I'll open up by saying that I have never seen a child character this... "real", before. The way she carries herself, the way she reacts to things that Tomoya says... everything about her is genuinely well done. There's something about the way Kyoto Animation brings their Key characters to life that is just astonishing and makes them far superior to anything else within the genre (in my opinion). Ushio's voice is, of course, a big part of her character, and Satomi is doing an amazing job. I can't get enough of her. KyoAni's Ushio definitely managed to surpass my incredibly high expectations.
Can we have some other image of her in the Opening post?
She looked to much like Nagisa...
[On topic]
When I first saw her in the VN (the scene in the flower field), I was wishing so hard without realizing,
"God, give this family a chance somehow"
all teary :heh:

That was also my concern. However, in the episodes we got so far, either Ushio isn't fully focused or the quality of the design isn't exactly the best.
I guess a magazine scan would be better, should I find something more appropriate.

i totally loved nagisa, but i have to admit that as odd and crual as it may sound
nagisa dying so that ushio can be born, was worth it
i would still like it better if the trade ddint have to happen (but thast just me being greedy)

+1 yeah it was sad.. and i like nagisa too..
I love Ushio~ *__* My favorite Clannad character, ever. KyoAni did so well portraying her! Makes me wish I had a kid like her.
Sanae is an AMAZING child-raiser. The only fault Ushio has is her clumsiness. No stubborness, tantrums, whatsover. o_o

They did NOT just kill Ushio... They did NOT just do that to Tomoya... they did NOT make me cry AGAIN... and next week she will have a miraculous recovery, I'm sure of it, no question about it...
Now, everyone together, we are going to BEND reality to make everything the way it should be. Focus your mental powers and never mind the consequences of meddling with the fabric of space and time, I'm sure it will all work out somehow and if not, well, we won't be around to see it anyway...
It will work...
Shes a cutie., drpassafiume, if you need to be spoiled on anything, read my spoiler tag in the game thread
We've only had the joy of knowing little Dango-chan for only a short time, only to have her cruelly taken away by the hands of fate... :(
It's just not fair to have someone like Ushio dying like this! I had total empathy with Tomoya as he was shouting "Someone, please save Ushio!"

Agreed. :p
Dude if he lost Ushio too, I'm not sure what Tomoyo would do or become. I don't even know how real life people could handle it. If it were to happen to me, I would conclude that life is out for me and hates me! Now if he were to start over again and have it all taken from him again, might as well end his life. Definitely the world is out for him!

Ushio is such a well behaved child. Wonder if my child will be like that haha. Just a thought.
Ushio is such a loveable character. At least you get the feeling that a bit of Nagisa was still around while watching Clannad.

Er, well, my first post on this forum. By the way, is Ushio chan really died in episode 21? I don't play PC game CLANNAD...I like Nagisa but she died at last...and I really like Ushio, I hope Ushio will come back to life in episode 22.
By the way, that's my first post on this kind of forum, ^ ^, and I think it's fresh to see so many people live out of Asia love Japanese anime.
Ushio died. And general thoughts are she did not die for good enough reason.
Thus the rage. -_-"
And by the way too, AnimeSuki is not limited to non-asian :heh:
IF i have to rate Ushio kawai lvl 1 to 10 i would give her a 10˛, god her seiryuu is also just amazing i love her voice. One of the best anime "child" ever!

Ah ha ha. Come back again. I don't know how many guys here know the anime "I Love You BABY". I like Sakashita Yuzuyu , and her voice is from a young girl too, Kuzuhara Miyu, it seems that she's still 15 years old this year.....and I also found her voice in the anime Mushishi....
After seeing episode 22, all I have to say is:
Ushio is awesome.
She's the cutest thing to ever walk on two feet, and she's also her father's and mother's savior.

I would have to say shes one of the most lifelike and lovable characters i have ever seen. I had never had my heart sink so much seeing a character die before.
EDIT: Its a pity this thread is so small because Ushio only existed for a few episodes :(

I take it you've never seen Grave of the Fireflies? Watching Ushio always reminded me of that.

LOL... I've always been a Fuko fan... but when Ushio came along... and then came Fuko again...

Wow did anyone watch the first series again and see Ushio a few times in the opening? I can't believe I never noticed her, i just assumed it was Nagisa. The first season opening is really incredible
they even showed flickers of Fuko finding Ushio at the end of After Story in the first season opening. My mind kinda just exploded.

It just goes to show you that you can't have the complete story without the first season since that's when some elements of the plot were introduced. Before watching the second season, I did notice little Ushio running through the sunflower field but I really didn't pay much attention. Now that I re-watched the first season, I noticed they used a clip from Fuko finding little Ushio in that forest. Foreshadowing at it's finest :heh:
A thought, Ushio will be much older than any children her parents' friends have. 5 years after she was born, only Ryou is even possibly pregnant. She'll be their oneesan thanks to her parents' headstart.
Isn't Ushio really really kawaii?
How did they make the part where Ushio was running in the flower fields in Clannad Season 1, opening, when, After Story was not even made yet?

Because the plot was already set. The staff had everything planned out from Season 1 considering there were plenty of hints in the opening that lead right to After Story.

Oh, thanks. So basically, they'll just make it then. Right?
Oh, thanks. So basically, they'll just make it then. Right?
Like Tak had said earlier, this plot was an adaptation from a game and made into a 2 season anime. Of course there were adjustments but all the important plot points were already established so they included some foreshadowing into the openings and endings. This is usually the case with most animes, it's good to pay attention to the openings and endings because they will usually carry some hints as to what is going to happen if you interpret it right.

only one word for a child like Ushio.
KAWAII!
i mean face it: her voice, her appearence, EVERYTHING!
but aside from that..Ushio is a true miracle to clannad. <-- did that make sense?
Tomoya and Nagisa should be very greatful for a child like Ushio. She's just WONDERFUL.
It makes you wish she was your child, huh?
I remember in the After Story when Ushio and Tomoya were reunited, and they went on a trip together, Tomoya bought her a toy robot. And Ushio glady accepted it. In another scene, Ushio goes to play with the robot in a beautiful bed of sunflowers. As Tomoya comes back for her (after meeting his father's mother (?) for the first time} Ushio is found looking for something, the robot. She's lost it. Tomoya says that it's no big deal. Ushio tells him that it really is. Because it was the first thing her daddy got for her. Tomoya was shocked and flattered. Then Ushio asks "Is it okay to let it out?" she was trying not to cry. but she really wanted to. Tomoya finds out that Sanae has told her that good places to cry were in the bathroom..and in daddy's arms. Ushio starts crying. And Tomoya holds her while he crys as well.
To me this was the greatest scene in the After Story because it is the symbol of them finally becoming a real family.

Oh I just love this child. She's the most adorable child ever. I think of her as Tomoya and Nagisa's savior.
In my opinion Ushio is really amazing and super adorable. Ushio really has a lot of suprises. Most of the time she acts very naturally, but at time she is quite funny, e.g. bragging about that she has gone to toilet all by herself, pushing away the fried rice that Tomoya made for her (she rather eat white rice, she hates pepper), she loves baseball and robots/mecha. By the way, the scene with Ushio + Fuuka is super cute!
But I think YUI from K-ON! when she's a little kid is funnier in a weird way, e.g. playing with the castanets in kindergarten, bringing hundreds of crayfishes with bucket into a bathtub.

Ushio was like the tomboyish version of Nagisa, which makes her much more comedic than nagisa.

Oh, I could agree with you a million times over.
I couldn't hold my tears in either. After a few years of putting Anime aside, I came back to experience such a beautiful story. This particular scene turned my heart inside out; and made me cry, after so many years, over, and over. Heh, I find myself afraid of breaking down in tears again if I were to watch it a second time.
Ushio completed this Anime to perfection.

Well it must have made a big impact on you since you've been away from anime for quite some time.
Although it saddened me to see Nagisa die, I'm glad I got to experience the trials and hardships that Tomoya went through in order to realize what kind of a parent he was and how important he was to Ushio.
Ushio kinda tied up all the loose ends for Tomoya.

Both Tomoya's Dad and Nagisa's parents put their hopes and dreams onto their children, and gave it all they got. And Tomoya and Nagisa would do the same with their own child. Clannad has always been about hope. Ushio is pretty much the product of all the hope in the series as she is Tomoya's and Nagisa's dreams come true.
I found after watching Clannad, that little children started to annoy me less. :heh:

They never really annoyed me...but maybe that's just cos I haven't really met any in about 3 years ^^;
