post ANYTHING...
Don't know if I'm allowed to do this... but here's a link to the REAL MV of L'Arc~en~ciel's Ready Steady Go with karaoke subs done by Kuraki-Fans.

As far as I know, subbed MVs are more legal than non-licensed fansubs... so eh. :heh:

I haven't heard much of their music, but from what I've heard, I'd say Driver's High. I haven't seen GTO, but I want to. I'll have to buy the dvds sometime.

I agree, I think Hyde looks more like 20 than his 30s. Gackt is supposedly one year younger (going by fan's guestimates because he claims to be over 400) and looks older than Hyde. But that only increases his bishie factor. ;) Although, I do suppose he gets his hoarseness from smoking. In their earlier songs, his voice was rather clear...
Don't know if I'm allowed to do this... but here's a link to the REAL MV of L'Arc~en~ciel's Ready Steady Go with karaoke subs done by Kuraki-Fans.
I have about three different versions of that PV, Kuraki included. -_-;; I'm going to use the chibi Hyde and Yoshiki in my economics project. I liked the video, although I was pissed that I couldn't see the entire band together until the end.... XP Stay Away is my favorite PV. Gods, how I laughed when I first saw it...

Wow my Favorite L'arc Song huh?
that would go to:Lies and Truth
That was a tough one to make. I also like Blurry Eyes, Flower, and Winterfall.
My Favorite PV without a doubt...is also Lies and Truth I loved the way Hyde dressed up in this one. Dressed like some holy Priest in his Tux and Trench. Nicely done.

Whee~! Anyone heard 'Hitomi no Juunin'? I just found a radio-rip of it. Man, it screams classic Laruku ballad. Hyde hits some really high notes, just like he used to! *was worried smoking damaged his voice*
On a first listen, I really like the song. Its meloncholy sounding, and the image I got of it is the kind of song you listen to on a cold winter's day remninescing about lost love while watching the snow fall . . .
Yay! I hope it is as good as you say!
I can't wait for Smile! >_<
Stay Away is my favorite PV. Gods, how I laughed when I first saw it...
What's so funny with the Stay Away PV? Is it the dance in the end of the video?
Haa, what a tough decision, I can't pick which song I like best. I like Farewell and Blurry Eyes and Ibara no Namida and Neo Universe and Love Flies and Winterfall and...and...oh, there's too many of them!! For PVs, my favourite one is the Neo Universe one, it's nice and weird. Hmm, but I like the Blurry Eyes one too, Hyde makes such a cute girl. Ah, and I also like any Laruku song where Hyde's voice goes high, like Dearest Love and Shinjitsu to Gensou to. No wait, I think he does that in just about every song. Maybe that's why I love them so much. ^__^ Worst album would probably be that Ectomorphed Works thing, best is definitely Real cos I like just about every song on that album.

Favorite song? I can't just tell one song ;_; coz' I have many favorites :p Some of them are Anemone (everytime I hear that song, I feel like my heart is gonna torn apart ~(*-*)~ I don't know why, maybe because of Hyde's voice, I can't help quivering ^^; ), Ibara no Namida, Flower, Honey, Snow Drop...and more!
As for the album, I would say Ray :D

What's so funny with the Stay Away PV? Is it the dance in the end of the video?
Yeap! The entire dancing segments in the video. Ken and Tetsu's synched movements ala old school bands, Hyde's 'WTF are you doing' dance (almost like Gackt's Vanilla dance, only less refined :P), and the dance at the end. (The chorus line 'Causes stain... stay away' didn't help much either... I even made a 'commercial' for Tide using that lyric line as a joke once...) Caught me completely off guard. Of course, on repeated viewings, the effect lessened, but its still funny to show to friends and have them go WTF?! (Of course, I show them this video after they've seen other Laruku stuff.... otherwise they would never take them seriously!) La'Cryma Christi's Jounetsu no Kaze video wins in the cheese comedy factor though. Psycho le Cemu would be up there, but hey, all of their videos are a joke (literally). ^_~.
Everytime I watch the Niji video I get the craving for green apples.... O.o;;
Wow, allot of people here like 'Ibara no namida'! It is a good song, ne? ^_^.
Super Edit #1 !

Here's the torrent link to the Hitomi no Juunin PV! Man, this PV is a rip. >.<# I won't spoil the first viewing, because it is really interesting the first viewing, but when you see the end, you'll know why I say its a rip. XP

listeing to Kazenikienai right now..
the majority of L'arc songs i dislike, but there are a few gems which are in all my playlists ^^
blurry eyes, flower, blame, fourth avenue cafe, honey, natsu no yuutsu and driver's high..
its good when in the middle of a song, hyde randomly goes "~whoa~".. and then you try to do it at karaoke and all your friends laugh at you :(

Are you talking about hearing them in the morning or having everything of theirs? I usually listen to one song of theirs in the morning as well, but its during my workout. ^^. Since I workout a half hour morning and evening, I hear them before I go to school and before I go to sleep. :D

Thank God Yukihiro gets only one song. Man, I don't like him! XP Although, if he had none.... :thinker: But still, including Spirit Dreams Inside is a ripoff. >.<##
Im new to l'arc, introduced cause drivers high, and i already really liked spirits dreams inside from when i saw ff . I never realised it was them cause it was in english untill recently. Did they do more fully english songs? Or songs in the trend of drivers high ?

But I must admit Spirits Dream Inside ain`t bad at all.

Laruku doesn't do many english songs. They'll include english phrases, like most Japanese bands, but they rarely do all english songs.
Now, Hyde, the lead vocalist, on his solo project had all english songs and mostly english, and english/japanese mix. I have a copy of roentgen done entirely in english, although I know it was released in japanese too. His sound is totally different from Laruku though.
Now, I can't promise the english is the best you'll hear (Cape of Storms sounds like a drunken ballad to me... but I still like it. :heh: ) but it is better than most of the engrish you'll hear out there. I think he had an english person check his stuff...? He's written some poems in english, and his fluency surprised me, even though he used a wrong verb tense in one.
Now, say the words of love if you wanna kiss me! Love, if you wanna kiss me - Love if you wanna dance with me - then let me be...

The above CD single was released yesterday (06/02).
L'Arc~en~Ciel's new single, "Jiyu e no shotai," is coupled with P'UNK~EN~CIEL's debut single, "milky way." First press edition presents 4-color CD label and P'UNK~EN~CIEL card. The CD label of regular edition has the same art but is printed with white ink on shiny CD surface instead.
Hyde rocks and P'UNK~EN~CIEL rocks HARDER. Go for it.

Ooo, I did not like P'unk~en~ciel's single. I don't like Tetsu's voice at all. It sounded fine on some of his solo works, but ... how do I put it... its not whiny enough to be alternative, and its not angry enough to be rock? On his solo works, it was fine because the background drowned out his voice... but when its that prominent... eh, I just don't like it. I hope Tetsu doesn't get all of P'unk~en~ciel's (how would you shorten that? Punku? Punkuru? :heh: ) singles. Tetsu, I lovest thee, but thine voice is not my cup of tea!
Come to think of it... I don't really like the song much either... maybe it will grow on me?

After listening to Punk en ciel's Milky Way I have decided to wait for thier next album no matter how much I love Jiyuu e no Shoutai =_="
i don't like jrock, but i love them. imo Hyde's voice is definitely what makes the band unique and stand out from others ^^ (though the Hitomi no Jyuunin single with all the other members siging Ready Steady Go is really cute hehhh)

Doesn't fit together with the music super well.
On his solo works, it was fine because the background drowned out his voice... but when its that prominent... eh, I just don't like it. LOL! "... it was fine because the background drowned out his voice..." That's hilarious and very honest. ;)
Their new single; Jiyu e no Shotai is great. Hyde's voice sure is something!
And I have to say that I really liked the re-make (you can call it a remake, right?) of Milky Way. Tetsu voice is good too.
I hope that P'unk~en~Ciel will keep the style they had in this song in the future, because I like it.
EDIT >
I'd also like to ask if there's anyone else that noticed the big difference between Floods of Tears in Dune and the single. Anyone?
Why isn't it the same..?
Hi !
I search the sub of the Smile DVD.
I just want the sub of 'recording part' in english or french.
Someone got it ?
Thx !!

There's often 'single version' and 'album version' of songs. Sometimes album's version is better, sometimes not.
djezus, trying to find subs for Jpop stuff is like trying to find subs for dramas. Be thankful for what you have, and if you want to understand it, learn Japanese.
I agree with you, Chiaki Nozomi :(
But in France, we got some teams who translate japan series tv...
So maybe someone makes this sub (because L'Arc~en~Ciel is mythical :) )
and I don't search the sub of the live song, just the sub of the short documentary (about 20min) ^^
So if someone here got it for me :help: ....
Bye ! :)

- write up a live report
- get their autographs
- grab Hyde's non-existant bum for me! XD Or throw an orange rose onstage...
And have lotsa fun and remember the plight of those who wanted to go but couldn't! *goes off and sulks some more in her pool of self pity*

Hiii... Laruku fans right here!
fave album : Smile, Real
fave song : depends on the situation. for example, in the morning, to get myself hyped up, i listen to Ready steady Go. in my romantic mood, i listen to Anata or Hitomi no Juunin. Finale is one of my fave too.
Probably the reason why Laruku don't make too many songs in english is becoz their english is terrible... try listen to ken & yukkie's pronounciation... my god... :uhoh:

....yes, I agree. I live in Oxford in the UK but if they come to, say, Paris for example, I will definitely travel over to see them!
I first come to know L'Arc when I was in school...there was this Japanese girl who was a massive fan of L'Arc. She had every single one of their albums, and even get sister/parents in Japan to send them over to Oxford as soon as they were out! She got loads of people completely hooked on L'Arc...
That was about 6 years ago...OMG so long ago!!
I like Hitomi No Jyuunin...the high notes sound great! although they probably digitally fiddled with the recording a bit to make it sounds so good...no offence to Hyde, but I have never hear them live...I have also heard Time Goes On. I thought I will listen to it more times, and maybe it will grow on me a bit more...I am like that with some of their songs...
anyone heard the song 'A Swell in the Sun'? I remember I was quite impressed by it after listening it 20+ times...If you have heard 'Pieces' then you might perceive in it certain similarities with 'Hitomi No Jyuunin'...
In the Ready Steady Go single, the only version of Ready Steady Go I like was Ken's. What do people think? Yukihiro's vocal talent is...well... :eyebrow:
You guys who saw L'Arc live, consider yourselves exceedingly lucky and pray for the consolations of those of us who don't have the chance!

Really can't decide on just one, because they're all very different.
So to all of you, who bought the new single: What's this P'unk-en-ciel thing about? I'm thinking of getting this single, but don't really like Tetsu's voice...^^°

For the juicy bits, go visit Otakon's official forum. They made a section just for Laruku fans, and many of them posted post-concert thoughts about their experience. It's not the same as watching them live yourself, but it's comforting to know that someone else enjoyed it.

I saw them there. Not being a major Larku fan I only took in the beginning of the concert, but they seriously rocked. The drums were intense and went right through my body without overwhelming the rest of the music. Unfortunately the vocals were a bit drowned out by the guitars, but not too badly to keep me from enjoying the sound of his voice. It made me wish I had time for more, but I needed to get onto the line for the masquerade.
There wasn't much talking between songs, but the lead singer did greet the crowd in English and asked us if we ate crab. (Crab is the regional delicacy in Baltimore.) He said that he liked the crab. :D
I'm afraid that I can't tell you which songs I heard them play because I really don't know most of their music by name. Sorry, I'm really not a big J-Pop fan. One of them sounded very familiar though. :heh: I hope that someone who knows their music better than I do was there and can tell you more.

Who likes L'Arc En Ciel? I mean, c'mon... how can you not like these guys?
For example, they sang Driver's High, first OP for GTO and they also sang Ready Steady Go for FMA. These guys are kick ass, they were also at Otakon this year where they held a concert.
Thoughts on these guys? Hate them? Like them? Or just plain don't care?
And for the unlucky people like me, who missed the concert. Here's a few pics! (http://www.dvdvisionjapan.com/L'Arc~en~Ciel.htm)

Crap, gomen, I didn't see this thread earlier and started one of my own.
Anyways, favorite song: "Stay Away" and favorite Album: "Real".
Man, I wish I was there for the concert...
I was at the concert as well. I must say that they did very well. The crowd loved them ;) As for me well, I don't really like them but they did offer a pretty neat concert, I must say.
I don't like their music, BUT I got one big question here, the lastest opening song of FMA is really good. I love that opening song and I also like the previous one. Did these guys sing those songs? Because if they did I would have to take back what I just said about their music.
Please someone tell me the name of those songs I would appreciate it :)

They sang Ready Steady Go but they didn't sing Rewrite. It was sung by Asian Kung Fu Generation.
Anyways, during the Laruku concert in Otakon... when Hyde was talking... did he say: "Did you eat crabs?" Or "Did you eat craps?" because... his english wasn't very... uhhhh, well polished.

Obviously he said "crab." The other wouldn't make much sense, would it? In case you didn't know, crab is the regional delicacy of Baltimore. That's why he brought it up.
I certainly had crab there and if you didn't, then you missed something special. The best was the Phillips crab cakes. (Phillips is a seafood restaurant at the food mall near the convention center.) Their crab cakes were fresh buttered crab meat wrapped in a fried shell. It was wonderfully delicious, nothing like any crab cake I have ever had anywhere else.

Not sure if there's a thread on this already, but does anyone else like L'Arc~en~ciel? They're a J-Rock Band. I love them. Hyde has a really good voice. x3 I love Hyde.

Edit: After taking a good look at the L'arc~en~Ciel website I noticed that amazingly they actually took a picture of me! I'm in the front row on this balcony in this picture. Only readers of the L'Arc~en~ciel Thread will ever see this extremely rare picture of me. Congratulations!

Seriously, that really is me at the right edge of that picture. It's too bad that the lighting isn't the best.
Aha!! thought that would escape me!!! :o HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Anyway I wish I could've seen that.. Maybe one day I'll travel far enough to catch one.

Well, with so much great new songs, I've just had to revive this thread! http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/9084/hidu9.gif
Laruku's next single: My Heart Draws A Dream (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buGuQNWRWyM) will be out on August 29th! I'm loving this song, really mesmerizing. And the PV is just beautiful, I can't get enough of Hyde-san's beautiful voice! http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/3342/wooi2ey2.gif
This ballad also features the new SUBARU car commercial ^^
Another one: Daybreak's Bell (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFZ_1BgxYew) is planned for October 10th. That song sounds more energetic and will be the theme of Mobile Suit Gundam 00 :D
Shine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4SwTDAfpJY), which is the opening theme of Seirei no Moribito, doesn't have any release planned (as far as I know) >.<!
Wee~!! I'm seeing the new album coming! http://img63.imageshack.us/img63/1167/nananaim6.gif
I always get nervous when my favourite bands are releasing new songs because I really want to love them and sometimes I just can't. L'arc~en~Ciel hasn't failed me yet, though. I'm looking forward to this!

Ready Steady Go is pure ownage
It's been half a year since the song debuted, and I haven't seen as single for it anywhere. I've been looking around for a while and haven't found a PV, and it doesn't seem to be on the track list for their new album in November so...has anyone heard anything about a Single version?

My favourite now has to be DAYBREAK'S BELL, the OP for Gundam 00, the latest gundam series. The vocals are really captivating....so much optimism and energy in it and the rock music and rock guitar jamming especially are really nice.
The other song that came with their latest single, Natsu no Yuuutsu (Summer melancholy?), is pretty kickass. It started off lighthearted, then it progressed into hard rock, IMO, really nice.
I wasn't too fond of Shine when I first heard it, but after watching 20 episodes of Seirei no Moribito in a row, it's seriously grown on me. It's generic L'Arc~en~Ciel and very comforting for that reason. Like going to your usual cafe and getting your usual drink, you know? :D Not saying they shouldn't experiment, but same-old same-old is nice too sometimes.

Anyway, I was wondering, can anyone give me any recommendations for any songs from L'Arc~en~Ciel?
I recently started to like Drink It Down and Shine from them, and want to hear more from them.
I also had a few other songs from them that a friend sent me, but they were unnamed, and I no longer have them...

Hyde's voice is godly, I just can't describe how his voice is powerful and sweet.

I just learned about it and announced it in the Seirei no Moribito thread.
Shine is Seirei no Moribito opening and Nexus 4 is used on a commercial for Subaru Legacy.
It will be out on august 27.
The Kiss album took me a while to get into, but now I can kinda appreciate it. Not as much as their earlier album, but it's still good. I love Daybreak's Bell - but not the PV, which sucks - and My Heart Draws a Dream. Seventh Heaven, Alone in La Vida and Pretty Girl are good too. Sunadokei isn't bad.

What are you talking about? The Daybreak's Bell PV is really cool~! In my opinion...
I have their 'Tierra', 'HEART', 'ray', 'AWAKE', 'True', 'SMILE', and 'REAL' albums. Plus their 'DRINK IT DOWN', 'Shine / Nexus 4', '叙情詩', 'Blurry Eyes', 'Driver's High', 'New World', and 'STAY AWAY' singles. With the first two Chronicle DVDs. I've still got a lot more to get TT__TT

I do agree with Dorfl, Daybreak's Bell PV is not their best, it's kind of empty compared to their other ones ^^;
On the contrary, I love My Heart Draws a Dream's PV! Totally heart-warming http://d.imagehost.org/0150/love_10.gif
Any slight info on the DVD release ? I want to lick my screen ASAP ^^"
Not yet :(

Of course, the artists of Fullmetal Alchemist's OP "Ready Steady Go" and the movie OP, and ED "Link" and "Lost Heaven"
What do you think of their work? I love it, to be honest. I can say out of all of their songs I only dislike one of them. And I don't even dislike it that much. My favorite song would have to be "New World".
Anyway, discuss, plz~ ^.^

Well, honestly, I've never listened to a Larku song that I actually hated. Sure, there were some that I didn't like as much as others, but overall, they consistently make quality music. I prefer their older stuff, like Blurry Eyes, Honey, The Fourth Avenue Cafe, Driver's High, and flower, though. :)
