Here are some details on this 5 minute anime, first aired on 3rd April 2009.
Itou Risa's Hige Piyo josei manga will be getting (http://chorus.shueisha.co.jp/) an anime adaptation. More details in Chorus April issue.
Higepiyo is a little chick with a mustache, who is seeking to aquire masculinity with his friend Hiroshi but ends up being entangled with a skin of heated milk.
The josei manga Hige Piyo (ヒゲぴよ) is only a 1 volume long manga.

Slight Potemayo tripping here.
I rather like the art in Higepiyo.... if only they could draw the rest of the background properly too!!
and yes, it's hilarious. The reactions of the family to Higepiyo... hahahaha. Five minutes. Not too bad at all.
Watched this a few days back and its funny . Dont know if it will be a classic rib tickling comedy like Sexy Commando or Ebichu, only time will tell . Hige Piyo reminded me of a GAR version of Ebichu .Out of the two comedy shows subbed Charady's Daily Joke and Hige Piyo, the latter is a funnier and better show IMO .
NOT a manga reader but here is a speculation : In the news they mention a research laboratory , think Hige Piyo an experimental chick from that lab .
( 4.46 onwards)
yeah, it probably IS a chick from the lab.
Ep 2 is even more hilarious. Some of the jokes... they aren't that surprising, but they're extra funny in how the lines are said as a result of the interaction with a uh, chick.
Paku Romi voicing Higepiyo, does sound really cool. ^^

Romi Paku and Yu Kobayashi! :D
Episode 2 Screenshots (http://celestialkitsune.wordpress.com/2009/04/12/higepiyo-anime-is-fun/)
If you draw a 'hige' to the bully he looks like a human version of Higepiyo. A nice entertaining episode, it was fun to see Higepiyo as a hero/protector :heh:

I love this anime already, and the seiyuu choice makes it even better. We've got Paku Romi as Higepiyo, Miyashita Eiji as Papa, Arai Satomi as Mama, and obviously, Kobayashi Yuu as Hiroshi. Instant win, y/y?
Oh my! Topic found!
GREAT ANIME! Pure entertainment! Hilarious! :D
With the role of Higepiyo, we can call Paku the queen bee/ numero uno of seiyus IMHO. I been hearing Romi ever since I was watching anime, but was pleasantly shocked to know she did Hige. Yep as posters already said the seiyu chosen is top notch for this show .

Damn, ep 2 was downright hilarious. I'm changing my grade from "I" to "A".
"Kun!"
WOW!!
I just saw the 2nd episode and I can't stop laughing!
Higepiyo can talk and fight! lol

It's from the creator of Ebich! How can it not be a great anime??
I'm loving this.
Episode 3 was as great as the others! PERFECT!!

I equate this approximately to a roomful of great seiyuu getting drunk and riffing in the studio for a couple of hours... It might not make much sense but you're glad the mikes were turned on.
anyone still following this awesome anime?
I really enjoyed episode 6. Higepiyo making his own home... and his previous owner peeking to see whether he's enjoying life at Hiroshi's place (I never thought the chicken shop owner cared for Higepiyo at all!) It's funny how the school girls find him handsome while he sneaks around, lol.
A fun and cute episode.

I certainly still enjoy it. How can you not love Romi Paku as a gangsta chick?

I never thought the chicken shop owner cared for Higepiyo at all!
Me, neither. I was left with the impression the owner was trying to rid himself of a difficult-to-sell item. The father seemed rather nonplussed about having a stranger crawling around his attic. Maybe he doesn't care as much because he didn't build the house with his own hands?
I liked how the mom figured out how to entice Higepiyo into choosing the items she had available. Smart lady. It's amusing how this show aligns with Chi. We have a family threesome with a male child who gets a rather unusual pet. The fathers are both rather sweet (Chi's oto-san in particular), the mothers competent, and the kids both bundles of boyish charm. Having only one child eliminates the need for any stories about the siblings that would distract from the central animal protagonist.

Higepiyo is Chi's cousin from the wrong side of the family.

07 was full of win. I get the feeling Romi Paku is enjoying the hell out of this job.

Higepiyo's become another child and adult in this family. Child in the sense of how "Mama" is able to handle him, in how he's new to things in this world and can't resist food and such, but is also an adult in his fearless personality, the way he speaks and how he acts like a big brother (but at times, selfish too, just like a human being!) to Hiroshi.
@Guardian Enzo: - I think episode 8 has convinced me to start collecting this anime. But of course, nothing really beats episode 7's onion strategy! That had me laughing so hard.
- The ugly looking Higepiyo look-alike in everyone's hoods.
- Hiroshi running away.
- Higepiyo kicking away "the end" on the screen.
- Kumano and his touching moment with his dad - oh my, this scene is totally wicked, wicked. :D

How in the world does this series not get more love? It's one of the most consistently hilarious shows in ages. The sento ep had me on the floor, maybe because when I visited Japan in March I was so paranoid about all the sacred rules for the public bath...

oh, I'm afraid I didn't get that side of the jokes... so they have pretty strict rules for a bathhouse?
I'm sure there're plenty of people (ok, not as many, but still, some) watching Higepiyo. They just don't feel like commenting is all. :D
It appears that the theme of man is the repeated joke in the series (once again, in episode 10). I'm hoping to see more on different stuff rather than manhood.

It's about those type of samurai honour jokes that we see on anime here and there. Higepiuo takes a lot on these. You could say that it'as a chick with the pride and the honour of a samurai.

Japan does take the bath pretty seriously. All of the ones the old guy talks about are pretty much universal.
On the "man" theme, and just to show how subtle the humor of this show is... In Japan it's traditional for boys to bathe in a bath with iris leaves because it's thought to help give them samurai spirit. Well, did you notice the sign at the bathhouse when Hiroshi was grtting into his bath?
no.. not really, and I don't have the file with me atm, so I can't really check.

really? Do they still use Iris leaves these days? I know Higepiyo's full of subtle humour that a person not schooled in Jap culture would miss out on. I guess that just shows how awesome a show it is. For someone who doesn't know much about Jap culture (me), I can still enjoy this show!

Agree. Even people that aren't that familiar with Japanese culture can still be able to enjoy the anime, at least for it's "exotic flavour".
more "man" related jokes in ep 11, but I won't complain this time. The way the author made that comparison is truly clever.. observing the habits of a "chick samurai" and praising him for having the air and manner of a samurai when all Higepiyo's doing is just BEING Higepiyo. lol.
Some Higepiyo cross overs I came across done by Raishin@ . Covers lot many topics from Naruto OP Bleach and POT . I hope the artist covers more series in the future .

How many episodes will this series be?
Also, why was there a 2-week break for the latest episode?
Is this the first anime parody in Higepiyo?? That gundam launch scene had me laughing so hard!! and the justice scene reminds me of "Kyo Kara Maoh". Wonderful episode here.

Why doesn't this show get more love? I think it's funnier than it's much more popular five-minute cousin, Hetalia. The all-star cast continues to shine, with Tomokazu Sugita adding a hilarious turn as the shadowy figure from Higepiyo's past.
Is this a long running series like Charady / Sanae / Doreamon or has a fixed number of episodes ?
ragnarokr

I have seen the 39 episode number around.
I thought it's 50 episodes. But anyway... about Hetalia, I don't think I can compare the two. They're just equally funny in their own clever way.
Fighting not to be the last! LOLOL. I didn't see that coming at all.
Here comes another anime parody, this time from:
Kenshin!
I think it's like for the first time here that someone isn't mistaking Higepiyo's action. When Higepiyo sits under the water and bears the heat, that really is just for bearing the heat rather than anything else? I don't think (forgot the old guy's name) that he's mistaken Higepiyo's so-called spirit of the Samurai here. :D
Yeah though Higepiyo and H.A.P. are comedy both are like Chalk & Cheese . Higepiyo can be enjoyed by all while H.A.P. is targeted at a specific audience . Also the thing I liked most about the show was the lead character there is something endearing about him .

Any ideas about who voices the samurai duck in episode 25? It could be Paku, but I think the voice belongs to another, relatively well-known, seiyuu; I just can't place who it is. There's some very funny stuff in this most recent batch from Yuurisan. I liked the expression on the father's face while considering the possibility of some "funny stuff" happening between his wife and Higepiyo. The profusion of costumes at the supermarket was also top-notch. This show continues to make us laugh despite its ridiculous premise. While Higepiyo could have become a rather boring "one-note" type of show, it has made Higepiyo into such an almost plausible character that we go along for the ride, laughing all the way. I do find the bullying subplot a bit repetitive, but they do seem to find new ways for Higepiyo to come to Piroshi's rescue.

Makes you wonder whether Higepiyo deliberately comes to Hiroshi's rescue or he just HAPPENS to pass by while aiming for sweet potato or Yakisoba or whatever, sees Hiroshi in trouble so he rescues him?

Au revoir, Higepiyo! Perhaps we'll see you again in a sequel.
Personally I think Kumano-kun should be required to eat the entire grand prize!
