This episode officially ends the school life period. Next episode will be about the True After story.
For now, I was prepared for the fast pace, and it wasn't as fast and jumpy as I expected. I really liked the mood and real change of situation for Nagisa, quite a very sharp contrast compared to her self barely a year ago.
It certainly gives nice mood for the whole family/friendship aspect, though it is quite frustrating for the dango girl ~~
and... moe dango hug!

I just watched the raw of episode 9 and I can’t wait to watch it with subs!! This episode was so wonderful, especially if you are a Nagisa x Tomoya fan (like myself). :)
I will have my box of kleenexs ready just in case. :upset:
Damn KyoAni for making me cry at parts I'm not supposed to cry for.
and so, there was the advent of the first dango

I also could not wait for the subs (despite the speed sub is out within 24 hours). I also need to prepare a box of tissue next to me when I see this in subs T^T
And the animation is back to top notch again, so that's all good.
I have to admit, I'm getting bored of Clannad's OST, a couple of pieces plays too frequently, and they're losing their effect on the mood.
Except that the piano piece duing the last scene when Nagisa looked at Tomoya one last time with his school uniform on was lovely.

It all begins here, finally.
That is all.
Edit - Actually I haven't seen it yet, but the episode 8 preview pretty much says that the school arcs are officially over.

And the last of the School Life scenes pass us by. Koumura's was a given, but Botan's soft-toy scene? LOL
This ep proves that Kyoani has everything under control, even if they used a little more creative inspiration than previous times. Though they are going REALLY fast from the looks of the preview.
Also, for all the people in the know, Sad Ryou in the OP seems to be a red herring. Like Kyou's in OP1. They sure get the short end of the stick.
And finally, Dango. That is all.

Damn. This episode left me speechless.
...... To think December 24 Christmas Eve, Nagisa's Birthday.
Now everyone is going and she's alone. Good thing Tomoyo and Yukine is still there.
And the last scene is priceless. I need to make it my sig.

now i get it, the mms streaming problem was never anything wrong on my end. its probably just flood/traffic from too many users... how the hell did i not figure that one out... *:bash:@myself*.
oh well, guess i'll just have to connect earlier next time. anyway, finally got around to watchig the raw.
at least kyou got to throw her killer dictionary one last time before they graduate:D
the botan plush toy act just too funny, had to watch it again:D
i think i've said this before, but anyway, i wonder how kindergarten teaching is gonna work out for kyou:heh: home time will be like...
-father: so, how was your first day of school son?
-son: great, it was lots of fun!
-father: that's good to hear, how's your homeroom teacher?
-son: TSUNDERE DA!!!:D

i usually go for the more tsundere types girls
and i still think kyou is hot as hell
but clannad is the only show where i have been so completely taken with a girl like nagisa (shy weak but adorable) from litteraly the first ep
and this ep has once more remainded me why that is

After watching...
Not exactly a very exciting episode. It wasn't meant to be, either. But it had ABSOLUTELY no effect on me. The OST feel a little overused by now.
The last of the School Life scenes pass us by. We now await the second half of the series.

Dango Mk. I makes his first appearance.
I was afraid the story might suddenly venture into some of Kyou's stuff again when the Botan Doll scene came up. This is because, much as I like Kyou and Ryou, the way the story has developed, there is just no room to accommodate them anymore. Though take nothing away from how funny Tomoya looked with Botan Doll in the classroom. (It's actually even funnier in the game when Botan farted and everyone thought it was Tomoya instead. )
The same can be said for Kotomi. There really wasn't any room to accommodate her at all in the other routes inside the game, so Kyo-Ani's done an excellent job extending her stay till this far even after her character and backstory have now been completely developed. Having her remain any longer would be meaningless. So, just like how they "retired" Fuuko (at least for now, it seems), now was the right time for her to gracefully make her exit.
As the School Life arc wraps itself nicely (they even managed to make room for Koumura's very brief sequence), Tomoya now enters the world of the adults. Gone will be the innocence and carefree school life that he's used to living, awaiting him will be a colder and crueler world. But he will not be alone, and he will have friends and most importantly, family, to support him.
The true story of Clannad begins here. The true After Story.

Game-wise there really wasn't a lot of "friends" to support him even during the... toughest moment of his life. It would be interesting to see how KyotoAni would probably make his friends have a greater impact in their post-school life than the game did.
And yes, the real story begins here.

Touching episode. It almost made me tear up sometimes. They ended the school arc very well and even managed to put in Koumura's little arc.
After Story will now officially begin:)
I watched already only RAW version so I don't have to much talk about this.
First of all, I like moments when sunohara doing a photo to girls and going with them alone (especially he is near kyou ^^). All characters you can see there living their own lives, it's pretty good. Episode 9 presents that Sunohara isn't only a 'tomoya's shadow' and without him he is nothing. He is helpfull and he've got funny sentences with Kyou. Ohh... photo scene was so cute, when I saw them all, I almost cryed.
Don't know what actually Tomoya said - when he cryed, but that was touching without any translactions : ).
Now I have to wait for english sub. Like Deathscyther said, After Story already begin. I'm so happy, but a little bit worried, next step to end of epic history, clannad. : (
My english isn't very good, so sorry about that.

I was really pleased by this episode, and gave it a 10 due to the following reasons:
- First of all, this is exactly what I've always enjoyed in the Clannad anime - they manage to take different ingrediences from different parts of the game, focus on a specific part of the story, and the result is something emotionally delicate and brilliant, not least. Koumura, Botan doll, (birthday), everything seemed to fit, even if they were separate parts in the visual novel.
- Second, the characters were really themselves, and I'm seriously impressed by the consistency of KyoAni's work on this anime.
The only minor complaints I have, is on the ending song...personally, I don't think it really fits that much, especially at this point of the story. But it's no biggie, in the end.
After two arcs that I felt that they could have been way better, After Story get to the transition from the school life to the colder adult life. Was this transition done right? I think so.
From my casual point of view, this is a 8/10. One can only hope for improvement from now on.

Finally watched the episode.
Honestly... the first 10 minutes of the episode were so-so... but the last 10 minutes were... wow... just wow...
I'm honestly glad that they didn't fiddle around with the original material for Nagisa's circumstances of repeating a 3rd year. After all, it's part of the catalyst for both their maturations, especially as Tomoya looking at apartment prices which means that the most important segment of their lives in After Story will begin in episode 10...
The conversation between Tomoya and Nagisa at the end was gold. Thank you Key and Kyoto, my eyes are too swelled up and I have a LAN session in a few hours.
At the very least I can see that their friends are going to have a bigger presence in AS than the game had, which I think is a good thing, since AS gave a big "us against the world" vibe. Clannad is after all about human relationships, and it wouldn't be complete without friends.
Also, the bedroom scene with Tomoya holding Nagisa's hand while she's lying in bed is almost a foreshadowing of a future important scene. I don't know if that's intended but funny how I thought it was so similar. Of course the outcomes of both scenes are radically different, but I digress.
Word of warning though, it gets much more emotional and at times downright sad and cruel from here on out, well assuming they don't change things much. It's not gonna be all drama and tears all the way, but when it does it doesn't hold a candle to anything we've seen so far, so get tissues ready.
And now that this episode is over, I'm going to go BAW in the bathroom for a while before I leave. Don't want my friends to see me like this right now.:D

So...will Tomoya's strained relationship with his father remain unresolved, or will the AS arch try to touch on that as well? I'm asking because I was pretty frustrated at how absorbed and even emotionally involved (i.e. Yukine, Furuka, etc.) he got when dealing with other people's personal troubles, while his own issues have been pretty much "off-limits" to everybody, including Nagisa.

Really good I enjoyed it. Kyou breaking some wall was awesome! I wanted Botan to fart XD but I guess it would have ruined the mood. But +1 for mentioning his 7 skills! Comapared to her party with just Tomoya and her parents is sure nice for her ^-^ Only...
What the hell was with the part when they sing altogether! That part made that second half of her route for me..
Jesus >.< they just had to play "that song" on the piano there
*wipes tears away*
I'm almost scared to watch this show now, things are getting really sad. I can sure sympathize with Tomoya about wanting to graduate together with Nagisa but, even though it was harder emotionally, it was the right thing to do. BTW Love the dango plushie hug :).
Well, with this we can officially say that they skipped the Kyou arc(which everyone who played the game knew that they would). Here is hoping for an OVA
Anyway, as much as my love of Kyou's character goes(based off the game mostly) I have to say Clannad is the only anime where I don't hate certain characters. Infact, I like Nagisa, and I don't usually like the main heroines in dramas.
i'm glad to see the after story arc finally taking off, I intentionally didn't play it in the game so I would be able to see it rendered in anime form first, which looks to be really interesting right now.
Good episode.
Is it just me, or do other people notice that when they aren't skipping/editing Kyou scenes(like the Botan scene today), they put her in a position where she looks to be a more important character than what her role is in the anime?

That's because she does have an important part to play, just not in the School Life phase and not as Tomoya's girlfriend. ;)

Gah, finally got to watch it.
I'm probably the only one who thinks such, but this was my favorite After Story episode by FAR. I felt like everything was missing something before, as much as I liked their arcs in game. They must be done and all, but wow, I cant wait to see how Kyo-Ani decides to animate the rest of the AS now. Aah, I'm too excited.
The whole last scene had me teary eyes. And I noticed that they changed the preview music to the Off Vocal version of Toki wo Kizamu Uta. It gives it such a sense of moving forward. As usual, that song is too great.
Aah, I must really stop fangirling this episode now. Glad to see my NagisaxTomya is back <3
10/10 for me.
Good ending to the school life story. Really loved the ending where Tomoya expresses his pain over graduating without Nagisa.
10/10 for this wonderful episode ;D
BTW I hope they change the ending song, it'll totally ruin the mood for me in the upcoming episodes.

Actually it is kind of cute to have Botan in this episode to lighten up the mood.
And Kyou still thinks that people are trying to have her piglet for dinner.
And Ryou is so....Tsukasa-like. A complete airhead.:D
The episode was really beautiful. I felt it was very moving near the end with Tomoya and Nagisha. I haven't played the After Story of the game yet so I thought the 2nd season was only going to be 13 episodes but its going to be 25/26 episodes so I guess the after story has a lot of materials :D. 10/10 Definitely from me.
That's because she does have an important part to play, just not in the School Life phase and not as Tomoya's girlfriend. ;)
That is certainly good to know. I was secretly hoping she would have some noteworthy role in it.

The irony here, of course, is the fact that Ryou is an honor student and Tomoya's Class Rep.

Easily the best episode since the baseball episode and easily the most heartfelt episode to date. It's definitely better than Misae's arc, which should serve as a good comparison for my opinions.
I think the questions this particular episode raises as well as the portrayal as to what the characters are forced to go through were really well done. Some of the remarks that Nagisa's dad made were absolutely right on the mark, especially in the way he pinpoints Tomoya's mentality in the face of emotional hardship.
But yeah, the last few minutes of the episode were absolutely moving because of the genuine emotions that sort of gushed forth as Tomoya showed his vulnerability. It's a testament to how much he's come to appreciate Nagisa after all this time and you can't ask for a better delivery than that.

I like this episode a lot; many scenes are the kind which warm your heart. Love is a precious thing.
I find it strange that others can cry through this episode (reference to crying in earlier posts); I find this episode to be very uplifting even with Nagisa ending up like this.
Also, the birthday present is absolutely perfect. Absolutely perfect.
Good episode. And they showed here even Koumura. Official ending for School Part is very good.
9 out of 10 : Excellent.

Finally watched the episode.
Honestly... the first 10 minutes of the episode were so-so... but the last 10 minutes were... wow... just wow...
Yes, this is what I thought. After Story has been inconsistent to this stage to say the least, but this episode was great, and was easily the best ep to date. It was meaningful and filled with genuine emotion, particularly towards the end of the episode, which is what defined the best moments from the first season of Clannad. And the events really said a lot about the way Nagisa affects Tomoya, and how far he's come compared to the indifferent, almost self-loathing person he was at the beginning of the story. I think this show is at its best when it's about characters rather than about things happening to characters. Arguably the most dramatic things happened to Nagisa, but the episode focused less on Nagisa and more on how what happened to her impacted Tomoya.
I do have some nitpicks (as I said last week, when I nitpick, I say so), and I thought that there was an overuse of music, particularly in the first half of the ep. There were a few scenes here and there that could have been more affecting with an absence of music.
Hopefully After Story will have more episodes like this, and less episodes like the up-and-down stuff we've seen so far, which had a stronger "stitched together" feeling than even Kanon. (Although Kanon can get away with it because the individual story arcs were so good).

If they don't change anything, it's going to be more like this episode from here on out. From here it's going to be about the characters in their transition from teenagers to young adults, the trials of growing into adulthood and evetually... being parents...
For most gamers, at least for me, it was conceded that the low point of season 2 was goign to be the school arcs that weren't finished in season 1. Now that After Story proper has started, it going to be a character driven show once again.

I'm gonna be really quick about what I thought of this episode:
Best episode of the season, almost the same level of perfection as Kanon. If they can make the rest of the series this good, then this series will at the very least end up being number 2 on my top-10-list. A 10/10 is totally apropriate for this episode, because I can't think of anything I didn't like about it.
Funny, I thought episode 9 was the highlight of season 1 too, and I'm pretty sure Kanon episode 9 was also where I first decided that I was watching something truly amazing. Seems like there is some sort of rule saying that "Episode 9 will always be much better than the 8 episodes preceeding it."
Definately worth the wait. They started all the key developments I wanted to see in this, and all of the things that I knew were going to get heart wrenching later on.
Now is to see if Kyoani can pull off the monumental task of showing the actual after story or not. Because with 1 slip up, the entire series will suffer, as opposed to like Kanon where a slip up could be shed as a botched route.
And they're shafting Kotomi! At least, in a very logical way. I personally am happy that they are doing this, and not trying to keep everyone together until the end of the story.
I did not like Kyou saying that she was going to go out to be a kindergarten teacher for reasons I'm not allowed to say in here. It ruined some of the "stab".
And they put koumura's route in. Yay!

Hear, hear. I can't say it any better. The last 10 minutes just about encapsulate everything I love about Clannad. Finally... the episode for which I waited an entire term. 十分滿分!!
I concur with the general consensus here about the ending song. Even Dango Daikazoku would have been more appropriate. I wonder whether they'll use Chiisana Te no Hira as the ending song for the final episode? I can't imagine the story ending with any other song (except maybe Dango Daikazoku, which shares half of its tune).

God man, it's getting hard to watch this show. I dunno if I wanna go on knowing it's downhill from here. :(
why do I have the nagging feeling that Nagisa is going to die? :( but it was a good episode. it seems that from here on out there's going to be less humor and more plot/development, which is fine both ways for me
This was one very moving episode. I've teared up. Yes, I shed manly tears in the end.
Somehow, I also feel that Nagisa's condition isn't going to get better.

NOOOO!!!
Am I going to have to go through all those hard goodbyes in May?
This show makes being a senior in HS feel like the saddest thing ever.
Anyways, I give this episode the usual Key 10+. Episodes only get 10+ from me when I am brought to tears for more than 5 minutes. It is really sad to see Tomoya graduate and leave Nagisa behind in school.
I would put more, but my nose is bleeding.
BTW. What disease does Nagisa have?

It's never specifically stated. Judging from the symptoms, I'd think she has a chronic hepatitis.

Such a beatiful episode. After Story impressing me more, more… Especially art/animation all after story had great animation/art. But this episode is above top notch. Probably After Story will continue with great animation/art to the end of after story. Very high budget anime.:D

Yeah, it's hard to diagnose, really, because the only symptons she ever seems to show are chronic pyrexia (fever), fatigue, possibly anaemia.
It could be anything from chronic heptatitis to chronic infection to "pyrexia of unknown origin" (hehe, at least that's what it seems to be for the audience!). And yes, there are people who simply fall ill with a fever without any discernable cause and remain weak and tired for months on end. What's irking is that we are never told - at least not in the anime - whether or not doctors actually know what is wrong with Nagisa.

Very good episode. Great to know that te main theme begins now but somehow I feel pain when I know that they have left school.
But I can't wait to see Kyou as the kindergarden teacher.

Ugh Nagisa's illness was one of the few things I just had to go along with XD. It seemed so unrealistic to just fall ill for no reason at specific times... but Clannad's so great I went along with it no problem.
Good episode. And they showed here even Koumura.
Yeah it reminds me a chapter of Honey and Clover. This episode is excellent and very touching. I feel sad when their school life ended, it's kind of nostalgic.

Episode 9 article is up:
[RIUVA] CLANNAD ~After Story~, Episode 9 (http://www.riuva.com/?p=1321)
Their School Life together may be at an end, but the After Story of our beloved couple is just beginning. The detour of the first 8 episodes into the side arcs of the CLANNAD canon may have been decent in themselves, but count me in as another one of those who's glad to have the main draw of TomoyaXNagisa back. 9/10.

That's kinda funny because there is still that enormous supernatural portion, the Illusionary World.
And considering the development of this "parallel story", you will soon notice it will have a huge impact.

Episode 9
-This episode started with the girl and robot of the illusionary world building a flying device. I wonder if the device will work, when it comes time to use it. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi34-1.gif
-Tomoya, Tomoya, don’t try to change the subject about your future using presents; Nagisa won’t fall for it, use going out on a date instead. ;) :heehee:
-Nagisa getting embarrassed after realizing what she said about giving a present to Tomoya everyday was so cute!!!http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi00.gif
-“Please complain to that to mom and dad” loved that line!! :heh:
- So it’s bye-bye to Kotomi-chan!!! :( I won’t miss her playing her weapon violin, but I will miss her very much. :upset:
-Poor Ryou, but in Botan’s defense, she (Botan) has a pretty good reason for not liking Ryou. :heh:
-Botan pretending to be a doll was so cute and funny at the same time. :heehee:
-Tomoya and Nagisa holding hands in her room during Tomoya’s test break was so sweet. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi00.gif
-Tomoya worrying about Nagisa to the point of losing weight was so touching. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi04.gif
-Sunohara as Santa was hilarious! :D So he is going back to his hometown. I was hoping he would stay in Tokyo rather than going back to his hometown. So I guess this means bye-bye Sunohara too. :upset:
-Tomoya… that was the best present you could have given Nagisa! :) A b-day party with her friends and a dango squishy pillow!!!
-Koumura was a great teacher indeed, too bad he’s not going to be there for Nagisa next year. :( But I’m glad that Tomoyo and Yukine are going to be Nagisa’s classmates next year. :) At least, Nagisa won’t be all alone, like in the beginning of the series.
-Tomoya thinking about Nagisa while he walked back home after the graduation ceremony was so sweet!! Loved all those Nagisa moments!!http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi01.gif
-Tomoya and Nagisa’s conversation in the end of this ep was so touching. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi04.gif I loved every single one of the moments of said conversationhttp://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi01.gif, Nagisa wanting to see Tomoya in his uniform one last time, Tomoya crying and explaining how Nagisa changed his school life for the better, Nagisa explaining to Tomoya that is O.K. to move on and that in fact, that’s what she wants for him to do (which it shows just how stronger Nagisa has become since the first episode of Clannad, so much in fact, that now is her whom gives encouragement and strength to Tomoya), and last but not least, Nagisa and Tomoya walking together holding hands. No wonder Nagisa x Tomoya is my OTP in the whole anime world; I love this pairing so much!!!http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi9b.gif
-BTW, is it me or Nagisa looked extra pretty in this ep? :)
-I didn’t use my box of klennex during this ep, I don’t know if it was because I watched the raw before watching this ep with subs, I don’t know why, but it wasn’t as emotional as I was expecting this episode to be. So that’s why I have decided that I’ll be strong and I won’t watch the raw of ep. 10 next week.
I can’t wait to watch episode 10!!!

Ascaloth's comment on his ep9 summary made me LOL...
She’s really intending to be a kindergarten teacher? Someday, a kid she was in charge of will one day grow up to be a mangaka, and be inspired to draw a manga series titled "My Tsundere Kindergarten Teacher" which will be wildly popular with otaku all around the world.:D
i wonder why there hasn't been such a series yet:confused:, "my tsundere teacher"... i'm sure it'll be popular.
she'll probably enforce a new school rule/law where "ALL dictionaries must be hardback":heh: and homeroom session invloves "the art of throwing"

I gave this episode a 10 because it was surprisingly good. Even though the episode didn't seem as dramatic and tear jerking as the other episodes did. It implied a lot of happiness and love into the episode. Well basically all the other episodes are like this, but seeing Nagisa and Okazaki actually advance in their relationship is probably what made this episode seem so much better.
The next episode seems like it will be similar to this episode. Seeing Okazaki trying to decide what to do from now on, and seeing Nagisa alone in the drama club room where a lot of people would come together, but now its only her. I'm probably ready to give next week a 10 or a 9 already

one thing for sure, it could never kill sonohara :D
Well, we all know Sunohara has such ungodly CON that it takes him rolling a 1 to be laid low by the Nightmare Combo. :D
I gave this episode a 10 out of 10 for multiple reasons, and because I like "hearing myself talk" I'll list them in detail:
The quality of the episode was above-par from beginning to end. There were so many times when I expected the story to drop the ball, but it just kept going. It wasn't that there were a myriad of "moments" in the episode, but that the entire episode itself was just special.
The music was astounding. I'm not sure if anyone else was taking notice, but near the end, there were multiple instrumentals that played in the background for a good while. I heard tunes reminiscent of many of the songs throughout Clannad's existence, all blended together and built upon. I'm not saying that background music makes or breaks a show, but in this case it moved me to throw myself into the episode.
The very last scene, despite it's predictability, was executed wonderfully and was a fitting climax to the sentiments created throughout the rest of the episode, and it left me in a very emotional state. I believe that this is so primarily because we were taken alongside Tomoya's own emotional journey, and the episode did a splendid job of making sure that we felt every bit of depression, anguish, regret, and eventual joy that the characters experienced.
In short, this episode was great, not because of any one moment or effect, but because the entire thing was executed spectacularly.

Given the art style the studio often uses, it would look pretty awkward, so I'd be happy with the long-distance or angled shots of kissing.

About Nagisa illness.
Its some sort of a genetic defect, not a disease.
By most definitions of "disease", I would argue that it encompasses genetic disorders, including autoimmune and immunodeficient conditions. I agree Nagisa doesn't have an infectious disease.
I think I'm going to stop watching Clannad all together. Yes the show telling is quite amazing.. but it's so just real. I watch anime to escape reality... not to get whacked by the harshest of realities out there... :(
To each his own :heh: I'm exactly the opposite, loving Clannad for its portrayal of romance against harsh reality (ditto for Honey and Clover). Compared to the sort of stuff I like to watch, my own life and future are a lot brighter!
First of all, this thread is filled with spoilers. Jeez.
Wow I hated this episode... but in a good way. I think I'm going to stop watching Clannad all together. Yes the show telling is quite amazing.. but it's so just real. Not to belittle you or anything, but posts like these make me :eyebrow:. If you think Clannad, or any of the Key stories for that matter, represent reality then wow.
As for the episode, I enjoyed it. 8/10. But man, quality episodes like this only make me angrier at Clannad. I had such high hopes after Kanon and the show just doesn't measure up. It seems like every few weeks I read these threads about how emotional the episode was. Then I watch the episode and the drama is usually unwarranted. I'm not expecting Shakespeare, but at least have the punch that the Kanon arcs had. I just can't get emotional over the fact that Nagisa has to repeat a year or, from season 1, that *shock* her parents had to cut back on their "dream" jobs because they had a child and needed to take responsibility. With each passing arc in Clannad it just feels like drama for the sake of drama. Sorry for the mini-rant as it encompasses Clannad as a whole and not just this episode, but the "emotional impact" this episode supposedly had just reminded me.
Also, although I didn't think it was possible, the chemistry, or lack thereof, between Tomoya and Nagisa make Yuichi and Ayu look like Romeo and Juliet. Knowing where the Clannad story started and where it will end, I was always interested in how the relationship would develop and whether or not it would be deep or realistic. Suffice it to say, it hasn't been. It's actually pretty sad that there was more chemistry between Tomoya and Mei on their little date than there has been between Tomoya and Nagisa. It would have been nice if KyoAni used this part of the series to throw in some development between the two even if it wasn't in the game. Instead, we get a baseball episode that lasts the entire episode and here we get half of an episode which blows throw the months like nothing. :| Oh well, another anime with another unrealistic and unbelievable relationship.
Despite my problems with the source material, KyoAni is really good at working with what they have. As I said, I though the whole Tomoya crying and wanting to stay back a year with Nagisa was just drama for the sake of drama (And quite immature at that. That's almost something you expect to hear out of a 10 year old who is about to be separated from his best friend, not someone like Tomoya who is practically an adult), however, with the music use and the scene montage use, KyoAni still makes you feel like the situation should have some weight to it. I'm also glad Nagisa finally had a mature scene. Telling Tomoya that he needed to move on was actually realistic and Nagisa came off as fairly intelligent. And fairly intelligent is a far cry from the usual Key girl who is basically a big eyed doll with the IQ of a brick (There are a couple of exceptions, like Kaori from Kanon).
Finally, on a bright note, the moving on of the story should mean more maturity and less played out jokes. I mean, do we really need Sunohara toilt seat, Kyou dictionary, Kotomi violin, etc... every couple of episodes? Most of that stopped being funny midway through season 1.
Glad the good stuff is FINALLY coming up though. It just sucks that it has taken this long. I'm not sure if I'll ever re-watch the series or recommend it to a friend. It's hard to say, "Hey, watch Clannad, it has a really great emotional story, you just have to sit through about 30 episodes before it starts!". I really hope the inevitable Little Busters adaptation delivers. Otherwise, Key was a one-hit wonder in my eyes.

Gah, just what I was about to say.
10 from me too.

Indeed, that is something that has been annoying me. The amount of so-called "foreshadowing" in this thread is borderline spolerific. If we want to predict or wonder about what is to come we use the spoiler and speculation thread. (even when the episode itself does the foreshadowing, there is no need and to shout to everyone, "hey, this is foreshadowing, pay attention to it".) I am also a little guilty of that in past threads, so it also goes to me, but let's keep the amount of that to a minimum people.

It's better than the Taiwanese news channels which announced all the deaths and marriages in Harry Potter book 7 the night it was released :heh:
Oh, and the girl in the Illusionary World... is she an ectotherm? Wouldn't endotherns (warm blooded animals) usually respond to the cold by shivering and trying to increase metabolism to keep warm, not by becoming slow and sluggish?

lol thats worse than the guy in a car who blurted out the ending of one of the more important characters to the whole line of ppl still waiting in line to buy a copy.
ep 9 was really good for nagisaxtomoya development. it sucks that she's prone to such sickness but it does get him to show his true feelings. lol ryou "tried" to cook her pet boar and its terrified of her :heh:. botan sure does have an interesting trick up his sleeve.
Hi everyone!. I'm new here :D.
I would like to say about ep9 was very good, but all happend so fast, I thought Nagisa was going to die or somthing first when Okazaki said she was at the hostpital. But thanks god she didn't!! :)
So, its finally getting on to After Story. I thought that the show was ending because I thought Clannad was already in After Story part from the beginning ^^; (didn't play the game obviously. Had to make sure again that this was 24 episdoe season...)
Either way, it was a very quick transition, and I felt it was done really well. Only complaint I have is, as others pointed out, the overusage of same sound tracks. Mind you, it is very good, but it is certainly getting old, and I hope Kyoani realizes that.
Though I'm not a big Nagisa fan, I hope she gets better soon.

That is all.
Edit - Actually I haven't seen it yet, but the episode 8 preview pretty much says that the school arcs are officially over.

About the soundtrack... I liked the piano piece in the last 5 minutes; it was something different. Maybe After Story (i.e. the real After Story) will have new BGM to represent a new period in life? Were there new BGM pieces for After Story in the game?
First episode from me to get a 9/10, most of the rest got an 8/10. Its mostly a transitory episode, but there are some very touching moments and I laughed for a good few minutes at the pig's doll trick. The episode also foreshadows at some potent drama up ahead, and it looks promising.

Trying to figure out the bodily functions of an inhabitant of a Transitive Plane attached to Haruhi knows how many other parallel realities (and who says you don't learn anything from the Manual of the Planes and Planescape)? Good luck with that. :)
Yeah, it's hard to diagnose, really, because the only symptons she ever seems to show are chronic pyrexia (fever), fatigue, possibly anaemia.

Damn you KyoAni for making me cry just after a good thanksgiving. Very emotional episodes as i thought it would be. The timing passing by as Nagisa laid home sick in bed made reality even more well....real. But now the real After Story is beginning as they head out into the real world and move on to be young adults and say good bye to their carefree teenage life. Im going to miss Kotomi who is pretty much favorite girl as she departs to study in America.
All the scenes with Nagisa and Tomyoa were very emotional and touching especially the last scene of them walking and holding hands. Having to repeat again is a heart breaker but Tomoyo is there so thats at least something maybe she wont feel totally alone. I dont get the vibes that Nagisa is going to die i tend to be optimistic about these sort of things plus i just cant take another depressing anime at the moment.
Excellent episode KyoAni is really showing up their stuff and looks like they have full control.

That's the big problem with the names in Key's works. One letter differences.
Kyou/Ryou (ok, they're twins, can't be helped)
Tomoya/Tomoyo (now that's one BIG problem)
Akio/Akiko (ok, this is a little too far, but Key really needs to do something on this)
The names on Japanese use completely different Kanji's for each one homophone, so the problem is only on our side.

And you expect everybody to know Kanji? I know what you mean, like I can read Kanji too, but the others? That's our fault, I know, but maybe we could give them some nicknames.
Like Tomo-pyon for Tomoyo, for instance, that would help.
And Jammu for Akiko.

You can call them by nicks, if that makes it easier for you, and some may follow suit, who knows, it might work.

I find it easier, less ambiguous, less confusing and much more logical simply to refer to the characters by their full names (or family name when only a single member of that family is a major character, e.g. Sakagami for Sakagami Tomoyo).
Even if someone confuses Tomoya and Tomoyo, "Sakagami Tomoya" obviously refers to "Sakagami Tomoyo". Then and again, I might be more accustomed to calling people by their full names since we do that more often in Chinese than in any other language I can think of!
(* Well, Anglophones seem to use first names and forget surnames; the Japanese are too polite to refer to "higher-ranking" people by full name; Chinese surnames, meanwhile, are monosyllabic so it doesn't take too much effort to incorporate them into casual speech. Despite the greater "complexity" of English surnames, I seem to be much better at remembering them, perhaps out of habit, than my British classmates.)

Just a little detail for what you posted, yukino: using "full name" in japanese is not really polite at all. It is completely the other way. Be it with honorific or not, using full name can be seen quite offending, as if you were considered as an object or "only by name" instead of a person.
Well, not sure which is the worst: that or last name without any honorific (just like how blunt Tomoyo is).
well that's said, let's stick the topic to its original purpose shall we? It is fine if you are even debating problems with names in this series, but starting to discuss about random matter related to language in Singapore isn't exactly "on topic"...

To quote myself...
"Japanese are too polite to refer to 'higher-ranking' people by full name", which implies that full name is somewhat rude since it's not what polite people do... if you catch my drift. On the other hand, we Chinese have no such qualms.
Klashikari

That's exactly how I understood, but I added such details to expand the said statement, in case some would think "full name" is just less "polite" and last name alone (which is often a big mistake, compared to western culture), while it is truely something to avoid.

That's weird, because I love Nagisa right from the start and she has been the same lol. Probably because she was never annoying for me.
Same here. I thought Fuko was the most annoying. Then in After Story, I realised that Kyou was EVEN more annoying. (If you watched ep 10, you'd know)

Hmmm... I was reading the episode 10 thread and I noticed a lot of people were against the other girls making appearances now that Nagisa's after story is starting.
Personally, I'm relieved KyoAni decided not to just abandon the rest of the cast in favor of Nagisa; I don't see how their appearances take away from Nagisa's after story in anyway. I'm actually quite interested in seeing how creative KyoAni can get allowing the other girls to show up while staying faithful to the game (I never played Nagisa's after story)!
