Well, the games section is pretty new...it was added only within the past week...so there wouldn't be too many threads talking about it...
as for myself...i can't dance...i have no rythmn...so playing DDR is out of the question :p
Thats partly because the games forum is fairly new. It was just created the other day.
I have noticed that there is a huge DDR craze, i don't really see whats so great about it, but iv never played it so i have no place to argue.
I'm not too bad from a casual standpoint ... passing most single 8 footers and a bunch of single 9s. For double, I can do up to 6.
Although from a competitive standpoint, I suck because I can't do a sustained perfect attack too well. I usually have a 75/25 perfect/great ratio.
Have I passed any Oni courses? Nah (but I've come close on Naoki Standard). Have I passed any of the Max songs on Heavy? Nah.
Meh, I don't see why people hype DDR over the rest of the Bemani games so much. I personally like BeatMania better, hee hee.
i admit i suck, but i have met more people who have goten over 300 perfect on end of the century than i have colecting and owning 30 love hina graphic novels(its bad enogh i know one)

DDR was really big 2 years ago, but I've noticed that people are starting to lose intrest. Kids still play it non-stop though. I like watching them dump 10 bucks into a ddr machine and go at it. Have you seen what the new thing that they are coming out with ? Karaoke Revolution. Thats right Karaoke..... If this goes into the arcades it will be the FUNNIEST thing that I've ever seen. Specially the part where you laugh your ass off at the people who cant sing :heh: .
I firmly place those blasted 20 pounds on that DDR machine.
As silly as it may be, I continue to play that game, easily burning $20/wk, but it does seem to work ;)

Oh really?! o_O' That might be funny indeed! :heh:
I'd like to try it ^^;
I used to like playing DDR alot, I used to be able to do 5-6 foot songs(Trick), but one day my dog bit up the cable to my home dance pad I just stopped playing and I never did play at golfland too much so I just stopped. I did buy another dance pad, but for some reason I just don't feel like playing much anymore. Here are the DDR games I got(there all for PS1):
Dance Dance Revolution (first one, english)
Dance Dance Revolution 3rd Mix (japanese)
Dance Dance Revolution 4th Mix (japanese)

It's nice to have a DDR at home. You can practice whenever you want. Even if the arcade is better, its still nice. My cousin has DDR Ultramix on the Xbox but he still didn't buy the dance pad. When he will, his house is gonna be a paradise for me :)
Personally, the fun part of DDR is creating new moves :)
from what i saw, everyone who has replyed here likes DDR more or less, but what do you feel about para para dancing,(if youve hered of it)its made from the same company.
StarCreator

Urgh...
Para para is NOT a Konami invention - it's an attempt to hop on to a popular form of dance in Japan at the time. Unfortunately for Konami, they released Para Para Paradise (Para Para Dancing in Korea) as the dance was phasing out - the game performed dismally in sales, and only barely made it to a 2nd incarnation (which was not only graphically inferior, it was also never released as a home version).
Since it was targetted to the para para mainstream, the game lacks any kind of difficulty. I was easily passing the most difficult sequences within hours of the first play. And even then, I could have just flailed my arms randomly to pass it, the machine couldn't have cared less about the timing. The sensors are inaccurate to the point that there is no technical value to the game, and the game quite simply gets old fast.
so right, but the real scary part abot it is not that its easy, but some people who acctualy get into the game (unbelivably more like it)look, for lack of a better word, queer

I LOVE DDR!! I remember watching everyone at Otakon playing when everyone was stuck in this little small room. I loved it so much that I bought the 1st English release and the pads. Afterwards I also purchased the rest of the American releases as well as the Japanese versions that ranged from the 2nd mix to the 5th mix. I'm still saving up money to get a converter to acquire the last 3 Japanese versions.
i understand that i may have made some people angry, but when i saw someone who was REALY into it,they looked a little odd.then again,i think it may hae been the same person i saw cosplaying as a maid at a convention.(no offence ment to anyone.i forgot to add this note on my last post and i appologise)

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION
SELECT STILE... VERSUS MODE!
SELECT DIFICULTY... HEA... HEAVY MODE!!
SELECT MUSIC... Iy iy iy ya i'm your little butterfly.... (first song on the list in party collection)
This is my first reply on the Anime Suki forums since 2 months ago or so. Why? DDR is the main reason. I just got one of those metal pads and DDR Extereme and Party colection and well i basicly spend 3 hours a day playing them. This cut down my internet time and that is why i don't post here much anymore. Any ways back on track, i just noticed this new option (games) and thought that i would check if there was a DDR thread and here it is!! Well, I just have to say DDR is the best thing that has every hapened to me. Not only is it fun, I lost 26 pounds in the last month just off DDR. Eat your heart out Atkins (or whatever that new diet is called)!!!
I am not great, but i am not abysmal either. However for a person that has just been playing for a month and two weeks, i guess i could say that i am good. I can do 8 footers no problem, 9 footers i get a B if everything goes normaly and as for Max songs, i can get a b on Max300 on Standard (score wise around 61).
As for other bemani games, i really am looking forward to playing Pop n' Music. I really like the soundtrack, though i have never played it. I did hear that there is a Pop n' Music machine in the Pacific Mall arcade so i am probably going to go this march break. Anyways, i better get going because this reply is cutting in to my DDR time!

I am (or perhaps was) an avid DDR fan....
I even wrote a FAQ on it. I am the author of the DDR "How to play double" FAQ you may have read on ddrfreak or gamefaqs.
Double Faq (http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/dance_dance_revolution_double.txt)
Actually, writing that thing has earned me quite a bit of totally random email. Also when I moved to the west coast, I overheard some people talking about it at an arcade. When I told them I wrote it, they were quite amazed!
Well, I haven't played as much recently, but I still got it (I just the other day beat nearly 130 oni mode again, after a pretty long hiatus).

Lame. Some people just memorize every step in the book, then they feel they look cool that way.
They should try my style: Shuffle mode. Requires true skill. I even got applause when I was in Canada, that was a nice memory.
But no one cares anymore, DDR isn't popular anymore in my home country.

Well at least your friend picked a good song to do that to, my friend played Dream a Dream liike 9 times in a row last time we had a DDR party!! Though that time we played ddr for 12 hours straight (with food breaks in the middle), from 6:00 PM till 6:00 AM. It was crazy. We felt like total shite the next day. I love to aslo teach people about DDR. U see, there are many people who dont like ddr, because they get made fun of when they dance for the frist time. It's more amusing to do all the fun attributes if you don't have the thing memorized. Hidden is fun while trying to memorize on the fly, hehe. Even if I have steps partially memorized though, it would still be fun to try out all the freeform stuff you can do with the steps :)

what about Pump-It Up (a korean varient of DDR)? I was initially a DDR player, but while I was waiting for DDR Exterme to come out, I got bored of it and was drawn to Pump-It Up. I personally like Pump-It Up more than DDR becuase of the higher amount of possible foot combinations and the forced turning that Pump-It Up makes you do... but thats just my opinion?

one strange thing is... i found animesuki through my DDR hobby. The ddr sim community started to use bittorrent to distribute files, and while looking around for other uses for bittorrent, i found this site
i can do (pass) about all 8 footers, some 9 footers, and one 10 footer (does sakura count?) :D
and also, i think the best pads for DDR are the beat-gear pads. They're more arcade authentic than the flat coblat flux. The problem is, about 30+ people order the $400 dollar pads, and only 3 of them shipped, and its been 2 and a half years since they ordered.
i'm getting quite off topic.. aren't I?

Have you tried out Bag? A friend of mine showed it to me one time and I was like WTF?! There must be 32nd notes in that, and at like 68 bpm or something :) And all those bag pipers in the background make you feel the same as when the dog laughs at you in Duck Hunt.

Yes, bag uses 1/32 notes, and scrolls at 65bpm if I recall correctly. It's the 3rd lowest BPM to appear to date, I believe.
bluemist
2004-03-20, 22:47
How about the highest BPM you've ever seen?
Dunno if it's from the original arcade (I play through the StepMania PC DDR game), but this song called MAX. (MAX Period) by 2MB really is crazy! It shifts from 300bpm to 600bpm near the end!!!!!
Can people physically dance that fast? I already thought Drop Out (260bpm) was already killer fast enough, but ever since MAX 300 came out the speed is now physically impossible for me (I can't finish Heavy/Maniac mode of that song).
StarCreator
2004-03-21, 04:35
MAX. (period) is from DDR Extreme CS (the Japanese PS2 release). When you unlock Legend of Max as a regular song, it replaces it as the default Extra Stage. It is also, in my opinion, the most retarded shit KCET has ever come up with. The 600bpm segment is just dumb and pointless. (If I recall correctly, it consists of one step every 2/4 beat, so it's actually not making you step faster than the rest of the song - just making you read faster.)
PARANOiA -Respect- is a LOT better as far as flashing-10 CS exclusive songs go. The steps aren't repetetively dumbassed, and actually follow some interesting and unique patterns. It doesn't have completely pointless tempo changes, either.

I'm more or less the same way. Except my soul got eaten by BM/IIDX and Pop'n Music. DDR was fun while it lasted, but I find myself playing it less and less.
If only the Pop'n ASCs didn't cost several body parts, I'd have one right now. Pop'n 9 has COLOURS! <3
StarCreator
2004-03-23, 03:18
There are a couple of homemade ASC equivalents for pop'n, that I hear are pretty close to the Konami ASC. (Haven't tried one myself since I already own the Konami ASC...) You'd have to go to the bemanistyle.com pop'n music forum to get more information on those, though.

I played A LOT of DDR last year... not so much this year cuz the machine at the local arcade eats tokens like no other. (and at $.75 a play T_T) I believe that sometime near the end of last summer break I brought myself to a B on MAX 300 Heavy on my home pad... which was when I decided that I would get no better at the game. It took me at least 2 weeks of training on that song to get me through, and many blisters as well.
There are still people at my school that a crazy good at DDR... I don't even compare.

I know full well I could download every commercial song in existance. But why would I when I already own all the import versions and can play them in their native game engines?
(Not to mention this is crossing the fine line into blatant piracy.)
Not to mention I have to adjust the gap on damn near every stepfile I get. I hate how the gap value can vary wildly depending on PC setup.

Ever since the DDR home versions migrated from PS1 to PS2 (I can't buy a PS2), I got left out. And so anything beyond 5th Mix is so alien to me. No upgrades on the arcades either until very recently (Yay for DDR Extreme arcade at only 20 cents per play!).
And so I resort to those DDR simulators. I have some original soundtracks for some mixes, and so I ripped them to mp3, searched long and hard for the equivalent stepfiles for those songs, and configured it to play in the simulators. Guess what? ALL THE DARN SONGS ARE OUT OF TUNE! I had to manually edit/adjust each of the songs to time it correctly. Frustrating.

G2 was written by Aya (and I absolutely hate playing it on L7. 16th notes at 170bpm = one dead right wrist).
And besides, not ALL of the fanwritten step charts suck, you just have to look around and stick with the good writers, like Skorpion, Reivaj, etc etc. Most of the stuff posted on BemaniStyle/Sims (and from MJ/Udderdude), just utterly blew.
I like it. But I`m really crap at it. A friend of mine is muuuuuch better.

I've been playing DDR for just over 2 years. I can pass any song in the arcade except for LoM and PSMO. I'll probably pass LoM next time I go there.

Now don't say that! There's always my sister. She must really suck at it by now. She hasn't played for abot 2 years or possibly more.
How good is your sister by the way?
Compared to others, my sister is average. What's the next level after beginner? Intermmediate? Her level of skill is around there. But still, I'm tired of losing. Tell your sister I'd like a DDR match with her. Maybe I can actually win for once if she hasn't had any practice lately.
And which DDR game is the best in everyone's opinion? My sister bought practically all of them for the Sony Playstation and we often have a tough time picking out which version to play.

Even though I have been forced to take a break from DDR because I'm in the army for now, I still play it whenever I have the chance... About 10 e / 2 weeks. 1 e per game :/
Because of my break, I haven't advanced much in the latest half year - though I'm able to do most 8-footers and some 9-footers (Paranoia KCET (Well... That's not hard enough to be a 9-footer :D), Dead End, Exotic Ethnic.)
And we only have Euromix 2 here in Finland -_-;; I'd like Extreme...
bluemist: Yes, it is physically possible to complete Max 300 - and it's even not that hard... I've seen people do it, and I could do it myself, probably - but I fail since I run out of stamina :/ Well, I have to jog some more...

Tell your sister I'd like a DDR match with her. Maybe I can actually win for once if she hasn't had any practice lately.
And which DDR game is the best in everyone's opinion?
Okay! I'll ask her and you come over to PA, Phila. We'll meet near the yellow enterance of the Franklin Mills mall, then we will see who has more not-so-mad skillz! She'll probably just admit defeat before you verse each other and sleep on the couch at home but before that she will say to me, "What is it, smelly?".
Extreme is the best overall (but I only played 2 versions so I'm not one to say what's the greatest DDR game or the greatest thing since sliced bread. mmmmm..... bread.)
The only thing PARANOiA KCET (Clean mix) has is about 483 steps overall, and only about 35-50 of them are hard to hit. The other ones are easy, and Witch Doctor should be a 9 foot!

Alright! I've seen myself do it already (well... almost). I just recently passed the 'standard' mode of all those dreaded MAX and new Paranoia songs... it's a matter of time before I can do 'heavy'. I'll just be careful so as not to fall off the dance pad!
For me, the best DDR arcade is Extreme, because inside the machine is a LOT of songs from other mixes and even some songs from other Bemani games.
But the best DDR Mix is 3rd Mix. It has the coolest mix of songs and the start of the era of the 9-footers, stamina-crunching stuff I might say.

Extreme (Arcade) not only has a lot of songs from other mixes... It has ALL the songs from other mixes... So basicly there is no posible way that any other versions would be better as they would always have less songs.
I'm just curious... anyone here able to do 8-10 footers on double? I love Cowgirl on Doubles, it is soooo fun to alternate between the pads.
Doubles suck because only the rich can play it. If it was the same price as single I wouldn't mind ...
Then again, since Pump It Up has double play for $1 it's superior >_>

Where are you? There's a joint premium machine (second credit free!!!) in Waterloo.
Besides, when you're (really) good, you're paying $2 for a lot of time... like 8 to 12 minutes on a Double Oni.
Oh, and CardCaptorMoody, yes there is. (Working on Max300 Double Heavy. Passes Paranoia Survivor Double Heavy consistently)

Yeah, doubles are fun. I rarely ever play singles, if at all.
MAX300 double heavy isn't really that hard at all - I don't see why you'd have trouble with it if you can do PS double heavy.
Extreme does NOT have all songs existant - there's a lot of songs from the pre-MAX era that are missing from the arcade machine, especially licenses. There hasn't been an every-song-so-far mix since 4th Plus...

It's just that stupid sequence at the beginning on the mid/right side that wipes me out. If I'm lucky enough to survive it I finish the song.
Then again most of my double play is in the easy onis, Naoki Standard, Be 4 You. Break Down is still evil though. :D

It is my observation that 'doubles draws the bigger crowds', and it even doesn't matter whether the song is hard or not... Doubles is simply more fun to watch.
And since there is no more 'DDR Otakudom' in my part of the world, the thing that draws crowds is NOT the coolest and hardest songs, but how big the combo count a player has. Heck, I danced through Standard songs nicely and it drew lots more people than my 'epileptic' dancing of MAX songs...

Never mention that horrid name ever again. Just thinking what you just posted is punishable by death in Moodyland. If you live in Etobicoke or any where close to mississauga you should go to Erin Mills Center. Big mall with a clock tower thing. In the arcade they have a "Mega Mix" Machine. It is basicly a bootleg version of Extreme. Though the quality of the machine does not differ from a Extreme machine (it has all the same songes and everything.. the only difference is the menues)... though the price does. It has joint premium... so if you are there with your friends you can play for 50 cents... or just the full dollar for a doubles game (do it!) all you need to do is put in $1 then press the button for BOTH sides as if you had put in $2.
StarCreator and lavalyn... impressive... I'm not that good a doubles because i only play at the arcades once a month or so :(. But i play every day on my metal pad at home :heh:

Here in my country it's weird. We have a mall where DDR 6th Mix is darn popular, and yet kilometers away there is another mall where the DDR Extreme machine is only collecting dust...
Darn, I'm loving The Legend of MAX right now. Not the ridiculous Heavy steps, I meant the music.

Yes, it's possible, but extremely difficult. The scary thing is thatt's not even the hardest song according to players. People think PARANOiA Survivor Max on Oni is the hardest song. During this time I will quote what one person said about it:
Konami shouldn't have given it a flashing 10, but a skull and crossbones for the foot rating.
Note: This is including all 4 Max songs on heavy.

What's the new DDR version there? According to the Konami websites their latest arcade version is still DDR Extreme. It's a two-year old arcade game already.
But I guess it's still popular considering what you said...
It would be very fascinating to see someone finish those crazy 10-footer songs in the MAX and Paranoia series. The other 10-footers (Sakura and bag) were actually quite easy compared to the others. I can finish Sakura and bag.

Ayway.....
I don't plan on buying DDR Extreme for the US version. I'm still rather pissed off about what they did to MAX 2. Just from that game alone I had 2 new songs in my top 5 most hated DDR songs list. I hate KCEA/KCEH. They will be the death of DDR in America.
I'm planning to play DDR at Seasiide Highs in New Jersey near late July/early August. This will be heads up that I'll be gone for a week at the beginning of August. If my sister doesn't come I might just increase my skills to be able to beat PARANOiA Survivor, Sakua, and MAX 300 this summer alone.
As for hardest song, I can't decide:
Sakura (Oni)
Orion .78 (Civilization Mix) (Heavy)
Trip Machiine Climax (Heavy)
Captain Jack (Grandale Remix) (Heavy)
The Legend of MAX (Standard)
This is oly a small list narrowed down to these 5, of course I did the 2nd through 4th ones one 2 speed. I van't stand seeing a song going at the normal speed.

you all sound so good. Any body have any advice so i caN go from standard to heavy :D
I'll try to give advice:
1. Learn how to do skipping steps. They're like jumps but make one foot slightly higher that the other (at least 2 centimeters.)
2. If you can't see the arrows on slow songs, you could always increase the speed by holding down the button you select the song with.
3. Solo colored steps will make the steps more visible but not easier or harder, just brighter.
4. Don't panic on long chains. Just flow with the rhythm.
5. Be quick on your reflexes. Fast songs are no walk in the park. You have to move fast, but not too quickly. You'll miss steps and maybe fail the song.
6. Dry your feet/shoes and the pad. This is one of the reasons why some great players fail because the surface is too slippery.
7. Don't jump on every step. It will tire you out. Just use one foot and tap it lightly, but with enough force for you to get it. Stomping slows you down and tires you out.
8. When going to a regular step to a jump separated with an 1/8th arrow, don't stress out. Just try to get there on time with the rhythm.
9. Asking other pros is always a great idea. They can give you some pointers and when they play look at their feet and see how the do the steps.
10. Never, and I mean never play DDr after have a carbonated drink! (ie. Soda) It hurts your stomach and tires you out, and the aftermath after doing it on a fast song is like being kicked in the pit of your stomach.
11. Bring a water bottle. No DDR player should play while dehydrated. It lowers your stamina.
12. After you played DDR for a while and had beaten your first 6 and 7 footers, you should play wiht a pro because they might do harder songs around 7 footer heavys or standard 7 footers. Do the 7 footers and perhaps an 8 at the end and you'll soon be a heavy player. (Hey, it worked for me ^_~) If you're lucky like me, by the next week you could beat your first 9 footer.
I'm sure other people can give you more tips. These are good tips for someone starting standard/heavy.
Hey- those sound like great tips- I'm in the same boat as that other poster- I'll give some of that stuff a try

It's basically a difficulty rating. The higher the foot number, the harder the song. You can actually see the number of foots in the song selection screen, somewhere at the bottom left. This also goes in conjunction in the Beginner, Light, Standard, and Heavy modes. The higher the mode, and the higher the foot number, the harder the song. I hope I explained it well though.
MAXX Unlimited on Standard is an 8-footer song.
MAXX Unlimited on Heavy is a 10-footer song.
My favorite song is Rhythm and Police(Heavy)
and..jumpa to my beat shoes

Also, you talk about doing songs at different speeds- do you mean difficulty levels here, or is there some way to change the actual speed of a song so that it sounds like the chipmunks?

There are about 8 mixes in the arcade. Basically MAX1 is the 6th Mix while MAX2 is the 7th Mix.
About the songs mentioned by Razer_2mb:
Sakura (Oni) - It's on DDR Extreme (8th Mix)
Orion .78 (Civilization Mix) (Heavy) - It's on MAX1 arcade, but in the home versions I think it's on 5th Mix (PSX).
Trip Machiine Climax (Heavy) - Maybe on 4th Mix
Captain Jack (Grandale Remix) (Heavy) - It's on 3rd Mix
The Legend of MAX (Standard) - It's on DDR Extreme (8th Mix)
About the speeds, this is an option that only makes the arrows scroll faster on the screen. No change is made on the speed of the song.

Anyway if we're celebrating about beating songs I just beaten Sakura on heavy with a "B" and I have photographic proof. I'll never make fun of disposible cameras again. No only if I could get through to last 20 seconds of PARANOiA Survivor I would be on easy street.
That reminds me! Ignore my top 5 hardest earlier in this thread. It updated to:
1. Sakura (Heavy)
2. Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) (Heavy)
3. Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix) (Heavy)
4. So Deep (Perfect Sphere Mix) (Heavy)
5. Xenon (Heavy)
Dispite Xenon being on my top 5 list, it's actually fairly easy in some ways.
For the DDR home games I can no longer pity XBox, but instead curse it for not sucking unlike the the US home of Extreme will. If you thought it couldn't get worse than MAX2 in the US, you might be wrong.

Sakura actually originated from Beatmania IIDX. It's also one of the only songs in Beatmania history that originated from Naoki and not from DDR to Beatmania. The movie in the background in the sog is also from Beatmania, the game where every song got it's own background.
Orion.78 Civilization mix was also in the Home version of MAX. It was one of the only song in the game that had no freeze arrows like Healing Vision AM[b], [b]Let the Beat Hit 'em (Classic R and B style), and On the Jazz.
Trip Machine Climax was also in the home version of Max. It was the only Trip Machine in the game.
Captain Jack (Grandale Mix) has no other information that I know of accept it's a mix of the original Captain Jack which was probably longer.
The Legend of Max is yet another continuation of the MAX series. ZZ is also Naoki, along with Omega and Z, but NOT 2MB despite fairly popular belief. Just because Naoki made the other Max songs and 2MB made MAX. (Period) doesn't mean thery are the same guy. 2MB is actually U1.
Just a little history added in for each song.

Darn, I never even thought of photographing my historic moment. I got a C on MAX 300 Heavy btw. Yup, lame but at least I passed it.
Also, for me Sakura on Heavy is a bit easier than MAX 300. I also get B grades there.
The main problem with me is always 'stamina'. MAX 300 has continual 1/8 steps which wear my feet down too quickly, while Sakura's 1/8 steps are quite far in between and not lasting too long.
I'm NEVER gonna even remotely touch Paranoia Survivor MAX on Heavy.
My top 5 hardest songs that I have beaten:
1. MAX 300 (Heavy)
2. Sakura (Heavy)
3. Healing Vision (Angelic Mix) (Heavy)
4. Exotic Ethnic (Heavy)
5. Orion .78 (Civilization Mix) (Heavy)
Hm, Sakura on Heavy is labeled as a ten footer and makes people shy away from it, but it should be a 9-foot. Good 9-foot songs to practice to get better and raise your stamina for those long runs in many harder songs are (All on Heavy):
Can't Stop Fallin' In Love(Speed Mix)
Rhythm and Police
Sakura (Getting used to the speed helps.)
PARANOiA Rebirth
Few others but I can't think of them right now.
My top 5 "hardest" songs (All on Heavy, been playing for 2 years or so now):
Legend of MAX (B)
MAXx Unlimited (B)
MAX 300 (A)
PARANOiA Survivor (A)
Exotic Ethnic (AA)
Those are my hardest, but I don't play them all the time. My favorite run of songs has to be:
Witch Doctor (Heavy)
Dance Dance Revolution (Heavy)
Rhythm and Police/Can't Stop Fallin' In Love(Speed Mix)
Extra stage:
Miracle Moon :P
My advice for new players is to stick with it, learn the basics, watch other people play, don't worry about failing or messing up, and just stick with it.

PARANOiA Survivor (A)
Exotic Ethnic (AA)
I don't understand why a lot of people think Exotic Ethnic is as hard as hell anyway. Sure it's hard, but it's not as hard as most 9 footers that I've passed.
Also if you think these songs are hard, then you should see some of the stepmania expert steps. The can go up to 16 feet.
Those are my hardest, but I don't play them all the time. My favorite run of songs has to be:

Okay, Witch Doctor deserses to be a 9 footer in my opinion and that's much harder than Exotic Ethnic. At least that song doesn't nearly make me wish my legs were broken.
Now back tp the point of my post.
It is proven that by editing any song, you can not only make it on beat perfectly, but a 10 footer, even the slowest and easiest of songs. I should know because I have.
Razer_2mb's class on how to make a song a 10 footer:
1. The easiest ones to make hard are the ones with extremely quick vocals and with a fast tempo background. These kinds of elements are a perfect excuse to make a long string of 1/16 arrows.
2. Lots of synth music is also good. This could be best applied to perchaps Frozen Ray (For EXTREME). Three steps conne connected by 1/16 arrows, then do it again on the next 1/4 arrow. To earn bonus points feel free to add more 16 arrows near the end until the freeze arrows come near the song is over, then just make the rest jumps.
3. Freeze can be a very evil weapon in fast song and places where there should be skipping steps. Just try it out and see what I mean.
4. Who says you should start editing steps on the 3rd or 4th line? Do it on the first line where you can put steps and go from there to the end.
5.Go nuts with skips as long as it fits (ie. Dark Black Forest, My Generation, Days Go By, etc.) This alone is evil enough to get you that 10 footer status with these 3 easy songs.
6.Mix up the steps to the point of leg entanglement. Make a lot of turning steps.
7. Add a jump after a 1/16 arrow. Hey, they do it in the song Dance Dance Revolution on Oni but vice versa.
8.Make a line of having to press the same step on a fast song and make sure the line is like 2 or 3 bars long. If it makes your foot tired then you suceeded.
9. Be creative. After all it's your edit and no one can tell you what to do. You make it as damn hard as you wish.
That's all you have to do to make an ultra hard edit song of doom. If you actually pass with an A ir higher, then you messed up or you amde it one of those easy 10 footers like Sakura or possible what is considered the easiest 10 footer ever, Outer Limits.

Some people over the internet really go WILD on their edit data, it's really not funny anymore. I encounter lots of them back when I still played Stepmania on PC (I just stopped playing now because I broke my gamepad, hehe). Not only are some songs/edits physically impossible on a dance pad, they are so darn hard even when playing on a gamepad.
It's like they completely left out the fun-factor of having a perfect challenge steps 'just right for the song', in favor of endless button mashing with steps that doesn't even tune right with the song.
They really are annoying, because I spend my hard-earned 56K bandwidth just to find out that my downloaded stepmania song is crap. But as Razer_2mb's lesson #10 says, nobody can dictate what one should do. Thankfully some people understand my plea and churn out pretty nice stuff. Not so impossible, but not so easy either. Just right for the challenge.
Out of the possible 1700 simfiles that I may have downloaded, I only put up 1200 on my backup.
I actually made a stepmania simfile of my own back then! Well the song is "Egao ga Ichiban! Yappari ne", a lesser known image song from Sister Princess, and I modeled the steps as an 8-footer. It's quite fun actually, at 167bpm, and actually goes down to 83 at the slow melody part. If anyone's interested to get it (nah), just say so ok? But it's plain mp3 and dwi though, no banner pictures yet.

I myself have never seen the insane death steps, but I heard they were exremely clunky on the steps, some having over 1000 steps total. However people could do that is way beyond me. I however don't go nuts on making death steps anymore because I learned something that those people would never learn:
rhythm
My later songs actually went along with the beat, especially the slower songs.

I keep on forgetting you can add in songs not from DDR and edit the steps yourself, but everything else happens to be up to you for BPM and seps for each difficulty. I would ask for it but Stepmania hates us so my brother foughht back by deleting it. If I learn to get it up again I might download the stepmania program and ask for it quickly and judge the stats on what it deserves. I'm not so picky as other people might be. As long as it flows I'm okay.
From what I saw my brother do to load up songs on the Stepmania program I think it might be too hard for me to do something like that unless I read the instuctions in and out.
i used to get all these anime stepfiles from bemanisim before they went under (became crap)
the newer version os stepmania fix a LOT of bugs
My post was on a real machine, not on my computer playing stupid spammy edit songs with my keyboard. Don't get me wrong, I play my fair share of Steapmania but having a song over 11 feet with 2 minutes of straight idiotic 32nd runs is just plain retarded
I put Exotic Ethnic up there because it is a decently hard cata and I AAd it.
Also if you think these songs are hard, then you should see some of the stepmania expert steps. The can go up to 16 feet.
Do those songs exist on a real machine? No, so they don't count, and shouldn't be compared to things people can do on foot.
Okay, Witch Doctor deserses to be a 9 footer in my opinion and that's much harder than Exotic Ethnic. At least that song doesn't nearly make me wish my legs were broken.
Witch Doctor should be 9 feet, but 90% of players have more trouble turning than doing 16th triplets in 8th runs.
Hey all
DDR and Stepmania rule! I can do most 10 foots on the keypad and most 8-9 foots on the dance pad ^^ Though Im not to good compared to that of some of my friends.
Just wondering if anyone can pm some links, where I can get some DDR and or Stepmania songs/mixs as for pc I only have a few off the DDR anime mixs and a few of the DDR video game mixs.
Soo if anyone knows where I can get more e.g off BT, ed2k, ftp, websites etc gimme a pm :D
I just played DDR recently at Famous Players when we went to see Paparazzi, then the next day I played it again at ym local arcade it was SO ADDICTIVE! Before you know it I bought both games for PS2 and the metal pads lol. Cant wait until I get them in 2 weeks. Also DDRExtreme is suppose to come out for PS2 ^^ So happy.
---NEXT DAY
I was looking for some cool dance videos... and I came across this:

Haha- welcome to the world of DDR. Same thing happened to me. I tried it out on a friend's pad and went out the next day to buy the games and pad. I still suck (have trouble with 8-footers and up), but I'm slowly getting better.
You bought a metal pad!......lucky! (or not, since you paid for it)

ive been playing ddr for about 1 and a half years now...and im still stuck on standard. i have ddr at my house with hard mats but they are like not responsive at all. i wasted my money :( ...i play at the movie theatre at the arcade, but my friend usually does heavy and i do standard because thats all i can do. when i try heavy i can do it for a little bit but then i just like get confused and embarass myself and usually mess up my friend :) ... i swear ive been stuck on standard for like my whole ddr life because i started on standard. how long did it take u pros to get good? i want to get good and show off. i seem to have a aptitude for pump though...SPACE FANTASY!!! or somethin... i just play it when i go to dave and busters on the east coast. hahaah im the only one whos actually good at that game over there. lol people probably think im a dork when they see me play... :uhoh:
anywayz can anyone help me out on how to move onto heavy?
So I've been reading about the new DDR coming out tomorrow and it's supposed to feature the Eye Toy. Does anybody else think this is a really bad idea. I mean, I'd rather they spend their time on getting a bigger, better songlist and making sure the steps match up well to the music. I don't get why they made this move when they know the biggest audience for a game like this is the veteran audience. Any thoughts?

I'll agree on it being a bad idea. I want to dance dance!, not wipe things off of the screen or catch coconuts or whatever you do with the eye toy. I guess I just dont see the appeal.

I can answer this question with a little dramatization of why they did this:
KCEA: Oh, snap. We've put in 70 songs and were almost out of money, plus we have all this memory left. I don't want to read a barrage of hate letters. What do we do? WHAT DO WE DO?!?!?!
Some guy: How about using that crappy Eye Toy feature that nobody buys? We could use that to take up the rest of the game space. They should be damn grateful that the song list isn't as fucked up as MAX2.
KCEA: That's a great idea! Gentleman, prepare the Eye Toy feature for DDR. This is now going to be A Para Para Paridise home version to. Who cares if we have almost 40 less song than the Japanese version? We put in most of the good ones!
.....and so the DDR Eye Toy feature was born.
Anyway here are some songs I'm looking forward to in the US DDR Extreme that's out now (Bolded ones are those I am extremely excited about):
Default New songs:
1. Firefly
2. Jet World
3. Kick the Can
4. MOBO*MOGA
5. PARANOiA Enternal
6. The Reflex
7. Y.M.C.A.
Default old songs:
1. .59
2. Drop Out
3. Tsugaru
New songs:
1. 321 STARS

10. V (For Exreme)

Gamefaqs FAQ for DDR Extreme (http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/dance_dance_revolution_extreme_na.txt)
The whole songlist for the US Extreme. Will it suck to be you? Find out!
Well- I just got extreme, and I've beaten 52 of the 72 songs on standard now (I know, I'm starting out easy/slow- I'll move up to heavy soon). Initially, I was dissappointed at the low number of songs- not very extreme at all. However, the song list is VERY solid. There are far fewer annoying songs than Max 2 or Max 1 had. There are a few bombs (such as the HORRIBLE like a virgin cover)- but most everything is really solid, and the Enter the Dragon theme and Neverending Story theme were really nice additions. I can honestly say I'll be playing this one for a LONG time not because it has a terribly long songlist, but because most all of the songs are fun!!!
yeah, and screw that eye toy bs- it has gotten very luke-warm reception from all the reviewers

NEW MIX COMING OUT FOR THE US AND UK!
Because of the popularity in the US, DDR is having a new arcade game made for it called DDR Supernova. So far, here are the new songs announced (from DDR UK):
Innocence Of Silence
Fly Away
Mur Mur Twins
Ska Ska no. 3
Centaur
No. 13
Moon
Konoko No Nanatsu no owaini
Xepher
Red Zone
Nijiiro
Mugen
Happy * Angel
Dragon Blade
Curus
What A Wonderful World
Toxic
A Love Like This
iFUTURELIST (DDR Version)
DoLL
Fascination Maxx (AA Last song)
Thoughts on some of the songs:
Murmur Twins is a song that appeared in beatmania IIDX 8th style and it is one of the only songs that sounds different for each difficulty level in IIDX. The song is written by yu_tokiwa.djw and the genre is Cuddly Core. Despite this genre name, it's an extremely hard song in IIDX. The version they'll be using in the game is the OST version (AKA: 7 Key), and the speed is 174 BPM. This can easily be one of the hardest songs in the game if it's not made for n00bs or edited.
And, of course, something thhat could be a 12 or 13 is made a 7. Eventhough the steps are being made by someone other than Konami, they are still baby us around despite having 3 years to wait for a new Arcade mix. Fucking incredible.
No.13 is made by TAKA (respect for JSB). When it first appeared, people always bitched about how hard is was, and I don't blame them. It is debated by many the hardest song that appeared in 10th style (either that or One More Lovely). This classical remix is kind of like V, but on crack. If they make this as hard as possible, it would surpass ITG's Pandemonium easily.
Moon is made by dj TAKA feat. Erika Mochizuki. First appeared in pop'n music 13 Carnival, which is the newest AC out at the moment. I don't like this song that much, and would much prefer Des-ROW Gummi Special Z's Sun/Beam anyday of the week. Hell, if it were up to me, the only pop'n music 13 song would be fffff. Best pop'n song ever made.
Xepher by tatsh was a huge shock to me, and now I am even more excited about Supernova. Once again, if they have stopped babying us around, this song will be hellish on heavy/challange. It first appeared in IIDX 12th style Happy Sky.
Red Zone is by Tatsh & NAOKI. Let me shorten the for you: "Speed Rave!" There. You now know 15 seconds worth of lyrics.
Happy * Angel is most likely the song from Happy Sky by jun with TAHIRIH. Oh goodie. More J-Pop. Just what he didn't need.
Curus by D-Crew made its debut in pop'n music 12 Iroha. I'm a D-Crew fan, so what I would say about the song would be bias. Eitherway, to me it means lots o' stream.
Toxic by Brittany Spears. If I ever hear this song in the Arcade, let's just say the pad will be very bloody. Everyody hates that talentless bitch, so if regulars see a n00b play the song, pray for that n00b, for he/she will be in a better place 2 minutes later.
Fascination Maxx is the newest song in the Max series. During test plays foe the song, only two people have evr heard the end of the song, but that was because they truned off the "fail-song" option". I fear what this song must be like.
Other:
1. They use the DDR EXtreme and Extreme 2 scoring system, the worst scoring system on God's fucking green earth (you have to FC a song to get a AA). That means even if you have all perfects, and if you get even one good, you get an A.
2. Some of the BG videos are the IIDX videos (as seen from a screenshot for the song DoLL).

Does anyone else play Stepmania with pads? I've got mine all hooked up so I can, and it is so much fun. Nightwish stepfiles FTW.
My pads suck, though. As do I. *tear*
EDIT: W00t, beat first 9 foot today!

Amazing 3 year bump here.
In other news, Konami very recently announced DDR Music Fit, the Japanese "version" of Hottest Party 3. It will feature many anime songs, including Blue Bird (Naruto Shippuuden), Meikyu Butterfly (Shugo Chara), MY BOY (Shugo Chara Doki), Sorairo Days (Guren Lagann), and Sousei no Aquarion.
Unfortuantely Blue Bird got a bastardized cover in GFDMV6 so it'll likely be that version. No word on artist for the other songs.

I didn't even see this in this forum. I checked first 5 pages and thought, well maybe there could be one way down at the bottom of last page of forum threads here. anyways, i posted something for DDR and they moved it to this thread which is weird because if it is 3 years old why not just leave the thread i made? who knows man. my guess is some of the mods are weird. anyways, I think its nice that they are including music from Shugo Chara in there. I love the show. i find it to be hilarious. anybody know of DDR that has some music from Chobits?

I can imagine some modifications of In The Groove 2 could include such songs. I played one to a Tetris song mix. Now, that was cool.

DDR is a addicting rhythm game and also I have it on my iPhone and it have the dance pad on the screen, but I find it difficult to use on the harder levels.
