View Full Version : Baldr Force
Err does anyone play this?
Know how to get more weapons for my mech?
The little dinky peashooter needs a replacement for survival mode..
or are the weapons unlocked as you play more?
...
How the heck did you unlock survival mode if you don't know how to level up your weapons? You need to complete all 6 stories for you to unlock both survival and hell mode.
ANYWAYS
I guess I'll explain.
In the main story, as you do damage with a weapon, you gain experience with that weapon. Actually, thats not 100% true, as long as you use the weapon in a combo that does damage, that weapon will gain some experience. The more you use a weapon, the bigger the bonus to the weapons heat (which means it takes less heat to fire, and allows you to chain the weapon into bigger combo's). Once you get enough experience with a weapon, it'll level up. That basically means it becomes bigger, does more dmg, fires more missles, etc. Highest level for a weapon is level 3.
To unlock other weapons, you need to get certain weapons to a certain level. Basically, all weapons avialable to unlock have pre-reqs. Force crashes are different, you obtain these by meeting certain goals, such as beating genha, yagisawa, or bachelor in the different challenges, beating all the virus' within 1 min of the time limit, etc.
When you play survival mode, you'll be able to chose among the weapons that were unlocked in the primary story. You won't be able to change your loadout in survival between matches, so make sure you chose something good. Also, when you start survival, all your guns start at lvl 1, but they have an increased rate of leveling. Unfortunately, you can't level your gun in survival mode past what you've gotten it to in the main campaign.
And that about covers it.
My question though, is how you managed to get survival mode without playing the main story. Both survival and hell modes can only be played after the final story is completed, because the matches involve killer spoilers. Only guess is that you got the game from someone else who had already completed the game, in which I would suggest you empty the save game folder and start from scratch. Much better that way.

On an related, but different topic, I'm currently working on a translation patch for baldr force... it won't be done any time soon, but I want to see if there's any interest in such a patch here. I'll make the perliminary patch with the translation for the first chapter available soon. Anyone interested? Anyone want to help? :P

YES! YES! ABSOLUTELY!! :D
Anyone want to help? :P
Errr... :(
Don't I wish I could. I don't know programming, and I haven't even memorized all the Hiragana characters yet... -_-

I'd be interested in something like that. The only help I'd be able to lend would be x86 help I'm afraid.
I'm making progress on the patch, albet rather slowly. Being able to modify the games script was hard, but I found someone who was able to help me. Now its just a matter of translating the script and patching the game. As I said, I'll release a test patch as soon as I finish the first chapter or two. Still looking for people to help out... maybe the NNL people would have an interest? I atleast gotta ask if I can use thier subbed intro ^^.
For those at all interested...

He could have went to a game save site like sagaoz and grabbed a 100% save file. Why work for your pr0n when you can get it effortlessly? [/lamer] :)
ahahahah
yeah
i beat the game once finishing all of, if no most of the challenged then decided i liked the blowin stuff up better than the pr0n
so i snagged a savegame and started on survival, but still only have maybe 1/4 of the total weapons available
incidentally, i played baldr neko force before this
heheh
so how the weapons level up and are used is pretty familiar to me

Because the game has very good gameplay, and an engaging story, both of which you can't get with a 100% save game file :P I really liked the games story, and I think the story and gameplay tied togeather quite well. You have to beat all 6 stories in order to see everything tie togeather though.
To be honest, the survival mode sucks, I don't like battling to match 200 or so and then messing up and losing everything. Baldr Neko Force is better if you want survival mode (although thats *all* baldr neko force is. Hell mode is far better, but you won't finish many of the hell mode matches without having played the game through. I mean, I still have 4 hell mode matches to complete (The S class battles are a biatch). The easier S class battles, like the double leviathan or the three final bosses at once I doubt could be done without alot of practice. Heck, it took me countless tries, and I have over 50 hours put into baldr force so far :P
well, my understanding of japanese is really bad
i can only recognize a few characters and can only understand perhaps half of the dialogue
but when the ecchi scenes roll around i can pretty much read it all - あ あ あ
hahahhahahahahahahahaha
yeah...i would have like baldr neko better, but i like the almost pure mech combat in baldr force better
but popping some missiles at the SD characters in hell mode is quite fun too
I need a test subject... if someone with baldr force wants to toss the contents of this -> BaldrForce.zip (http://members.shaw.ca/Doddler/BaldrForce.zip) into thier Baldr Force directory and start a new game (make sure you don't skip the prologue though). I'd be very happy to see how it works on a clean install of baldr force (Make backups of BaldrForce.exe and Update.pac first though). Mines really messed with since I started this project :P. There's not much to this update, I just need to verify it works alright.
Just out of curiosity, how are you planning to translate the furigana in the game? Sometimes the characters speak the furigana and sometimes they speak the equivalent meaning Kanji. Sometimes, the furigana is used as an indicator of additional meaning (like referring to the First Battalion as 'uchi' or family)
You bring up a good point. Right now what I'm trying to do is come up with a good enough english equivilant to not lose the origional meaning. In some cases, I've been putting in extra lines explaining this, in other cases, I've simply kept both (although it'll most likely need to be changed later) and kept the secondary meaning in () above the word. I'm not sure how I'll handle it, it works good with abreviations like V.S.S. and putting the full name above it, but in the case you mentioned I havn't come up with an adequate solution yet.
Right now I'm still trying to come up with a decent english term for the online world, as well as a matching term for 電子体 that doesn't sound really corny :P. I think I'll just end up using "cyberspace" and cyber-whatever for the objects in that world (The term cyberspace is used once or twice too). I considered wired, since it is used too, but that sounds too Lain-ish.

Well, the game DOES use "Wired Ghost" in katakana and/or English. So I don't know how weird it would sound if the person says "Wired Ghost" and the text comes out "Cyber-Ghost." One approach may be to leave it as the Japanese take on the English, and include some liner notes with descriptions of technical terms, or have some window pop up if you click on Wired Ghost or something. BTW, nice job to whoever unpacked your executable, that debugging protection is painful.
Well, I'll leave wired ghost as wired ghost, because it sounds better and its very obvious thats what they say :P. The other stuff I'll refer to as cyber-.
As it stands, pop ups arn't quite feasable at the moment, but there may be a way to do it. The engine isn't as tweakable as AVG32 was for kanon.
And whats this about the executable? We never had any problem with it so far. Actually, we havn't yet changed anything in the executable so far, so I dunno how hard that is :P. The pack files it turns out were compressed with LZSS, nothing too advanced, and the script files were pretty streight forward.

Maybe the version you got was already hacked to remove the copy protection? The original executable is ~1.6MB and has a two-three stage loading process. The boot loader decompresses two DLLs from inside the executable and extracts them to a temporary folder. It then loads the DLLs into memory by memory mapping them. Then, it uses one DLL to determine whether you have a debugger present and shut down if so. The next DLL decompresses the executable image into RAM, loads the imports and then starts execution. You can see what the original exe is like by downloading one of the update patches. Those extract into a folder and contain an original executable.

I would seriously doubt that (the hacked exe), seeing how my copy of the game is a legitimate copy :P. The executable is 960k, which is the one I got from the patch from the homepage.

Oh, the 1.10 patch. I was using the old 1.04L patch. No wonder ^^;

This game is basically a visual novel based game with a few fixed point when you have to pilot a mech. While fighting in a mech, you have a chance to upgrade your certain attack stats by using those attacks. The story revolves around battles in cyberspace, where "hacking" is now essentially piloting mecha into corporate cyberspace :) The game also pits you with randomnly inserted H-scenes -_-;; Outside of those, the game has a very good multi-faceted story and is quite moving at times, dealing with revenge, betrayal, love, loss, etc. You can obtain a copy of the game at himeya: http://shop.himeya.com/products/adult_win_jp_dg/baldr_force_exe/baldr_force_exe.html
:help: :twitch:
Well.. the price i don't mind... just that it's in complete japanese right? :nono:
It will kill me instantly even before i start playing the game :uhoh: I only can wait for the english version i guess... Nobody have the wallpapers at all? I wanted one actually.. I will be grateful if somebody can give me some...
Has anyone played it? I just finally got my copy shipped in (yeah, I bought it) and have been playing a little, it's a fun game.
I was also wondering if anyone knew if there is a translation patch for it, people have made them for other games so I figured why not ask =)

Greetings, I am XenoDrake. Since this is my first post here, I will explain a little about myself. I live in Florida, and I hate it. I cant stand the sun, a typical otaku. I got into anime about 4 years ago. I am 20 now and in college film studies. I started into the anime world with AMVs (Anime Music Videos) to which I still make them today. This started me into wanting to make my own anime series. I want to also make the CG and various cinema you see in video games, as my talent for making AMVs shows I would be good at making them. I am Ryoko’s (from Tenchi) and she is mine and no, I don’t care, it’s to bad, she’s mine that’s all there is to it. I am an avid fan of just about anything anime related. Or for that matter, just about anything from Japan in general. The food, the people, the stories, and even their games. Games like Final Fantasy, Chrono Cross, XenoGears/Saga. Yasunori Mitsuda is a god! I make music also, but I know I am not going to be making anything chart toping. I just have fun with it, but I do have hopes of making the music for a movie I make in the future. Which leads me to the point of this post here. As many anime otakus are, I am addicted to DDR, and I recently got step mania, and with it the video game packs. One such game song was Face Of Fact from Baldr force. And with it came what I assume is the opening animation form the game its self. I was hooked on the music from beat one, and the video in the back made it almost impossible to focus on the arrows. I really want to play this game now. However, Google led me to sites I cant seem to read. However, it did lead me to here, where in I found a post that was over 6 months old.
http://forums.animesuki.com/archive/index.php/t-8620.html
the link given to get this game was
http://shop.himeya.com/products/adult_win_jp_dg/baldr_force_exe/baldr_force_exe.html
however, it seems to not be up their anymore. And this link points to Baldr Force Exe. My questions are, what platform will I need to play this game (computer, playstation est...) how many different forms of this game are their, sequels, remakes, spin offs, and where could I get them. My usual contacts in the AMV world seem to be at a loss to help me on this one, so I came to the only English link Google gave me. Thank you for any help.

Hey,
Welcome to this wonderful forum :)! How about sharing some of your AMV with us  ? BTW, regarding Baldr Force EXE, I belive this game is PC based and may be you can play it on Segan Saturn as well, not entirely sure about that though. Here is a review (http://princess.cybrmall.net/ubb/Forum11/HTML/000021.html) of this game by someone. It's a long review and explained most of your queries...I hope that helps to some extends.
Cheers!

hehe, sure thing about the AMVs, you can get them from
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_myprofile.php?user_id=25935
but you have to sign up and be a member of the site for two weeks, or donate. the hosting is donation driven, so if you want to download right away, you can make a pledge, just one dollor will do it. im not able to pay for hosting video files, so for me, its the only way ^^;;;
thank you for the link, i will see what i can find.

Baldr Force is the original release on PC
Baldr Force EXE is the DVD rerelease on PC
There's also a Dreamcast version of Baldr Force EXE coming out soon (with probably lots of ero removed but more added cutscenes)

I'm asking this because I've no knowledge of Japanese and because I know there's an anime OVA coming out for it (which will no doubt be fansubbed and spread here sometime), made by the same guys who made the "Izumo 2" (a game by the company Studio E'go!) anime, with the webpage for it found here:
http://www.trinet-ent.com/baldrforce/index.html
Unfortunately for b-game fans who know no Japanese like myself, the only bit of English info to be found on the web (at least in my Internet adventures) is an English review of the game that was originally on freetype.net (which was a Singaporean site with its anime, game and b-game reviews in English) that by now has for some reason disappeared. So, now I turn to you all to help me answer my questions:
-Who or what is Renn Mizukasa? The official wallpapers label her as a "wired ghost," but that would seem to imply that she doesn't have a physical body, where as the CGs I've seen (such as her H-scene with Tooru at her school, or the one where she (SPOILERS) commits suicide with a knife(END SPOILERS)) seem to contradict that notion.
-What is Renn's "happy place" with the cabin and idyllically floating grass? Is it real or virtual? Why did she bring Tooru there?
-What is that little ball with the red "eye" that I've seen Renn carry around in a figure of hers? It seems to be the final boss of the game--is it? What does it want?
-I remember seeing in another (somewhat suspect) English review that I can no longer find that Ayane Shidou was, aside from being quiet, dedicated and antisocial, was "something of a masochist." What on Earth does that mean for her story? Could someone explain her character for me?
-Any particular reason other than fanservice as to why Karin goes around sometimes exposing her bra?
I hope that someone here who's played the game and understood it (these two are very different things!) can answer my questions.
I would suggest putting most of the stuff you described in spoiler tags, as they will be (hopefully) explained in the OVA. Not knowing the answers to these won't detract from the experience of the OVA. You should ask these after watching it and if you don't understand a few things, not before. And yes, Karin's there mostly for service.
And a clarification, TriNet outsourced the animation production for this over to Satelight (who animated Aquarion and Macross Zero), so we should be expecting a lot better things in the visual department.

I believe you misunderstand me--I don't have a good enough internet connection for Bittorrents, nor will I have one in the foreseeable future. Not to mention that it will probably never be brought to Region 1, so I'd like to get my answers where I can if I can't get my hands on the OVA's fansub when it comes out.
Also, my post was supposed to be a new thread with the word SPOILERS in its title, before a moderator moved my post into this thread.
If you find posting spoilers of that magnitude objectionable, you could answer my questions in a private message or e-mail to me. I'd appreciate your time.

Quick question: Baldr Force EXE for PS2 has hentai scenes?
Quick question: Baldr Force EXE for PS2 has hentai scenes?
Quick answer: Nope (yay!)
Long answer: H-scenes are removed, but the actual events (well at least the romantic ones) do take place in the game plot; they just don't show it. They also do some interesting edits like moving Minori's legs closer together, making her skirt longer, making Ayane close her legs, etc. to remove panty shots.

I know this is old, but is this thread still alive?
Sort of... :heh:
There's something you want to ask about the series or the game?
Firing the thread back up for BALDR SKY Dive 1 "Lost Memory" (if, that's okay with you people). Being the first game I've played in the Baldr Force series, I was very, very impressed by how it carried out both the action and the story telling portion of the game. Despite some amount of input detection delay in the battles, the amount of features and details placed into that area of the game really help contributes in breaking up the story between battles and storytelling without detracting from it. Also, I really enjoyed the game's somewhat unorthodox way of sprinkling the narration with flashbacks that gradually build up to answer some key plot questions, and it really helps with the character development as well, as Kou slowly starts to pick up on key memories of events pertaining to the mystery behind certain characters.
My only gripe is that the game seems to force you to follow a certain order of character and story paths, and while I'm not as concerned about it in the first game, I really hope the plot doesn't culminate into a Kou x Sora ending in the end of the yet to be released second game. Hopefully I'll learn to appreciate the token-tsundere character of the game before I reach that point, or else this might turn out to be a (nicer) repeat of the MuvLuv experience (with the main character being more in tune with the situation and less of an idiot). Oh well...5 good characters (with 3 potential favorites) out of 6 isn't TOO bad, I guess...as long as Sora doesn't wind up playing a major factor in every character's storyline, that is, with her apparent elevation to the position as the enigma of the overall story...
Currently finishing up Rain's story, and as much as I want to follow up with Chinatsu's path, I have to go through the loli-ish childhood friend's path first. I'm really not sure if I should be happy or sad that I get to play my favorite character's story first...
