View Full Version : Looking for a Kick ass Anime.
I'm kinda drawn to an anime where the hero is untouchable, and completely obliterates the enemies... Hellsing is kinda like this, Claymore is a little bit, Bleach is at times, Anything where the fight scenes give me chills is awesome ie: Bleach.
Naruto would be an example of the opposite of what I'm looking for, hes portrayed as an idiot for 99% of the show, which hurts to watch. Deathnote while having no real fight scenes is a good example also of the main character know what they're doing and accomplishing it.
Trigun was also in the category of a powerful main character. Looking for melee combat for the most part, or mixed.
I'm trying to narrow it down as much as possible, if you think you know of a few good suggestions toss em my way, I'll leave feedback and whatnot. Thanks alot :)

Code Geass, especially in the second season. It has a good mixture of tatics from affar and full out battles.
You need to watch Shura no Toki (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=1663). I recommend just the first two arcs though (through episode 14). The last arc is disappointing and unnecessary (all three are different stories with different characters, focused around a successor to the Mutsu Enmei-Ryu fighting style). You will see the two protagonist Mutsus barehandedly wipe the floor with armed swordsmen.
You might also take a look at Rurouni Kenshin (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=90) if you haven't done so. Kenshin is similar to Vash.
I've watched a season or two of code geass, and yes its an awesome anime. Little odd and.. poor euphie. :(
As for the others I'll confess that unarmed combat isn't exactly my thing, I'll give them a shot either way.
And I recently just got done watching Afro Samurai, its pretty decent, if a little short in length and fight scenes. And somewhat cliche, though oddly enough I liked the music.. O.o
Any others? Keep em comin. :) Currently checking out Blood + and Elfen Lied Also.
You'll definitely like Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal. Kenshin is a certified untouchable badass. It's a prequel to the series so it won't ruin anything if you haven't watched the series yet.
You might also like Scrapped Princess. The main character isn't what you're looking for but her brother (swordsman) and sister (magician) are at the top of their game and beat up on a lot of people.
Added to my list, Should prove for some interesting watching tonight :)
Keep the suggestions coming, I'll get around to em as I do.
And so far all of these look good, A friend suggested Samurai Champloo, and its definatley down the same alley.

Seconded on ruroni kenshin, though I intensely disliked it. You may want to try berserk or bakumatsu kikansetsu irohanihoheto.
second berserk. also recomend Sword of the stranger.
GTO, it may not be fantasy action but theres a whole hell of a lot of action, and although Onizuka is goofy at times man is he a beast. Check it out.
Ah, I completely forgot about Tenjou Tenge. It is unarmed combat, mostly, but it's pretty good.

Watch from about 6min.

That's about the only good fight in the whole series though. =P
sshhhh =)
There's also a good ones between Aya/guy-with-staff, Maya/Emi, and Shin/Mitsuomi.
It's a shame they cut off the anime so early. There's some cool stuff that happens as the manga continues.. even if it does get convoluted as hell.
I've seen Berzerk, It took a long time for me to be able to get past the anime drawing, but it was pretty good. And had a WTF twist like no other lol.
I'll Check out the last few, Kenshin is pretty good, Just watched the betrayal series last night, pretty good.
Also watched a bit of Elfen Lied and Blood, So far they look good, but not what I'm looking for. The main character in each of these doesn't seem all that bad ass to me. I dunno.
So far I'd say Samurai Champloo is the closest, and its still kinda stretching it. I'll check out the others though :)

Did you ever watch trust? Betrayal is kind of pt. 2 of what happens in trust.

Have you tried Full Metal Panic? The story line screwed up, but there is action, comedy, and romance in it. :P
Full Metal Coast

Full Metal Panic
Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X
Vampire Hunter D
Ninja Scroll
Spriggan
Yea I watched the Trust&Betrayal set, its like 4-5 episodes right?
I'll check out black lagoon, and the others you listed.

Have you seen Kaze no Stigma?
Spriggan is for sure a kick ass anime. I just might re-watch that.
Seed, Thats a pretty good anime. I might watch that one through. :)
I've watched atleast a little bit of every suggestion in here so far, While some of them look like fine anime the ones that have interested me so far have been
Samurai Champloo
Kenshin
Kaze no Stigma
I dunno, Gun fights don't really do it for me. Nor do very annoying characters. heh :)
Keep em rolling though, Never can have enough anime to watch at once. XD
You are looking for GunXSword. Yes, there are some guns, but all fights have melee sword fighting since the main character is a badass sword wielder.
Plus you get to meet lots of weird, hilarious and interesting guys. And all the girls you meet are hot.
Its a mecha anime. Is the main character powerful? Yes of course, especially when you're reminded that the main character's mech is the most powerful every episode.
Doesn't look bad, but I really can't stand mech anime : / sorry.
Need a rich story, Powerful Main character, and sword fighting.
Rich story is something you can immerse yourself in, you laugh and are happy for the characters when they're happy. And your damn close to tears when bad things happen. (kinda like the thing with euphie in code geass.. damn that was sad)
Powerful Main Character. Not stupid, powerful, Smart, Intelligent. Always has the upper hand, even if the villan doesn't know it yet.
And sword fighting, knife fighting. Something that looks flashy, not nessasarily old school samurai stuff.. And not limited to guns. fraid DBZ style fighting is all that really thrills me, or Bleach fights, naruto.. Stuff like that, as childish as it is compared to mature samurai battles.. heh. I guess there a little kid somewhere in me firing off hadukens :)
Guess I'll keep looking :)
You want tears? One Piece, its the one thing I cried most for.
One Piece is the best long running manga ever.
It has everything in your post above, Luffy doesn't use swords, but Zoro does. Though Luffy is primarily stupid, but he is a combat genius and he knows exactly what he has to do.
One piece is a good show, and I may go and watch it. Yet it is somewhat kiddish, reminds me of pokemon and whatnot lol. But it is entertaining nonetheless. Just not quite the maturity level I'm looking for. I got uber hooked on Deathnote. Thats kinda a solid anime for what I'm looking for, with fighting.
Meh, maybe I'm too picky. :(

Since when did Death Note have fighting? Lol. Unless you mean fighting with their MINDS.
Berserk and Basilisk might fit the bill, though I haven't seen them myself. But lots of people keep recommending them to me.
If you haven't seen it, you might also enjoy Black Lagoon. Although it's mostly gunfighting (though you do run into a samurai that can cut a bullet in half mid-air 0_0), it's still all epic. Lots of badasses running around in a world of crime and debauchery, etc. A great anime that's set for a higher maturity age group (that is, adult). I really liked it, and you probably will, too, if you havent seen it yet.
Actually was refering to the maturity level with death note, but the mind game fights were indeed pretty epic :)
As for black lagoon, I watched a few episodes.. The chick annoys me really bad, and.. well its gun fighting. And its not flashy gun fighting. Its just gun fighting. lol
Berzerk as I said before took a while for me to watch, but I got around to it. Its pretty good. Havn't tried the other you listed, I'll look into it.

oooh a second to that.. it fits exactly what you're saying as far as i can see.. though its not too long
Watched two episodes of it so far, seems trippy.. yet good. :)
Another one I forgot about over the years... Samurai Deeper Kyo. Lots of sword fighting with special attacks (similar to Bleach). The main character is the most feared sword fighter in Japanese history and blurs the line between good guy and bad guy.
Basilisk is a good story and have good fights !!
Bakumatsu Kikansetsu with the samurais but if you don't like to listen the japan's past then its not good . Most part here , they talks .
Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou is good too .
Maybe Koutetsu Sangokushi? I dropped after episode 12 , but maybe for you it'll be good .

Manga is a lot better IMO. Much more clearer than the OVA.

lol. The irony.
"much more clear"
Not being a nazi. Just thought it was funny to use bad grammar in a sentence that talks about something being clear.
Is the manga longer than the OVA?
Not sure about rich story, but powerful main character + flashy sword fighting = Devil May Cry adaptation. Pretty flashy :)

Yeah. Spans 11 Volumes in the original and 8 in the 2nd edition ones.
It's only being released in Singapore by Chuang Yi in English.

You can try Black Cat. The main character is basically unbeatable throughout the anime. Though he seems kinda nerfed down from the manga. He uses a gun, but he also uses it to whack people and stuff. And it's not gunfights, everyone in the anime has a different weapon.
Gah, you saw Trigun.
hmm, how about Texhnolyze.
Chrome Shelled Regios, Layfon is total badass, except he's the decent type.
And there're also other action characters in the series, including females.

blade of the immortal fits your description... but for kickass anime you should watch airgear and tengen toppa guerran lagan however its spelled
yea i just read to your replies on this post and im sure blade of the immortal is somthing you want.. hes immortal for killin 100 men so he will now kill 1000 bad men so he can die... epic fights except hes immortal so u obviously know whose the victor but just the way the enemies look when they stab him and they think hes dead and he just kills em price lesss
How has nobody recommended Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagann when hes looking for a badass main character?
Edit: I fail at reading the post above me ...

Aw man I was just about to recommend CSR too!
But yeah Layfon is just plain awesome. He's not like most other anime characters who start out not knowing anthing. Even at the beginning hes already one of the strongest in the show so its pretty awesome + there are sword fights and energy moves.
