Interesting.
On the basis of the raw, naturally, considering I didn't understand much dialogue...
I like how they drew on Maka's friendship with Crona so much for this. It was understandable, practically necessary when getting across Crona's predicament. Medusa is who she fears, and Maka is the first person to truly draw Crona out from that mad, violent little world of her witch mother.
True to form, Maka stormed off in an effort to find Crona regardless of what anyone else thought. Not that she'd have listened to Soul or Spirit anyway. Nice to see her determination brought out, considering it was partly what allowed her to meet Crona's soul wavelength in the first place.
Had been hoping Kid's investigation would get somewhere. It got us obsession and chaos, at least... -_-
Arachne facing Asura...I'm going to have to wait on some translation for this, because I wasn't sure what was going on. To start with, it looked as though Arachne was persisting in bargaining with Asura, only to be beaten up for her trouble. And yet, we later see Asura on a bed surrounded by what look like the masks of Arachnaphobia people?
The final scenes were something. To have Maka disagree with Spirit is old news (though I'd love to know why she was yelling at him right then), but Shinigami? Sounded like Maka was annoyed by what the god was saying.
And Medusa, surrounded by men in suits and confronted by Nygus? Ooh. This looks to be interesting. The manga puts it one way, Bones might do it another. *shrug*
I quite liked this episode, from what I could understand. Looked and sounded good, too.
i don't get the opening scene, was Arachne just succumbing to the kishin's madness?
Hmm.. So we have Kid poking his nose where it isn't supposed to be and what does he run into... Could it possibly be a cruel trap set by Shinigami?

Since can't use the manga to roughly understand an episode's dialogue anymore :heh:. Still do think Arachne was trying to convince Asura that they a common foe, maybe that he can trust her. Honestly not too sure other than she was trying to get him to join forces. Though talking to a paranoid source of insanity is pretty tough for anyone. She really got knocked around. Though apparently it worked getting him to at least be nearby.
On the Spirit and Maka thing I guess they were discussing how Spirit can't trust Chrona or forgive her breaking the promises that let her stay by running away. Maybe Maka saying he has no right to question Chrona when he broke his vows to her mother. Honestly not sure on the specifics but got that sort of sense out of the argument.
Now you have Medusa just walking in there. Well at least Kid can get that book he wanted now :D.
@R-Otaku - Or just comic relief for the otherwise serious episode. It's not the first time Kid's poked his nose in where it doesn't belong, and he finds plenty of distractions on his own, without his dad trying to sabotage his investigation.
@FlareKnight - Yeah, I figured Arachne wanted to convince Asura they had a common enemy. What I don't like about the idea is that it goes against what has previously been claimed about Asura; he's afraid of...everything. Alliances doesn't strike me as the sort of thing he'd be getting into.
Still not sure about the bit with Spirit and Maka. I'm not certain I can see Spirit thinking they shouldn't trust Crona again. Yes, she's a threat, but from the way he reacted to Medusa, I don't think Spirit would really dismiss Crona so quickly. She did, after all, act under incredible fear and pressure from Medusa, and was never especially stable to start with, even following her little turn-around with Maka.
The librarian's going to slap Medusa with one heck of a library fine. ;)

Well, from what I understood with my limited knowledge in Japanese...
Basically, Arachne was trying to convince Kishin that they both have things in common and that they share the same enemy, even to the point she kept it up until the end where she thought he was about to kill her. In a way, it was almost like she was trying to be a mother to him...
But you were pretty close on what was happening. But god, was that a disturbing and somewhat paintful scene to watch. I almost cringed when I heard the snapping sound.
The end of the episode, Maka was upset with both Shinigami and her father, since Maka was convinced that Crona didn't mean to do anything and that she really wants to apologize to both Marie and Stein for what she did. Unfortunately, she broke her contract that she signed with Shinigami (to basically not do anything bad) and Spirit believes that what she did goes beyond "apologizing". Maka gets upset with him further, because he's done things to mother that can't be forgiven.
While there wasn't anything terribly important surrounding or said about BJ, other than the fact of his coffee obsession, he seems to be snooping around Shibusen for something... But that's just what you get visually. He seems rather annoyed being tailed by those kids, however, because of what he's trying to do. What that is, I can only guess...

So early? This is pretty late... they could have easily done it after the showdown with Medusa.

Without looking back at the manga (because I am a lazy ass) it seem like this ep was entirely original...but in a good way :D
Arachne wow...I mean wow...
She was properly smashed around by Asura or what?
The whole scene was rather creepy and he relentlessly smashed her around the place then breaking her neck...
It is not that Arachne is at all weak but asura just being insanely strong...well that is a small price to pay for getting him onto your side I guess.
Then the whole thing with chrona confessing...we never got that in the manga iirc.
Still a really sad scene ;___;

Does that mean Stein and Mary will be safe now? They're going to take the snake out somehow? Medusa is seriously gonna surrender? Join Shinigami's side and fight Arrancar? :D
Was it just me or did Arachne refer to Asura as "that child"? CHILD?
He is damn old.
She said that she will protect him? Current he can only be matched by or threatened by 2 other beings. I don't think he fear for safety. I don't like the way their making Asura to be now in the anime. I think he would have or should have killed her, it fits his character if he did

they are gonna have to think of something with Asura after all, this means they are going to do something to him in the anime and finish it with no need of a second season, thats what i think anyway, they will kill three bad guys with one stone or four since sadly not many eps are left >_<
On Asura; come to think of it, Arachne's offer of protection does make some kind of sense. After all, the man is constantly afraid. Fear is ultimately what drove him mad. Arachne's playing off that need for protection from threats, perhaps, in order to get Asura's cooperation.
I also wouldn't have seen Asura letting Arachne live. But it's not the first time he's injured and not killed people who confronted him (Black Star and Kid).
With my limited understanding of japanese, can someone tell me some specifics? What are the items BJ wants Sid to collect? How important can they be anyways?
And also, I'm not so sure about what Maka was saying about her mama either. Especially when Crona asks what type of person she is and what she remembers most about her. Crona's reaction to the dialogue is getting me curious lol
Thanks!

Can somewhat understand why since with the rate the manga comes out it'd be a long time before they could go out after a sequel. Though its a bit sad too since it will cut away any chance down the road. Still should at least be an interesting finish to the series since it does seem like they'll be going after major opponents like Asura.

............they're screwwING UP THE MANNGAAA!!! >:-V
uh yeah. I know, manga bias, though I'm wondering if I'd feel the same if I didn't read the manga first.
Reasons why I'd still feel as though something's wrong, even without manga knowledge:
- Arachne doesn't seem like she would ask someone for help (as in beg), she's better than that I would think
- Asura is insane, but he's not a baby. This ep made him look like a baby all huddled up and cartoony like
- the scene with crona looking at the camera saying "wow maka's weird" with a deformed face was completely out of character
- maka's dad would never talk to his daughter like that, even in a serious moment
Though I do have to give props for Soul's "not cool" lines, which the manga pretty much forgot about.
Things I'm gonna really miss from the manga:
- Spirit and Marie's "baby"
- The drawing of stein looking all crazy after the murder accusation
- The was a lot more emotion in the kid/black star fight (spec. in the line "I don't care anymore that you broke it. STOP NOW"
- The clown
- evil kim
- Tsubaki lookin all pretty when leaving shibusen (while I'm at it, I might as well ask, why did she and black star leave anyway? i forget)
- kid/mosquito with brew fight
- puppet soul
- oh yeah, and more blair both as a human and a cat
prob some other scenes i'm forgetting about.
Damn it, I know I'm rambling, but the manga is so perfect. it's not even about the story anymore. its the art, the dialogue. just so well done.
And then we have the anime. :-\
Anyway, since this was a stupid/rambly post, feel free to delete it, mods.
Boring episode. What did I expect though? I do hate Crona.

Your pretty much right, Imd_84. It's why she put up no resistance(More than likely she wouldn't have won if she did or even try to evade his attacks.) because that wouldn't have made her sincere. She’s trying to show him that through her he has nothing to fear. If she did he would have become frightened and just outright kill her. This is how Arachne works. She manipulates you by playing on your fears and insecurities. It’s how the Gorgon sisters in general work. Medusa uses temptation and seduction whilst Arachne employs fear and mock compassion.
It makes sense because it works to the logic of both characters. The Kishen is afraid of everything and Arachne is a manipulator who preys on your weakness. I belive it was resolved a bit too quickly for my taste, but it’s forgivable considering Eureka shouldn’t even be ale to spy on Arachne given her seemingly “omnipotent” spider vison. But that’s a plothole discussion for another day.
I am hoping he eats Eureka or freaks her out again. That would be lulz-worthy.
- Arachne doesn't seem like she would ask someone for help (as in beg), she's better than that I would think
Don't think of it as begging think of it as surrounding herself with powerful beings to do the fighting for her. This seems more like an act of desperation, but it does fit her method of recruitment. Find a weakness and exploit it.

Rememeber the Kinshin's debut? When he's not in hot bishie mode he's pretty cartoony.

According to Medusa she can't fight for shit so she mind and soul rapes you instead. You never get to see it until her alleged death though and even then it's pretty small.
The only other thing we've seen her do is repel Chorona with her fan, but that's about it.

It didn't feel like begging or desperation to me. She's just playing mind games with him, pure and simple. The fact that she's willing to get injured to get him on her side just means that she was extremely confident.

Wow this episode was really interesting and totally unexpected.
Today we saw 2 top villains do things villains never do. Arachne met Asura herself and risked her own life (Since when to villains do that when they got henchmen to die for them?) and then you have Medusa surrendering, although obviously it's part of her plan somehow but it's also a big risk. For all she knows Shinigami might order her execution on the spot.
I'm glad Crona finally admitted what she did, it was beginning to drag a bit. Next episode ought to be very interesting.

The ep was good, the begging and the end (arachne and medousa parts) were rly good, I voted for 8/10
Anyway, this was clearly a prep episode, something big is coming, and although I do think that the series has been loosing some of its appeal for some time now, I believe that soon the wait will be completely worth it. From now on I want nothing short of EPIC.

Arachne proves that patience even through madness and a little bit of womanly charm can work to your advantage. She now has the demon god on her side and honestly all she really needs to do is release him. She cold, calculating and loves a good glass a wine sounds like my kind of woman lol.
I actually thought Chrona was going to go for good. Leave it Maka to make everything ok well kinda..... Chrona did sign that contact lets see what happens.
WTF Medusa surrenders Medusa doesn't do something unless there is ulterior motive behind it. I wonder what it is this time.
Now that the GR knows what happened to Stein and Marie im hoping he can reverse the affects before Stein gets any worse.

Some of the fansubbers are using "it" in some form, actually. Seems a bit of a play it safe option, but it's hard to be wrong that way.
