i use a a mac g5 (os X), and have bought a few japanese important DVD's..

as i am in England, my normal region setting is 2, and to watch these japanese imports i need to have a region 3 player... the mac's drive is *able* to read all types of dvd, but is limited so it can only read the dvd region you tell it you wish too. once set, you shouldnt be able to change it.

so, i have my dvd region set to 2 so i can view standard DVD's... when i put in a jap import it asks me if i wish to change my region to 3.. BUT... it says i can only do this 4 times until the drive is locked to that certain region code.

i know there must be a way to convert the cd drive so it is 'region free'.... there must be a crack/hack/script out there to get round this...

anyone know how to sort it out???

cheers!

I thought Japan and England were both region 2. Maybe you didnt get a real japanese import.

UK is region 2.

Japan is ALSO region 2.

Region 3 is China, Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, basically most of Asia except Japan.

Japan is Region 2 as is the UK. Areas like Korea are Region 3 I believe.

Look at this region map, and you'll see. Japan is NTSC however, while the UK is PAL. That doesn't matter to a computer DVD-R drive though. You cannot make a DVD region free, nor can you make the drive region free either.

Yes, both my country and the UK are the same DVD region 2. The only difference is that you use the PAL broadcast system while we use the NTSC system.
