OK so I've seen all the GitS stuff, and I'm wondering if there are series that are similar too it in setting, story depth, character depth, immersion and believability.
Added points for good artwork and so on like GitS.
While i haven't seen it, from the previews I'm guessing Ergo Proxy would come close to what I'm aiming for?
(I think I might just be hankering for a 3rd GitS series heh :heh:)

How about Golgo 13 and/or Moonlight Mile.
Both are great story telling .
I also believe Monster fits the criteria you had laid.

Well, you can always watch Ergo Proxy, but I think it's different and lacking compared to the GitS series.
For similarity of topics like close future and cyber navigation connected to crimes or (a) world's future, I would choose Paprika (animated movie) and Real Drive (TV series). Kind of tempted to add Memories/Magnetic Rose as concurring worlds of reality and virtual memory and Serial Experiments: Lain for everything you might get of it.

The Patlabor series...considering that the original GitS movie was directed by the creator/director of the Patlabor series. I strongly suggest the Patlabor movies as well, since they were a huge influence on the first GitS movie and the SAC series.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep them coming.
I've been meaning to watch Monster in the past but kept forgetting too. The story sounded fairly interesting, and somewhat dark.
I've heard of Moonlight Mile before as well. It looked as though it would be kind of lighthearted but have a lot of character development.
Golgo 13 looks a lot like a James Bond-esque series. Will check this one out too.
Paprika.. I have a feeling I've seen this one already at some point. If my memory isn't playing up on me it was quite good too, if a little weird at points.
Real Drive looks like a definite goer to watch as well. It sounds like something close to what I'm hoping to get.
Magnetic Rose sounds like an interesting idea, but there wasn't a whole lot on ANN about it. The single sentence they did have describing the movie made it sound as though there was potentially a good story with some emotional discovery along the way.
Serial Experiments: Lain sounds like an interesting concept, similar too Real Drive looks like it would have a few Matrix-esque moments. Will check into this one too.
Patlabor had a strong influence on GitS:SAC series and movie eh, well I guess that will have to be added to my list as well!
Jin-Roh is good, more dystopian. Wait, its a movie however.

Real Drive was just okay for me; I liked Shirow's other 2008 show, Ghost Hound (http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1083.html), better. I'd also suggest Dennou Coil (http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1020.html), if you're looking for a plausible near-future sci-fi show with a good story and strong production values. Planetes also fits this category, but it's more of a slice-of-life show.

I will second Golgo 13 and Monster. Don't know what Moonlight Mile is.. To add to the list:
Baccano!
Black Lagoon
Blood+
City Hunter
Gantz
Gungrave
Gunslinger Girl
Hellsing
Night Head Genesis
Speed Grapher
Texhnolyze
Tokko
Trinity Blood
Out of this list, the only ones I watched are Baccano!, Black Lagoon, Blood+, Tokko, and Trinity Blood. They are pretty good!!

Hellsing and Trinity Blood aren't exactly what I had in mind when I said 'something like GitS', although both are good. Needs more Hellsing Ultimate #5. Being another vampire based show I'd guess that Blood+ would fall into the same category.
I've seen one or two episodes of Gunslinger Girl and it did look interesting, I've heard that S1 is vastly superior to S2 though. Black Lagoon sounds like it would be awesome, although it looks to be more action based.
Others on the list I haven't seen yet, so I'd have to go look them up on ANN before I could say anything about them. Gantz is a police based show is it not?
Thanks for the tips though.

Two of my favorites are Gallery Fake and Master Keaton which maybe interesting if you're into real drama type shows.
One is about an art dealer partly doing business in the black market and the other is an ex-SAS sargent working as an insurnance op, pursuing a passion in archeology.

Gantz isn't police-based. It is pretty violent and weird though. If you"re
thinking about watching it, be warned that the ending is a real letdown.
For something GITS-like, "Appleseed" might be a good pick, depending on
your tastes:
