Hi all,

Recently I've been really into martial arts/fighting anime, and I've seen quite a few. Right now my newest favorite would be Shura no Toki, about 3 generations of Mute (unarmed) fighters. It was quite enjoyable, and I'm looking for things that are similar. Some titles that I've already seen are the obvious ones: Hajime no Ippo, Rurouni Kenshin (and OVAs), Kenichi, Samurai Champloo and Samurai Deeper Kyo.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? I've probably seen most of them unfortunately, my only guideline would be I didn't really like Ikkitousen, so things along those lines aren't enjoyable (in terms of fighting anime anyways).

Thanks!

* Tenjo Tenge : Stylish martial arts anime dealing with school life . The Character Design are sweet and there is a strong plot / storyline . The anime is a must see and no way convoluted as Ikki Tosen.

* Flame of Recca : A must see classic which has gone on to inspire lot many anime . Here the emphasis is on martial arts as opposed to fighting . Weapons spells are also used in this anime with bare knuckle brawling .

* Baki the Grappler : A hard in your face martial arts anime . This anime is all about fighting and nothing else . The anime is raw and hard hitting literally . No cheap frills or just hardcore no nonsense fighting .

* Fist of North-Star (2008) : GAR as it gets , another no nonsense fighting anime . The subbing isn't complete and its still ongoing/stalled . It as good and measures up to original. The character deigns IMO are better than the original.

Bamboo Blade (HS Kendo) and Peacemaker Kurogane (Meiji era Shinsengumi) would be great choices.

Thanks, I'll start checking them out. Tenjou Tenge seems interesting so far.

I have one!!

1. Hunter X Hunter-the fighting system in this anime is a bit different but i just love the fight scenes ( especially the bone breaking/arm twisting/super reflexing..its amazing). But in order to get to the really cool fight scenes, you have to get past some episodes first. the fun stuff starts at ep 3 or something. 12 year old protagonist with great five senses.
2. DBZ-XD
3. Air Gear- kinda like tenjou tenge but with roller blades.

I forgot that I've seen Air Gear, but I really liked that one as well. In fact, any sort of Yuu Yuu Hakusho-esque animes are pretty fun I think (at least through the dark tournament arc). That said, from what I've seen looked up, Tenjou Tenge is kind of lame :/, it just sort of ends and Souichiro Nagi never finishes a fight, plus the tournament they keep talking about doesn't really happen in the anime from what I've browsed :(.

I'll keep looking through the recommendations though, thanks for all the input so far!

hehe XD...just like Tenjou Tenge, Air Gear "just sort of ends". Its quite sad that "this" keeps happening to this type of shows...HxH does the same too..sadly T-T.

Another one i'd like to recommend is Avatar, if you haven't heard of it...its not an anime. its not from japan at least..but if you like quality fights and interesting dialogue.. Avatar is amazing. its about this kid who fights this nation and stuff..hehe

I would also recommend Avatar. Technically it's not anime but very similar. If you can consider it an anime then it's a very unique one.

It starts of a little kiddy but improves a lot as you go on.

I had a lot of free time today, so I marathoned quite a bit heh. I finished all of Tokyo Majin Gakuen, and overall it was good (though that type of ending sort of annoys me, but not much can be done about it I suppose). I'll keep going through the other recommendations here :).

The Kara no Kyoukai movies.
Currently 5 are out.

KnK has stunningly beautiful animation, great story and awesome martial arts action with some fantasy.

Sword of the Stranger is a movie too, but it has some of the greatest sword fights I've seen. The last battle is really great.

D.Gray-Man is my favorite action series. It's a 104 episode long shounen, but give it a try. It gets better and better. Good animation and story, likable characters and awesome fights.
unlike most shounen, DGM has a dark feeling to it.

You might like Samurai 7 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=3127), Fate/stay Night (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=5394), Soul Eater (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=9070) and Basilisk (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=4318). If you find the descriptions interesting make sure you watch a least a few episodes of the series I mentioned because personally I didn't find the first episodes of those anime very interesting but they get alot better after that.

I'm going out on a limb here and suggesting Kure-nai (http://www.animesuki.com/series.php/1192.html). There's an hilarious martial arts episode in Abenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade, too.
