I guess all of us here are M-type people. We kept getting trolled and we keep coming back for more. :heh:
Some people have more faith than others I suppose.
x_x I can get trolled 10 times and no more
So this is going to air in like 7 hours?

Incidentally, I noticed in my Pixiv account that there's a Tanabata theme going on. Given Tanabata's significance in Haruhi, I'm sure those who overthink much will jump on THAT too.
I'm preparing some DESPAIR to share with you all later.

Actually, you know what's the cleverest thing KyoAni could do at this point? Just proceed into September 1st (Sighs I, or whatever) without immediate proper explanation! Open with Kyon soliloquizing "September the 1st! Whew! So, the technique the four of us hammered out to break Haruhi's loop HAS WORKED! YAY!" - and leave viewers wondering what it was!
Then, only later - either later in that episode, or more daringly, several episodes later - have some excuse to bring up in conversation (e.g. between Kyon and Itsuki during one of their board games) what the technique was.
By this means, KyoAni would have achieved the terrifyingly powerful emotional rollercoaster ride of "no ending, bad ending, bad ending" in the same amount of screentime - 3 episodes, OK plus a tiny bit extra for the soliloquy-and-conversation-as-aftermath - as the "no ending, bad ending, good ending" that so many here say they'd have preferred!
Anyway, we'll find out how KyoAni play it in a few hours, hehehe... :D
Gods.
That would be most frightening.

Fucking A man.
Just arrived at work. Seeing this thread makes me sad. All I have is a pot of coffee and a cup of hope. :<
So, I'll be lurking here.
Live update thread? I guess I'll watch more Buffy and then go to sleep. Hopefully when I wake up there'll be subs. Mazui (Maizu?) usually has it subbed by wakeup, or midday in my region.
people watching live streams should ready there speech later on and see if it's still like that
people may reveal the answer to this thread if it keeps up getting looped
if it doesn't and KyoAni decided to show the solution , I'm sure there'll be alot of flamings done later on :heh:

The Land Down Under? Crickey.
Also, it's "Mazui." Got it right the first time.
AND THEN WE GET ANOTHER LOOP :D
UNTIL! SUMMER ENDS! That is the only way to stay true to the series.
Sighs will come when autumn kicks in.
Dissappearance will come when winter comes :D.

I predict that, no matter what happens, someone somewhere is going to rage.
I predict that, no matter what happens, someone somewhere is going to rage.
That would be me.
Because I read the novels, and there is absolutely no way this justifies 4 episodes. They're not going to satisfy me no matter how well they pull this off. THEY CAN SURPRISE ME if they pull another episode though, but that would just make me bleed red tears.

Or, they could make what stops the loops epic a la Light Yagami (Complete with Ominous Latin Chanting)

Well I've been known to be proven wrong all the time.
So if they truly do manage to rip a hole in my brain this episode, I might actually cry tears of joy.

I never read the discussion thread before seeing the actual episode, but i'm going to check close with this one just to see if it's going to be another day of despair or if the sun will finally shine.
But i have faith. 1 is good, 2 is awesome, 3 is too much. Kyoani can't be dense to keep doing it. We already got it the message, now it's time for Kyon to kickin some Haruhi ass and get everything normal again.
Well I've been known to be proven wrong all the time.

The first season is known to rip holes in brains, and I cried at the end of Melancholy VI. But always have low expectations, and you'll never be disappointed.

That's really true. I had no expectations at all with Transformers 2 and i still feel that it wasn't good. Well, since my expectations right now for Haruhi is to see the same episode for the third time, i guess in this case, the actual product can't be worse than my expectations.

I was checking the 2ch thread and the art somehow looks a little bit different... More reminiscent of K-On, I guess.
We won't know anything until the episode is over.
I'm hungry, I'mma get lunch.
Also: Yukata scene.
Haruhi has her hair up in something that isn't quite a ponytail.... /huh/.
So how many of you guys here are watching this live at the moment?
I'm almost amazed at myself - I don't think I've ever anticipated an episode so much before, whether or not the loop ends! I didn't really mind the repetitions for the past three episodes, and found it quite a nice 'live' experience as compared to the one-off novel setting, but it'll be nice to see an end to this.

Wow Mikuru's hairstyle this week is gorgeous *_*
God...why...
5 episodes of Endless Eight, that's 100 minute worth of animation. That can basically rival a typical anime movie. If they were pulling a Kara no Kyokai with Haruhi the world would end.
Are they trying to develop Yuki's frustration with these episodes? They're probably trying to make us feel frustrated just like Yuki, and hate Haruhi for it.
I'm not gonna rage until I watch the subs. There's definitely something different they put in this episode.
KyoAni is trying to do something, or tell us something. We have to work together to solve this mystery friends!

This episode was way better than the last one. If it weren't in such an endless cycle of shit, I could actually appreciate it.
Anyway, I heavily doubt they're gonna end it next episode.
Impressive how a studio can take such good source material and only churn out bullshit.
Edit: If this (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2502964#post2502964) is true, I don't care about this show anymore.

Well that's what I originally thought too, but it wouldn't make sense in a business way because that just burns away a lot of money. Kyoto Animation might actually have the balls to do it because whatever they burn away will come back from all the sexy figurines and what not they're going to sell. But I don't think television stations would allow such a waste of broadcasting space. Besides that would literally make the entire season endless eight.
Thanksfully my time is loaded with Canaan and Umineko and a HUEG novel + anime backlog + the need to level up my skills in EVE Online so I can fly what I want to; and some dogsitting for a sibling. See you in August or september, Haruhi fans. :D
You don't understand, nothing can replace Haruhi. Just like how Gundam can't be replaced by Evangelion. Just like what I learned from Honey and Clover, no one can replace another person! NO ANIME CAN BE REPLACD BY ANOTHER!

At this point, I'll be disappointed if they don't go for eight episodes of Endless Eight. They can't not do it after what they've put us through already now.
Seriously. Now that they've gone this far, they might as well see it through the end.
Anyway, this is simply hilarious. I wonder what Kyoani is really thinking spending all this time and money reanimating the same episode over again. There has to be a limit to trolling, unless they have a lot of money to burn.
Of course, the mere fact that people are still around here to actually rage at the series means that it is still drawing the viewers. This speaks volumes about the effect it's having.
For that, I give this episode a 7/10. This one was better than the last one, for sure.
Please don't jinx it :upset:
They can do 6 episodes for broadcast, and make another 2 for the DVD.
Not jynxing it, just being happy with what KyoAni gives me.
There are actually a few things left that the anime didn't show us that's in the novel.
I believe that the loops will not end until we see Yuki's weightless effect and Mikuru wearing a goldfish Yutaka.
Anyway this episode has nice hairstyles. Haruhi without hairband is win as well.
But I don't think television stations would allow such a waste of broadcasting space.
It's broadcasting past midnight on every station it's airing on. Remember also that in Japan that things work a little different here, and the networks are paid to air many of these shows, rather than buying the rights to air them. I highly doubt the networks really care.

There are actually a few things left that the anime didn't show us that's in the novel.
I believe that the loops will not end until we see Yuki's weightless effect and Mikuru wearing a goldfish Yutaka.
Anyway this episode has nice hairstyles. Haruhi without hairband is win as well.
I was kinda surprised with that. Haruhi without her headband just isn't Haruhi at all.
And a disheveled Mikuru, and Haruhi below the clouds during Koizimi's speech, and the movie and Nice Plane. :heh:
If the Endless Eight episodes do take up the planned number of episodes for this season as I suspect, then the only way they can gain my forgiveness is if they straight up animate the next episode with nothing but porn.

It's broadcasting past midnight on every station it's airing on. Remember also that in Japan that things work a little different here, and the networks are paid to air many of these shows, rather than buying the rights to air them. I highly doubt the networks really care.

Enjoying. Every. Second. :D I wonder how the producers are laughing at our anticipation while following the 2chan thread...
Besides, how certain are you guys that this run will only be 28 episodes long? Was there any official (non-leaked) announcement? Do we have an announced or speculated show taking over this timeslot on the 29th week?
New content will be out when it's ready. L2wait. I've waited three years, you've waited the same (or less)... what's another month or so?
Another one? Seriously?
Were there any significant differences this time round?

That it does. (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=2502964#post2502964)
If this is true:
1) 6 E8 eps is a fucking idiodic idea. 3 Would have been fine, and I wish they did skip 4 & 5.
2)They didn't mention BLR....
3) So, around 5 episodes for Sigh if the Mikuru ep is 1. That's also idiotic.
4) No Disappearance = Kadokawa witch hunt.
Let the hunt begin!

No respect, and a desire to see the property go to a different company.
You don't understand, nothing can replace Haruhi. Just like how Gundam can't be replaced by Evangelion. Just like what I learned from Honey and Clover, no one can replace another person! NO ANIME CAN BE REPLACD BY ANOTHER!

Guys, even if this is on purpose, looking at it as simply a work of "art" or something funny isn't the right way to see it at all. This is either lazy, or a money sink. They know better than to shit out the same thing every week, and they know what they are doing wrong. This is obviously because something ridiculous happened. Who at KyoAni seriously thinks that hardly anyone is going to buy the DVDs? This isn't a troll at all, this is behind-the-scenes incompetence at work. People are being way too optimistic about this, and I would say that we just ditch the season before saying anything else about it. Seriously, an earlier post stated that some of you guys would defend this anime if they showed a still shot of a jar of mayonnaise for 30 minutes; I don't find that hard to believe.
Even sub groups are starting to drop SHnY. Mazui is doing Spice instead now, which after one episode is already proving to be more interesting than this sack of BS.
Thing is, it's not really being done 'fast'. Not only is it probably all done already, they're reanimating the entire thing each time.
Fast as in they don't need to think, and bother spending time on scripts, VA, etc...
Oh animating an episode every week is expected, that ought to be the bare minimum of any animation company, it's even easier when the episode has so maaaaaaaany stills in it to pad out their time.

I really doubt the accuracy of that post.
I mean after all this mother fucking trolling to the nth degree from trolls on planet tollton, it is without a doubt that Kyoto Animation are great at story-telling (especially adapting novels and translating them on the screen.)
When I mean by translating on the screen, this includes art direction, voice acting, animation and most of all pacing and build up.
As we can see from Season 1 of Haruhi, the way they organized the episodes wasn't only because they wanted to troll, it also helped develop the characters and save the climax for the last episode. To give us a big pow to the face.
Although I'm raging really hard right now, I can actually see that E8 can serve as an extreme build up to Disappearance. If it actually is so, it is actually doing really well in that context.
If what I predicted is truly the over-arching plan of Season 2, then E8 is only a tiny portion of that plan, and so far it's keiikaku dori.

Until the DVD sales results are out, I'm quite certain this will not be selling well or anywhere as good as the 1st season.

What I don't understand is that they've been trying this "experimental advertising" and "presentation" for the series since season 1.
They've already trolled enough with "cancellation of season 2" in order to correspond with "Disappearance". That was already 3 years worth of trolling, they really don't need to pull this E8 crap out, especially when E8 wans't event that satisfying of a story in the first place.

In order to make this work in the end,
there would have to be ominous latin chanting in the background while Kyon is doing his homework, complete with a chorus swell everytime Kyon makes a stroke of the pen, epic potato chip eating, and the FF fanfare when Kyon finnishes :D

I think it's times like this that I'm starting to appreciate animes that go strictly accordingly to their source, without coming out with their own ideas to be "unconventional" and disrupting the viewing pleasure.
Or maybe it's because I've already seen the source (i.e. light novels) that I'm really feeling jaded. Maybe if I didn't read that (and put it into pdf and reread it again and again), I'll be more happy with what they are doing right now and praising Kyoani/Kadokawa to the sky.
Incredible.

Cursing the origin of the material (in this case KyoAni/Kadokawa, since we're talking about the anime, and not the light novels) is a common human reaction to the lack of understanding for what is intended here.

Agreed, which is why I said earlier that this might all be a build up to Disappearance, and it is doing its job.
That is IF IT IS. If it is I can see how Season 2 would be an extreme emotional roller coaster of love and hate and end with love.

When the crew was catching cicadas, I wanted some kind of godly ending to occur, like you were saying. So immediately, I imagined Nagato losing it: "aaaaaaaaaaaa!!" *view of treetops and hills with birds suddenly taking flight*
Haruhi: What was that? Did you hear someone scream?
Of course, that kind of epic event would be totally out of canon, but hey, KyoAni has made things so tense that any dramatic change to canon of any sort could easily reach epic status.

Nope, I'm done here.
Not wasting my time with this shit.
At first I was upset with myself when I realized I'd forgotten to watch the stream of this episode. After finding out that the loop still hadn't ended, I felt better. Because I realized that I hadn't missed out on anything. And I wouldn't have missed out on anything if I'd missed last week's episode, either.
Somebody call me when they start Disappearance (or maybe Sighs' best scene, if it looks like they won't get to the former). I won't be watching any Haruhi until then.

For example, what if they sold all x Endless Eight episodes in a single set for the price you would normally pay for 2 episodes, in which case you could see all the middle loops almost like bonus features? Or what if they sell the discs at the price for one episode even if it contains two-episodes worth of content? I mean, sure, if they sell the episodes in the way they sell other episodes, then I agree that the sales will probably suffer. That being said, there are probably ways they could do it that wouldn't seen very offensive to purchasers. We'll see what they do.

Unless you were to specify a time-frame for it to be released in. What, you think Orihime and Hikiboshi are so weak that they can't send the granting of wishes back in time? They just usually don't do so because most people don't ask them to.

Actually, joking aside, if they actually released them at 3 episodes/disc, and assuming there are 6 episodes in total not 12 (so only 2 discs), that'd be cheaper than the way they usually release Haruhi episodes (which would be nearly that price for 2 episodes). I would think they'll do better than that, but it's not outside the realm of possibilities.

I'll admit it, I stared at the poll first before the episode, and realized the truth. :heh: And my stupid theory about them trying to send a message that they don't want to do Haruhi anymore suddenly makes more sense. It makes them money but they feel enslaved to it!! So they are just trying to show how Haruhi is a great way of printing money but also draining on the soul. Since the episode contains nothing, I feel compelled to make up crap in its place, as humans always try to make sense of things. Ehh... ok it's not working.
I will go by my post in the previous thread and hang around for one more episode. It's still not enough to make me quit ^^, but it definitely has done some damage here to what I view of Haruhi; not that it really matters of course, but I'm not surprised if there was a fan in Japan who didn't want 4 episodes of the same thing.
i/10, it's just too incomprehensible to rate, but since that option doesn't exist, 1 will have to do.
edit:here's to eight episodes of Endless Eight!

I downloaded a horrible raw version, watched it without reading the thread whether it's another loop. When it got to 3/4 of the way, and they were still at the park explaining the loop...
I don't know how pissed are the fanboys on 2chan, weirdly, I'm not so pissed. I only read the volume 1,3 and 4. Lets just wait till the DVD sales come out.
The way I see it, we're still in the 'ok, what the hell is going on' stage of this effect.
It's pointless to judge the effect until it's finished up.
So, we'll see what people are saying about Endless Eight in a few more weeks, shall we?
13 or 15 years ago, I thought that nothing would top Eva's "Doodles on the screen with Shinji's voice" or "Stillshot of one minute while Beethoven play" in term of WHAT. Now I am here. Of course, now I am older; so I am not as gullible as I used to be. Thus, rewatching the mentioned scenes now leaves like ".....". And I could say the same about Endless Eight right now. It may have worked on me if I was still enthusiastic and easy to impress cinematographic-wise as I was at age 13-15. But not here. I just humbly take as it comes. What I enjoy is seeing predictions thrown out of the window.

That sort of thing WORKED with Eva, though...
And here, if they abused imagery like that with the flashing text and doodles I'd praise them, because it would be mindfuck and interesting. But just animating episodes over and over is just... bah.

I don't now whether I should laugh my ass off or punch my laptop screen in rage. This has to be the biggest trolling I’ve ever witnessed a studio pull off in my time of watching anime!
I’m not even going to bother wasting my time watching this (like the previous episode) again in fact I’m pretty much dropping Haruhi until Endless eight actually ends for good.
God knows how Yuki stayed sane going trough this 15000 times in a row.

Maybe some things were simply not meant to be. Like Disappearance.
I can hardly imagine another studio just picking up on the show (if that is even possible), so I'm just gonna give up on Season 2.
Would have been great.
If they are going to do this they should do it for the whole summer. No point in halfassing a meme, GO ALL THE WAY. I can't wait to see this episode animated again and again and again and again and again and again and again. It will only end until no one watches this show.

Then they are really going out of their way to do it man.
First they have an extreme viral marketing scheme for the past 2 years. Then they have Haruhi-Chan with all the hints for season2, especially the ending dance song.
Then they have to spend the money to animate every episode of endless eight and bamboo leaf rhapsody.
If they're realling doing this to punch us in the face then they're basically stabbing themselves in the face, financially.

They don't have enough slots left to pull off 20 episodes of Endless Eight (not with a 28 episode block and four original episodes left to show for their "re-run").

is this about taking all those who said they'd rather see kyoani animate more haruhi then watch clannad and giving them the middle finger ?

Truth. This man speaks it.
Now I wonder where are those 38 posters that gave episode 4 a perfect score?
So 5+ episodes of a boring short story (which is a personal opinion), probably no Disappearance and Haruhi character designs progressively mutate into the 4-panel crap that the studio produces lately. KyoAni obviously targets only extreme fandom, since however bad their shows are they will still buy the DVDs anyway. It's a piety really, I had a very good opinion of the studio a couple of years ago, but with Key-obsession and 4-panel moe-blobs it degraded gradually and the final straw is this abomination, after all *bleep* that Kadokawa put us through.
This season has a lot of excellent shows and none should waste anymore time with this sad story.

Agree totally.
But like I've said countless of times in several different threads, is that the way they are doing this they might actually pull it off with a big bang.
The reason is because all the new episodes so far serve as the building blocks required for Disappearance. The way they're pissing us all of would ultimately make Disappearance a much more emotional wild ride, which I hope would enhance the experience.
Assuming of course my prediction is correct. Maybe they really are going to just E8 it out and bankrupt and no more haruhi.
They've made Haruhi into an immersive interactive experience, which on some level is a break through. We'll probably see more studios do things like this now.
EDIT: Oops I totally missed the other part of your post...
Well I guess my point still stands, that you have to admit what they're doing now is a breakthrough. It's bringing things in a new direction taht they've never been before. Whether or not that's a bad thing for the franchise or the industry as a whole is remain to be seen. However what they're doing is creating a lot of sparks, and those sparks are literally "inspirational material". Going in bold directions, failing and retrying, reinventing, etc etc etc is what we all need in the entertainment industry.

Yeah, my bad. I can't seei Kyoani putting the bulk of these episodes on any DVD. Most people would likely just not consider it worth it and resort to pirating HD video's from online. The best way to minimize the loss from DVD sales from having so much of endless 8 in it, would likely to spread the episodes out through all the released DVD's.
I'm not really pissed about this, merely perplexed. None of this makes sense from a marketing perspective, since all it does is cheapens the value of the product that Kyoani will have to sell on the DVD. They're not doing it for the fans, since the fans are royally pissed...it's almost like all the paranoids who said that this was all just an elaborate way to troll the fandom on the part of Kyoani.

Well in my prediction, all this E8 crap is going to count as one broadcast or two only. I know that's probably impossible but I still feel like this is all part of the plan. Sighs does serve some purpose in Disappearance, it does develop Kyon's perspective of the SOS Dan which contributes to the events in Disappearance.
I DO think Sighs is essential in the over-all formula of the series, mainly because it'll make Episode 00 A LOT LOT LOT LOT MORE enjoyable. The effect of Mikuru Densetsu would benefit so much from Sighs, and since this is a reboot to season 1 where tehy fill in the blanks. That's a blank they must not miss.
I personally think the DVDs wouldn't even be any of these 6 episodes. It'll be an entirely new Endless Eight, where they take scenes from each episode and reanimate them, then give them a new loop number. Then connect it with the episode that finally breaks the loop, so at most 2 episodes on the DVD.
That's just a wild guess, but assuming how much edits production companies do with DVDs these days it's not impossible. Some DVD versions of the anime aren't even the same thing anymore.

It all depend on how attractive the extra content is.
You know what pisses me off the most? That it's such a fantastic adaptation when they actually want it to be.
We could've been treated to a wonderful new season of Haruhi, filled with brilliant and entertaining episodes. When they decided to fuck around at the end of the second episode, they harmed that. At this point, it's completely and utterly ruined.

That doesn't really make sense. I mean, making 5 episodes for an animated TV show isn't cheap. You're only gonna do it if you think it's gonna make you money. Since Kyo Ani doesn't get much (if any) money for simply airing the episode (since they have to buy airtime) their sole source of profit coming directly from the episode is DVD sales.
Why would Kyoani produce five episodes that didn't give them any money?

That doesn't really make sense. I mean, making 5 episodes for an animated TV show isn't cheap. You're only gonna do it if you think it's gonna make you money. Since Kyo Ani doesn't get much (if any) money for simply airing the episode (since they have to buy airtime) their sole source of profit coming directly from the episode is DVD sales.
Why would Kyoani produce five episodes that didn't give them any money?Because Kadokawa and the Production Committee are the ones funding the anime, not Kyoto Animation specifically. The Production Committee pays for the airtime, pays Kyoto Animation to do the animation work, and handles all the merchandising. Kyoto Animation may get a portion of the proceeds of each sale, but they get paid something for their work regardless. So it's the producer/publisher that absorbs more of the risk, and so if they tell Kyoto Animation "we want to order <x> episodes of Endless Eight", the studio basically says "okay, whatever you say, boss..." (Perhaps not in those exact words. :heh: )
Btw, are you claiming that rage is unjustified at this? That we should just lap up all the bullshit thrown our way? Accept that we're not going to see stories adapted simply because they wanted to play silly buggers?
I'd honestly love to hear your reasoning as to why.I don't mind that people express their discontentment, obviously. What annoys me is that certain posters feel they must reply to every single post and express the same rage endlessly over and over and over again. Maybe there's a certain irony in this given the content of these episodes, but it's no less annoying here than it ostensibly is in the show. All the surface-level rage stuff does is just encourage more of the same endless whining, particularly when it's the same people who tell us over and over again that they're through with the show in so many different ways. At least if people could come up with something new to say...
One wonders when they animated all these episodes. If they've been doing these since 2006, just having different groups do them on their down time between Kanon, Lucky Star, Clannad, Munto, and K-On. Sort of the "keep the artists in practise for Haruhi" episode. While they'd still have to pay for the screen time, they might have gotten the work "cheap" due to it being made over a considerable period of time.
Not that is makes a whole lot of sense, but it would explain a few things about why there are so many versions of this episode and why it is animated differently.

And explains why they reused the clouds from "Clannad After Story..." :D
EDIT: That would episode 12 of After Story... :)

Maybe they're trying for another plot-related symbolism(ish) thing? They already did the "three years ago" thing, and now they might be trying to produce something with the same effect.
The three years gave everyone time to speculate and make fan-made things, though. That was okay. This is just getting on my nerves.
EDIT: 'Kay, nevermind, I'm wrong. Whatever.
