Seriously I would wait a bit until psp 2 has been announced. But I have also to admit that I have the PSP and the PS 3 already :)
The PSP Go has been announced for quite a while, man... granted, it's not all that dramatic a change, but...

A pair of siblings who are at helm of the Gallian Revolutionaries. They are namely Bartoren(?) (VA:- Midorikawa) and Audorey (?) (VA:- Kawasumi) of Gassenar(?) Household.
And you miss out the most important info at hand. The Game will be out on 21st of Jan. Those who pre order the game will recieve special PV, a soundtrack and a code to unlock a special guest character.

They're kinda dressed like Imperials, interesting.
January 21? A bit past the original Q4 2009 date but delays USUALLY lead to fixed bugs and stuff. That means it's about a 6-month turn around for the translation, that's good.

Wishful thinking. If there's any hint that she is, they should at least gave her the trademarked huge bosom as well as engage Ohara back.
But... the 1936 stuff?
Just another fancy name. Think "Document Of Gallia 1936" for the entire preorder package and "Gallia Journal 1936" for a cheap looking booklet featuring reused promo material complied together.

Coolies. Here's hoping that guest character is Marina.
For some strange reason, though, I think it's gonna be one of SEGA's characters. Please don't let it be Sonic...

You know that would be amazing. Admit it.
Actually, it wouldn't. It would be awful.
I mean, Sonic hasn't exactly had a good game since his Dreamcast days. And even though he's constantly trying over and over again, his game just hasn't been improving.
His presence would kinda foul up the VC experience, IMO.
I beg to differ. Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games was a phenomenal game, on the DS. :D

Still not liking the anime presentation(brings awful memories in my mind lol) and i'd rather have the old style back...
Apart from that gameplay has been improved, music gave me goosebumps, the aprt with the ad hoc mode was great and finally the samurai-like class near the end was awesome .
I think the anime style is more due to engine limitations given that the PSP has nowhere near the rendering power of the PS3.
That being said I had to repeat the footage at around 1:45 before saying "No no no no no no!"

S/He-It looks like an Uber version of the Artifical Valk that was discuss earlier. And the name Dirk points to that person being a weapon. I wouldn't be surprise that, under the mask, it will be some one we knew.
Anyone up for an amnestic Faldio ?
EDIT :- Latest Info suggest that Gilbert is voiced by Banjo Ginga and Dirk by Soichiro Hoshi. This is rich now. Gundam fans will be in for a wild time. Ghiren Zabi commanding Heero Yuy and Kira Yamato aganist a good half of Celestrial Being.
Not to mention that the main female antagonist had been Profiled as Valkyria skilled in Sabering before.

There's also wires attached from the drill into the armor. I'm not sure, it could be a "Power Armor" or a "Powered Exoskeleton." Firearms had already made medieval suits of armor obsolete. BTW, wasn't the new Valkyria voiced by Haruka Tomatsu who also voiced Meliena Vashti from Gundam 00 S2?

The new villains in this game aren't from the Empire but Gallians. They are a group of Revolutionaries who want to overthrow the Gallian Government & start an Ethnic Cleansing campaign against those of Dasrcen descent.

Well also because Max was just using the Gallian Invasion Force to acquire the Valkolf and then build his own army up using Gallia as base to later take on the Empire and conquer of all of Europa in the future. I'm pretty sure that the soldiers who were loyal to the Empire and or Emperor would not have happily gone along with this.

Purchasing the game was set in stone from the very beginning, but that's still a great incentive for those who loved the original and wish to see it back on the consoles. If you truly want to support the series, then you know what you have to do now. It's true what Aaron Webber said though, I'm just happy to see the series continue.

That release date is for the Japanese version I am assuming of course, so now comes the choice of pre-ordering the Japanese version for all the nifty extra stuff. There's a possibility that all the bonus stuff will also be made as pre-order items or a special package for the U.S. version, but it doesn't seem too likely. At the same time, importing is expensive, and I don't want to have two copies lying about. The tough decisions that SEGA puts me through sometimes.
You know that would be amazing. Admit it.
I'll gladly admit it, Sonic would be the only Scout that I would use.

Maybe i'll play this one even though i didn't play the ps3 version .

Halbert? Looks more like your average over sized anime sword, in which case they might have based the idea off this guy. (http://www.damninteresting.com/any-officer-who-goes-into-action-without-his-sword-is-improperly-dressed)
On the new antagonists, no real complaints apart from armor-guy looking a tad silly. But if his armor turns out to be Maximillian's experiments pushed further, that'd make him a nice tie-in.
I'm a bit in conflict over the old man's sunglasses. One one hand, they look cool. On the other hand, he looks pretty damn cool without them too.
And plus its a VIDEO GAME. Most of your characters are resilient to enemy fire and can take a few hits before going down. Most of us including myself have tried Combat Knife only run in COD4 and COD WAW with the exception of using firearms when only the plot dictates (e.i. taking out tanks and sniping). It was hard especially at higher difficulties, but not impossible.
As for the Antagonists, in VC we fought against a evil Emperor Lelouch and his Witch. I have a feeling we'll be fighting something along the lines of the Zabi Family from the OYW. So Sieg Gallia?

From what I saw of the weapon there was a clear section at the top which was a black/dark grey colour, and the rest was a light brown. So it may well be a sword, but to me it looks like a polearm. Probably a naginata or however you spell it.
Actually, the majority is a silver color, with only the hilt being dark brown:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Liinna/argument%20stuff/sword.jpg
Clearly a sword. A ridiculously oversized sword, but then Japan always has seemed to be of the opinion European weapons were large and brutish.
I myself am more pleasantly surprised that it seems to be a girl wielding that thing.

Out of curiosity, but has there been any news about changes in the point system? I had hoped they would change that glaring weakness, and reward tactical actions (such as giving points for flanking the enemy, hitting them from behind, targeting their weak spots, using grenades and flamethrowers for dealing with units in cover, capturing all points and clearing the map of all enemies) rather than how fast you can run towards the final flag.
JagdPanther
2009-09-28, 07:31
I'm not sure you could reward some of those things. It'd be too hard to calculate (like flanking the enemy). Perhaps more points for shooting them before they notice you, though (the blue line indicates that they don't know you're there).
It's actually quite simple, flanking can be calculated by the route your characters take (do you take the bushes and sideroads, or charge straight through). Direction is already in the game (enemies you shoot from behind don't shoot back, remember?) so adding points for that is simple. Targeting the weakspots is also easy. You'd get more points for hitting a tank's radiation then you get for hitting it several times from the front.
Grenades and flamethrowers on units in cover is pretty self explanatory. As is capturing all points and clearing the map of all enemies.
The finishing touch would then be to lower the score for the amount of turns you take to complete it. Not remove it, of course, but I always found it ridiculous that the only way to get an A in a tactical RPG was to make a blind dash to the goal, sometimes straight through enemy lines, throw a grenade or two, and capture it in as few turns as possible.

No, enemies you shot from behind or from anywhere out of their sight angle would panic (sweat lines would flash above the head) and the accuracy of their return fire was lessened.
But I too would like to see some of the improvements you've mentioned.

You must've quit the action immediately after firing. If you do it fast enough you can prevent return fire, but they'll still lob off interception fire if you don't quit the action after attacking from behind.

Jann:Ohh hush you.
With the limitations on what the PSP can do, the makers made a reasonable & understandable choice of using anime cut-scenes.
Even though i can never forgive on how the anime adapted the games storyline, at least the animation was good.
Jann:I didn't think it was that bad.
That's because you got a lot lines to say in the anime.
Jann:Are you jealous? Somebody needs a hug.
I don't need one. BTW is that Largo carrying a box of Vegetables?(Secretly runs away only to be kidnap by Marina & Catherine)
Jann(Oblivious on what's happening):Largo!? Where?! OH LARGO!! JANN IS HERE TO HELP YA!!
Agreed. Game engine rendering for cutscenes like on the PS3 would take up processing power that the PSP just doesn't have. Having it run a movie file is what it is capable of.

*sigh*
WHY is this on PSP?
The Academy idea looks so terrible. If I wanted a slice-of-life setting I'd go watch one of a million animes. The first game was a very good war story with lots of human emotion and human story elements. This is... I get a bad feeling that this'll be something like a typical school anime with guns.
I why do I have the feeling that they might make the VC Anime the "Canon" of the VC storyline?
The original VC ended with Welkin and Alicia as a married couple with Isara looking like a 3 or 4 year old little girl. The problem is, VC takes place 2 years after EWII where a civil war takes place. The ending of VC1 felt like aftermath of EWII and not the Civil War. When the creators planned this ending, I didn't think they were planning a sequel at that time. The VC anime kind of retcons that instead of taking place presumably 4 years later. Also, Max's GN Lanc- I mean artificial Valkyrur Lance and GN Shie- I mean Valkyrur Shield looks more compact and it didn't depend on multiple generators on the Mamorta. This will probably serve as a prototype to the new soldiers with some kind of Power Armor that the GRA possess

Erk. The anime changed so much from the game's storyline for the worst, I sure hope not.
Besides, that would mean making quite a lot of side character's death cannon and that'd be hard to swallow. Like Vyse, Wendy and Musaad. (not to mention Knute, Mica, Nils, Rosina, Hermes, Salinas, etc.. Herbert and Cezary can die though)

I don't see how it negates the VC1 story at all. Honestly, EWII could continue on even after the events of VC1, and could be over by the time of the VC1 ending. It's just that the Imperial invasion of Gallia had come to a grinding halt.
It would've been very possible for there to be a peace accord with the Empire -> two year gap -> civil war -> end of VC2 -> ???/VC 3 (against the Federation perhaps?) -> shown VC1 ending.
As for the whole generators thingy: the anime team are lazy. What, you thought there was a deeper meaning to that lacklustre final fight? Pfft.

I checked Gamestop and the release date for North America is June 2010...wow....I can barely wait.
I have no problems with the setting and what not...I mean if you didn't go WTF when Isara said she took tank repair and driving class in High school... a military academy isn't that far off.
Maybe it's because I've played persona series that I don't mind school setting.
Plus the TGS trailer has ad-hoc multi-player, I am looking forward to that...and the sword slash..if lancer can do that it would be awesome!!!
The PSP probably go with PSP because it's easier to render anime than the CANVAS engine in good quality. And since the game was made by the original team, not the anime team..hopefully we can avoid some of the things they did in the anime.
The development team made it clear as explain by someone quite a while ago, that they are sure they are making it as a direct sequel instead of AU setting..So don't have to worry about that.
Although some people are not happy when SEGA said they'll consider future VC games set in console if this one sells well. Well as a VC fanboy..I myself are very happy at the news..
I can't wait for his game, but I love my PSP. That and my DS are pretty much all I play anymore.

I'm glad this game is coming out for the PSP. I don't have a PS3 (but I may buy one when more games for it come out), and well this is the perfect chance for me to play the game. (Watching it on youtube just isn't the same....)
Really more people have the PSP than the ps3, which making a psp release is good for marketing. You'll gain more money if you sell it for something more people have. Also even though psp games are 30-40 $ and ps3 games are 60. More people having a psp would make up for the 10 or so $ loss.
It really is a good move to move it to the psp. Also on top of that I read that they might make a console version. (If they did that then they would make a lot of fans happy, bring more fans in, and they could make twice the money. Pretty smart move really.)

Here's some sad news for some of you VC1 fans that i read from wikipedia:
However, with the intense fight against the Empire having left Gallia's regular army in an exhausted state, there is initially little to stop the insurrection from gaining momentum. Laws preventing the formation of a national militia to fight fellow Gallians force the government to deploy military academy cadets to the front lines in order to combat and defeat the GRA forces.
In order words, don't expect playing anyone from VC1 since the Militia can't get involve in the civil war.

I see the reasoning; those are good points.
One of the game's strongest, best points was "the look," the graphics. Moving to PSP totally kills that point.
Why would you move DOWN the scale of video game systems for the next major installment of a series?
If they bring it back onto PS3 eventually I'll be happy.

Well, the graphics looks good compare to other PSP games, and if they do the cutscene in anime...it's be pretty crisp and clear. The gameplay while definitely not PS3, can hold its own.

Against full blown treason with the declared intention of killing your ruler, that's absolutely farcical.

Looks like some great stuff, especially near the end.
After doing a bit more digging on the site it seems like they've replaced the Engineer with the Medic class, but the Medic class still hands out ammo while doing healing like an Engineer... making me simply ask why?
Also, Lancers have lost their awesome armour for some pitiful gold plating gunk, and the lances themselves look like the cruddy designs from the anime. D=
Edit: Also, looking at the characters page http://valkyria2.jp/character.html
Does anyone get Anime!Faldio vibes from the secondary character on the far left? The pose strikes me as an arrogant ladies man character. Guess we know who the main character of the VC2 anime will be...
Edit2: In addition it looks like they will be showing a bit more of the serious repercussions of war and how it affects those participating. Should be good if they don't go too overboard/emo: http://valkyria2.jp/mov_character02_02.html
Edit3: Also, who said that there wouldn't be any people from the militia back? http://valkyria2.jp/mov_character03.html
Think this might mean we'll see Jane pop up as the Drill Sergeant's assistant? Also rofl at calling the trio "A Team".

I have a bad feeling about this game; not gonna lie.
They really do look like they're making a high school slice-of-life with war as a side-dish kind of game. The dude with the glasses looks like the consummate class president, the other guy is the cool kid, and the girl is the one they'll fight over...

The Academy idea looks so terrible.
Considering this academy was already present in VC1, I suppose that game was terrible as well?
By the looks of things, especially that last clip in Terrorists post, this game is going to focus on what really happens when you send a couple of kids to the front line. VC was all happy heroic, this game, rather than slice-of-life has a much, much darker setting than the first one.

Makes me wonder why they refer to her with the same title as they do an engineer in VC1 though.
As for why, the answer would seem quite obvious. She's a support class. Besides, 'healing like an engineer' makes it sound as if healing was engineer exclusive. It wasn't.

Remember the armor upgrades that are to be in this game?

Um... the academy wasn't present in VC1. At all. Ever.
The training grounds you use were not the academy.
There may be some dark stuff in this game just as there was in VC1, but too much evidence so far suggests this will be more teen angst romance than war story. Basically... the anime.Makes me wonder why they refer to her with the same title as they do an engineer in VC1 though.

No, but engineers did have the ability to heal up to 100% health, unlike other classes. That's probably what "healing like an engineer" means.

I think most of people shut their sense off when they hear the high school analogy. Any of you ever surprised or think it's a little weird that : Isara took tank driving training class and maintenance class in highschool? Or that Aisha is, 12? and most of the recruits average age around 17 and most other members certainly is younger than 20.
plus a Military Academy isn't all just focus on fighting...otherwise are you saying that military academy like West Point are a beef-up highschool?
The clip only show Cossette healing, the kanji for the "medic" reads "Support Soldier" which I thinik if I remember correctly is what they are also called in VC1 and the english translation is "Engineer"... plus there might be only things the unit is capable of doing.
by the way, the voice for the red-haired main guy sounds really familar...but I can't quite get a hang of who it is.
Thanks everybody for the update though....I wasn't even aware there is this much info out already....totally made my day.

Well the 2 male leads used to be voiced in Gundam 00. You can probably guess who they are.
I would be impressed if they put in the Medic class to split off the healing support from the Engineer class. Engineers in VC1 could clear obstables and mines, repair fortifications, and had more grenades than anyone else, but you were pretty hard pressed to use them in an offensive role like a real assault engineer, since they were so fragile, and were more useful for healing your mates.
Also could be interesting if instead of having a Medic automatically evacuate a casualty, you have to actually move the the Medic to them.
I also wish that tanks wouldn't get instant killed with a single shot to the radiator. Sure, they can still take more damage to the rear, but instant kill made tanks a bit of a joke on the battlefield. It'd be a more rewarding challenge if you had to think more about approaching a tank problem.
Um... the academy wasn't present in VC1. At all. Ever.

Because they totally teach tank engineering and squad command in high school. Right.
Seriously, where else do you think the VC1 cast learned all that? This academy existed in VC1 the moment Isara and Welkin mentioned their specific lessons.

I actually prefer that to the happy-happy joy-joy mood of VC1 (for example, I never liked how Welkin seemed to shrug of the death of Isara in the game. While the anime did go a bit over the emo-end, at least they did something with that). Don't get me wrong, I do like happy stories, but if you're trying to emulate war, then include the bad as well.

I kinda want them to take the typical "war is hell" approach, but that was something the designers actually wanted to avoid according to the interview in the artbook. They said something about wanting to use the 3rd engine for something 'pretty' instead of raw and ugly-i.e. most other combat/war related games. Oh well, too bad for me :p

In the trailer for VC2 you can actually see blood, and Cossete expression is pretty dark. I guess they are trying to strike a middle ground? I just hope they don't end up doing crappy for both.
The English voice for the scene didn't really sound too surprised, but the Japanese voice added some more sense of urgency...I think the anime expend on some event while downplay others so I think it's best if you view both to get the most out of VC universe.
Is military academy really such a foreign idea? I thought it's pretty normal to have military academy.
By the way engineer's large ragnaid heals somewhere around 250 or 300..which is most soldier's full HP but sometime you can't heal full to a badly wounded lancer which has around 400 or so HP
Because they totally teach tank engineering and squad command in high school. Right.
Seriously, where else do you think the VC1 cast learned all that? This academy existed in VC1 the moment Isara and Welkin mentioned their specific lessons.
At school. What part of "madatory milita training for all children from primary education onwards" doesn't compute for you? They couldn't send every student of Gallia to this single academy. They couldn't even occassionally send students across the country to this single academy for one-off lessons. They would have to run the training programs within their regional schools or else it would be pointless.
That being said however, this academy seems a lot like what you'd get from a 1950s version of West Point, Sandhurst or Duntroon. Taking the "best and brightest" and turning them into the future elite of the Gallian military.
That and I think I read on one of the clips that the academy is 200 years old.

Compulsory military lessons at their individual schools.

Not sure I agree with that perception of Welkin.

Yup. Even if someone is at 1/XXX health, an engineer will heal them to 100%.

Nor can they give tank engineering at every single school throughout a country. The amount of tanks you'd need to yield a proper experience rate would be insane, and that's excluding the tanks they would also need for the actual army.
This academy answers the 'lolwut?' question that arose when Isara mentioned she took a tank engineering course at school.
Come to think of it, do they specifically say this is the only academy of the type? I could imagine several of these throughout the country.
Not sure I agree with that perception of Welkin.
Yet it's not far from the truth. Did Welkin even cry at all in the game? How sad was he? How long? There was her death, the funeral, a bit of "Isara would be happy" by the plane, and then... nothing.

A country that size, probably not many if more than 1.
Furthermore, it could very easily be that certain schools teach certain things well, just like in real life. Some schools are known for their engineering programs while others are strong in the social sciences (on the University level). Even some private prep schools are strong in certain areas.
And you can work on a mock-up or train on something less complicated. Besides, at least for Isara, it's pretty easy to get experience; she has a friggin' tank in her home.

But he was also a military commander and I thought they handled his reaction to her death very well. He wasn't uptight and d*ck-ish like he was in the anime, but he still carried out his duties. The war didn't stop for one guy to mourn.[/quote]

Regular schools can teach you the general basics, but not the specifics. Not unless they specialize on the subject like this academy does. Regular schools can most certainly not teach enough to maintain and hop into a tank as if its second nature, same thing for command or any military training, really. You'll need a specialized school for it, such as this academy.

I did say the anime went overboard with the emo, but Welkin shrugging it of like he did in the game felt far more unnatural to me. The least they could have done was give him a coming-to-terms scene like the Bruhl scene in the anime, something that really made it hit home that Welkin has lost his sister. Not a squad mate, but his sister.

Normally I'd agree, but then again this is the world of fiction.
And that still doesn't explain how this is coming off as a typical anime high school romance/comedy/drama with some war themes thrown in.

You can pretty much join military academy fresh out of highschool right? welkin was actually like 21 in the game which is quite old, so I think if we put them at the age around 18 or so, it's not necessary a highschool setting. unless you are saying since it's anime it has to have a high school setting???
and I like it way better if it has romance/comedy/drama...that's what sets this game apart from other.
If I want grit and dirty war experiences, I would play FPS or watch Band of Brothers...

The difference being is that Welkin is an officer, and judging by the very limited sample size of Welkin and Faldio we have from VC, like in real life, you probably have to have a 4-year degree to be an officer in the VC-verse milita and military. We don't know for sure if Varrot has a college degree but I am going to go out on a limb and say, "yes, she does."
The high school setting would be more akin to an enlisted training facility.... i.e. boot camp.
The original VC definitely did have romance, comedy, and drama, but it was clearly not the main idea of the game. The more important facet was the war story, through and through.
cloner4000

Right, the focus is on war story, but the game story also focu a lot to develop Welkin and Alicia's relationship. I haven't seem any other RPG in recent memory that has go this far and this explicit to show a romantic relationship between main characters. most game have either implied, or non-existent.
Lots of new stuff on the website and the blog. In particular, we've got a new main cast character. Dunno her name, but she's likely the "hot-but-cold-blooded-bitch" type. Sort of this game's Rosie.
There's also another TGS video, but it's just explaining the gameplay basics. Stuff any VC veteran should already know.

Jokes aside, not much eyecandy this time. One or two of the ladies, depending on your tastes, and the guys are... not really all that special.

Not sure. The class has a different icon, but the characters address our blond haired medic with the same term used for engineers in the Japanese Valkyria Chronicles.
If they have labeled them medics, then they seem to be the engineers replacement, as the last slot was taken up by this new class (http://valkyria2.jp/mov_battle05.html), which seems to be a close combat class, explaining the claymore we saw in the trailer.

I say Jane might be the most likely one to reappear. I mean, she did become a new Drill Instructor so...yeah.

According to the class page (http://valkyria2.jp/battle01.html), there's only five classes. And yes, I agree that the armored trooper class detracts from the shooting setting... It's my biggest gripe with the game so far. I like the semi-WW2 setting, and this edges it closer to the standard fantasy setting. Not to mention the class seems ridiculously overpowered right now, I mean, being able to shrug of two shocktroopers and a tank firing at you? Without any buffs?

You mean the ones form the official VC2 website? Yes.
The site is just downloads the video but unfortunately they didn't put a pause button in there. So you'll just have click the video, go do something else for about 5-10 mins while the site downloads & plays the video and come back and click the video again to see it with no jerky interruptions.

Snipers are still around ;) just watched a video (http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-09-valkyria-chronicles/57776) and at around 2 mins 24 it shows the sniper class in action. No idea why the class is not shown on the official site
*shrug* Equipment upgrade for the scout, maybe?
Snipers with scout mobility. Hmmmm.
I believe there was some info in the past that said that there would be a LOT of classes to choose from. I don't remember exactly where it was from, though.
Maybe they'll input a promotion system ala Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, or something like that. That'd be pretty cool.

Maybe they'll input a promotion system ala Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones, or something like that. That'd be pretty cool. They almost did have such a promotion system int he first game; it's just that they merely became "Elite" and not all classes got a tangible advantage beyond a significant stat increase when they got there (Lv 11). I wouldn't mind this idea, but I wonder how the leveling up would work if there were choices as to what classes each squad member grew into upon level up. Do we know anything about leveling up? I hope it's the same... I loved not having to level everyone separately...
I might be mixing things up here, but wasn't there a mention before about class specialization? This could potentially be that class specialization then, couldn't it?

That would solve a few things, I think, like...
Engineers could specialize in Medicine, becoming amazing healers to the point that they can revive people on the spot? (No turn of waiting if you're met by a Medic Engineer!)
Shocktroopers could specialize in Melee, allowing them more attack and defense power at the expense of range? (Wonder what would be the counter to a unit like this? A grenade?)
Lancers could specialize in crowd control, and actually be good at it for a change? (Mortars weren't all that useful in VC1.)
Scouts could specialize in Recon, gaining movement points at the expense of attack power? (They'd actually live up to their name, and be all about information!)
Ideas overwhelm me :eyespin:

Ah, thank you!
And as I saw now on the 'Battlefield' page they had still 4 "???" buttons down there so there may be still 4 pages of unrevealed classes left.
On another note, they made it clear in VC1 that there is some kind of 'Geneva Convention' in the VC world too, so it struck me a little strange seeing the medic girl running and around blasting people from behind. :heh:

My thoughts exactly. They didn't even change much from the RL version.
Although the FT-17 was a revolutionary design in WW1, in the VC2 time period it feels really obsolete. Kind of an odd design choice, but it's not like the average game player will care ^^

Well Gallian Tank aren't known for their prowl in battle..they are a bit better than imperial light tanks, but any thing bigger can dominate the battle field. I guess they try to go with this impression. 2 year for a recovering nation is not going to have any innovative design for tanks. Not to mention fate of Edelweiss is quite unclear in the end of VC1 if it's sitting in the garage or up in flames with marmota.

The aristocratic Juliana Eberhard. Class UnknownI may have found out Juliana's class type. She's likely one of those new shield-users. My guess is such a class is anti-infantry, but suffers against tanks, snipers, and (supposedly) Valkyrur units. Basically, anything that goes boom.
Here's a link for why I think this:
http://rpgland.com/news/valkyria-chronicles-2-new-scans-info/
This one also suggests that character supports are much more diverse, and could potentially be up to the player (ala Persona series). That's sure to cause some shenanigans.:p

This week's update introduce us to the producer of the game who says to Edy that she might be amongst the subcharacters in VC2.
As stated earlier, the game will be in a school setting, so the focus will be on those students. But this does not mean that all the characters will be youngsters and teenagers, there will be students who are veterans and older folks.
And finally, we have stages that will specifically center on certain characters as well (Think the Largo,Rosie and Eleanor chapters in the 1st game.)

It's just a reference that since there will be about 200 missions to attend to in this game, they will seem "endless".
And before people scramble to make their preorder for Selvaria, take note that she will not have Ruhm in this game. Moreover, the preorder bonues will be in limited quantity that will spread out to only a few retailers, so it's not a given that those who preordered will be recieving them.

I can't read or understand Japanese so not really sure on the finer details and some info may not be 100% correct. I've only had a quick go but to me it seems like the same good formular. If you're familiar with the first game you can quite easily jump into VC2 demo. There was a playable tutorial mission and a kind of skirmish mission.
The controls took a while to get use to, I would run towards an enemy press R trigger to enter aiming but instead I have just rotated the camera and I'm being shot at. The square button now enters the aiming mode and also changes equipment while in this mode. The left and right triggers rotate the camera and the triangle and X button tilt the camera. Circle is also the action button for crawling, kneeling against cover and climbing etc
In terms of characters you have the 3 main people (scout, shocktrooper and medic), a sniper, 2 lancers, another shocktrooper, a tank and there might be more, I can't remember. Most of the characters are the ones revealed already. The medic AP is quite short and her equipment consists of just her weapon and ragnite.
The mission is spread across 2 zones. I'm not sure if I'm doing this right but the only way I found to travel across the zones so far is by retreating in one zone and recalling them in the other zone. Unlike VC1 when I called reinforcements they appear instantly and you can control them straight away.
I'm not too sure the affect the morale causes. Overall I'm quite happy how the BLITZ battle system has been adapted from the PS3 to PSP. The demo mission did seem rather easy, your troops seem to be able to take interception fire, a sniper with what seemed like a single dot accuracy and the ai was not very adventurous. Will have to try again to make sure I wasn't just lucky. I'm pretty sure the difficulty will change in the real game.

Look likes the Scout Rush is still the main criteria for S-Ranking the mission. I took 6 turns out of 20 to eliminate all enemies on the map before taking over the rally points and the game award me a C. I shall make an attempt for a scout rush to half the timing and see what the game has to say.

Is there a place to download the Demo or is it from Japanese PSN account?
Is the medic same role as engineer? or is there no obstacle to clear so we can't be sure exactly yet.
I think it's just for the demo, the tutorial for the PS3 also did not deal any real damage to you. But once you get to three or four if you are not careful you can die rather easily.
A new update was made to the website today, showing a lot of the new roster (though the secondaries don't have character videos). That's definitely Edy I see in the crowd, unless she has a twin sister.:D
There's also an video of the BLITZ system in action. Looks like they kept all the details from VC1.
The blog also got an update. Dang, I was hoping Edy would come back to it...
About the new classes, I agree that the new Armored Trooper does feel out of place. The ballistic shield is fine new additional because you often see these in other tactical shooters like Rainbow Six, SWAT, and in Modern Warfare 2. The default melee weapon looks kind of awkward looking almost like a Tomahawk. Normally you see soldiers or SWAT Teams with riot/ballistic shields carry a high powered pistol, SMG, or a Shotgun. I can see the Armored Trooper was designed for heavy close-quarters combat, rather than for an open field battle. Personally, it would have been better if the Armored Trooper was equipped with a shotgun with an optional bayonet to look more realistic. After all, in other games the “Shotgun” weapon was sometimes the high tier weapons that can cause incredible damage at close range and even take out multiple enemies in a single shot. Using a melee weapon is an interesting concept, but odd design choice but we'll see what direction they're going eventually.
cloner4000
2009-11-09, 01:30
As long as it doesn't get overpowered so that you can just run straight into enemy line and whack them.
After all, that is the job of the shocktrooper where you run into through enemy fire and use your submachine gun or flamethrower to knock out target. It's like the two roles are comflicting with each other a little.
Well, we'll see when the game out or more videos..the scout was said to be broken too. but it's all up to how a person uses them
I kind of feel like the Armored Trooper was designed to be an "Aggro Tank" similar to SWAT tactics where the guy with the shield would draw all the attention and gunfire towards him. Ultimately, the goals of a shield operator are to protect himself and the other members of his team especially in areas with little to no cover and close the distance between him and his enemy. I can understand why they opted for a melee weapon because its just too cumbersome to carry, aim, and fire a rifle or SMG using just one hand accurately. And a pistol isn't exactly powerful compared to a melee weapon at close range.

LMAO
I have NEVER heard that analogy made. That was good. :D
I don't suppose anyone has played COD: MW2 using the Riot Shield? Even though its a primary weapon, some people consider it to be very broken because it can stop almost all small arms fire and its almost indestructible. Not only that, you can use it to bash someone to death in just 2 hits and it can even ricochet bullets back at the enemy. Being a primary weapon means you won't be able to equip primary weapons like assault rifles, SMGs, light machineguns, or sniper rifles. Only secondary weapons can be equipped but nonetheless are still very powerful such machine pistols, shotguns, and duel wielding pistols or machine pistols and even sawn-off shotguns. The Riot Shield also has weaknesses. It can be destroyed along with its user with a Semtex Sticky bomb and flashbangs leaves the user vulnerable for a headshot.
Hopefully our Armored Trooper ain't going to that broken.

Thanks to the usual suspects I've seen footage of this thing in action. Sure, it's practically indestructible, but folks who consider it broken apparently aren't thinking it all the way through (see also: people who insist on referring to mated GLs as 'noob tubes'). As you note, a Semtex charge will make it and its wielder go bye-bye (this should also be true for rockets), and flashbangs create a handy albeit brief opening. Also, you can always lob grenades behind them (how many times have you had to do this to gun emplacements and so on in VC?). If the area is open enough, your teammates should be trying to flank the 'train'.

Highly unlikely, but what if SEGA thought there was something worth salvaging for Ramal, and actually made him a decent character for this game?

Hey you can use throwing knives with the shield too, you know. Makes for some pretty awesome kills. Wait until the enemy empties their magazine and rather than rush them for a bash just throw your knife.

So, all the enemy needs to do is throw Molotov Cocktails at it?

Got the demo today, and one major thing I've noticed is that the Support Troopers now have a different weapon rather than sharing a self-loading rifle with the Scouts. Not only that, the AP they get has been reduced further. There IS one thing that's throwing me off, and that's the new weapon. It seems to look like a carbine, but somehow the game lists that class' weapon as a "PISTOL" O_O. So I decided to split the difference and consider the weapon a Pistol-calibre Carbine.

A pistol caliber carbine? Are we talking about something similar to the M1 Carbine which fires a .30 caliber carbine rounds that look almost like a pistol round? Come to think of it, the M1 Carbine was often carried by other service troops like engineers, medics, mortar crew, radio operators, and even Sergeants and Officers. Also the M1 Carbine weighed about 5 lbs (2.5 kg) empty and for those of who carried and held various firearms, the M1 Carbine is extremely lightweight. Maybe the ammunition the support troopers are using is the 7.92mm Kurz (short).

knife throwing is just funny, I've seen my friend getting double KO from throwing knifes and knifing the other guy. But it would be hard to implement it in VC2 though, since it's not really an FPS.
Ramal is a nice character..I think...beside the fact I still don't know his purpose in the end..I almost thought he had one, but it prove me wrong.
Anyway, it's a welcoming sight to have old characters. I love Cameos.

Wait... the Demo's out? What reigon, or all reigons?Just Japan. Well, I should clarify. Since the PSP is not region locked, it is possible to get the demo to work on your PSP no matter where you are... the issue is that it's only in Japanese. If that doesn't stop you, I say you should download it and play it. you can connect it throw the cable to USB, it's the type that's common for most digital camera and stuff, or if you have a memory card slot for Sony. you can probably drag it to the game or iso folder.
thanks for the link though..I was wondering where you can get it.

Easiest way is to use a USB cable to hook the PSP to your computer (something like a mini 6-pin to USB, I think?). Drop the demo folder into the Game folder on your PSP. There's a diagram on the demo download page.
And yeah, playing games in Japanese...either you figure it out, or you find an online guide and babelfish it. I got through Ar tonelico II this way, and plan to do the same for the third in that series.
Website just updated. We now have a hot science prof to add to the cast (or something, she wears a lab coat). Dunno her name...
Also, a somewhat awkward cutscene got added to Avan's profile. I facepalmed at seeing Cosette restrain him from doing something stupid. Again, can't determine what was going on.
Last is an update on the BLITZ system. It's now got all three videos up and running. Stuff any VC veteran should be familiar with, I'd think.
Last but not least, another blog update. Something about it made Avan look like a baka.:p

I think you're onto something. A translation of her profile, albeit a crappy one, seems to indicate that she's an expert on Valkyria, science-wise. That, and she has old ties with the Empire.
So yeah, maybe she IS the scientist who raised Selvaria.

I thought Einstein's Theory of Relatively gave birth to nuclear weapons? And wasn't he also the inventor of the Chronosphere and Prism Weapons? While the Soviet's Tesla weapons were obviously derived from the work of Nikolai Tesla.

Since I don't know a word of Japanese, do those letters/characterse appear in this Edy-Clone's name?
Not that it would really actually say anything about it, since the names "Mikhail" and "Miles" have letters in common, and are totally different. I'm just weeding out possiblities.

My Japanese is about on par with my Afrikaans, but from what I can make out her name is Ri(something)Risu, with "something" most likely being "yu" or "ko".
My bet would be on Riko Risu.

Hmm theres a resemblence to the last name Nelson and Edy's appearance *lol complete with the hair ribbons*...prob younger sister since she's an academy student..maybe...prob where Edys sense of rivalry comes from, since siblings do tend to try and outdo the other one.

If Edy's character wasn't so annoying to me I'd agree. If I was just "meh" about Edy, I think I'd find that a good thing.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm quite a bit less than "meh" with Edy. However, I figure I can just ignore this new character and pretend she pretty much never existed like I did with Edy and let her fans take care of using her. I'll never complain about people liking certain characters (as much as I don't agree) and throwing in the option can't hurt as long as I have the option to not use her. Or hear from her. Ever.
New update on the website. Got a video that takes a look at a few of the new classmates, and at some Scout evolutions. Check it out.
We also get a video showing our heroes getting their asses handed to them by an Artificial Valkyrur Corps. squad. That's not good...
I was kind of hoping the sequel would get away from the Valkyria thing, but if there's an Artificial Valkyrur Corps that doesn't seem to be happening... Oh well. I guess with Valkyria in the name there's not much of a choice, is there?

Damn. Due to my own musings, I've equated Artificial Valkyrur Troopers with Tesla Troopers. AGH.
Looking at the new voice actors, looks like the academy is the grassroots foundation of a war intervention group...now we got Anew coming back...too bad Setsuna and Lockon are out hunting a certain rogue prince in the desert to help CB fend off Gihren's super gundam generals.
Today's update is taking awhile to properly finish... The blog entry has been uploaded, though. Can anyone translate it?
EDIT: Update is finished. There are some new character videos, for Cosette (umm, her video is... weird), Zeri (sp?), and Juliana (whose still a bitch).
We also got a look at Shocktroopers and their new evolutions (the Gunner branch looks good for hitting lots of enemies at once). Also confirmed, it's not Edy in VC2. Her name is, humorously, Licorice Nelson. So she's definitely a relative of Edy's.
People, start peeling over the info.

Wow...so Cosette is afraid of blood and the smell of it and can't do her job as a medic...understandable, you can train forever in class, books and other things.
But nothing could prepare her for the reality of her job in a time of war I guess. Poor girl, too bad Fina, Mina and Gina weren't around to help her, they were pretty confident medics.
and Juliana (whose still a bitch).
Clarification. Bitch in all of the best ways, or bitch in a horrible, more reminiscent of the "C" word way?
Come to think of it both of those sound pretty awesome... Wasn't really a Selvaria fan though, so unfortunately I'll still probably be pretty meh on her. Hopefully they'll come out with another equally bitchy woman to fill my needs.

That reminded me of a naming kerfuffle in a different series (SHUFFLE!). One of the characters had a twin named (officially) Lycoris, but due to the usual ambiguity that is romanization, she was rendered Licorice in some fansubs (According to TVTropes, anyway. The ones I saw had all the proper names).
I noticed they also refer to the class as "Shocktrooper and Gunner." It looks like the Shocktrooper class will finally get to wield REAL machine guns that fire actual rifle cartridges instead of those shitty 9mm pistol rounds. I guess that would entitle them as Support Gunner or Squad Automatic Weapon User. They seem to be also carrying a ammo backpack, kind of like wielding a deployable MG42, Browning M1919, or a M240 into battle. I also see that they carry a tank on their back when wielding a flamethrower.
I wonder when will they be able wield real Assault Rifles, not the ones that fires 9mm. I also wonder can their weapons be given other attachments other then flamethrowers like a shotgun attachment or a tactical scope similar to the one they put the StG 44.

Bonus points if the backpack doubles as an extended magazine, 'Panzer Cop-style' (http://www.actionhq.com/store/images/Kerberos_JinRoh.jpg). If, on the other hand, they're meant to be VC's analogue of RA3 Peacekeepers, they'll need a good shotgun...

Given how much in terms of mechanics is inherited from the first game, the answers there would be a mix of rewards and upgrades.

Or at least give us a shotgun attachment on our SMG/Machine Guns for clearing houses without setting it on fire. They got Flamethrower attachments with no backpack fuel tank so why not shotgun? Come to think of it, why the hell did we stop using flamethrowers in modern day conflicts anyway?

Ethical reasons, and the fact that modern day conflicts take place at too long of a range to use a close range weapon like a flamethrower.
