View Full Version : Public anime/manga script database operational please contribute and take fansubbers
Hi everyone, A while back I anounced that I would have a public translation database up and running soon, well it took me longer than I expected however I can now proudly say, that it is up and running, I'am in the proccess of adding all of the anime/ manga scripts that My group and other groups have shared. Feel free to go their and check it for any current listings. From now on I will also be Anouncing weekly on animesuki(as long as xris, nosennin, ghdpro and other mods don't object) a update of new anime and manga scripts available for download from our database( Note I will only limit all updates to one thread that will be updated weekly). I have already recieved a couple scripts from a few different groups and I ask that other fansubbing groups on animesuki contribute as well since this database is free to use by all for no charge, or donations required(note you can still donate if yah want though :) .) For the moment I won't list licensed scripts cause they violate the animesuki rule against sharing licensed works. If you would like to view the database you can go to www.animechi.com (http://www.animechi.com/) and click on Achi Database located on the navigation bar otherwise simple click this direct link to get to the database note to add scripts you must register for a free account:

I don't really see the point of suhc a database,
I hope it won't just create other fansub groups who use the same translation and release it like 2 months late.
It might help out groups who sub in other languages than english! if they don't have a jap-> their language trans.
I know some groups might be hesitant about doing this but please note that we require that anyone that takes a script add the groups name that it was taken from in their releases and if they don't do that and someone reports it (note my mods will be watching closely) we'll ban their IP's from their translation database and then report them as script thieves to animesuki.com, baka-updates, and www.envirosphere.com (http://www.envirosphere.com) ( however since we are reasonable we'll ofcourse contact them first and ask them to modify their releases, to reflect the groups script they are using). :)
No worries Fansubbers your work is covered.
Yep This will definetly help out alot of other groups that subb to other languages this way they won't have to translate twice.I don't really see the point of suhc a database,

So anyone can upload any script they want, as long as they credit the proper group -- even if that person isn't from the group who made the script, and said group doesn't want their scripts contributed at all? Are your "mods" going to be checking for these types of thieves as well?
Generally if somebody wants to use my scripts they come ask me.
I usually say yes, unless they're dumb about it. Why would I want to use this service?
well you give and you get, people contribute, and people take. By using this service your scripts will help lots more fansubbers and older series can benifit from todays video break throughs, I mean who wouldn't like to see a older series like urusei yatsura(yes I know its lisenced its just a example) redone in divx format, also most fansubbers toss out their old scripts, instead of doing that they can just pass them on and as time goes by older series will become revisted, more often. Generally if somebody wants to use my scripts they come ask me.

Umm yeah, Dude we are going chew up anyone that were to steal a script , of someon does this we'll find out cause we will check at every chance, and one does this and their career in the fansubbing bussiness will come to a end, we are in contact with many large torrent share trackers including suprnova, if someone does this we'll have their torrents shut down from the source immedietly and have their group blacklisted by animesuki,baka-updates and other large trackers, no worries I have a long list.:mad:So anyone can upload any script they want, as long as they credit the proper group -- even if that person isn't from the group who made the script, and said group doesn't want their scripts contributed at all? I did ask bakasan to contribute a few times as well who knows he might actually contribute sooner or later. Considering their about about 5 groups (no names) using his scripts as is now.
You know...maybe you should make website look better. Looking like that I promise you...not many will submit. Not many groups like to submit scripts anyway (we all know why) so good luck with that.
Theirs a new site on the way lol, I'am very busy preparing for midterms, shopping for and working out for my trip to jamaica in 3 weeks and My japanese studies are taking up alot of my time plus I do have a job so I think considering everything I'am doing right now, A new website would definetly take me while in all justification. You know...maybe you should make website look better. Umm yeah, Dude we are going chew up anyone that were to steal a scriptThe copyright isn't yours to give. It belongs to the people who made the anime, because translation is a derivative work.
So you can't "chew up" anyone.

If someone resorts to stealing scripts, they obviously don't have much of a "career in the fansubbing bussiness [sic]" to begin with (though I wasn't aware that being a fansubber was a career choice...selling fansubs, on the other hand, may be). Also, while it's impressive that you think that pulling a torrent off a bt listing site will inevitably lead to the group's demise, I find the notion unlikely. Even if you get their tracker to stop serving them, there's not really any way that you can stop them from making their own tracker.
(As an aside, I guess you could go to their ISP and have them take care of it, but since you're serving scripts to licensed anime in the hopes that people will "revisit" older series with newer video encoding processes, it seems far more likely that all it would take is one retaliation to get you shut down...and possibly sued into oblivion, if the wrong company takes notice. But that's your problem, and not really the point of this post.)
Not to be disparaging or anything, but exactly who are you? Why should torrent listing sites pay you any attention when you come to them out of the blue and accuse some random group of stealing scripts? If I'm going to send you scripts that my group has put hours of work into, I want to know that I can trust you to protect them the way you say you can.
Finally, as a comment on the project as a whole, why? By allowing licensed scripts, you're basically encouraging pirates. (This is obviously an America-centric comment -- I don't care.) This will only bring pain, and lots of it, down on you. Good luck with all that.
As for nonlicensed stuff, I don't honestly see a point outside of encouraging script thievery. What's someone supposed to do with these scripts, encode a brand new version with a new codec, give credit to the original group and rerelease? If a group wanted their work rereleased, they can do it themselves. If not, they won't contribute scripts. Simple as that.
Obviously there will be exceptions, and some people will contribute scripts anyway out of a misguided sense of something or other. But on the whole, the concept just seems flawed to me. And seriously, stay away from the licensed crap.
Edit: Oh, and if you're going to reply, please do so in one post. There's not really any reason to reply to each person individually when a single post will do, besides to artificially inflate your postcount. It's kind of annoying, seeing multiple posts by the same person in a row.
So um... ever hear of this site? www.scriptclub.org
I like the idea of script database, but your implementation is just poor (no offence). The idea behind script databases is so other groups (besides english groups) can release based on english scripts (I know there are a lot of things to think about). You need to lock scripts away from anonymous user and....oh well you should figure out this by yourself.
So um... ever hear of this site? www.scriptclub.org
Yeah, I'm surprised no one else mentioned this. Scriptclub has been archiving scripts in an organized manner for years now. This seems pretty redundant since the scriptclub database is already huge and well managed.

i could think of one good reason, if you like some groups subs or if you just wanted a sub but don't like the other groups encode and know/think you do better then you might want to do your own encodes and store them private, not for release or something. But i don't think so many groups will give out their subs anyway and it will only be abused.
Which would you rather use?
1) Script Club, which allows unlimited use of scripts, has a large database, and is easy to navigate.
2) Anime Chi, which threatens to "chew up" people who use scripts, has no files, and is impossible to navigate.

This would require you to have the SAME raw as the other group, which isn't easy if it's a popular show. Otherwise, you'd have to resync/retime everything and redo signs (if they exist). You might as well just copy down their subs line by line and time it yourself.

You forgot to mention that in 1-3 months he will grow too bored or become too busy to maintain the site and disappear; the site will become dysfunctional and shut down shortly after.
Going to all the different listing sites and telling them to remove a listing because it alledgedly uses a script is impossible on so many levels. Don't assume the listing sites have the time or the will to verify requests to remove listings, short of the title becoming licensed. Even if a site or two did listen and took the time to verify allegations a group could respond by rephrasing a few lines; and there is no legal grounds for anything since no one can claim copyright for a script (translated or not) to a work they don't own in the first place.

Thought I'd mention that Script Club does not have "unlimited use" of scripts, you have to respect the creator's requests _if_ they dont want it distributed outside the members of the site. That means no fansubbers stealing scripts if the owner of the script doesnt want them to.
I think Scriptclub's intention for the site is more for people who buy R2 dvds and want scripts to watch them with rather than a source for newb fansubbers with no translators.
BTW who the hell would upload their scripts to a fansub group (named animechi)?

He's already got 2 scripts up.
They're Trigun episodes 1 and 2. :nono:
Like I said all scripts are welcome, however I won't list the licensed scripts in the regular animechi script update thread lol. He's already got 2 scripts up.

Good thinking, nobody will find them if you don't list them in the update thread.

yeah and that makes you so much more credible. I don't think anyone should be listing anything they do with you
Hey I'am not doing anything wrong ok, the scripts will be filtered as we see fit.yeah and that makes you so much more credible. I don't think anyone should be listing anything they do with you
Hey I'am not doing anything wrong okThat's debatable. Is "stupid" included in your definition of "wrong"?
I won't argue with you, don't call me stupid, no need for disrepect in this thread. If you can't talk nicely then don't talk at all. I wasn't rude to you so be respectful to me.That's debatable. Is "stupid" included in your definition of "wrong"?

While calling YOU stupid is wrong. What you ARE doing is stupid. Listing scripts of liscensed stuff is stupid.
Well, if it's such a horrible idea why don't we just let ff7799 do it and realize this?
It's really up to him if it's successful or not.
If he actually does succeed good for him. If he fails he'll have learnt a valuable lesson. The best lessons are learnt from your failures.
Well I honestly don't mind the attitude you have, I mean if it works then yay for me and if it doesn't then I have learned something. Its all as simple as that.Well, if it's such a horrible idea why don't we just let ff7799 do it and realize this?

B'cos he's trying to involve others in the idiocy.
Ie. anyone who voluntarily places scripts on his site, or anyone he dislikes for whatever reason.
It's just another dumb 'power grab' scheme, in that if he dislike a group, he could transcribe scripts from their releases, put them on his site under another name, backdate them, and then accuse the group he dislike of 'stealing from his site' and try to cause enmity or get the groups releases pulled from listing sites. Maybe there's a delay of a few days between when scripts are uploaded and they appear on his site to make it look 'authentic'. Likewise anyone who does voluntarily put scripts on the site under false pretense (they will never be misused) is also being cheated. His schemes ultimately fail, but in the end he is just another schemer trying to grab for power or control of _something_ without any regard for others involved.
Dude My group is proffessional we wouldn't do something like that your just going too far with your conspiracy concepts.
*The big bad ff is going to blow my house down, come out little piggies, not by the hair of our chin chin chins, Garrr, I said let me in, no no, we will never let you in , bah humbug :)*

Proffessional (sic), so says the guy that can't spell it right.
You're not portraying yourself as a trustworthy repository there, with all these issues that you don't seem to have a good answer beyond "trust me."

this thread sure is fun! Keep on entertaining me like that please!
proffessional , that was fun !!
I am now deeply convinced such a database is really useless for groups! and for users! if you want a script you can deal with a group directly.
and a professional fansub group ?? could you make that more explicit ??
As I understand it, professional means that you make money for your work, like pro vs. amateur skaters...
Could FF be a bootlegger? No wonder he's after scripts!
Well there's more to the meaning of the word "professional" than the obvious link to the word "profession." It seems ff7799 meant it in the sense of being skilled at what he was doing, as opposed to doing it for money. Whether he IS or not is, of course, highly debatable. Word definitions aside, I'm not sure he's made a convincing argument for anyone storing their scripts with him. In the first place, scriptclub.org DOES exist. In the second place, someone run by me again what exactly prevents me from uploading a dubious script and then stealing someone else's valid scripts, altering them a bit and making my own fansubs? "ff7799 is gonna get me?" What a terrifying prospect! :heh:
