I've been looking for a new anime to buy, in the mood for a Romance / Drama type currently. Action / Comedy in it are welcome as well
A few to list that i've seen similar to this genre i'm looking for are
Mai Hime(Otome), Chobits, Mahou Sensei Negima, Love Hina,

I'm more-so looking for a Drama / Romance serious-type. But a fun one is welcome as well =)

I would have to recommend Toradora!

Best one in my opinion.

Clannad and Clannad After Story is also really good.

Maison Ikkoku is more of a romantic comedy, but it has some drama in it. And the romance part is top notch.

Kanon 2006 seems to meet your needs.

Please Teacher
Please Twins
Lovely Complex
Itazura na Kiss
Maison Ikkoku
Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances)

All of these are well executed romance/comedy/dramas and I highly recommend them. I havent seen Kanon or Clannad yet but they're so heavily recommended that I'm thinking about picking them up. =)

Take a look at Honey and Clover.

Haak beat me to it...

I recommend Clannad and Clannad ~After Story~ with a rating of 9001/10. It is very comical, but also very serious at times. After you watch it, if you like it, try Kanon 2006 and Air, as most people that like one of the three like the other two.

For an anime that uses cute catch-phrases...I suggest you just watch the original Japanese dub. I can't imagine the English dub doing it any justice.

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Tsuiokuhen (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=73)(Romance, Action, Tragedy) and Byousoku 5 Centimeter (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4568)(Romance, Tragedy, Contemporary Fantasy), Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=3573) are one of better known Drama/Romance animes but they have little correlation with Mai Hime(Otome), Chobits, Mahou Sensei Negima, Love Hina.

In recent years Ef ~ A tale of memories (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5274), Myself; Yourself (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5435), Romeo x Juliet (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4832) have been noteworthy releases in Drama/Romance genre, though Myself; Yourself is little more than a mediocre anime, Romeo X Juliet tends to end up on few peoples hate list if they try to think it as an adaptation of Shakespeare play otherwise its a fine series and Ef ~ A Tale of Memories ~ has eccentric ways of conveying story which throws off some viewers.

True Tears (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=4325) and Clannad (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=anime&aid=5101) have been most noteworthy romance animes in recent years with mild drama elements.

Since you will be buying the anime based on recommendation, you should read their reviews before spending money on them. Reviews can be found on Nihon Review (http://www.nihonreview.com/), Myanimelist (http://myanimelist.net/reviews.php), Anidb.net (http://anidb.net/perl-bin/animedb.pl?show=main).

There is a comment thread (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=59061) for Kanon dubs. You might find it helpful.

It's actually pretty decent. Some scenes turn out even better in the dub (Like the scene where Yuuichi asks Makoto to get her porn)

I don't doubt you, seeing as I haven't seen the dub but it usually doesn't catch my attention. I feel that if someone prefers dub over sub, then I'm in no position to say otherwise. Most American VA's don't give the right emotion to certain characters. Still, Kanon is a must watch for anyone whether it be dubbed or subbed.

I would have to recommend Toradora!

+1!

But also, try Zero no Tsukaima and Full Metal Panic. These are both all 4 categories - romance, drama, action, comedy. Library War also fills all 4 categories but with more emphasis on action and drama, less on comedy.

School Rumble is romance / comedy / drama, and very good.

If you want a painful-sad romance/drama, there's also Koi Kaze. Rather... extremely potent, and some people will be turned off by the content, but exceptionally well-crafted. I give it a rare 10/10.

Saikano is in the same category (painful-sad romance/drama) but I have not yet seen it (but expect it to be very good).

And Rozen Maiden is extremely good, romance/drama/action, but it is rather unusual in that half of the characters are animated dolls.

I cannot vouch for the English dub of any of these series; I've never heard one that was any good.

if you likes Love Hina you might want to watch Ah! My Goddess.

Yeah, most of have been said. I too, say True Tears & ef - a tale of memories for a more series tone. For one with more humor Clannad & Toradora are great.

If you want to watch a movie, check out Tokyo Marble Chocolate. Told from the girls' view then the guy's. Really great watch.
