Seriously wonder where he came from... It would have been nice if they showed a bit more of him actually preparing to come, instead of him just suddenly appearing with a jeep to help rescue Alicia who was captured by the enemy after she fainted after she somehow blocked the giant beam with the power of love(?) and shot a blast at the giant tank.
Speaking of the giant Valkyria cannon, now it makes more sense why he rammed right into the castle...

Wonder where Elderweiss or whatever went... Didn't Zaka come to help drive it?

It was a good episode, but after the previous episode, this episode didn't have as much impact, in various meanings.
Oh well, and to the finale we go~ What is this death flag preview though...

Excellent combat episode. Had just the right pacing, IMO, among other things.

Wow, Emile gets downed about thirty seconds into the episode. He's the only one of the Sevens who gets shot, but he's definitely out of action. Truth be told, I expected more than one Seven to get hit.
Whatever happened to the Edelweiss? Whatever, it probably wouldn't have helped that much in the street fighting.
I guess Fukuyama Jun is NEVER gonna get Lelouch out of his system. You can CLEARLY see a bit of our Brittanian prince influencing Maximilian's speech.
Finally a look at Maximilian's reason for the war: revenge for his mother's assassination. Also, from Maximilian's explanation, I'm guessing he revealed to Jaeger the true history of the Valkyria's conquest of Gallia.
Now that is one frickin' big lance... and it made one BIIIIG mushroom cloud...
Alicia, those are battle scars if I ever saw them.
Jaeger tries to desert Maximilian's cause, and pays for it with his life. Damn...
Oh noes! Alicia is captured!
Faldio makes his return a bit abruptly, though I wish he didn't have to make my favorite sniper look bad...
This episode was great for action and ending development, and looks like it's leading up to a bloody climax. If there were any flaws in the series' early stages, the late-game episodes are clearly making up for them.

Yeah, sadly he does leave more of an impression than Welkin. Not sure what the writers were doing (or rather, not doing) during the production of this episode (let alone the whole series). I rarely have the desire to delete any series from my external HD, but this anime adaptation of a great game is definitely one that will be flushed. A shame, really.

Well, we don't know if Jaeger is dead dead. In fact, my gut feeling tells me that he will replace Faldio's role in the game's final, and no, I do not hope I am wrong. That being said, just what the fuck is Faldio doing here? Please get a clue, we are sick and tired of looking at that schmuck! Just... off with him already!

Moreover, what is up with the bullshit frontal charge? And where the fuck are the tanks?! I've not seen them for weeks! Hell, I have been wondering if the producer of this anime not played the game? Because it sure looks like they never did!

That battle was so brainless and stupid its funny. In that mission, a frontal assault was a guaranteed suicide. Tank support was a key element for victory, but no tanks were present in this episode. With all the emphasis put into the tank in the game and anime, its absence cannot arrive at a worse time.

Moreover, the entire battle process was so disgustingly artificial as if the choreography was handled by amateurs. For example, a rock suddenly appears out of nowhere so Welkin can conveniently hide behind it for cover, yet dismissing the fact that the enemy was dropping 100mm shells at the protagonist!

And what did Faldio get? Magic bullets! Thats right, magic-fucking-bullets as if he was Rip-van-fucking-Winkle!

Oh for Valkyria's sake!

If I had my way with Faldio, I'd pour burning oil on his back and deep-fry tempura while I am at it!

I'm really starting to hate Faldio's voice actor.

First Neeba from The Tower of Druaga, now Faldio from Valkyria Chronicles. It's like he's always voicing characters that the viewers will surely hate or that are caught in a love triangle.

Eiji Kai(KimiKiss), Neeba(The Tower of Druaga), Yuuhei(Cross Game), Suzaku(Code Geass).

When he voiced Zwei(Phantom OVA), it was a total disaster(not his fault) since the OVA's sucked, but still...poor guy.

So they dropped the best scene from the game. That is rather... disappointing... isn't it.

It's also very ironic that Emile is the one getting shot and not Oscar. It's so backwards.

On the other hand Squad 7 gets to go deep into action and not just for 5 seconds. That is... without the iconic Edelweiss.


Let's look at the bright side! SuperFabio+ gets to outshine the rest of the cast with his unbelievable superhuman actions once again! His missing from episode 24 was just there to build up our anticipation.

It's the crowning moment in the relation between Alicia and Welkin. Notice that in the game they didn't add all the corny shoujo pseudo-romance tropes the anime has, so this is quite a strong scene.
You can guess why we're all frustrated that it didn't happen.

Sakurai Takahiro's forte is bishounen boys. I have yet to hear him voice an ugly character. Doesn't hurt that he IS good-looking in real life.

Considering it's street fighting with enemy troops already lurking by, using Edelweiess isn't really a good idea; and since attacking the fort is an ad hoc change in plan, I can see why they don't have Edelweiess along.

As about the missing Epic scene......Since Alicia isn't trying to sacrifice herself unlike in the game AND 7th is actually quite a distance from the fort, I can accept its dissappearance here. I'm optimistic that they'll save it for the last.

They need to have Edelweiss, because it has something called smoke. In the game, the mobile fortress was successfully assaulted by Platoon 7 under a smokescreen with the Edelweiss providing cover for the troops. That is how that fortress was taken out. Instead, over here we have Platoon 7 pretty much blindly charging in with guns blazing and Fagio shooting magic bullets from behind. Yeah, very fucking convincing. No.

As for street battles. Keep in mind that the Edelweiss is essentially a heavy tank. In urban combat, utilizing tanks such as the Edelweiss wisely could turn the tide of the battle and easily become an enemy's worst nightmare. Just because the producers of this anime knows shit about combat strategy does not mean we have to level ourselves to their stupidity.

Aside from what Tak said, the only reasonable explanation was that they weren't planning on bringing it in the first place. However that still doesn't excuse them and Welkin could've gone, "Go get the Tank Zak, we'll hold off the Imps"

In fact, if they had brought in that city battle they had in the opening that would've been great.

What was apalling to me was the fact that we got these soldiers standing in the middle of nowhere shooting with zero cover. Emile should've had his head blown off.

The epic scene existed because she was going to sacrifice herself, therefore it's not saved for last. She's the damsiel in distress right now.

Ignoring the game, by the end of this I'm beginning to wonder what Welkin would've achieved. So far Faldio's been taking the spotlight and leaving the most impression. What was Welkin done?

Jaeger? What purpose did he served? Why was he in the show at all? Selvaria' and Alicia knowing each other....why? I thought that was an interesting development but nothing happened.

As for street battles. Keep in mind that the Edelweiss is essentially a heavy tank. In urban combat, utilizing tanks such as the Edelweiss wisely could turn the tide of the battle and easily become an enemy's worst nightmare. It shares the same names and character designs but isn't the game. Get it? Got it? Good. That 'scene' can no longer come in the next episode due to the simple fact that the producers had fucked it up and lost their chance to do it. What you are forgetting is that Gallian Chronicles is an alternative telling of WWII where advanced rocketry and missile weapons were unavailable at the time. Indeed, the Edelweiss in the game can withstand many barrages before succumbing to damage. Since the Edelweiss was modeled after the German heavy tanks, its role would have been perfect for defensive operations, urban or otherwise, just as how German Tigers were utilized. In fact, in the battle for Berlin, legends recall that two lone Tiger tanks protected the Reichstag, halting Soviet advances for hours until their ammo was utterly spent.

Indeed, the Edelweiss in the game can withstand many barrages before succumbing to damage. Since the Edelweiss was modeled after the German heavy tanks, its role would have been perfect for defensive operations, urban or otherwise, just as how German Tigers were utilized. In fact, in the battle for Berlin, legends recall that two lone Tiger tanks protected the Reichstag, halting Soviet advances for hours until their ammo was utterly spent.

That's assuming the commanders know what they're doing though. Tigers are so hard to kill is because of their extreme armour on almost all sides, and while it made them hard to use, they're almost equal to unkillable bunkers against enemy armour units. Against troops among the ruins, it's not really the case. Infantry protection aside, Edelweiss doesn't have AP weapons on its own IIRC, and even it has it's simply hard to wield in urban environment------In Black Hawn Down the MG gunners on the Hummers are almost the first target of the gureilla, even more than the Hummer itself.
Especially when Edelweiss' power generator is exposed from the back, it's just way too vulnerable to use it in an hostile-full environment.

Yeah that's why they have infantry detachments to protect the tank. These problems have always existed and there are tactics to deal with. In fact that article which you quoted and obviously did not read specifcally stated that combined arms was very effective in urban combat (Tank plus dismounted infantry).

The sad thing in this episode is really about Jaeger. I really miss the game ending of him. But if he died, he died with a smile and without washing his hands in blood of innocents.

- Welkin convinces Alicia to fight without sacrificing herself (part of the confession but a point to mark out)- Selveria showing as a true born leader and then firing up.

Well, it all comes down to a fans perspective if they like how the writers interpreted what to include or not include in the anime. From looking at the poll, it looks likes there are some that are enjoying the anime rendition.

Also, you have to remember that you win some and lose some when it comes down to how a favorite game is interpreted. From the looks of things, it looks like this is going to be one of those that did not get interpreted well. You could either take it as the writers underestimated how much of the game plot could be used or the writers overestimated their abilities in making their rendition of the plot of the game.

I kinda have a mixed opinion about this episode.

On the one hand, as part of an anime series it was pretty good. A lot more action than in most episodes and some decent suspense regarding Jaeger at the end. Not much to complain about at all, aside from everyone's hero Faldio arriving in the nick of time to save the day AGAIN (seriously, enough already).

As an adaptation though I'd have to say it was pretty bad. I'd heard this was supposed to focus more on the characters but they went and cut out one of the most important character-based moments from the game. There's still a chance for a similar scene to be inserted in the next episode but if that does happen, I kinda have to wonder why it was cut here in the first place. That's pretty much the main thing I don't get with the series: why change plot points that were perfectly dramatic and exciting in their original form? Especially when some of the time they end up being resolved in the same way anyway (e.g. Skipping the Batomys fight only to have it destroyed in the exact same way at Naggiar instead, what was the point?). Note: That's mostly a rhetorical question, please don't respond with the millionth post saying "because the writers are idiots". Have seen enough of those for a lifetime already.

You have forgotten that it is Faldio who found out that Alicia is Valkyria even though it causes a single tragedy. But the results ended in preventing a complete loss to the Gallian army. Therefore jail as a reward for saving the whole army from getting whiped out of the desert is very illogical.

As for threating her highness. Faldio gambled high and Cordelia knew about it. She whitnessed herself the "birth" of Alicias as Valkyria and she also knows what Faldio is going through. He already has the highest punishment which is not jail but living with the fact that he has lost his unit through a miscalculation of the situation, shooting at a beloved person and that he was to loose a beloved friend.

As she is the countries representative, she has the right to decide what right is or wrong. Since it was Faldios theory that saved a lot of people she has the right to pardon him.

As you mention code geass. I haven't seen it to be honest. But I have counter examples.

1. Record of Lodoss war: Parns dad, Tessius, who has got striped from his ranks although he deserved higher discipline, because he saved Fawns daughter from an allied nation and it was forbidden to save her. Tessius acted against this order and saved his daughter.

2. National Treasure 2: Ben Gates, who has kidnapped the president to retrieve the Book of the Presidents. He also got pardoned at the end.

She is a Darcsen. Now start thinking what you have learned about the first episodes about the Darcsen then you know why they are being ignored or avoided.

First of all, Alicia was a town militia soldier. Nothing more than a town squad with not very effective basic training or combat experience. She learns with the time to get the situation better handled. Also military ethics surely were assigned to her with her new role as a sergeant.

Like in the village episode, while Welkin waited indecisively, Fabio took the charge and took the chance. People died but there would have been more causalities if they would have stayed with Welkin and his wussy way. I think you yourself argued for Fabio's decision back then.

Well...I guess compared to the game they messed up, but remember that so much has been changed up to this point, to go back to "true canon" it'd be messing up the "anime canon"...any touching scenes between Welkin and Alicia wouldn't fit because they haven't had a true confession yet, plus they were in the middle of a battle and pretty far apart until Alicia appeared to blast the Marmota.

I liked this episode because of the action. This series was lacking on action in battles, and this one delivered for once, even if it was stupid that they didn't have the tank with them.
Emile getting shot was a nice way of getting Aisha and Hans out of the battle, lol. I think Aisha's just the squad pet or something, she hasn't done anything.
Lazor neutralizes lazor, apparently. You'd think it'd just combine to make more lazor, but nope. Alicia blowing a hole in the Marmota with her Nakama Power ftw...and then she's captured. At least the guys have a reason to head inside other than "Kill Max"

Things that irked me: uninteresting intro, another BS 'I have something to protect' power-up to halt a powerful enemy, and Faldio sniping from a moving vehicle on off-road terrain while driving it.

Cordelia is a princess, Even if she want to trust Faldio and she know he was'nt serious, she must act as a princess.

Even if she try to avoid him to be executed, she can't just pardon him, free him restore his grade in the army.

What will think the member of the army will do if they see someone who try to kill the princess free and leader of a unity?

An attitude like this lead to rebellion and civil war.

This event remind me code geass: cool attitude, WTF, but very illogical and incoherent.
Because the princess saw through what Faldio is doing and played along with it. And later she tried everything she could to make Faldio avoid any kind of punishment.
You know if the very victim of the thing protests against punishment especially if she's quite high ranked it's not that surprising.


But, It's not the only incoherence and plot hole in the anime, even for some who did'nt know the game :

Here are all the incoherence I notice since the first episode:

-Why nobody know who is Isara in the second episode. She live to Bhrul since she was kid, Most of the villager must to know her.

Good question. I bet may her existence kept in secret or something like that(or no logical explanation). But you're right. It's really nonsense.

-Why Alicia is afraid to kill someone in the fifth episode, she participate to the battle of Vasel, she know what is war?
She knows, but I bet that was her first time killing somone out of cold blood. In other situation she just returned fire and killed the enemy by consequence. But a bit silly, I have to say.

-Why Alicia just ignore grade and don't want to obey to Damon in this episode and refuse to obey to Welkin and Faldio in the Fifth and the sixth episodes?
In army it need to obey to orders.
Well, she's quite temperamental and strong-willed. So she did it without much thinking. But maybe I have to rewatch those scenes.

-How the princess didn't lose her Wig during her kidnapping?
Plot-glue. Stronger than any real glue and guaranteed to stick things together.^^
If we're at it then how the hell Welkin managed to shoot the guy using Alicia as a hostage? Especially in a non-lethal way and on a moving vehicle? It happened at the very same episode.

-Why did she her a wig under her hat?
To keep the illusion of her being a Valkyur to the watchers. The animators were lazy to animate her headpiece and else so they made her look more typical to cut at the animation costs. Mind it...many many worse things happened.

-Why Faldio did'nt shoot the princess who is know as a descendant of the Valkyrur? She had Silver hair, her lineage must be more pure than the one of Alicia.
Probably because he's still a sane person. Shooting the queen? He's asking for death? Even if the queen forgives him and does everything to help him he can't avoid death penalty after that. Not to mention Faldio did it out of desperation and at that time Alicia was next to him...

-Why nobody notice that Alicia have not returned from the faldio place when he shoot her?
I guesseveryone knew she's taking care of Faldio. And who knows when she comes back. So they guessed she stays a little bit more. Then they got informed about Alicia's injury.

-Why nobody in the camp hear Faldio shooting Alicia?
Good question. I guess Faldio did something to smooth things out. Like he hid Alicia instantly and lied something about the gunfire. And then tells a tale about an imaginary sniper and an injured Alicia. It actually works with some luck and tricky mind.
-How Faldio can cross a military camp with the princess as hostage? Nobody see him or try to shoot him?
No, because even if they shoot him if it doesn't cause absolutely instant death then the brain can send signals to pull the trigger. So in short even if they kill Faldio he still fires the gun. That's why hostage situations are still tricky even in the modern times.

-Why Selveria who show Alicia many time before her fight didn't notice who she was? (She have'nt really changed)
Actually If I would've the chance see one of my old friends from kindergarten or elementary school I guess I wouldn't recognise them. It's the same with Selvaria.

-Why nobody notice than the marmota approach Randgriz?
The biggest question of the show. Even if almost all of the military forces are stationed elsewhere there are still civillians. It's next to impossible to not notice it. Even Maximillian isn't as much of a genius to pull out something like that.

-Why the unity didn't use the Edelweiss in the last battle?
To lessen the animation costs. Or maybe because the marmota's wide aray of weapons posing a way too much of a threat to it.

-How Alicia have survived to the sacrifice of Selveria? the power destroyed Selveria, Alicia must be dead
I guess with some ragnite-enchanced barrier-like thing. Or Alicia had much more Reiatsu than Selvaria(just kidding).

-How Alicia can counter the Lance fixed on the Marmota? It's many time more powerful than her lance and she is wounded

You know she's been enchanced with the Power of Love and the friendship of the 7th squad.:p
Or maybe she shot a much more concentrated beam while the marmota's lance is powerfull and devestating has it's energy spread in a wide area.

Anyways. It seems Faldio has some kind of special ability to steal Welkin's GAR powers. With his disapearance for a few episodes Welkin's GAR level has jumped quite a bit. He's much more confident and resembles the game version more. I hope he stays that way(or in an even better condition) in the last episode.:)

Poor Oscar, watching his brother pretty much bleeding to death. Not very moving, though it adds a touch of realism.
Very true, Lelouch (I swear, Lelouch is possessing Maximilian). History is written by the victors, unless it's never written at all.
Now here's something I never thought I'd hear: Marina despairing. And to think, she's gotten so few lines, too.
Lelouch makes Jaeger seem like a hypocrite in terms of "thirst for power", though he has a valid point. What Jaeger is doing isn't much different from what Lelouch is doing.
Ah, the common ideal that "Power is everything". Many would agree with that, but what Lelouch doesn't realize is that power comes in many forms, not just brute force or utter destruction...
Not much else to say. Now to wait for the finale.

This episode was an automatic 10 for my insane self when Fabio finally showed up. FINALLY we have our hero back, I was getting sick and tired of all the Welkin filler, we need to see how our hero Fabio will rush in sniping with one hand while standing alone on the driving seat of a manual-gear car and kills snipers with magic bullets...

Now THIS is what makes this anime so good, I don't really care about that crappy game...

And now I'm gonna prepare myself for the big ending with Fabio getting both the princess and Alicia and becomes king after kicking Maximilian to the ground by destroying the marmota with a surgical sniper shot to the special exhaust pipe that makes the whole thing go KABUM (like the Death Star in Star Wars see?).

I don't think Decent is the good word for the anime for someone who did'nt play the game, Average fit more to the anime (It remind me Code Geass R2).

the 2 last episode was very rushed, there is nearly any explaination about some event (Why the princess is Darcsen).

the big bad guy kill his men because their is only one episode to finish and he must be the only bad guy at the end?

And since Alicia is a Valkyria, the show has become a shonen like Bleach of Naruto.

I have nothing against anime different from the manga when they are good. I have really enjoyed the first FMA anime, the Negima live action, the Hellsing anime, the Death note movies, the manga Code Geass Nightmare of Nunnaly and the manga Mai Hime and Otome.

I also prefer the movies Air and Clannad to the anime.


I have love filler arc in somes anime too (Bleach, Saint seiya, Saiyuki), I even prefer sometimes fillers to main story (Asgard arc and movie in Sant seiya, Memorie of nobody in Bleach)


The reason because the people is complaining is because it's different AND Bad.

The manga is also different (The volume 2 is totally different from the game), but nobody complain about this because it's different but good.

I agree with you, for someone who don't play the game, the anime is average, but, as adaptation is it's really worst than average.

If I didn't know the game, I'll give 5/10 to the anime.

As a fan of the game, I'll give 3/10 to the anime. The only other adaptation who obtain 3/10 are Zero no tsukuiama 2, Rosario Vampre ad Kara no Kyoukai 6 . So, it one of the worst adaptation I seen.

Even the Tsukihime anime obtain 5/10 as an adaptation

Ok, on this one, I have to agree with the Faldio haters and say that was a ridiculous moment. Welkin showed good leadership but then to have that god moding moment by Faldio undermined the whole thing :rolleyes:

The confrontation between the two Imperials was enjoyable, not too sure on the wisdom of killing Jaeger but within the context of the show, made sense. Loved that we saw Maximilian's mother but the reaction to her death? Could have been far better. Squad's 7 part was decent but did drag a bit, won't comment on the Alicia thing till we see episode 26

Sure, adaptions can be different, there is nothing wrong with that. However, when the whole exercise seems to be for the sole purpose of giving gamers the finger, then we have a problem.

sadly...as with most of the squads characters in the anime...they don't really do or have the weapons that they're supposed to.

For the first 18 or so episodes Marina just used a regular rifle and fought along side everyone else....it almost seemed like everyone either used only a rifle or a machine gun.

Homer Peron: the curly blonde haired with with blue eyes is supposed to be an engineer and carry a large backpack and all sorts of pouches that carry engineering tools and such but he has none of that in the anime...sad...

and there's only 9 of them in Welkins squad...

Indeed, and she is the main protagonist of my fanfiction, Valkyria Chronicles: Lone Wulf. (I'm still working on the 7th chapter, but university work has been getting in the way)

You know, when I first discovered her closet love of animals, I burst out laughing. I also immediately drew a comparison between her and Tear Grants (from Tales of the Abyss).

I do wish she had gotten a bigger part in the series. Oh well... at least I can give her the fame she so deserved.

Hmm, you know I quite liked this episode. More than I did the game scenario concerning the Marmotta. Alicia appearing in the nick of time to hold of the Holy Lance, damaging it through sheer hotblooded willpower? Hell yes! That definitely beats the game scenario.

I must say, I've been rushing through the episodes since 15, and things really picked up when Nagiar came around. And in a good way too. More screentime for the entirety of squad 7, more drama regarding Alicia, a more believable approach to her powers as a Valkyrur, these last few episodes are frankly surpassing the game.

Now if only they could have done this for the entire anime...
