Every game on there is Japanese retail, you have to take into consideration the prices of living is japan is WAY higher than it is in the US, so games that cost $30 USD to use cost $60 USD too them.

Yes Asia (www.yesasia.com) - they have Japanese, Asian (basically japanese version for release in the rest of asia- sometimes cheaper, sometimes comes with English/Chinese instruction manual), and Korean games. Worldwide shipping, and a 'chitload of other stuff too. It's worth taking a browse though.

hi new poster here.

i was just wondering. i havent been in the console scene for awhile now, since i've been playing FFXI hardcore for the last 2 years. my question is, do i need a modded PS2 to play these import games? i really want to play that naruto pt. 3 fighting game, and it just occurred to me that my US-spec PS2 might not be able to play this import.

thanks in advance for all inputs.

Yes. Mods are required to play import games. You could also get a Japanese PS2 if you don't like the idea of using mods.

You can though also use the PS-X Change (for psx) and Breaker Pro disk (for ps2) and or an emu to play em.

Along with these purcahses comes with a $5 coupon which is cool since my next order will be SD Gundam Gashapon Wars for GCN.

I saw Japanese import DS games at Electronic Frys for $50... that Shounen Jump Super Smash Brothers-style game and some Naruto fighter. I think that there were a few others too.

That was pretty surprising...

Me can recommend japanpa (http://www.japanpa.com/),
now a part of my favourite import shops.
Unfortunately their Quick find option doesn't work well with firefox,
just switch to advance mode.

Btw,
always compare the prices (include the P&P cost) of each retailer before ordering,
sometimes the best deals isn't really the best one.

It is called bank transfer (or sometimes fund transfer).
Play-asia does accept such payment method, but also alternative methods as well, like Moneybookers, paypal etc.
I reckon you should check the help section from each shop, because it varies.

but i have heard of somehting called Paypal, but before i start messing up, waste my money by it, could someone tell me how it works? maybe it can solve my problem of payment methods so that i dont have to bank the money to another bank acount with the use of internet banking
Basically you setup an account with paypal, wait till it gets verified,
then topup money onto it, from you bank account, wait few days till the
money appears on your account and then make a payment.
Or you can pay directly via debit or credit card, but over paypal.
Like before, best to do is to read the help stuff from the paypal site.

Do you guys have any places that specialise in the UK?

If you order from yesasia you won't need to worry about customs.
If you're ordering it from a non European shops, such as Play-asia,
ask them to mark it down (to £18 or max £30 if they are based in the US)
If you need more help about importing stuff to the uk,
i suggest you to visit the ntsc-uk forum,
they also have Buy, Sell & Exchange section.

I used to play Chinese RPG games back when I was younger in my home country (no, not China, HK, or Taiwan :p ). Er, well, I played some after I came here to the U.S., namely 絕代雙驕 I & II. Ok, so I don't have the facility to type chinese so I copied that name from the other thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=8152). :heh:

Anyway, I've seen a couple of Japanese games that look really nice but unfortunately I can't read Japanese. I don't like playing a game without knowing the story. However, my Chinese is better (though not that good) and I know (in the past) that some Japanese games get translated into Chinese. Also, there are some good Chinese games as well (that thread above mentions a few) so I was wondering where I could buy them from the U.S.

I know YesAsia (http://us.yesasia.com) has some, but are there other sites that sell Chinese PC games that I can order from the U.S.? As I mentioned, my Chinese is average (well, elementary-school level + a bit more) so I have trouble reading through Chinese web sites easily to find the info I want. If you could give some recommendations of such sites that would be great. If they are in Chinese then I will slowly read through them. At least it is easier than searching for it in the first place. :p

Thanks!

That game is a tough one. Try ebay and look for the limited edition because its more common although pricey in the $90-$120 range. I have no idea why though. Or try anime conventions and small shops that carry import anime and manga. I got one of mine for $25 (standard edition)

Yes, I saw the other "Where to buy Japanese games" sticky but that's generally aimed at people outside of Asia so...

I know import stuff is literally everywhere in Hong Kong but not all of them are genuine so, I want to find out what trustworthy places there are.

What I'm generally looking for is import game magazines such as Famitsu in Japanese (don't want the Chinese version), console games (preferably places that does the pre-order goodies too!), Manga (JP only again!) and Anime DVDs.

I've never really been interested in import stuff until recently so the only place I know is Sogo in Causeway Bay (銅鑼灣). Are there any other good places?

And don't worry, you can write names in Chinese because I can read them :)

Hope someone can help out XD

Well you could probably order a mod chip online for around $50. You can install it yourself or just bring it in to a nearest game store that can do the modifying for you. But the store I went to asked for $100, using their mod chip and their service. It's over priced, especially import games are around $70 to $80. Not worth it if you ask me.

"Unfortunately, Getchu.com online shop only ships to addresses within Japan. We appreciate your understanding."

seems like the only way to get eroges is from himeya or nippon-export.

nippon-export is more of a hassle, cuz u gotta send a request for them to add it to the inventory.

Go with Yesasia. They have free worldwide shipping and don't price gouge like Himeyashop.com. Playasia is alright too, but Yesasia is often a little bit cheaper and Duty Free. Plus Playasia doesn't have free shipping, though I recall Playasia has one service that may make it preferable too Yesasia in some cases, I can't remember exactly what it is though.

There should be no reason to use Himeyashop though unless you like markups on your games ranging from meagre to outrageous and odd item descriptions. Oh and USD$19.00 S&H at the bare minimum regardless of weight, value or size. As is always the case with Japan they have no concept of fair price whatsoever.

One final thing, in case you want to use UPS, it's going to cost you.... USD $75.00 for the first item and $15.00 for any additional item and a crap return policy. I can't stress this enough that you are getting ripped off ROYALLY if you use this website.

Unless your buying PC-Eroge in which case no matter where you go you'll get gouged so feel free to shop away. It's funny because if a company opened up a site that fixed it's prices to the U.S Market for Japanese PC Games (There may very well be one that I don't know about) they'd stand to make a fortune since no Japanese online retail company would be able to compete with them without lowering their prices substantially.

Well the prices seem to be about the same as Playasia and much much lower than HimeyaShop which would probably have already declared bankruptcy were they not apparently the only English (as in the webpages language) H-Game selling website. I actually got my two SRW W copies for free from YesAsia it would seem since it never showed up on my credit cared bill and I have the games in my room as I write this. I completely disagree that they overcharge though, they charge slightly less than retail outlets and its quiet affordable compared to the likes of HimeyaShop and Getchu.

Plus even if shipping is slightly built into the price, that would make the actual products prices far cheaper than retail and still cheaper than the USD $19.99 S&H Standard shipping from HimeyaShop, and impossibly cheaper than the USD $75.00 Expedited FedEX option, which is completely outrageous.

Yep, rapage. Unless you use ebay your going to get gouged. Yet low and behold. http://www.getchu.com/soft.phtml?id=81021 67.99 USD and a mail order deal for $USD 47.33. I don't know what they charge for S&H, but I checked Himeyashop and they are gouging again at USD $80.00.

Been looking for days and days but it just seems impossible to do. I have found a hell lot of listing for these games on http://www.tw.ebay.com/ and http://tw.auctions.yahoo.com/ but like Yahoo auctions japan, the only way to get stuff from there is contact an errand service that will get the stuff for you.

But I don't think any errand services exists in Taiwan or China, so the I thought about play-asia and emailed them about that but I have not received any answer yet, but I don't think they will be able to get them for me. yesasia.com has the taiwanese versions listed on there, but they are all sold out of it.

Oh I see that both a chinese and Taiwanese verion has been released. I think the chinese version is called. Heroine Anthem: The Elect of Wassernixie

So far I could make out 3 different publisher for those games (Heroine Anthem 1 and 2)

Chinese publisher for Heroine Anthem 1 & 2:

Winking Entertainment: http://www.winkingworks.com/ (I am pretty sure Winking Entertainment is the chinese publisher for both games)

And the taiwanese publishers are:

Heroine Anthem 1 (Third Wave) (The website is dead)

and

Heroine Anthem 2 (Soft World) sg.soft-world.com/main/index02.htm

I am not sure about all this though.

The only official website for that first game that I could find that still works is:

http://www.winkingworks.com/ha/

The games are spelled like that in Taiwanese (or is it simplified chinese?):

Heroine Anthem: The Elect of Wassernixie 聖女之歌 人魚的新娘

Heroine Anthem 2: The Angel of Sarem 聖女之歌2 撒雷母天使

Besides all that info, I don't know where to look or what to do to get this game.

So what should I do? I don't care if I get the taiwanese or chinese version of those games, I just want the games...

So anyone think they could give me a hand or a tip on to how to get these games?

Do they ship outside Japan? I'm looking, but I'm not seeing any indication that they do. They seem to want me to register before I can purchase, and there's no option for foreign addresses. I could just be missing it and/or an idiot, though.
Quite a late response but I almost never check here so ^^;

Getchu does not ship to addresses outside of Japan, so just like Amazon.co.jp, all you can do is stare at those prices and drool.

You can try Paletweb (http://www.paletweb.com/top.asp), since they offer the cheapest prices I know around.

If I were you though, I'd get the PS2 version of CLANNAD, since the game is only 100 times better with voice.

Or you can go for the unofficial guide to "voice patching (http://www.geocities.com/sleephook/clannad/)" your PC version of CLANNAD (which I did and it worked perfectly), but you will still need to have a PS2 version of the game in order to extract the necessary files.

I thought Amazon.co.jp ships internationally, it just costs an arm and a leg?

Anyway, I'm really looking to buy Japanese visual novels (Higurashi, Tsukihime, Fate, etc), but I'm wondering, can you buy these games in Dealer's Rooms at conventions like Otakon? Are there any stores in the Japanese areas of towns like New York City or San Francisco that sell doujin/visual novel works? I travel around the country, so I figure if so, I can maybe save on shipping instead of buying online.

Amazon.jp will ship books or music or movies, but they refuse to ship any type of game/software- all ages or not.

As for finding such things at Conventions, there's a good chance that the odd booth will have a copy of popular, commercially available games such as FSN or Kanon, but most likely they'll price it much higher than normal.

The previous question was where he could find another site that sells Ero-games besides www.Himeya.shop. And www.play.asia.com definitely doesn't have the answer to his question.

To answer his question: Sorry guy Himeyashop.com is like your best bet for Ero-games especially with their good selection of them and reliability, you just have to grin and bear it with their prices.

That game is a hard find! The closest I came was the Tsukibako set, which has Tsukihime, the sequel game (I can't think of its title right now) and I believe one of the Melty Bloods or an OST or something - it was going for about 500 bucks USD when I saw it on Himeyashop back in April.

Other than that, try Yahoo Japan's Auctions.

Hey, I'm looking to sell Heroine Anthem 1 and Heroine Anthem 2. If you live in the U.S., I'm willing to part with them for $40 (this includes shipping).

I studied abroad in China last year and picked the games up because I heard about them from an import gaming community. However, I have not had the time to play the games because I bought a Wii and a DS Lite. ;)

Anyway I have the original CD cases and CDs, manuals for both of the games, a mini-strategy guide and a music CD for the first game (the second game apparently already comes with a music CD bundled in it), and a bonus bookmark that came with the second game. Unfortunately I have no retail boxes because I needed to save space in my luggage. But I kept all the important stuff.

I was looking to sell it on eBay but I sort of felt that I wouldn't get any bids for it. So now I'm hunting for people on Google who might be interested. If you ARE interested, let me know.

Do you really just have to send the money there? No forms or anything? I mean, how will they know who you are and what order you're paying for?

First Email:

"[Palet] Automatic mail for order check (XXXXXX)"

This is first email they send u. it contains the confirmation info for the item u bought.

Second Email:

"About your purchase items.{(Your Name Here)}(#XXXXX,)"

This email usually comes the next business day, 24 hours later or so. It asks for the shipping method and all that stuff. so u just add it together and paypal it to them. I ordered Kara no Shoujo from them 3 weeks before the release date and they shipped it the day it came out which was July 4th.

Third Email:

"Thanks for payment!!"

Contains the total u paypal'd to them and the address the item will be shipped to. If its a item in stock they'll ship it within 1 or 2 days. If the item is a pre-order item they ship it around the time it comes out.

Last Email:

"The item was shipped!!"

This is the last email they send u when the item is shipped. They'll tell u the tracking number if u used EMS.

O yea, and try not to cancel orders with them. i hear they ban u after the second cancellation of an order. So make sure u want the item before u place it. They dont give any warnings.

I've bought Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and Kara no Shoujo from them. They package it nicely by wrapping the item with bubble wrap then with newspaper and finally sticking it in a pretty tight fitting box. Don't blame them if customs decides to cut it open though...

Put down your order number during the payment. In one of the screens there's a field where you can leave a message to the person you're sending money to.

And if the name on your PayPal account and what they have on record is the same, they can match via that, too.

plmko
2008-07-28, 06:07
paypal has your name, address, phone number, etc attached to your email. When you pay the receiver is indicated upon accepting the money of your details. So I'm assuming that they will send it to your paypal address.

I've ordered from a number of these sites recently and I thought I should post my experiences with them.

Playasia-Very good, sales, tons of coupons out there and preorder bonuses.

NCSX-Good, they have some harder to find games, but apparently not many copies, of the last 4 games I bought from them 3 were the very last copy and the other sold out less then a week later. Maybe not good for preorder, in their daily update it seems like they hardly ever get enough preorder bonuses for everyone, but I always get them from Playasia. Also check Playasia before buying anything, they are usually much cheaper. Also I ordered a game from NCSX and found it on Playasia a couple days later for about $30 cheaper. I emailed NCSX so I could get an RMA number to return it so I could get it cheaper at Playasia and never received any response.

Sorry for multiple posts, but I'm posting from my PS3 and there's a character limit or something.

Yesasia-Ships in 7-14 days means it actually ships in 7-14 days, as opposed to some companies where ships in 7-14 days means "Ha, good luck". They won't let you cancel video game orders though, and I've never had to return anything, but their returns policy on the site makes it seem like if you got a game and it didn't work you still couldn't return it.

Himeyashop-Good service, shipping is kind of expensive though.

Japanvideogames-I ordered a game listed as being in stock from them. A couple of days later I got an email my order had shipped. A couple of days later I got another email that the game was out of stock and they'd have to try and track it down. Not cool. Normally if they told me they didn't have a game I'd just shrug it off, except they told me they'd already shipped it which was basically a lie. I ordered another game from them and they didn't have it in stock either, but they sent it about a week later.

Gamechoiceclub-Ordered a game from them listed as being in stock, it wasn't. Tried to switch to a different game, didn't have that one either. Got my money back.

First, to the mods - I'm assuming its okay to point out translation patch sites because we have so many threads that contain pointer data to such mod/patches and it passes the Rule 1.1 check, eh? These aren't "warez" or "cracks", just game playing aids for the language-challenged.

Shuffle! *had* a translation project going (since 2005 off and on). Unfortunately, the primary member keeps vanishing for long periods (6 months plus at a time) and he has all the file work. Right now, the project appears to be in deep limbo. Visit the Patch thread in the Shuffle! subforum to find out more.

There's a site called Mirrormoon.org that provides english translations for some visual novels.

Best bet is to simply google the name of the series and "english patch"
(e.g. "Utawarerumono english patch")

You might check out the websites Peach Princess or J-List for games that are officially translated if you just want to get a notion of these "visual novels" (hard for me to call them games). Some of them are quite good if little known.

And yes, its strongly encouraged for you to buy the games. However, they are ridiculously expensive for their ancient technology compared to what you get in an American or European game software package (I'd really like to see a visual novel done in real modern RPG style). The positive side of using what is basically 1980s game tech is that almost any piece of junk computer runs them.

I would just get it from Himeya, but the already high price+expensive shipping+custom taxes would bring the price up to almost $150, and I just don't have that kind of money. Try paletweb for the PC version. If not then get the Xbox version or PSP version, essentially they are the same game except they are on a console.

Is it safe with net trading? You can be hacked or something like that I'm told...

I see lots of people recommending playasia.
Q: what about custom taxes? how much is it usually?
is it possible to request playasia to ship as a gift to avoid custom taxes?

Anyone knows any local store in Vancouver or Seattle?

It would depend on the weight of the product that you've ordered actually but so far my orders(mostly Japanese games) aren't taxed at all which is great!:D

Most shops won't do that.

I was wondering if anyone has had troubles with orders from Himeya lately? I had a preorder with them and the game has been out for 5 days, didn't get any update about it, they won't reply to my emails and the live support is always off. Starting to get really annoyed now...

Hello, I have a question regarding Himeyashop and their "Shipping country list" as I'm from a country not listed there.
Have anyone from a not listed country tried ordering from them? I'd like to know if there's a chance at all. Frankly, I don't understand why that list is so small. I have no troubles ordering things from Amazon, Rightstuf, Jlist...

They do not ship to alot of countries because those countries are either highly susceptible to lost packages or charge import taxes on goods. This is to avoid any dilemmas they may have from ignorant customers who claim bad service and spread bad news about the shop when really they have no liability.

After reading all the posts, Play-Asia (http://www.play-asia.com) seems the best choice. I'm not sure if Amazon.co.jp (http://www.amazon.co.jp) would send you video games (there might be some regional restrictions).
Moreover, You shouldn't pay custom taxes if your order costs less than $50.

Amazon JP will not ship anything that's not books or CD/DVDs outside Japan.

Play-Asia is overall good for the low shipping you can choose from, but the pre-order bonus is usually non-existance.

Himeya will get the pre-order for you guaranteed, but they're expensive.

HMV will give discount to games usually and ship to you (via EMS) using the exact shipping (instead of overcharging it like Himeya), but your chance of getting the pre-order bonus is 50%.

I recently registered for Paletweb, up until now I've only used Shop Himiya but lately I've been thinking it's time to try someplace new and that has cheaper prices but while I wait for my funds to be transferred to my paypal account I have a some questions about them.

Are they reliable?

How quick is their shipping methods?

Not directly, no.

But using Tenso.com (https://www.tenso.com/en/) it is possible - and with any luck I'll have Atelier Rorona (PS3) in my hands Monday. I ordered it from Amazon JP and had it shipped to my Japanese shipping address from Tenso, which then forwarded it to me using EMS for 2290 yen, and that order also includes the last volume of Macross Frontier (so 2 BD discs).

I've ordered once from them before, and that went without a hitch. The only problem was that their shipping rates are weight based, so they're not so great if you want to order many heavy items (like manga). For a few light items (like one or two DVD/BD/games) they should be way cheaper than Amazon JP.

While I've only tried them with two Amazon JP orders so far, I would imagine you can use them with any Japanese shop or auction site. The only problem what may then remain is payment (in case the shop only accepts Japanese credit cards). That's not an issue with Amazon JP of course.

PS. For orders above 2000 yen Amazon JP has free shipping, so you only pay Tenso for shipping.

Most, if not all, shipping from Japan to the rest of the world are weight-based. >_>

I would try that shop and all, but the middleman fee can get pretty expensive.

PS: Could've used HMV for the game + DVD combo and you wouldn't have to pay any middleman fee for that. (A DS game and a PSP game costed me a total EMS shipping (http://www.post.japanpost.jp/english/fee/intel/ems.html) of 1200 yen to North America.)
