Q: Extra episode...? What is this about? Shouldn't it be Episode 23 ?
A: As explained in the last week thread, CLANNAD ~AFTER STORY~ main story has ended with Episode 22.
Episode 23 does not follow the main plot (as it is set a year before the events of the first season occur), hence why it doesn't have any "Episode 23" in its title.

I hear i can get
Kyou fanservice here
Well, pretty much what you would expect from an extra episode. Not much important happenning, but nevertheless cute and warming.
The preview for the next episode doesn't really tell us anything given that it only showed the faces of every character in the series, with the preview song from the 1st season. I couldn't decipher the reading of the next episode title, but here is a screenshot.

The impression I got after watching the preview from Episode 22 is that this episode might be a recap. I hope not.

Ah, so they will air a 24:th episode as well. Damn, I was so looking forward to an announcement this week. Then again, an additional episode is always nice I guess.
The impression I got after watching the preview from Episode 22 is that this episode might be a recap. I hope not.
Negative. It is completely new footage.
YES! An epilogue! "Underneath the Green Tree" it says.
So, next episode is titled as extra or epilogue ?

Some kind of recap maybe ? Remember old rumours ? But I hope for something special and new with the meeting of all characters.

My bad. We're looking at a recap episode next week. Soushuuhen = Summary/Highlights episode.
Did they use this or the last season's OP and ED? Also, how many orbs on the title screen?
2nd season OP. Season season end. IW-Ushio
I take it you mean second season ED? Pity, with my idea, viewers could slot this ep seamlessly before ep1 of the first season in a rewatch. Oh well, at least the IW-Ushio pic wasn't wasted as a sponsors' page after all.
2nd season, yes. Being a hearing oriented person doesn't help when writing. :heh:

Yappa... Being young is good. They're best when they are young. Youth.
Prologue episode, it was... Very enjoyable. Been a while since I've seen blond Sunohara and heard Ryou talk.
After all of the gloom and doom and spirit convention end, this allowed me to end the series with good feelings. Well, it was hard to end the episode without laughing, with the last shot being absolutely surreal. :heh:
Ahoge=Aho, after all, huh... Memo memo
-Sunohara... Let's use more kanji when we write... A bunch of hiragana... :heh:

Clannad over finally. Wa~i~
In the end, they never updated the OP... Maa, I guess I anticipated more than I should have from Kyoani... They aren't Shaft, after all...
*Sigh* I was so hoping next weeks ep would be an OVA - something like the Tomoyo one in the 1st season.
There is so much potential to do a half season just from the missing arcs that were missed in the game (I have been reading a bit in the speculation for experienced gamers thread).
Oh well. I am grateful for what we do have. KyoAni have done a remarkable job of redacting a complex multiple path game into a linear path series. I do hope that both Clannad seasons get released in Australia on DVD. Buying them would be a small way of paying tribute to the studio for the job that they have done.

Wait, by recap you mean a clip show?
Looks like it could be a clip show. Never seen a KyoAni clip show before.
23 was good. Looked pretty much straight from the CD Drama/Another Story save for the Kyou bits.
Lulz for the exaggerated Akio-Sanae scene number two.

So for the final DVD they're going to charge the same price you'd pay for three full episodes for just 2 and a clip show? Sucks for the fans who buy these things, especially when you consider how cool episode 24 was for the previous season.
Yeah, but episode 24 from S1 got a DVD release itself so most probably they got money for it from the previous DVD sales and an increased budget pool. This time around because of how the broadcasts times played out they have to release ep.24 with the rest of the season, which means that they have to manage with whatever they have left from the series budget (probably not much, given how removed all safe guards for ep 22), and combine that with the current economical downturn, of which Japan is taking the worst part (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7952377.stm). Not a nice combination to be truthful. Given the love for their series that KyoAni is reputed to have, I doubt they are happy with this decision either, but money talks.

im watching ep 24 just to see what they announce (cmon little busters)
A slightly overwhelmed Nagisa is fine too.
Deredere Kyou is always a treat. (Demon Kyou is also a treat)
Sunohara is still just as much an idiot as ever. It looks like he was ready to obsess about tormenting Kyou during their second year, like he obsessed with proving Tomoyo was a man in his third year.
Tomoya sounds so much better here than in the Drama CD.
Ryou has so few lines...but she says them well.
Akio and Sanae....some things never change. (or get old)
Akio dramatization of girls at school.......I don't know what to say about that.
Preview:
To be honest though...aside from just images of all the cast members and a title scene...does anyone have a clue what the next episode could be about?
If KyoAni still has an artistic touch, then it could be a epilogue and the scenes we have the the preview are Tomoya remembering things while sitting with Nagisa and Ushio.

Guess I need to catch up on Clannad, if only for this episode.
I always liked the high school part better for some reason. Perhaps because it was a lot funnier, (though not any more awesome for it, mind) and perhaps because After Story kept invoking this nostalgia of times long past.
I still can't hear Nagisa's theme without crying. Damn you Jun Maeda. Damn you.
As for the clip show... I wouldn't think it's just that, given KyoAni. And even if it is, it's going to be a pretty clip show.

No, the next episode is definitely a recap/summary. No room for speculation or debate.
May I refer you to the screenshot Proto posted:

So that's that then.
And by the way, what's all this speculation about whether it's going to be a pretty clip show. Given that it's going to using footage from the series itself wouldn't it be obvious that it's going to have familiar standards.
Well anyway, here's to perhaps seeing a more compressed version of the story then Toei offered with it's movie.....only prettier. :heh:
Probabably because I missed where he said that, instead thinking "Underneath the Green Tree" was the title.

Many shows that use recap episodes are long-running and as a result are rather... low-quality.
This is KyoAni's first recap episode, if I'm not mistaken, and as a result is going to look very pretty compared to other such recap episodes.
That was what I was getting at.
Wow, I haven't though of it like that. The best recap episode ever. Now I can look forward to it.
And that is only half sarcasm! :p

Air TV, dude. Air TV. The problem is that recap episodes ARE forgettable, look at what it did to Wolf's Rain. Studio name have nothing to do with it and will not change that about recap episodes.
So, at this point, trolling about it is just tactless, pointless and tasteless gloating, if you know what I mean.

I don't. I watched Air in one sitting so I really didn't feel like watching that recap. I skimmed through it just to make sure I didn't miss anything "new". :heh:

Maybe we can hope for the same with this?

Has there ever been another series where the final episode to air was a recap? Just curious.
Also gotta agree with the Gurren-Lagann recap episode being worth checking out. It was handled very well and stylishly in my opinion. Also there's the one recap episode of Macross called Global's Report which I thought was a very interesting way of going about doing a recap while still trying to make it relevant to the plot as Global's Report does in fact become important later on. Anyway, I do still have to ask what the point of having a recap episode at the very end of a series run is. Wouldn't be terribly surprised if the ratings tank during that week, especially since the story is already over.

O jeez. Reigniting the whole AIR discussion would be a 'here we go again' moment... it'll be replacing quantum theories with Heien Japan and anthropology 101 ,attached with a primer on Shinto just to explain to people without that background knowledge of the foundations to that story.
About this episode. Well This shows alot of Kyou. I think it is quite cute in illustrating Kyou and Tomoya's dynamics while reminding people of where the characters were mindset wise before this 6 years ride that is Clannad.

Air TV... good memories. In fact, it was my introduction to "non-mainstream" anime since my friends happened to be subbing it :p
It's also what got me hooked on Key/Kyoani productions. So in a sense, if I hadn't watched Air TV, I wouldn't be enjoying the epic that is Clannad. However, I vaguely remember seeing Nagisa & company for the first time on my classmates' PowerPoint presentations in maths class (random, I know)... that was way back in 2004 when the game was just released.

If you want to get technical then their first adaptation where they had any sort of real impact was actually Tenchi Universe in cooperation with AIC. If not then it's still Fumoffu which was the first production they actually spearheaded. As for the first thing they ever worked on, some research tells me it was Giant Gorg. That certainly explains a few things.....

*sigh* Where is KyoAni's creativity in their openings and endings? I agree that they will never get as good as Shaft (who ironically have less money for their works but can still afford to change their ED every 2 or 3 episodes), but sometimes their rigidly consistent use of OPs/EDs really stands out.
Use of Torch after episode 16 of After Story is the perfect example. In fact, that ending should have been changed after episode 9, even if they just inserted Dango Daikazoku in. Same with episode 21, what with a zombie Ushio dancing to hip instrumentals right after she dies. Plus the opening animation (not the song) should have been changed after episode 16 of After Story to be less "School Life"-ish. And what was the point of giving Tomoyo and Kotomi so much screen time to themselves in that opening? Filler? And episode 22 of After Story already had an alternate ending they could have used: Chiisana Tenohira. It was basically screaming "Play the credits with me and make me the ending so you get 1.5 minutes extra footage!" but they resorted to good ol' Torch anyway (although that time Torch didn't stick out like a talking squirrel in a dystopian tragedy).
And finally this episode. All they had to do was replace the OP/ED with those of the first season to fit the prequel feel. But they lazily kept the same OP/ED from After Story. =__=
Openings and endings are supposed to represent and blend in with the events of the series they are in, which is why so many series have multiple ones. This is one of the reasons I like Shaft's style so much, having seen ef: a tale of memories. But KyoAni seems to have little creativity in this department. I sincerely hope they improve on that, especially since the Little Busters visual novel has 4 endings, perfect for use with a 3-cour anime that changes the ED every 12 episodes and uses the last one for the last episode.

Well, AIR was 2-cour with the OP. If I were to compare SHAFT with KyoAni though, I have to say that kyoani has a mastery on producing movie-grade cinematic on TV show budgets while SHAFT focuses on originality in artistic representation. You can't touch Kyoani with their renders of environmental effects, water, lighting and actually snowfall in particular...

Though if we had Nobutoshi Canna and Hikaru Midorikawa making idiots of themselves instead, that would be AWESOME.
AIR has probably the only OP song I've heard that made me want to cry when I first heard it...and I haven't seen AIR. It was only the little part in the nico nico douga thing.

I agree Kyo-ani needs to get in on the musical score changes for specifics or what have you. They put the inserts in good places but don't use them to their full advantage.
Very amusing episode. Has some excellent shots and humor.

I was going to bring that up in my last post but I didn't have time. I truly meant to say that KyoAni lacks musical direction for their OPs/EDs with their Key adaptations for some reason. Lucky Star had a different ED in each episode, and used the OP for an insert (full dance!) in the final episode. Haruhi had a unique OP for the first episode and changed the ED animation a few times. But these were Kadokawa works. This gives me the feeling that KyoAni has completely different music direction for their Key anime and Kadokawa anime.

Tori no Uta is way to upbeat for me to ever even consider crying over it. Though this gets me thinking if any studio really wants to get people crying with an opening then they should use an excerpt from Adagio For Strings (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izQsgE0L450&feature=PlayList&p=22EB6E0F69307A97&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=1). Though I might be tempted to call it cheating if any show ever does use it. That's a song that just me all depressed and teared up just by listening to it. Especially since I know what's it's supposed to signify.

3-cour shows aren't as common, but they're there.
Kyou Kara Maoh and Saiunkoku Monogatari are examples that were intended to be 39 eps.
Ahh Akio was awesome in this again, at least for the line that brought out the :3 in the spectators/viewers: "A person whom you bump into on the street might be you next best friend, or your life's most important person."
Also, love his variation of the Sanae bread running joke(pun fully intended).
Say, aren't the Kyou scenes Kyoani-original?
Finally, hasn't it been a while since we've seen some fun with anime tropes, like the mouth with hammerspace, and the chirpy dizziness?
Was this whole episode original material?

No, the Nagisa parts were from an audio drama (http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Clannad_Another_Story:Another_Stor y1) I think, but I haven't seen the source for the Kyou parts anywhere, which should mean they were original.
Yeah. Basically any part with Nagisa was from the drama as well as the parts with Tomoya and Sunohara getting in trouble (behind the curtain) and the making of the trap.
The Kyou parts? I have no idea...but I liked them.
I wonder if Tomoya ever saw that banner again after he moved in with the Furukawas?

We only see the beginning of their year in this episode, I wonder how long it was till Kyou started them them two by their first name...
Still, it was fun to see demon Kyou after all the serious stuff in after story:D
Best partof the story: "Okazaki! ABUNAI!!!!!!" followed by Sunohara hitting the bullzeye with Kyou:D
So the Nagisa's part was indeed from the first chapter of the short stories, Hikari Mimamoru Sakamichi de..
Considering I can only read the chapters translated into english, there is still possibilty that the Kyou's part could be from the untranslated chapter, right?
At first I was dissapointed when I did not hear nagisa's inner monologue, but kyoani moved them to the end of the show at the conversation with Akio... acceptable.
Still a very beautiful things, that a simple words that Tomoya wrote actually bring out your (Nagisa's) courage.

I was laughing till I cried this episode. HILARIOUS, and Kyou actually fell for guys with good looks.
Both the Fujibayashi sisters like Tomoya, that is interesting.

And I was right.......

Well i liked episode 23. It was pretty much just a trip down memory lane (aka 2007). Kinda nice to see where Kyou's feelings for Tomoya started.
Ooooh! I want more of this! I love prologues so much... They could probably go on to show the events of the year, maybe a small thing of a love interest Nagisa had, like a small crush, and then more of Sunohara/Tomoya's pranks and stuff... And then how the sickness ruined Nagisa's crush. Ooh! I want more! Then end it on the hill where Tomoya and Nagisa met.

Haha, IW Ushio under the tree during the opening.
And yes, I'm one of those who wished that KyoAni should have used S1's aesthetics for this extra episode (meaning a more rounded look for Nagisa and all the others, plus S1's OP and ED), but as we've seen from this season, KyoAni is terribly, TERRIBLY uncreative when it comes to modifying their OPs and EDs.
I call it being incredibly consistent. To the point of perfection.

I call it being incredibly consistent.
Which can cut both ways if the emotional content of the show clashes with the upbeat ED, doesn't it? ;)
You could always imagine it is some kind of oxymoron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxymoron) aimed at creating an unsettling sensation from the emotional and visual contradiction.

Let's just call it an example of Mood Whiplash, and leave it at that. It might just be really that the company couldn't be bothered producing alternate EDs (or OPs for that matter, once the series got fully into the After Story section). The ED worked with some episodes, and horribly HORRIBLY clashed with others.

Best part of the episode- Akio! My God was he funny this episode, I miss these type of episodes :(.
Though if we had Nobutoshi Canna and Hikaru Midorikawa making idiots of themselves instead, that would be AWESOME.
Especially if they could have them play out a Lancer vs. Zero Lancer skit!

It was an amusing episode to be sure. Definitely a nice breather after all the drama.
High points for me:
"Ultra Mom"
Tomoya saving Kyou from the falling boards. Nice to see that he's always been a good guy despite his propensity for delinquency.
Kyou wondering if Tomoya has a girlfriend. *sigh* I really would kill for a Fujibayashi Sisters Route OVA.
The sound the pan made when it hit poor Nagisa.
Fujibayashi fanservice FTW!
When I saw that pan about to hit Nagisa, I swear I wanted to beat the stuffing out of Youhei for putting it there...
...and worse, having that stupid happy face when it happened.
Grr.
Is it me or did the the prank at the end look like a giant phallic object. I personally enjoyed it, lots good ole fujibayashi action, and overall pretty funny classic tomoya sunohara antics.

Oh the irony. Tomoya and Nagisa's initial meeting is him bumping into her, she ends up apologizing, and him being a bit of an ass about it. Nice way to meet the future love of your life thar.:D
Telephone croissants are awesome. Akio is also the only person who can talk/act like a girl and still be Ultra Gar. It's unbelievable. Also, his statement of Nagisa finding someone who will "click" with her is almost prophetic.
Finally, some backstory on what exactly Kyou saw in Tomoya, and Ryou too. More than that, Fujibayashi twins fanservice = win, except maybe for the part of playing "Nagisa" while the two of them were bathing...:uhoh:
And then, being party to the plot to get the future love of your life into the infirmary with a concussion doesn't give you any more points. This even begs the question if Tomoya and Nagisa even KNOW that they're both involved.
----------------
Of course, for me, the highlights of this episode is how it capitalizes just how different these two individuals were before they met. Tomoya's passive observing negligence and "coming along for the ride" attitude embodies just how detached he is emotionally from almost anything. Nagisa's continued social ineptness despite people's attempts to befriend her is completely endearing and yet also unbelievably sad.
Call me strange, but my favorite part was where Nagisa read the banner at the end, not knowing who it was, but taking those words to heart. Even then, you could tell that Tomoya somehow believed in what he wanted to tell whoever would end up being smacked upside the head.
Consider it a twist of fate, a foreshadowing or a guarantee. Even though neither knew who wrote it or who got hit, they took it both to heart. For me, this was their FIRST TRUE meeting.:)

It's not strange at all. ;) It's touching, his words (thought on a whim) has given Nagisa a gentle push in the back, without both parties here realizing.
That's really sweet ;)
Edit:
This episode surpasses the short stories version in one thing though.
We get to see the twintailed classmates observing Nagisa the whole time, before she actually asked her to be friends.

Actually I was quite impressed by the artistry of the scene when the pan fell on Nagisa's head. It fell so slowly, then at the very last second it hits with a resounding "bong" and she just KO-ed.
It sure took its time to fall, but in the end it just made me laugh harder at the expression.

Now where do I start?
It would be unrealistic to expect this to be as intensive as the climatic final episodes, as this is after all, an extra story, to wind down the mood. But it's a good relaxing prequel to watch.
Who would've thought it was none other than Tomoya that indirectly helped Nagisa made friends in her original third year? Sure it sounds far-fetched, but this is an example of artistic license on "destiny" executed well, so I'm not complaining.
Also quite surprised to see some Kyou scenes which are just golden. She's just too cute when being led around by Sunohara's fake love letters.
Amongst the first years then, I saw Nishina, Sugisaka and Yukine (who has yet to make the Data Room her personal domain), Tomoyo is obviously absent as she won't transfer till the following year.
BTW, just how many of Sanae's bread can Akio hold in his mouth? LOL
Overall Clannad and Clannad AS has been a very entertaining series, granted it could have been better, but rather than focus on the flaws like some people like to do here, I'm going to look at the bigger picture and say Kyoto-Animation has done a fine adaptation, especially when it comes to portraying the realities and toughness of life after school, where I find it thought provoking, so they must have done something right after all.
PS: Can those who already know Little Busters inside out please not discuss about the speculation of it getting animated here? Not everyone's played the game. (I only just started recently, in fact. ) IIRC, there's a thread in the Games section.

Just a question what exactly is the next episode about? The preview said well just..."preview," and then complimation after a montage of scenes from other episodes. Is the next episode just going to summarize the After Story? I really hope they don't -_-.
Personally I forgot what happened in episodes 8-10 so it will come in handy.

It's basically just a summary episode. Im hoping they annouce their new anime after it ends!
Well that was fun...
Tomoya's quote in the end that they had so much time... If only he realised how quickly that time would slip by...
I still wish KyoAni would do a Tomoya x Kyou OVA
I am not looking forward to next week. Nothing about the episode itself, just that it is the last one. Clannad has been a fun ride and it is a shame it is coming to an end.
Did anyone spot Kotomi during the assembly scenes? I thought I saw a girl with a similar hairstlyle, but she wasn't a match.
Really, really great episode that brought together many of the things I ever liked about the series (humor, Sunohara, Akio, Kyou, Prankster Tomoya) and passed on all of the things I never really got into (serious romance drama, serious family drama, Good Guy Tomoya). Most notably, Sunohara and Akio reminded me over and over why they're my favorite Key male characters by a huge margin, with their offbeat inflections ("nice idea~" from Sunohara, and Akio's wonderful impersonations of high school girls) and their ability to constantly come across as idiots--and arguably even be idiots--yet also say brilliant and perceptive things. The fine line between genius and insanity rears its head in full.
Episodes 2-8 of After Story are still the entire series' high point for me, but this is pretty close, and I think I actually enjoyed it even more than Fuuko's arc or the basketball game.

While I can't say that this episode is anywhere near as good as the light-hearted episodes in season one, or the insanely emotional After Story-arc, it was still a fairly enjoyable episode. I especially liked the part when Akio stuffed an entire basket of bread into his mouth while still TRYING to shout "I love them!!!". All in all, I'd give it an 8/10.
...Also, I probably won't watch next week's episode, seeing how it seems like it'll be nothing but a recap... And I really don't want to see them try to compress a 46 episode show into 21 minutes.
Shouldn't see Kotomi at all (unless she'd in the library, but then Kyou would have met her). The two groups we see are the third years (Nagisa's group) at assembly, and the first years (which Sunohara is trying to prank). The only time we really see second year students are in Tomoya's class and Ryou.
Oh man when Tomoya and Sunohara first meet Kyou the damn song from episode 17 season 1 starts playing and I just want to scream at the screen "don't fall in love with this twat"

I was really hoping for Kyou's story as an extra route maybe they can give a bonus on DVD >.>
To be quite fair to him, they never introduced each other and this was a year from the beginning of the series. It's not unreasonable that he'd forget about the victim of one of many pranks he played (whose victim he never met), nor that she would remember the pranker (who she never met).
They never directly interacted with each other beyond the bumping into each other in the first minutes of the episode.

KyoAni is still higher quality than almost any other studio.
I think it's because they're working on Munto, K-On! and this all at the same time.
(And Haruhi-chan, but I barely count that even if it is fairly high-quality for a web short.)
Hmmm, that's different. Or prehaps Nagisa just has diffuculty reading his writing.
"I'd have to apologize to Really-Complex-Kanji-Name-Person that gave me this valuable opportunity"
As for quality. Most serious scenes have their standard high quality production value. The comic scene get lower quality...sometimes to make it funnier. (Sunohara's ultra wide smile is not good quality...but its funny...as is Akio's more cartoon-ish looks in a few scenes.)
It's not exactly a common way to write yoroshiku. In fact, I actually couldn't get my program to bring up that kanji combination for that word. It's not really surprising that Nagisa wouldn't be able to make sense of the kanji being presented as a name but really aren't. It also functions as something of a joke, but the larger point of the episode is that Tomoya helped her out even before they properly met.
couldn't get my program to bring up that kanji combination for that word
"yoroshiku", first result in EDICT => 夜露死苦 (but marked as ateji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ateji), so this is expected to look like a riddle)
Not a very eventful episode, but it was enjoyable. I'm going to watch the next ep but I'm not really expecting much. Is there really any reason to show it? But who knows, maybe we'll get something new.
AIR has probably the only OP song I've heard that made me want to cry when I first heard it
It doesn't make me cry at all, but Air's OP is a beautiful song. I liked it so much it caused me to inflate my impression of the series a bit.
"yoroshiku", first resulit in EDICT => 夜露死苦 (but marked as ateji (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ateji), so this is expected to look like a riddle)
Since 夜露死苦 is mainly used by gangsters. Maybe it's hard for innocent Nagisa to understand the exact meaning.
BTW, do you ever imagine that if one day Okazaki Nagisa shows the words to her husband, and says how she was moved with a smile, what kind of facial expression can we expect on Tomoya??:D
First one would wonder if he'd remember that prank...then the expression of seeing his own name....:D

I think the picture showed Tomoya's name so you could compare it to the scroll.
That picture you're probably talking about was for a comparison since some people were mistaking it for Tomoya's name. What was written was 夜露死苦. Which is I guess the gangster way of writing "yoroshiku" in kanji. I always thought the gangster way was to write it using the kanji of certain numbers, but I guess not.

They could simply give me a montage of that desolate world, and maybe a small snippet of Reverie's famous monologue, and I could care less if episode 24 is made to become a horrible festering blight on the series known as Clannad.
More fluff to a show thats already finished is nice I guess. Key had a nice run, but I wish KyoAni would revisit some of their other series.

Anyhow, it was very enjoyable, humorous episode, a pleasant change from string of mad emotional rush episodes. Hmm so this time, I guess eps 24 will air normally on TV and not on DVD's?
Also, not sure if this was asked before, but can some one confirm if this episode is canon? (like, was this episode adapted from the game)
The stuff revolving around Nagisa is adapted from a short story in the Clannad: Official Another Story light novel and is canon. The Kyou sequences are additions by Kyoto Animation to fill in time and technically are not canon, but don't contradict anything (I wouldn't be shocked if they cleared the changes with Key beforehand) and may as well be canonical.

upon closer reflection i think i may have been mistaken
i dont think the animation level is inferior in this ep
i think its partly intentional
i think its a way of conveying the lack of "color" both tomoya and nagisa's life had before meeting in ep 1
its not the same way that the start of ep 1 was becouse there are other character interactions and stuff
but there is something missing, and i think the animation is showing this by being less colorful and more brownish then normal

Anyway there are some things worth noticing about......
1. When Akio is holding the tray full of bread, the one at the top is GREEN. :twitch:
2. Kotomi (that cuddly tone-deaf girl) appeared before the OP in the same scene as Nagisa looking lost. So which means that it is another turn left, turn right (a Chinese movie with an interesting storyline) incident, since Kotomi has lost contact with Tomoya since young and they yet missed their first chance of reunion.
3. In the bathtub scene, Ryou has got better lifted boobs than her twin, a hint that she DOES have bigger ones than Kyou. And I thought twins are supposed to be genetically similar?

Nice episode :)
Just one thing..
How come we didn't see Nagisas friend in episode 1 and 2 (season 1) ? Back then she was all alone.

Because it's one year later. As she says in episode one, her friends have all graduated, leaving her behind when she had to repeat the grade because of her illness. They're not in contact not because they don't like her anymore, but because they're no longer students.
Haha I missed these comical episodes. Sunohara and Okazaki being a delinquint as always.
Still wouldn't have mind a Tomoya x Kyou lol.

Very good episode and a good way to end the series. I wouldn't mind some more episodes about Tomoya and Sunohara's antics.
And this is the highlight (http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/2154/clannadafterstoryextral.jpg) of the episode, of course. haha.

9 out of 10 : Excellent.
Poor Nagisa....at least the two pranksters made it up to her with the drama club...even if neither she nor they realize it.
Akio's acting skills are scary good.
EDIT: The first one was "Crab Bread" but what was the second one? I didn't catch it...though my mind wants to say Melon Bread

Clannad Season 3:
Clannad Fumoffu!
Lol
All the other arcs thrown in, just with heavily exaggerated comedy and fanservice used to keep it from being taken seriously.

The episode was enjoyable, except when Nagisa got hit by a big pan or something like this. I wish there was more Kyou though.

The thing that I found to be the funniest about this scene was that it seemed almost like a victory pose. So dignified and regal as if she did indeed win something.

How dare they tease us with a tiny hint of Kyou fanservice. That's evil, evil I say! WANT MORE!
Light fluffy episode. Not much to say. Not really Clannad at its funniest either (I thought it got a bit too repetitive). Although I did like how it explained how a few little things got started, like Kyou's crush on Tomoya and her goal to become a kindergarten teacher.
Joke confesstions are always fun :D but what we expect from last ep??

Holycrap Nagisa was so cute XD. Of course Kyou was good too. I can see where tsundere fans are coming from easily. Too bad she wasn't so cute in her own route T.T. KyoAni adapted the material from the light novel very faithfully. However I think all the Kyou parts were original ownage fanservice (Not 100% sure but that bath sceen was damn good). I can see how Kyou starts to get attracted to Tomoya, but I also noticed Tomoya's attitude towards Kyou; no real intrest or apathy heh. It was funny how Tomoya's sarcasm about Kyou's personality flew over her head. Tomoya isn't much of a tsundere fan huh? I guess it really could be like a troll to Kyou fans: "We'll give you some hawt delicous Kyou skin and some deredere dessert but at the same time show that she ain't hooking up with the main lead."
I literally lol'd when I saw Akio deform his mouth and stuff the whole tray of bread down, damn that never gets old. It was intresting how Akio mentioned something like "even someone you just pass in the hall could become your future soulmate." and it turned out that Tomoya bumbed into Nagisa just a few hours before.
I also like how they showed Nagisa really DID have a few friends, only they graduated. It was told to us in words but I bet no one belived? Haha good job Nagisa.

Hmm, Fate is strange. Tomoya unknowingly encouraged Nagisa to persevere on in school and inevitably, allow them to meet each other. Anyway, this episode is quite alright but i sometime wish for a Kyou episode since Tomoyo has one for herself

So any real expectation for the episode following this, aside from a slideshow, or possible 'where are they now' reunion? Or are we REALLY just going to watch because we want to see if KyoAni with remain KeyAni and make another VN adaptation, or see if Kadokawa will troll people ONE LAST TIME before making them drop a fandom?

Very enjoyable extra. It was interesting seeing Kyou meet Sunohara and Tomoya. Since they already knew each other at the start of the series, this gives you a little more background. Of course Sunohara and Akio were great for laughs. When Nagisa pulled the string, I was holding my breath. The pan took so long to fall and I hadn't realized I was holding my breath. But the bang was so funny. Definitely the climax of the episode.
This discussion thread is meant for the Extra Episode, not for game/novel discussion or other topics. Please keep this in mind.

But i wonder if there's any company willing to do all those extra arcs just for the sake of continuing Clannad since there's a lot of other new animes coming out.
Furthermore, i'm sure a lot of KEY fans are clamouring for Little Busters! which may cause other companies to focus on adapting Little Busters! into an anime as it is more of a money-spinner compared to Clannad.

There have been two studio to adapt key works toei and kyoto anime, seeing from the recent shift, it seems that kyoto anime will be the only ones to do a little busters series, and at this point its pretty much expected that kyoto anime will be handling other key products in the future.
This episode was like saying "Right, we've put you through the mill for the last few months, so here, have some Fujibayashi sisters bathtime fanservice and some comedy hi-jinks!".
I suspect a lot of people would quite happily watch whole episodes of Kyou and Ryou in the bath...
Akio coming up with mad schemes for Nagisa to make friends, and then her fantasy of following one of those schemes.
Anyone notice the 'Bread and Jam' sign in the shop? Retro-foreshadowing, or was that there all the time?
But the bowl falling on poor Nagisa's head was hilarious - not the act itself, the way it was depicted, straight out of Looney Tunes.
I'll probably watch the recap, if only to see how they frame it.
They've always sold jam at the Furukawa bakery. You can see this in the first season already.
I like how the last episode of both seasons is the best.

Episode 23
-I really liked the way Nagisa and Tomoya saw each other for the first time. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Manga/japanese-021.gif It was so…so…so “ordinary”. Tomoya could have never imagined that the girl he bumped into on that day would be the girl who would change his world and that he would grow to love so much.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-096.gif
-Kyou threatening Sunohara with a hammer was great! http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-061.gif
-mmm…mmm…so Tomoya likes Kyou’s personality.
-The way in which Akio was encouraging Nagisa to be proactive in making new friends was hilarious!http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-086.gif
-Akio’s special trick was so funny!!http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-081.gif “Ultra mom”. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-069.gif
-“There must be someone willing to suffer through eating this”, Akio, Akio when will you learn not to insult your poor wife’s bread.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-061.gif
-Nagisa putting in action the Ultra mom trick was so cute!!!http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi00.gif
-“I guess he belongs to the cool-looking side”...mmm...so it was in that very moment that Kyou started to fall in love with Tomoya.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/cloud-9-039.gif
-The way in which Kyou erased Sunohara’s memory was priceless.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-053.gif
-I didn’t like how Nagisa’s “friend” from her junior year (Kimura-san) and her new friend toyed with Nagisa and kind of make fun of her. O.K. I can understand that that could have been something funny for them, but it was mean funny.
-“Even among those you pass in the hallway may be a friend forever or your soulmate. But without action, they’re forever no one to you”, that was deep Akio!http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-048.gif I liked what Akio said to Nagisa because it’s so true! :)
-So during their junior year, Kyou was the Tomoyo of Sunohara.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-061.gif
-So I guess, Kyou was secretly wanting/wishing for that letter to be from Tomoya.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/cloud-9-039.gif
-I really enjoyed seeing Kyou’s girly side in this episode. It was very adorable how she kept following the notes. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi00.gif
-Nagisa eating bread was as kawaii as always, I so love her!http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi01.gif
-Loved how Kyou gave Sunohara and Tomoya a so deserving punishment for messing up with her, especially Sunohara. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Respect/respect-054.gifThat prank was too mean!! Sunohara is a prank master, but this time his pranks were meaner than funnier. :upset:
-Sunohara and Tomoya ironing-team had me rolf so hard. http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-074.gif
-When Nagisa pulled the string I was mentally yelling: http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi31.gif“Nagisa… nooooooo!!” Poor nagisa she is so kind and naïve. :(
-O.K. I have to be honest, I did laugh a little bit when that metal tub fell on Nagisa’s head; but after a few seconds the humorous part of that scene stopped for me and I started to feel really mad at Sunohara and Tomoya.http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi05.gif Sunohara Tomoya you idiots!!! :frustrated::mad: You could have hurt Nagisa really bad. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi10.gif
-Tomoya and Sunohara were super mean in this episode, especially Sunohara. The only reason why I forgave them was because thanks to their prank Nagisa had the chance to finally make a friend. :)
-“Love letter Mission 2”…So Kyou was definitely the Tomoyo of Sunohara during their junior year.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-061.gif
-Awww.http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi00.gif It was so sweet how the message that encouraged Nagisa to make a friend was from Tomoya. He was helping Nagisa even before they were friends, when they were still strangers. I liked the message very much too.http://smileys.on-my-web.com/repository/Happy/happy-096.gif
-"The End"…….noooooooo!! I want more Clannad. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/tina_0205/monkey%20emoticon/khi04.gif

Apparently there was no announcement at the end, so no new Key/KyoAni project imminent. Based on what little I've seen, Little Busters looked interesting. Besides - it would have presented an irresistible opportunity to get The Pillows into anime for a third time...

They are doing K-ON!. Even I would be tired of seeing another VA/Key adaptation back to back or in one year. Take a break do something else 4koma based again. Maybe we'll see an announcement at the end of K-ON! if it doesn't drag longer than a season.

Akio was referencing the Tokusatsu character Ultraman. And definitely everyone will think you as a weird Tokusatsu fan for saying something like that.

Hi,
I don't mean to change the subject but I've just gotten through with ep. 18 and I just couldn't watch any more of the series, right now. It's almost like Mike Landon wrote this show ... Happy, beautiful but can be sad too ... But ...
I just had to say something at this point, even if no one agrees or cares ...
Is it just me or did Tomo not get the Doctor's advice that it would be a life and death delivery and that she should have the child in the hospital? Me, I would have taken leave from work, in the last month of her pregnancy and when the weather got bad moved her into a hotel or whatever nearer to the hospital, of course, bad things could have still happened, even in a modern hospital with all its modern wonder drugs and such, but, after-wards regardless of what happened, I would have been able to say that I did everything possible to see that things came out okay. A mid-wife? Was he nuts? Even with the woman in excellent health complications can arise. I don't know what the statistics were before the advent of modern natal and pre-natal care, but, I do know that the odds were pretty far against the mother not in great health.
But then again I'm alone and have been for most of my life and probably will be for the rest of my painful life ... That's just the way it is for me. So, maybe I have a bit differnet point of veiw on family and its importance ... Having never really had one of my own, (I'm butt ugly, poor and handicapped.) lol
In review:
This show is well made, with great art, has excellent voice acting and good writing. Has some dead-gum beautiful moments, some funny and exciting moments, as well ... But it has some gut-wrenchingly sad moments, too. I would, however, still recommend it to any one. It is, put simply, on my "must see list."
Good Journey ...

Well this topic has been discussed to death in the thread about ep 16. The general agreement is that fate screwed them over and Tomoya did all he could. Anyway watch ep 24 to see all of this clear up and come full circle, you won't regret it.
